We went to gitano over the weekend to celebrate my friend’s birthday and had such a great time. The staff was super friendly and attentive, our server Nate guided us through the menu and was very kind and knowledgeable. The vibes of the restaurant were worth the trip. Great views of the city and the music was so much fun. We stayed for over 3 hours and after dinner we moved to the dance floor and danced until the end of the night.Highly recommended if you want to scape the city and forget you are in New York while you are here.
Amazing! Loved the music the drinks and food was great!! I would definitely return ! Great vibes!! We came after the spa with my friend and it didn’t disappoint me at all. Please check it out when in Governors island!! Btw Javier was AMAZING!!
This place was a total vibe. I love the experience from taking the ferry over, finding this spot on the island and then being seated. Someone in line made the comment “this is like Tulum in New York”. I never been there but I’m going to say they have to be right. The music was great and so was the food. I’d definitely come back here.
We had a really great time. Because the restaurant is on Governor’s Island, it feels like you went away to another country. It really does have a Tulum Mexico feel. The day kept us bopping in our seats, the good was delicious and the view of the city makes the trip in the ferry so worth it. I would definitely be back.
The food here is great, and the vibes are good too! Javi is the best waiter - he’s incredibly attentive, and gives good menu recommendations. Really patient with our big group.
Just incredible, Xavier recommended us the Mezcal Ceviche and it was delicious starter. After that we got the birria and pollo pibil, both amazing with tortillas on the side. We love the frozen watermelon margaritas, so refreshing. I can’t wait for come back again.
My first time to Govenor’s Island via the Ferry which was a lovely ride in under 10 minutes. We explored the island by renting a quad cycle for 4 with a little canopy on top. Just darling and so much fun. Saw adorable tents you can rent for overnight or weekend stays with amazing views of the tri-state area from every angle about $500/night.By the time lunch rolled around we were famished. Our party of 5 got seated in under 5 minutes without a reservation. The hostess and our server were absolutely wonderful. They provided 5 star service and were just lovely.Unfortunately I could t give 5 stars due to the food options. Not much to choose from and the 6 different items ordered were all very average and overpriced. The shrimp dish had about 4 shrimps with a few tortillas on the side. Very disappointing. The ceviche was too tart and not enjoyable. We paid $64+ per person and left hungry. Very disappointing. While the ambiance is 5 star with lovely cabanas for relaxing or just having a drink as you take in the amazing views. Eat before you go is my advice. Cheers!
This place is a hidden gem. An island paradise tucked away on governors island. The music, the service (Merlot was great! Really made the experience excellent). We had shrimp and cauliflower. The music was disco dance remixed and the drinks were creative and cool. 6 stars
If you’re looking for a chill atmosphere to spend time with your friends/family and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Gitano is the best spot. Enjoy the drinks and appetizers, if you have a craving for Mexican food, this is not the place! Food was mediocre.
Food is very overpriced and doesn’t taste good. Almost everything is spicy, probably to cover the lack of flavor and you can’t modify the dishes or ask them to make it not spicy.I got Al Pastor tacos and it was a bowl of very questionable meat for $32 and my friend got ceviche which had a hair in it.Service was good, no complaints about the staff, everyone was very friendly and helpful.Overall not worth it.
Food is too pricey for small portion dishes..good tastes but not the best. Maybe its just that day we went that it was so dusty. They turned on all fans and the dust floating around and all over our drinks and food
Gitano island boasts a lovely atmosphere with a chill music scene, stylish interiors, and a stunning view of Manhattan and the water. Unfortunately, the food and drinks fell short of expectations. While the presentations were appealing, the flavors lacked punch, making the price point feel unjustified. If youre looking for a trendy spot to relax and take in the scenery, Gitano is a good choice. But if your priority is a delicious meal, you might want to look elsewhere.
We had a fabulous experience at Gitano Island!!! Going there is like taking a vacation while in NYC. The food, service, and ambiance were top notch. Our waiter, Fabian, was friendly, energetic, and took great care of us. I would make the trip to Governors Island just to go to this restaurant! We are already making plans to return!
Tulum vibes in the middle of New York. Its definitely a party vibe, so know what to expect. The food is solid, drinks are good and music is fun We had some minor issues, but the staff quickly resolved everything. A great time over all!
Javi was amazing! He was very kind and answered questions about the menu. Food and vibe was amazing!! Great drinks, great service, great experience! Highly recommend!
I had shrimp tacos and a margarita and everything was very good. Merlot was our server and she was great!
Pros:The property is beautiful. The bar is beautiful. The beach is spacious with lots of pockets of people. The views are stunning! They really did such a great job w the design and layout of this property. Bathrooms are super clean.Non pros:They shouldn’t market themselves as a beach club, they are not. Renting a daybed here isn’t worth it because they aren’t in the sun.Our waiter could not tell us abt the menu. He didn’t understand our questions and when we asked to speak w a server that could answer our questions, he offered different food. Waiters should know the menu. The food was covered with waaaaaay too much sauce. It was heavy and not enjoyable.
Overrated. We had great service from one bar while waiting. However, once it was time to get seated it went downhill. It rained the whole day and finally cleared up. The hostess set us on the outside in the party like area where the seats were soaking wet. We waited there for at least 45 minutes no waitress. Another hostess walked past and ask if we needed something. I explained to him that the seats were wet and I could not sit there. He seated us inside with no problem.I waitress came to the table took our order. The food came out it was room temperature. Our waitress took super long to come back to check on us each time. I finally had to chase her down to pay our bill because we were ready to leave. The whole experience lasted about 3 hours from start to finish.
The vibrant atmosphere, paired with authentic décor, set the perfect mood for the meal. The guacamole was fresh and perfectly seasoned. Service was attentive and friendly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable.Highly recommended)))Tip: Visit this restaurant in the evening to feel the vibe. From the island you’ll also get a stunning view of Manhattan lights. 🌃
I’m giving a 4 for ambiance. Drinks are cool. Menu is light. Music and vibe was popping. But if you’re sitting in the lounge area beware of the sandy, gravel ground. Heels not necessary…or all the rocks will be in your shoes. Staff very attentive.
Had the absolute best time! Food was delicious, drinks were fantastic and the staff were so kind! Such a fun and unique experience for anyone coming to NYC to visit or as a local looking for a staycation.
Gitano Island is such a curated experience! A unique location with amazing food and atmosphere. The DJ Fabián Quitian had a very well-picked set for the night, and his energy was out of this world. We enjoyed the night like no other in Manhattan. Thank you for such exquisite piece of tropical paradise at the southernmost point of New York City.
You come here for the atmosphere, service is great and fast, but the food is pretty average. After opening in different locations throughout the years around NYC, the menu remains mostly the same which is not good considering the food is not that great. Drinks and desserts are delicious tho, I had a mocktail and my friends had cocktails. Overall recommend for the experience.
Gitano was such a cool spot. The view, the vibes, the food, the music. It was wonderful. Fabian was our server and was great.
Such a fun place right in the City! Take the short ferry ride over to experience a tropical experience. Fabian is the best, bae is giving!
Everything was perfect. I loved the atmosphere and the food, but my highlight was the guy who took care of our service!! His name is Roberto and he was such a lovely guy and he made sure that we were having a good time, he made sure everything with our food was perfect and he was such a charming person. I really hope every waitress behaves like he did because it’s what makes us want to go back 💘
The food was good. Was it worth the price, was it worth the wait? It’s trendy with young people. But the service and the food were nothing special.
THE VIEWS …. Let me say it again …THEEEEE VIEWSSSS 😍😍😍Absolutely stunning !! Such a short ferry ride transports you to a little oasis in NYC you almost forget you’re even in Manhattan anymore. The food is vibrant and colorful and full of flavor. Tons of modern Mexican bites sure to please everyone. Definitely geared for a fun night out.
Really cool experience having dinner at sunset on the island. The venue is great but the service could have been better. Not a cheap night out, but the food was very good. Try the bra Zuni for sure. Recommend to order lots of dishes and share with the table. Definitely a different experience than a nice restaurant in the city. Definitely request couch seating after dinner.
The moment you walk in the staff are so friendly and welcoming; I didn’t have a booking but there was a lot of space even though it said fully booked online - so don’t let that deter you. The shrimp tacos were DELICIOUS! The best tacos I’ve had in ages. And the margaritas were goooood!! It’s a little expensive, but I’ve been to more expensive places in Manhattan without the quality or vibes! Definitely worth the visit!
Went for brunch, we really enjoyed it! We were one of the first people to arrive, our server was attentive and kind. The food was delicious, and the drinks were very tasty. Lovely and picturesque seating areas, fantastic little spot on Governor’s Island! Lots of places to sit, or lounge. Whatever your preference, you will likely find something for you here.
It rained, so we had to wait until the rain stopped to be seated for our reservation, which we waited over an hour. Ambiance was great! Food & drinks not so good. Drinks were overpriced in my opinion, but hey. I ordered the short rib birria, they forgot the tortillas. By the time the waitress came back to check on us it was cold & she had to bring it back to heat up & get the tortillas. Wouldn’t go back!!! Guacamole was good!
The food was BAD but the vibe was fire.My order was almost $30 for just fried chicken w/ leaves. They just threw a fancy name on it. It just tasted like grease no other flavor or way to describe it. The vibe was nice though.
Carlos is Excellent! He was quick and informative. We got our food and it was great - I especially loved his recommendation for the Shrimp Taco. Gitano is awesome - ask for Carlos!
I went on a Thursday for a farewell party for my coworker and we had a blast. DJ did his thing and put out a diverse vibe so everybody enjoyed the music and danced. View is amazing, honestly the aesthetic of this place is to die for. The place is so big I didn’t get to enjoy every angle of this beautiful place so I plan on coming back to a book a different section just for the vibe. Food was amazing too, my personal favorite was the truffle pizza and the crispy chicken bites (I think was the name?).
Amazing place with cool beach ambisnce! My girlfriend and I had such a great evening. The food was great, drinks were really nice, and the music was top notch. The service as well, given by our server Roberto was fantastic! Very much recommended.
This really is a hidden gem on the Island. Really enjoyed the ambiance and vibe coursing through the place. The cocktails and food was enjoyed by our entire party. Our server Jonathan gave us exceptional service and an elevated experience. Will definitely be back.
The only positive thing about this place are the vibes. Cool decor, island vibes, and nice hangout. However, everything else was terrible. We informed the waitress about lactose intolerance, and while the cheese was removed from one dish, she didnt bother making sure the other dishes were dairy-free. When we asked about the guacamole she assured us that its dairy free. After the allergic person in our company took a bite and tasted dairy, we asked her to double check, and she came back confirming that there is sour cream in the guac. We then asked about all other dishes only to discover that another dish (broccolini side) was made with butter. At that point we sent it back to the kitchen, but the waitress gave us attitude and not only did not apologize but shifted blame on us for not telling her to remove dairy from the other dishes. We were still charged for both dishes despite sending it back to the kitchen, no replacement sent, and the allergic person getting a reaction. In general the food was overpriced relative to the quality although that might just be because its on the island.Bottom line, if you want to eat at a nice restaurant and get your moneys worth in terms of food and service, take the ferry back to the city and go to a real restaurant. On the island, stick to the food trucks. You will pay a fair price, and they will treat you nicer.
Very cute atmosphere, details in decor, plates, napkins, etc are so good. Really feels like an escape from the city and like we are on a tropical island. Food was also good, recommend tacos - pricier but not that outrageous for NYC standards and the setting is extremely unique.
I had the best bday dinner today at this spot so welcoming and jonathan showed great customer service very attentive and patience def a spot to being tour family or even a date ambience was amazingLoved that my server jonathan was on point to me needs i didnt want spicy food. Guac and chips weee the bomb. We has shrimps on skews so tastyYou gotta go and try the desert too its passion feuit. Make sure to get reservations. Bella bella views for pic and selfies
Cool vibe. Very ambient atmosphere. Food was good but service was lacking which kinda put a damper on things. Waitstaff want you to use the app but we had questions about the menu drinks and food. Our first server seemed reluctant to take our orders. She screwed up the drinks and then disappeared. Another server appeared and when we asked why our first server took so long, he said she went on lunch break. We waited a very long time between appearances. Our bill was $150 each for 5 people. We ordered churro dessert as a birthday cake for one person in our group. They bought 4 pieces because that was the order size. You think with the money we dropped on food and drinks they would’ve thrown in another churro stick! Nice to experience once but with service lacking, I won’t go back.
Over priced in my opinion, food was ok, you order everything through your phone and pay via your phone, special orders are difficult. I don’t like ordering from my phone and 1st waitress was not friendly at all but it made sense once I realized her shift was ending the second waitress was better but she wasn’t informed of the not on the menu order. Which was basically a cranberry and vodka… the place does have an island feel and not in NYC.
The food was decent enough especially the shrimp tacos, the fish didn’t taste as fresh alas.My main complaint here is while it was a walk in and was told by the host they’re fully booked I had to ask well how about the bar, to which the host said sure try your luck. Bartender had to ask the manager I presume if seating was even possible, mind you it was LESS THAN 50% capacity with many many empty tables, when the “manager “ arrived, was told they’re fully booked and can’t just give away someone else’s table in case they show up. I asked well what about those already late you’re closing in 90 minutes. Finally was offered a specific table by bar. This is terrible hospitality but the waiter was sweet enough as was bartender.
If you want somewhere that gives you more space, greenery and to not feel like you’re in the concrete jungle of NYC then this is it! A respite from the city that’s only a ferry ride away. Fantastic service and food, bring mosquito repellent though! Javier was amazing!
The food and service was amazing! It felt like being in Tulum, only a couple of minutes outside of Manhattan. Valeria and Manuel were amazing!Such great service and vibes! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had the most amazing experience with my friends, we were truly amazed by the quality of the food, atmosphere, music and vibes. Fabian was incredible and gave us the best service and attention to our table. We are now obsessed with Gitano and we’ll definitely be back.
A great sequel to the location in Manhattan with a much better view and vibe. HIGHLY recommend reservations to avoid the cheap seats; sitting in the sun on the tropical island may have caused some of the poor reviews. The mexican burger was amazing, churros on point… tacos left something to be desired (trial by fire; the mushrooms were the best). Guac platter was all one could ask for and more. Mocktails are refreshing and satisfying but come with cocktail prices. Speaking of which, wow on the elixirs coming from beneath that disco ball. Indecision hits because you will want them all. Needless to say, amazing scenery greenery decor and tropical beats for your festive group to enjoy. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Cannot stress enough the need to be on the water side to catch views of the harbor, skyline, and more. Regardless of where you end up, the trip to Governor’s Island will be worth it with a trip to Gitano. There is a boat service if the ferry is too pedestrian for you but it closes in on Blade prices so might not be worth it. I mention it for those who operate on their own schedule.
The risotto was delicious! Wonderful and beautiful atmosphere.
Our waiter Javier was THE BEST! So attentive and great service! The food was delicious and the views were stunning. I felt like I was back in Tulum. If you go I recommend Javier. He took care of us!
Cue the intro music to White Lotus, we’re going on an adventure. Despite the haters on here, Gitano on Governors Island is definitely worth the (5 minute) ferry. We missed the boat and had to catch the next one so we were late to our res but were still seated right away. The cocktails and food were great and came within 15 minutes of ordering. Favorite thing was the truffle tlayuda (truffle and cheese flatbread). The QR code/mobile ordering at the table wasn’t working right and indicated everything on the menu was sold out but in reality nothing was. Maybe the other reviewers on here mentioning this were not savvy enough to interact with a waiter? It was busy on a Friday night here, but no more than you’d expect at any Manhattan spot, and our server was very attentive. Chic beach club vibes lush palms will make you feel like you’re in Tulum or Miami 👌 Overall we’d def go back. It’s not for everyone though; if your go to is Los Tacos #1 in Chelsea Market, the ferry to Staten Island is right next door folks… (read: this is for the refined diner)Pro tip- you might want mosquito spray if you’re their type.
Despite the rain we had a blast. Daniella was the best at her service. I would definitely return on a sunny day.
This was the worst experience I have ever had in my life. I would not suggest anyone go here. First of all they sat me and my girlfriend in the blazing sun when there was plenty of seats available with shade. Secondly they served us tap water to start and they had no bottled water available for us to buy. The Service was horrible. Our server barely spoke English and never checked on us after we received our food. Speaking of food. The Tacos were absolutely disgusting, the tortillas came in a packet that we had to open. The tortillas were sticky and tasted old. The chicken that came with the Tortillas were dried out and pasty. I would give this place 0 stars if I could but unfortunately Google does not allow that feature. I would report this place to the Better business Bureau but I do not have the time. This place was a borderline scam, an absolute disaster, a waste of my time and energy. Please stay away. Save yourselves.
Went to Gitano today and had such a great time. Came with a group of friends to celebrate my friends birthday and we had the best time. The lobster tostada was incredible and so was the Birria and the shrimp tacos. Highly recommend the jungle fever and the kisses in the car.The vibes were great and Nate was such a good server. Highly recommended
Great atmosphere, drinks and food. Javier was amazing, From the moment we were seated, he made sure we felt welcomed and well taken care of. great service. I’ll definitely go back.
This place is awesome, kinda Miami feel minus the f#*ckery.. with that said if they turned up the music (beat wise) I’m sure everyone would drink and party a lot more. But we did appreciate the Fela Kuti vibes, ngl.Our server Diego was phenomenal, excellent customer service- would come back just for this level of attention. gracias Diego!
I went here for my friends birthday, and it was absolutely ruined, She didn’t like anything on the menu and she had to pick her meal apart to find the things that she liked, and the thing that she liked was the smallest piece of cabbage that they put underneath her meal .Let me tell you all now this food is absolutely horrible, Not one thing on this menu is worth the price please eat before you come and only drink here because it is not worth it at all. The atmosphere is amazing looks great. There’s a cabana there is a bar like it’s cool the party here but do not get this food. When I tell you, you will be disappointed you will be disappointed. I am literally going to go to White Castle after this because I am so upset that this food is horrible. I am still sitting at the restaurant now I didn’t even pay. My bill is absolutely horrible. Do not eat or you will be upset. I warn you now. The drinks also suck. And there’s a man in the suit at the gate for no reason there’s absolutely no reason why he needs to be in that bowtie and suit outfit on this island. We are literally going to another restaurant after we leave here. Our server was very nice and again the decor and Dj were great but I go to restaurant to eat and it was absolutely terrible.
I came here on a Thursday afternoon after work and I had a great time! Beautiful place, great food and drinks and amazing DJ! Fabián provided great service. His beats were on fire 🔥! Thank you for such a great experience!
Everything from start to finish was phenomenal! Service was greaaatttt. Fabian was a pleasure as a server. Would definitely come back.
Food was very good (honestly did not expect much given it’s more known for vibes and cocktails) but we were satisfied with everything! Ordered the guac and the watermelon salad appetizers, the crispy chicken and shrimp as entrees. Perfect amount of food. Service was also very attentive, and overall ambience can’t be beat! Great for date night or girls night out :)
I Finally made it to Gitano Island. Went with my bf on a sunday,7pm rsvp. We got there at 6pm and the hostess told us to go have drinks at the bar and come back to her by 7pm. We first walked up to the beach bar, horrible experience, very limited alcohol and the bartender who looked more like a bar back was clueless. Told us to go to main bar, so we did, and that did not disappoint. I was very pleased with our bartender i wish i knew his name. Very attentive, i loved that. Left him a nice tip. So 7pm comes around and we are seated in dining area. Our waitress was literally the only waitress in that entire section which was wild to me, so i made sure i put in my drink order and all food order by no later than 730pm. She wasnt very personable fyi. Drinks came, then apps came close to 8pm. We had a gentleman come up to us to apologize for the wait due to short staff/ slow/busy kitchen. Our main course was shrimp and birria tacos, waitress came by a hr after food order and offered us a free round for the wait. Bar back had cleared our entire table, so when my shrimp tacos arrived i had no napkins no utensils, my bfs food was nowhere to be found. He was pretty annoyed. Close to 9pm they showed up with his food and he turned it away. Its not our fault youre short staffed. Like OVER AN HR WAIT FOR TACOS CMON!!!!!!!!!!!!! All in all, the waitress and our bartender earlier came by and they comped our entire night, so the fact they acknowledged the problem and did right by us is why i will go back but now i know i wont go for dining. I missed out on the entire place waiting for food and they close early!!! SO DONT GO FOR DINING. GO FOR DRINKS AND AMBIENCE.
Beautiful setting. Food was excellent - particularly loved the Tabouli w pomegranate and the Froze! Javier was the best server. Check this place out next time you go to Governor’s Island.
Fabián was phenomenal. He recommended just the right things for us. The place was absolutely a vibe. I would highly recommend.
Atmosphere and service amazing! Food was ok, could be better. Diego was our sever he was extremely attentive. We were celebrating our first wedding anniversary and it was wonderful. Thank you!
Vibes 10/10, Food&Drinks 5/10, Service 2/10.I recommend coming here for the vibes only, not for the food and drinks. I had my birthday dinner celebration here and was not impressed with the service at all. When I emailed to book the reservation I stated that we were celebrating my birthday, but it seems like it was not communicated to the servers and they didn’t ask us if we were celebrating anything. My friend had to tell them it was my birthday and to put a candle on the dessert in the end.The staff was not attentive, we had to ask for water and utensils many times. The food here looks pretty but taste is whatever. The desserts were ok. We ordered the steak medium rare, first time it came out completely well done, second time it came out raw- couldn’t even cut in. They gave us attitude for sending the steak back, we had to show them it was not possible to cut the steak that raw.The cocktails here are also very water-down and nothing special. Better just order shots if you want to get lit.Honestly I did not expect the food to be amazing, but definitely expected better service for the price point.
Gitano is just so beautiful and such a great atmosphere! We spent the afternoon ordering small plates to share, dancing, and drinking delicious mezcal cocktails on the sand. The view is unbeatable on the island, thats for sure. Our server Alejandra was amazing, she recommended the best dishes in the end. Service was prompt and the food was great. Also not gonna lie, all the staff were like abnormally good looking, great time!!!
Don’t come. If you want to spend $25 on a cocktail and $25 on a small burger then sure. Also ran out of all the drinks and food that we wanted to get by 2pm. Their menu is very limited. 4 main, and apps. Attached is a picture of $18 avo toast and huevos rancheros. Terrible and won’t ever come again.
Had a wonderful lunch with my girlfriends at Gitano! Beautiful venue with lots of palms and amazing view of Manhattan. Food and drinks were amazing! As a vegetarian, was very happy to have the cauliflower tacos. Our waiter Javier was great!
Food and service was on point. The prices are a bit high. You need to make a reservation if you want to get in. There is a minimum $$ to spend per person. The only con is the maintenance of the seats/tables and the beach umbrellas. Some of these items were either dirty/moldy because they are outdoor, or chipped/broken.
From the quick boat trip across to the sand and palms the entire journey was amazing! Set on a lovely little governors island Gitano hosts a lovely Mexican getaway in New York. The music takes control and the drinks elate you. Watching the sun set against the back-drop of the Brooklyn bridge, statue of liberty and New York City is incredible! And the flavours from the meals are curated carefully by Chef Augusto. Authentic and more-ish. 😍Highly recommend.
A must visit for local NY’rs and visitors to the city!! I hope you get Ian as your server, he is amazing, he has amazing food recommendations and a friendly vibe which just feels like he is welcoming you into his home. The food is fantastic, don’t miss the in-house made guac & corn tortilla, best I’ve tasted!! Added to that the chill beach party scene, it is worth it to come during the summer!! Unique experience so close to downtown.
Going to this cozy place for a late lunch was our spontaneous decision, and we had a wonderful time despite the cloudy weather. Of course, when we choose such places, we primarily focus on the vibe: location, music, beautiful spots to take pics… But I want to note that the food was delicious, and the staff was attentive and friendly.
Beautiful place however the food & drinks were very disappointing. Ordered tacos and they came out cold. Also had drinks that lack taste & just tasted watered down. We had higher expectations of this place but are highly disappointed. Place is too kid friendly, children were running around the entire time we were there screaming & bumping into tables.
This place is a DIY restaurant nightmare. I had the misfortune of visiting on a rainy night, and the experience quickly turned into a disaster. The flimsy Costco tent covering the DJ collapsed, injuring a patron and soaking all the electrical equipment. With no music and a near-electrocution spectacle unfolding before us, we were eventually seated at a table—only to find that the roof above us was leaking. Buckets were hastily placed on our table to catch the dripping water, turning what should have been a meal into a farce. We ended up abandoning the table entirely, fearing the infrastructure above us might collapse. The service was as chaotic as the surroundings. Our waitress took our drink and dinner orders, but the food arrived before the drinks, which, when they finally came, were a disaster. Five out of seven of us returned our drinks because they tasted like Lysol. The food was equally disgusting—cold, flavorless, and poorly presented. The most alarming part of the night was the blatant disregard for safety. Having electrical equipment under Costco tents in a storm is a recipe for disaster. The infrastructure of this place is so shoddy it might as well be held together by an umbrella. We watched in horror as staff ran around soaked, slipping, and nearly getting electrocuted. It was clear they were overworked, undertrained, and left to fend for themselves in dangerous conditions. Shame on management for allowing anyone to work or dine, under such hazardous circumstances. It proves that a good social media following can portray a dumpster fire like this place as a “tulum experience”.
Absolutely amazing first experience at Gitano island! Ian our waiter was the best and did a wonderful job taking care of us! 5 Stars ✨ for Ian’s service!!! The food was surprisingly filling and great shareable portion sizes! I will definitely be back for the great food and great vibes! Thank you gitano island!!!
My boyfriend and I decided to go on an adventure to Gitano Island last night and we were transported to a beautiful oasis! For the 3 hours we were there we felt like we were on holiday, from the friendly staff to the picture perfect food and decor of the space we truly were in awe of the entire experience. I cant wait to return and eat the rest of this yummy menu x
Im extremely disappointed with the service we received at this restaurant. From the moment we walked in, our host was unfriendly and unwelcoming. Despite having many available tables outside, we were seated inside in a cramped corner. The lack of hospitality and poor seating arrangement really put a damper on our dining experience. When I saw the cramped corner table we were being led to, I asked the host if we could be seated at one of the many available tables outside instead. She told me it wasnt possible because all the outside tables were reserved. However, as we sat at the bar, I noticed that several outside tables remained empty throughout our visit.I then asked the host if we could sit at the bar instead, and she agreed, but only until I clarified that all three of us would be sitting there. She then asked in a rude tone, Are you guys going to order or just sit here? I replied that we would be ordering, and she pressed me again in an arrogant tone, What bottle are you going to order? as if we needed to justify our presence.I told her we would be ordering cocktails, and she seemed put off that we werent ordering a bottle. The bartenders attitude was equally off-putting. When I asked for a cocktail recommendation, she sarcastically replied, Any one from the menu. When I inquired about a dish to share, she simply said, Any one from the menu. The lack of interest and attitude from the host and bartender were really disappointing. As a Latina, I couldnt help but notice that we were treated differently than other customers. Throughout our visit, I observed that all the Latino customers were seated in the back, while white customers were offered better service, a smile, and outdoor seating. This blatant discrimination made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. After trying to make the most of our evening despite the poor treatment, we were shocked when the bill arrived. $260 for 5 cocktails and 2 food dishes seemed excessive, especially considering the mediocre quality of both. I had also forgotten to mention that when I initially asked to sit outside, the host told me that reservations were required at least 4 hours in advance. However, as we were leaving, I overheard a white couple arrive without a reservation and be seated outside. It was clear that the hosts earlier claim was simply an excuse.I also noticed that the outside tables only had cocktails on them, just like us. This made me realize that my earlier suspicion was incorrect - I had thought that maybe the people outside had purchased bottles to secure their seats, because when I asked to sit at the bar, the host had asked if I was going to buy a bottle. But it seemed that wasnt the case, and the real reason we were denied outside seating remained unclear.I left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and overcharged. To add insult to injury, the host had added a $30 tip to the bill herself, which seemed like a blatant attempt to take advantage of us. Overall, our experience was marred by poor service, discrimination, and overpricing. Needless to say, we wont be returning.
Had a solo date and I must say I’ll definitely be going backThe food was delicious; the drinks were on point; the vibe and music let’s just say there was dancing. My favorite part was the view!!If you’re looking for a place to feel as if you’re on the beach but also want a city view this is the place to go
Since it opens at 4 reached there around 5 ,really cool vibe with plants and water . Maybe they are trying to revive governed island ! This place has a 75$ pp minimum spend which kinda helds you back . We went and stood at the bar and ordered food it was delicious .we all had a great time would def go back worth going and enjoying summer ! No hassles just take a ferry which is a 5 min from battery park no parking hassle and just enjoy !Gitano has a name behind it I have not been to any this is my first time but was impressed ! Good selection of vegetarian food ! The hostess Janelli was amazing she helped us out reach out to her ! The only con is there are no numbers so everything is through email and am not sure how fast they respond ! The area is all open cause there website says indoor and outdoor but that does not make sense as everything is outdoor ! Enjoy and let me know if my review was helpful 😊
I visited this nice place with a friend and we so really loved it. We didnt understand how they can have pleeeenty empty seats all over at 3pm in a sunny day and be told that we can seat only at the bar🤷But its still amazing and of course, Ill come again
If I’m being completely honest , the food doesn’t give Mexican food justice . The tacos were bland , which I’m very surprised like how can you mess that up so badly . The chocolate dessert was terrible . It seems to me no love was put into the food . The only thing good about this place was the music and the drinks 🍹. The service was not to par . I asked one of the waitress for a spoon she legit told me to ask the waitress that was serving us . She went back on her phone and just stood there doing nothing . I won’t be coming back here . Overly priced place with poor quality of food and service .
Had such an amazing time with friends at Jitano. Good was great and our waiter Javier was excellent super friendly and gave great recommendations. We will definitely be coming back.
The atmosphere is very good, the food is average, but the service and music make you feel in Tulum!
I had some great time here and my date as well, javier suggested the birria and that was really tasty and some cocktails too, he elevated our experience that evening so definitely we will be back.
Fabian provided excellent service. The food was good and so were the drinks. He really made the experience worth it. He was attentive and made excellent recommendations. I would definitely return.
I loved the “get away” vibe of gitano island 🏝 and there’s honestly no other place like this in NYC. the view and food were both spectacular! The tuna tostada, guacamole, mushrooms were my favorites. Everything tasted fresh and the portions were well sized. The staff was also very attentive. I enjoyed every sec of being there!
Ian is the best server. They are so nice—and made fantastic recs. Nice to chat with and they offered to take pictures for us too! Great experience.
We loved our server Julissa!! Such great vibes! Drinks and food were amazing! We will definitely be back and hope to have the same service like Julissa gave us
The view and vibe of the place is crazy. Our whole group was a fan of the cocktails. favorite cocktail hands down was bird of paradise. Do check it out and don’t forget to take some cool pictures.
Wow, what a disappointment! This food is EXTREMELY overpriced for the quality and quantity! Im talking $20 for a bowl of gentrified guacamole, $30 for a tiny plate of potatoes, etc. The food lacked in flavor and love and was subpar, including zero vegan entree options. The music was way too loud, making it feel like a club in Miami. The only good thing was the very attentive and kind staff. Save your money by visiting a local business in Manhattan or Brooklyn once you take the ferry back.
The views to the city are out of this world. It doesn’t feel like NYC at all, ambiance, food and service are top notch. Our sever Javier was the nicest, very friendly and attentive
I recently dined at gitanos and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. From the start, trying to make a reservation was a hassle as the restaurant did not answer the phone despite multiple attempts. This should have been my first warning sign.Upon arrival, the service was lackluster and the food was even worse. The dishes were bland and poorly prepared, lacking the flavors and freshness one would expect. The presentation did little to make up for the taste, as it was clear minimal effort was put into it.Overall, my visit to gitanos was far from enjoyable. The poor customer service and subpar food make it difficult for me to recommend this restaurant to others.
Good place, nice food, the waiter Roberto was very friendly and helpful, definitely a worthy service
I had amazing time, fabi was a perfect waiter. However, the owner needs to invest in more servers as opposed to relying on digital service applications. We had a feast, the lobster tostadas and the chicken mole were perfect but We struggled with service as one person had to serve a large section.
The ambience is 80% of the experience here and it’s wonderful however, everything else needs work. The have stepped up on the food quality but they need better menu selections. Everything is close to being hors d’oeuvres and finger food. If you’re commuting by boat make it worth while with a more hearty selection. On this trip we made a reservation and there happened to be a fashion show taking place (for Daniels Leather) for nyfw. It took us a while to be seated because of it. Staff seemed overwhelmed. Our seating also wasn’t the best. It was more suitable for lounging and not eating, we were hunched over, trying not to make a mess of our clothing.
My experience at Gitano was excellent, the food was delicious, I recommend the tlayuda mushroom truffle. The service was very good, our waiter Oscar was very aware of everything and he knew how to recommend excellent dishes. The atmosphere is very relaxed and I would definitely go back without a second thought.
Loved our server Christian! Loved the food. What an awesome surprise, often this setting skates by with lackluster food. Not here. Loved loved loved.
Decent drinks but the food here is terrible. Group of 4 and nothing we ordered was close to being good, even though we listened to the server’s recommendations. The “large” shrimp plate was hilariously small and overpriced. They cut corners on the advertised ingredients in every dish.
The perfect escape from the every day hustle and bustle of Manhattan! After a few minutes on a ferry we were transported to Tulum for an authentic Coastal Mexican menu, with fresh tostadas, and frozen cocktails. Carlos our server was attentive and unpretentious. Enjoy your meal on a day bed so you can be the perfect blend of barefoot and bougie. 🏝️ 🏙️ 🍹
Came here for my bachelorette party and it was such a vibe. I have completely forgotten I was in NYC. Javi was so amazing. He was on top of all of our needs and made sure our experience was something special. Thank you Javi for being apart of our experience.
Just writing this to shout out our server, Anna, who took over our table after a disappointing experience with another server, Anna was attentive and made sure everything was great for our group. Drinks were good, first round they brought us was incorrect, other servers fault and he refused to correct it saying the drinks we got were what we ordered but they were not. He never came back to the table after that…but we moved past it, again thank you Anna. Food is good, not as good as it used to be, portions are small keep in mind, you’re definitely going for the vibe, still worth the visit just hope you get lucky with a good server
The atmosphere is perfect for summer! Javi our waiter was super attentive and helpful. The whole experience was relaxing and I’ll definitely bring back guests when they come to visit!
We came here for our 2nd year anniversary dinner and Fabian was absolutely AMAZING! The atmosphere is beachy, Tulum vibes with a beautiful view of the city! We will definitely be coming back with our friends again this summer!!
Service & food is mid ! I ask them to sign happy birthday which they did but never cleared my table the table was still full with empty plates so when the dessert came out the photos were not aesthetic !! The waiter had attitude as wellFood was not that good but the music was.
Mana our server was very nice!, she made sure we were enjoying our time there, never left our cups go empty. Her service is another level!
I have a great time on gitano on Thursday nightI came with friends and we order all the taco menu to share it was delicious favorite for the table was shrimp taco and we ending eating churros all in point our server javi help us a lot with the menu thank you gitano for a great experience music on point
Xavi took great care of us! This restaurant is the greatest. The birria taco was delicious and the cocktail as well!
The food, the drinks, the service and overall just the vibes were absolutely immaculate!! Will be back soon, perfect summer spot, kampachi tostadas literally sent meeeee. The ginger mint drink was amazing and the watermelon sage frozen margaritas were willlld good. Super cute and laid back spot for good music and light eats. Delicious!!!
Great ambiance, feels like you are completely away from nyc. Drinks are great and food is really tasty. Service was great, Carlos, our server, always made sure we were good with food and drinks.
On last Sundays downpour we found shelter at the main tent bar and stayed several drinks long..Stephanie ,an incredible ,super capable 👏 bartender with inspiring drink suggestions made our prolonged stay a breeze...we felt like being in vacation on a beautiful luxurious tropical island...a New York treat for sure..we will be back for sure
I made a reservation, the train was late and I called several times and sent messages to change my reservation or explain the situation, but no one answered. When I arrived they treated me badly, the security guy was extremely rude to me and my friends and let other girls in without a reservation because they were practically naked!!!! terrible service!
Fabian was our server, he is super friendly and very stylish! Loved the vibes. Food was delish. Service a little slow for food but overall great! And he gave us tequila shots. Will def come back!!
I do see the allure of it all but it missed the mark. I went on a Sunday for a special occasion. We had 6:00pm reservations and had to stand on line for about a half hour. The ambiance was nice but a bit dingy. They were going for a beach, bohemian, tulum-esque vibe. The dining room where I was seated is under a big black tent that favors more of a temporary structure, there is sand on the ground, greenery but not very lush greenery. Moldy umbrella in the front. Tight washroom facilities in a trailer (like most if not all of the island). There was a live dj playing dance music, but not too loud that you couldn’t have a conversation. The food was alright. We got birria tacos and prime ribeye steak. We asked for medium, we received well. I liked the churros, but this is my first time ever having it. By the time we were wrapping up, there were plenty more people sitting and standing up by the bar, some talking and drinking. Most people looked like they were happy to be there but I can’t say they were dancing, laughing, having fun, or delighting in the food -just looking good, and looking around the room. We had an okay waiter. Not bad, not impressive. I had to get up to get my own napkins and straws. Most of the evening he was in a haste. I would not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion for two, but maybe for a group. Don’t come here for fine dining, five star service or food. The experience altogether is very anticlimactic.
Juan Pablo was the best waiter EVER!!! Gitano restaurant has left the best impressions! wow!!!’Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, l recommend to everyone! I would like to come back here again and again. If you are lucky your waiter will be Juanpablo!!!! 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is the place to visit, music was vibe(ing), food was oh so tasty. And Roberto was so attentive and welcoming. This is the place to visit and enjoy.
Awesome atmosphere and good food! Our waiter Javi was great and very attentive. Highly recommended.
The vibe at Gitano is just amazing, great music, different areas and the views are breathtaking. The servers are kind and friendly! The dj set really made our evening!giorgias.travels on Instagram for more!
Food+service+music were excellent!! Thanks to Jaqueline and Joaquin for providing us with the best services!
Arrived at 7 pm on a Saturday, we asked to grab a seat at the bar. The bouncer says there are no walk ins on weekends. We asked to put our name on the waitlist for a table and he just said no. The place was half empty lolNever heard of no walk ins on weekend, also doesn’t state that anywhere on the website.Oh well 🤷♀️
My friend and I decided to try dinner at Gitano Island after reading about the restaurant, and were so pleasantly surprised by our experience. The food exceeded our expectations (Truffle Tlayuda was a true highlight and Im dreaming of having it again), and the service was quick, friendly, and incredibly helpful. I had the Sun Kissed cocktail, which was the perfect balance of tart and sweet to compliment the meal, and were already planning a next visit for a daytime brunch.
Excellent service and food! Such beautiful ambiance. Fabian is a gem of a human and excellent server. He gave great recommendations!
Went to Gitano on Sunday for drinks and food and was delighted by the overall experience! Drinks, food, and ambiance were a 10/10 and service was exceptional. One of my friends even won a free margarita bowl for participating in the drag show. I will definitely be back!
Excellent service! Thanks Carlos for your service. One of the best restaurants in New York!
I celebrated my birthday at Gitano and it was the BEST decision ever. We had so much fun, the view is amazing, vibes and the whole place is so stunning. It makes you feels like you are somewhere exotic. The food and drinks were awesome. Just a heads up, the portions are a bit on the smaller side. The staff at Gitano were awesome too! Super friendly and helpful, made sure everything ran smoothly for my birthday!
Amazing place for drinks with a view and cool music. Would def come back. Regarding food, tasty, not mindblowing.
Great food, great drinks! Javier was very attentive!
This is a nice place to come for a hangout. The food options are interesting but limited since this is a place to come for drinks and snacks more than dinner for food. The location is beautiful, the grounds are very well kept and the atmosphere is basically a beach side lounge.
Great vibes, super attentive and good food. Our waiter, Javier was amazing. Will definitely come back.
When you get there is really nice but then when you order the drinks taste horrible, the food does not fill you up and it’s expensive for only one drink and a snack I paid $61 which is not good for the quality and quantity. Overall I would never go back and they don’t even play good music!
Over priced, beautiful ambiance. You are paying for the ambiance entirely. $21 cocktails, is insane. $24 guacamole (basic) is even more insane. I got the waygu burger it was ok little bigger than a slider, nothing to talk about. I was honestly surprised about the prices. I dont mind spending money for great food n drinks but this was not it. Going to head to island oyster for cheaper and hopefully better drinks.
The restaurant has a serene tropical, beach side dining feel to it. The music is so good you’ll regret you ever heard it. Carlos from Colombia is cO.Ol and very attentive. Fun place for family events, kid-friendly.
We had a great time. We were so late to our res and they were to accommodating. Fabian was awesome.
Beautiful place the attention and the first food, we attended Roberto the best care thank you Gitano
I saw this place on Instagram and was excited to visit. I came from SC to experience what was advertised but looks are deceiving. The food wasn’t all that and the drinks were overpriced.
Amazing setting with spectacular food. Ask for Javier as your server! Drinks are perfection.
Just as a reminder, expect to put your own tacos together. My shrimp tacos did not come assembled! The shrimps came in a mini cast iron skillet with the tortillas served separately in a foil paper.
OUR visit to Gitano Island left a lot to be desired. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation at 12 pm. and were coldly greeted by a very bored looking host.Once we were seated, we quickly realized we were the first guests of the day, and they were still very much setting up. However, the website and brunch menu indicate they open at 11?!It took 20 minutes just for someone to touch the table and bring us water. The hostess then sat a party with children at the table directly next to us despite us being the only people in the dining area and at least 20 other tables available. They even asked to move, but they told them NO because they were booked!!Shortly after, a server finally came by, and we ordered 2 Americanos as in coffee, to which she replied “let me check if we have the stuff to make that”. Left for 5 minutes, and then, instead of returning to confirm, she started taking the order of the table right next to us. When she did finally come by (because we asked for her to come), she said that our cocktails would be out shortly. We then corrected her and reiterated that we wanted coffee, not the cocktail “Americano”. To which she replied “we don’t have coffee”. WHAT? I asked, what kind of place serves brunch but doesn’t have coffee? She said it’s because they opened 3 weeks ago. I am still NOT sure what that has to do with serving coffee. At this point, we were fed up but too hungry to go anywhere else, so we just ordered food. Unfortunately, all 6 dishes we ordered came at once. The best thing was the roasted potatoes!!! The Guac was okay at best, and the kampachi tostada was way over salted. We quickly paid and left.TLDR; Mediocre food and Awful service.
The food was authentic, delicious and portions huge! The music was so fun and promotes an amazing vibe. The service was totally on the money .Perfect Trifecta!Sit in Fabian’s section. He’s attentive, fun and friendly.
Had an amazing time at Gitano today! Our waiter, Fabian, was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and even treated us to complimentary shots. The food and drinks were perfect for a summer day. Highly recommend this place!
Javi is wonderful! The restaurant has a great vibe and good food! I would highly recommend the mushroom sope and the cocktails !
Absolutely incredible experience at Gitano island!! Food, drinks, service makes you feel like you’re on a tropical island. Can’t recommend enough. Alonso the manager takes such good care of all customers
The worst staff! They are mean and treated us disrespectfully! They wouldn’t seat us even though 90% of the restaurant was empty since we didn’t have reservations! They even lied to us and said people are coming even though that was clearly not true! And it was our engagement day…
First of all I’m not one to leave bad reviews but this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had. My wife and I had a reservation for 715, once seated our waiter didn’t even come to our table till 745. Granted the place was busy so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Once our order was taken we didn’t even receive our drinks until 1/2 way through our meal. One of our orders never came to the table. The waiter didn’t come to our table once during the meal to check if we needed anything else. Food came out cold. Finally he shows up I ask for the bill and tell him to take off the one item that never showed. He then proceeds to tell me it was never placed. As I was paying the bill a bus boy must have cleared out table and taken my drink before I was finished. This was a clase azul drink on the rocks which was a 45 dollar drink. I found the waiter and told him what happened and he proceeded to argue with me that no one cleared the table and took my drink. At that point I was so frustrated I just left. Just terrible service we’ll never come back and don’t waste your time. I don’t care about the money it’s the principle.
So I really liked the overall vibe of the restaurant. It’s a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city. The food was mediocre. Not nasty but nothing to brag about or come back for. I did enjoy the drinks. I’d maybe come back to sit in the lounge area and grab some drinks rather than for the food
Its an Instagram Hotspot and you pay 25% extra just for that.. we paid a 100 each just for 2 drinks and a tiny bit of food.. but we knew that before.. its a great view and nice people..
Great vibe, food and service. For a party of 10 it was very accomodating. Makes you feel like youre in a different country. Definitely coming back
Amazing, Chic, Unforgettable Cocktails, The HOT SPOT for your Summer day trip. Perfect Day Trip from Brooklyn. Service was great, from the hosts that greeted us to the waiters that recommended the amazing cocktails. This was opening week and the place was packed, but service was seemless. This place will be place to be and to be seen this summer that is for sure.
I can’t even explain how upset I am with this restaurant. I had reserved a 8pm dining reservation here for my fiancé 40th birthday while staying at governors island for the night and they cancelled at 2pm. I made all these plans and cancelled a different place to eat to here because of their “high” reviews and now I have no place to eat. The other restaurant is booked and I am on a waitlist. This is extremely insensitive and unprofessional. I wouldn’t recommend this place not because of the food but because it is unreliable. Two weeks I booked the reservation and they cancel same day hours before. Horrible.
Beautiful place and feeling the summer tulum vibes.
Went to Gitano Island to celebrate my birthday with my husband and a couple of friends. Ferry ride was easy, quick, and it only took us about 15 mins to get inside the restaurant as there was a bit of a lineup to get in. It was fairly packed but there was lots of room to move around and we were seated within 15-20 mins. The website made it clear that each reservation had a maximum limit of 2 hours, so we booked another reservation at Gitano Island, this time on the lounge chairs outside instead of in the main dining area. Our first reservation inside was at7:45, and our second was at 9:15. We assumed there would be ample time to eat and move between both in that 1.5 hour time frame. We were grossly incorrect. Our server came and brought us a half full bottle of water for the table. When I asked for more water, she never brought it. She finally did after I asked her for more again; about 30 minutes later. We ordered our drinks, and those didn’t come for approximately 30 minutes as well. Whilst taking our food order; our server was distracted and clearly not focussed. It took several tries to communicate what we wanted to order: one plate of guac, shishito pepper, the watermelon salad and the short rib birria. We asked for guac and peppers to be served first, then salad and birria. Our food didn’t come until at least an hour of us having sat in our spot (approx 8:45-8:50) and when it did come, it came all at once, and our guac was missing. When we tried to inform the person who brought our food, we were rudely shrugged off and told to wait for our server. Additionally, the host was quite rude and condescending when we inquired about our table at 9:15, as we were concerned that with the current pace of the service, we wouldn’t finish our food by the time it was time to move.We attempted several times to flag down our server, but she spent at least 10-15 minutes at other large tables and ignored us completely. We even had to get up and go to her, which is absolutely ludicrous - and we were still ignored. When we were finally able to track her down, she had a very hard time remembering and understanding what our order was and what we had asked for - we had to repeat it several times for her to understand. It is highly unusual that a place as famous is Gitano, with locations in Tulum and Dubai, would employ individuals with such a lack of training and experience. Now at 9:10pm, our guacamole still hadn’t arrived, and we were informed that they ran out. We were offered a meagre replacement instead. When we spoke to the server about having some items taken off the bill as a result of the horrid service, she was rude and didn’t seem to understand what the issue was. We asked to see a manager, kindly, and she refused to bring one over until the bill was asked for. Thankfully, a very polite and understanding manager did come and take some items off our bill which appeased us for the rest of the night - unfortunately too little too late. An establishment like this, which is touted to be something world-renowned, should have an adequate amount of properly trained staff prior to opening. It’s not sustainable otherwise and I would highly advise against going again until these issues are sorted out.The food was quite good, but I wouldn’t go back to Gitano island. The service was terrible, and the vibes were not what we were promised. The island was basically a ghost town by 10pm - which, by the way, was when we were finally able to move from our original indoor table to our outdoor seating. There were maybe 10 people left to catch the 11pm ferry. Disappointing and I won’t go again. I understand there are complications in industries like this, but a place like this should not over-promise and under-deliver to this extent.
Gitano is amazing! I love the music and the beach vibes! Food and drinks are great as well, our server Roberto is the best!!!
This place is amazing ! I love the vibes, latin music on Thursday is great. Dj Fabian Quitian is so kind. The whole service is pretty good. Keep it up!!
This place is for the atmosphere the food is good but the ambiance is what this place is all about. The service is excellent, courteous and friendly.
Merlot was an incredible server, so personable, the food was tasty, the drinks good as well… a great evening celebrating a birthday! Highly recommend
Fabian was amazing!! Always ask for him- drinks were good, and it was beautiful
We ate the food and it was very nice we ordered 🥑+🥙(guac and chips) and they missed our order. But it overall is a good experience. After that, they gave us a free cake 🎂 for the confusion 😁
We had so much on fun at Gitano. We were a party of 7 and we sat in the lounge and enjoyed their brunch menu. The music was chill, the view was beautiful, and the service was on point. Javi took such great care of us - so attentive, helpful, and kind. Two thumbs up!!
Javi was wonderful and created such a nice experience for us! We will absolutely be back when we come to the island!
Ian. I have no words for how wonderful Ian is as a server! He set the vibe and the sexy atmosphere! He’s vibrant!
The food and drinks are pretty expensive (a beer is $9) - but my beer was cold and my wife said her margarita was very good. Food was quite good. Staff was quite friendly and helpful. Not really too crowded when we were there on a Friday night recently (which is good). Would definitely go back.
Not a bad venue in terms of vibe and drinks... that said, theres a gender neutral bathroom area with like 4 toilets per trailer and no locks on stalls or signs indicating there are no locks.Investment Idea: either separate the bathrooms appropriately or install locks on the stalls. This is not safe for women. Its common sense and yall crazy if you think otherwise~
I have nothing bad to say about this place. The bathrooms were clean, the atmosphere gave you jungle away from the city. We had a great time. I read a ton of reviews before going and I have to agree with quite a few of them. The portion of good you get for the price is a little underwhelming. Its all delicious, but $20 for 2 small tacos is a little jarring. I ended up ordering 2 sets because it wasnt enough food. My partner enjoyed his burger. Even talked about it the following day. We did not feel rushed at all. They let us relax. Reserving a table was not hard. I just with there was a definitive distinction on the areas youre reserving. We sat in the jungle area and it was nice. We didnt have alcohol, so nothing to say there. It was my partners birthday and they sang to him. It was all around a nice experience.
Amazing service! Would return. May was the best!
We had an amazing time in this place. The moment I walked in I was just transported to Tulum again. The hosts were extremely nice and warming. The manager was absolutely adorable, her name is Li and she was so caring that took my elderly mom by her hand to the restroom and make sure we had a great experience. My server, Pepe, an adorable welcoming men. The food he suggested was superb and he was always checking on my table to make sure we got everything we needed. I highly suggest this place and I’ll definitely coming back.
An amazing place! really had a very good time.. nice food and cool drinks.. prices are fair… Fully recommended!!!
Fabean was awesome. The service was great, flavorful and he was so friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be back! Great smile!
The food was AMAZINGGGGG!!! Everything was great. Mikey was a great server
Everything was amazing. Food and service was superb. Our server, Christain was amazing. Will definitely be coming back!
I love this place, the nature, the view, the atmosphere, the food is delicious. We loved Fabians service 💗💗 a place to go with your friends and enjoy the summer
Cams here for drag brunch and it was a vibe. Good music and entertainment! Best part wasnt the food or drinks, it was our server merlo who was super attentive and friendly!
Gitano was great! We had a great server named Roberto. Only drawback was the wait time for the food. Will definitely come back.
I loved the experience and the energy of this place! The food was good, the staff were nice, attentive and polite! ❤️❤️❤️
I had the most amazing time for my birthday. Our waiter, Fabian, was so nice and accommodating! I felt really special and taken care of.
Everything was really good and the best part was the customer service from Ian!! Hes really nice and sweet for sure Ill be here again for him and the manager too!!
Service was top notch. Merlot was so attentive and handled our large party with grace. Music was fire and the food was amazing.
This place is awesome! We loved the food. We had an amazing waiter called Havier. Incredible view
Thankyou for hosting me for my birthday 🎂 the food was great, the drinks are great, the atmosphere and views are beautiful!
Really feel like an island atmosphere, great to visit, good food!
Great ambience and service was outstanding thanks to Fabian. He took his time, gave up recommendations, and was just so fun to interact with.
Literally such a fun place! Seriously go here the food was great, the employees were so friendly and funny, and just the vibes in general we’re just incredible. Id definitely recommend going towards the night for a club feel! Shoutout to Manuel Sanabria and Marlot for the best customer service i’ve experienced in a while :DDD
Such a great experience at Gitano! Great service from our waiter Fabiano and would definitely come back! Loved the food and atmosphere!
I went to Gitano today and had an amazing time, I sat at the bar and ordered the jungle fever margarita, the truffle tlayuda and the guacamole, everything was very tasty. The whole vibe of the restaurant makes you feel like you have escaped New York!!!Higly recommmended!
We had Merlot as our server and she was absolutely amazing! Accommodated us in all the specific request we had for our drinks! Just a pleasure! Will definitely be returning to Gitano!
Came for the linux party. Absolutely 0% effort or intention into the space, visuals, curation. Mixed the gays with the straights and the straight really brought the energy DOWN. It’s more exciting at a corporate wall street bar party. We told the staff and on the invite it was our anniversary and absolutely 0 acknowledgment or anything.Decent vibes but again absolutely 0 curation so it was cute vibes in a random space with random people. Not worth coming out. They try to come off as the hamptons but it’s giving new jersey. Jersey shore with meth needles. Also we finished drinking and eating at 6:20 and didn’t get noticed for the check until 7:03pm. Insane.
Great tucked away space away from the city, that feels like a south american country with solid energy to keep the night going.. until the ferry brings you back.
Martin was incredible. The food, drinks and ambiance were amazing. I will definitely be back!
I had a great experience, I loved the place and the music and the vibe!!! Thanks for everything, Roberto the server was amazing!!
Excellent place to enjoy good food, the attention of the waiter (Roberto) and his very accurate recommendations for what you wanted to eat.
Good drinks but mediocre food. Also, food was served on a chipped plate. Overall, not a good value for the price.
Had a really great time here - food and atmosphere was great. Our server Javier was fantastic!
I love the place, I feel like I’m at the beach! Everything was great, especially our server Roberto!
Great place for cocktails and small bites. A must do if you’re out on Governor’s Island.
The view was amazing at the beach front and our sever was Micky he was cool and even took pics of us we really appreciated that
We we seated in the lounge area and had the awesome Roberto taking care of us. The drinks were fabulous and the food delish. This place is a vibe.
Very lively and fun place to go with a group or as a couple. Atmosphere feels like an escape from the concrete jungle and gives getaway vibes. Food is delicious. Service is great. Reservations are needed unless you plan to hang out at the bar as this place gets packed. I have been here twice and will be going back.
Very overpriced and underwhelming food wise. $16 for tostada below and tacos started at 24$. Really nice vibe and DJ was great tho. Would come back to drink and dance but not eat
The ambience is good but the food is not it. We ordered the chilaquiles and a 5 year old could make it better. It was underwhelming. The 2 stars only for the ambience. Wouldnt recommend.
We went here after a day at the QC Spa for my friends birthday, and the vibes were immaculate. Its lively, fun, and has great views. We were served by Joaquin, who was attentive and delightful. We only had drinks and snacks, but the prices were decent and the drinks especially were top-notch.
I literally love Roberto & the crew. The view, amazing and you could really enjoy a beautiful day/ night here. I’m coming back. Thank you for this.
Javi was amazing and so attentive. The food was great and the vibe was everything. You forget you’re in NyC
