Dolly Varden is a cozy spot with a lot going for it. The service was excellent—friendly and attentive—and the portion sizes were very generous, which is always a plus. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it a great place to relax and enjoy a meal. I tried the deviled eggs, breakfast flatbread, egg white omelet, and steak and eggs. While everything was tasty and well-prepared, the flavors felt a bit understated—I found myself wishing for just a bit more boldness or creativity to make the dishes truly memorable. Overall, it’s a great choice for the cozy vibe, generous portions, and fantastic service, with some room to grow in terms of flavor.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Dolly Varden for Sunday brunch, and it turned out to be quite a delightful surprise. One dish that stood out to me was the deviled eggs. Not only were they visually appealing with their beautiful presentation, but they also had a wonderfully creamy flavor that left me thoroughly impressed.Moving on to the French-style omelette, it was simply delicious. The eggs were cooked to perfection, fluffy and light, and the addition of Gruyère cheese and kale added a delightful combination of flavors. However, we did request tomatoes to be included in our omelette, but unfortunately, they seemed to be missing. Despite this minor oversight, the overall quality of the omelette was still commendable.Overall, Dolly Varden is a place I would gladly return to for another Sunday brunch. The deviled eggs and French-style omelette were both delicious, and the waiter could have been more attentive, as they were not full. (Hence 4 stars) If youre looking for a brunch spot Dolly Varden is definitely worth a visit.

The spot is cool, location is kind of random unless youre at central park (just my opinion). The brunch deal seems worth it, but didnt try it. The spicy margaritas was tasty. I got the steak & eggs and the salad was good, potatoes were good, and egg was good. The steak was truthfully only ok. Too chewy for my taste-i think that may be due to the cut.Service was standard & we had a really nice waiter. Outside seating was clean & nice.

I ate here on my trip to NYC and it was fantastic! Our food was great and our service was outstanding! Our server, Chloe, had great recommendations for food and beverages, and made sure we had the best time while we were there and made our experience that much more enjoyable. I had the Risotto Balls, Salmon, Steak Frites, and some of their bar menu drinks and everything was 5/5! Definitely would recommend to stop by.

First I want to thank everyone that worked on June 8th 2024. Your professionalism, upbeat personalities, consideration and constant attendance went above and beyond our expectations. We chose Dolly Varden in NYC to have a family brunch for my sisters 16th birthday. Online we loved the location and design of the space. The menu looked delicious and reaching out to the hosting and reservation staff was seamless. The email communication and contract was forthright and no hidden fees. The brunch selection was delicious and satisfied everyone I really could eat the DV burger or waffles or the berries and cream that came with dessert everyday! So good. All the teens loved the chocolate mouse with berries and cream. My family had a unexpected loss not even a full 24 hours before we had to make it to brunch and we were in shock but wanted to remain rallied around my sister for her birthday. I will forever sang praises for the staff and experience at Dolly Varden who unknowingly uplifted our spirits by being so generous in their hospitality. The private room was gorgeous and the peacock wallpaper everyone loved. For a group of 24 we weren’t crammed in. We had space to move around and mingle and eat comfortably. Two restrooms nearby one directly in the room was a major plus especially once we changed clothes to go to our second location that day for my sisters birthday. 10/10 recommend… sorry I don’t have any photos of the good food and beverages but please take my word for it. So good and worth it all around.

I think the space is great. The staff is great and the food and cocktails are great. But this place isnt a club.I just had to leave (along with a lot of other patrons) because the DJ was RIDICULOUSLY loud.Everyone kept asking the staff to turn it down but we were told ...its sort of up to the DJ...Well, unless the owners dont give a shit and the DJ can make all your financial decisions for you....cool 👍I wanted to start bringing clients and groups here but I never will be able to on a night with a DJ

I normally don’t write reviews but I just wanted to highlight and thank the assistant general manager, Lindsey Fuentes, and her day staff for their patience, hospitality, and grace on August 3rd, and their generosity on August 4th. Really a cool place with amazing cocktails and tasty food. We just wanted a late night bite after a show and Dolly Varden did not disappoint. The waiter recommended the pork sliders, which were fantastic, and we also got mac & cheese which was delicious. I got a few different cocktails and they were all better than I expected. We also ended up ordering some carrot cake and the presentation was beautiful. So glad we stopped by!

The server didn’t check on us to see if everything was okay and let us know the kitchen would close so we could have a chance to order it wanted. It turns out we wanted to order more food and they closed the kitchen.Horrified at the presentation of the menu and bathrooms:Some of the menus were soiled. As we’ve never heard of the place before, we were pleasantly surprised with the great food options and beautiful cocktails offered on the menu. Somebody had a vision for a restaurant with roaring 20s decor, amazing cocktails, and incredible food, and went about executing that vision to perfection. The burger was perfect: juicy and full of flavor. The short-rib baguette was a wonderful contrast between tenderness of the short-rib and outer crisp of the baguette. Again full of flavor. Zoom in on the photos to see how juicy they are. For the asparagus side, they shaved off the skin, you get the crunch without any toughness. No ordinary restaurant does that. We also ordered an espresso martini and was delighted by how good it tasted. I hope this place thrives so we can come back many times more.

I couldnt be happier with my experience at Dolly Varden! The cocktails were 🔥🔥🔥 and oh so pretty! The duck breast was perfectly cooked and well prepared. Did I need to get dessert? No. Did I get anyway because I was enjoying my meal so much? Yes. I am not a huge fan of toffee but this pudding was great and rounded off my meal well. My waiter David was accommodating to the fact I was going see a show and made sure I was finished with plenty of time to get myself settled in at the theater. Thank you all for a great experience! 10/10 will be coming back!

Super cute art deco themed restaurant with two levels and two bars. We went here for dinner at 5:30 pm before a 7pm Broadway show, during happy hour. I’d recommend if you are coming before a show with a larger group, do plan on 2 hrs prior - they get busy and don’t have a large kitchen. The menu is clearly marked if item is gluten-free and our waiter asked if there were any food allergies to be aware of, and noted them as he was taking the order.

We were allowed to stay and laugh and drink without being rushed and the entire staff was lovely. The food wasnt very pretty but tasted good, which is more important. And it was so filling that I didnt have room for a birthday dessert. Went here for brunch and loved the vibe. Indoor and outdoor both have a cool aesthetic. Started off with their mimosa tree with different flavors like orange, pineapple, hibiscus, passion fruit, peach and mango. First time Ive seen this. It was unique and fun. The hibiscus was my favorite flavor. For starters were got the pork belly bao and thai wings. Both were pretty good. We tried several different entrees like the chicken and waffles. The rosemary maple syrup with the jalapeno cheddar waffle were a delicious combo. Their short rib baguette and bacon egg and cheese were both good, but the star of brunch was their Captain Crunch french toast with thick-cut brioche, berries, and vanilla ice cream. It was so good. We ended with their crème broulee and lemon sorbet for dessert. Definitely check it out.

I was so excited to try their brunch menu since I heard good things about this place. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. The interior of this restaurant is so beautiful and the waiters were amazing. Really loved the service! However, food was underwhelming… the chicken and waffles looked and smelled delicious, but the waffle was so salty, I had to drizzle lots of syrup on it but it was still pretty salty after. We gave our dessert order to one of the hosts (who seemed to not understand what we wanted) because we couldnt find anyone else. We actually got our check before we got our desserts. Me and my partner came for the Weekday Brunch. All i have to say is, don’t waste your time coming here. Apart from the beautiful Speakeasy, private low lite ambiance they provide , that’s all they pretty much have to offer. The food doesn’t look like anything in the photos, it was cold and bland, the waitresses attitude was a ribbon on the present. Other people even told us they sent their food back. The drinks I would give the benefit of the doubt, although the staple Brunch Taste is a Mimosa, I’ve had better. My friend and I had a mind blowingly good galentines celebration here! While this review is going to get into the food, Id be remiss to not mention that the staff here are truly incredible people. Our waiter David was amazing and just the sweetest person, as are all of the women working at the hostess station. When I called to confirm whether they still had their outdoor heated railcar, they said they did but that we would have to order at the bar and then take food out there. While I normally would be fine with that compromise, Dolly Varden has six steps and both my friend and I have mobility disabilities, plus I need to eat outdoors due to COVID-19 risk factors. When I explained all this, the hostess agreed to make an exception. I would have been happy just to order and get my food but David went out of his way to check on us and really was so thoughtful about giving us the same experience as anyone who could eat inside. Now onto the food! Ive been here a few times and normally I find the food good but not mine blowing. Im not kidding when I say I was blown away by their Valentines Day menu. This is a must!!$45 gets you an entree and an app or dessert. And not just any entree but a filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus and a fra diavolo pasta with lobster and other seafood. We decided to try both entrees, and the pasta was truly special. We also really loved the burrata small plate and the chocolate mousse dessert, but will be dreaming of that pasta forever and ever.Wheelchair access: to be clear, Dolly Varden does have an accessible entrance, but as its a staff operated lift that cannot be accessed independently, going in and out takes a bit of effort.

My friends and I went to Dolly Varden at 1pm on a Sunday. We made a reservation, which I highly recommend if you plan to eat here. I tried one weekend to get in as a walk-in, and the wait was really long. The ambiance is slightly elevated casual, and the noise level was fine.I got the Captain Crunch French Toast ($19), and my friends split the Dollys Grilled B.E.C. ($22). This is totally on me, but I should have looked up an image of the french toast before. Captain Crunch is my favorite cereal, especially with the crunch berries, and I was expecting to delve deep into a sweet monstrosity. However, it was just regular french toast coated with grated cereal. So in that regard, I was disappointed. I thought the french toast itself was light and moist, helped with a thin layer of cream in the middle. The ice cream was... interesting. If youre a fan of the Try Guys, they did a video where Keiths ice cream came out with a gum-like consistency, which is kind of how the ice cream felt. My friends both mentioned the B.E.C. was average, and nothing stood out to them. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating and did multiple check-backs. Overall, for a restaurant located so close to the touristy things, the prices are not bad. If youre in the area looking for decent food, definitely check out Dolly Varden.

Honestly, we had high hopes going into this, good reviews, a pleasant environment, and what looked like a good selection on the brunch menu. This place turned out to be a big disappointment.Right from the get-go, it took us(a table of two) 40 minutes to be seated. We sat there and patiently waited as multiple tables were open and unattended. The menu looked reasonably appetizing. We ordered steak and eggs and a burger. Eggs were asked over medium, arrived barely over easy. The steak seemed very sad, the seasoning agreed with the theme. It’s almost as if all the dishes had no salt. Requests for the burger were ignored(wife has a dietary restriction). Our drinks soda, and orange juice arrived flat, and fermented. Management was nice enough but it seemed very unorganized from the back to the front of the restaurant. With a city full of quality choices don’t waste your hard earned cash here with a plethora of better options in the neighborhood.

Dolly Varden is a really nice cocktail bar, which is located in Hells Kitchen!! I visited this weekend for the first time (to sit at the bar with a couple of friends). The atmosphere inside of this place is amazing - the bar & its surrounding seating areas are so cozy. Further, the bartender took amazing care of our group and made our experience so lovely!! Their cocktails are delicious (try the Harlem Sunset), and their food is awesome (I highly recommend the Risotto Balls + Garlic Mashed Potatoes). This is a great spot - highly recommend!

This is the place! Wow, I been in NY 16 years but havent been to a place that was from start to finish a 10. Me and my friend stopped in on a random Monday night after working out nearby. We were hungry so we ordered an appetizer, two meals, one with truffle fries and one with a salad, and a dessert. First off the bartender was friendly and nice, Michael, and he made us feel at home. My friend got his drink a Mai Way and drank it like water! Haha. It was pretty delicious. But my choice was a Brazilian inspired drink. I cant remember the name, but it was like being back in the country because I love Cachaça. The atmosphere of the place is super sexy. We we only stayed downstairs, but the theme makes you feel like youre on a train, which is kinda cool, 1920s kinda vibe. So, this place won on service, because even the manager checked in with us and the bus boy was fast. Like literally we finished our food and they took the plates away. The food was great. We ate so much. Even at the end we ordered one more item because it was soo good. And the ambiance is special. Unique. Anyways, I dont leave many reviews, but this place made me happy. And not many places in NYC do that. Thanks Michael and everyone at Dolly Varden. You run a tight ship! Or shall I say, Train! :) :P

It can be tough to find restaurants in the city that will accommodate a large party for weekend brunch, but Dolly Varden came through. We placed a reservation for a party of 16 for a Saturday birthday brunch, and the manager Lindsey was very accommodating in helping us. She seated us in a lovely private area of the restaurant and repeatedly checked on us to make sure everything was ok. The food and drinks were fantastic, the prices were reasonable, the decor/atmosphere was beautiful, and all the employees we encountered—from the bartender and servers to the manager Lindsey and the man mopping the floor on our way out—were kind and friendly.Would definitely recommend this place and can’t wait to return to try their dinner menu!

We had brunch reservations when they opened and they were confused why we were there and we had to explain that we had reservations to two different people. We were sat at a table on the lower level to wait until the hostess arrived. Once she did, she sat us on the upper level at the table closest to the bathrooms and kitchen in an empty restaurant. Several people in our group ordered coffee and it arrived in tea cups with saucers and the saucers were filled with coffee, making a mess. The waitress said she would bring napkins to clean it up but she never did. Someone in our group ordered Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon vs avocado (she’s allergic) or bacon (she’s vegetarian). When the food arrived, the dish had avocado with no smoked salmon, she tried explaining what she ordered to the food runner and she yelled for the waitress in the back. She came back with the dish trying to give it back to her saying that they were out of smoked salmon so they made with avocado instead. She had to order something else, causing the food to be late. Overall, this place is cute for drinks but avoid for food.

This place is wonderful. I was a little worried about finding a place that could handle a group of 11 for dinner in Midtown, but that folks at Dolly Varden went out of their way to accommodate our large family group during a recent trip to the city. The service was fantastic, and everyone in the group absolutely loved the food -- not small feat considering that the ages ranged from 9 to 76. The combination of the excellent staff, fun atmosphere, and impeccable food really made the teenagers in our group feel like they had a particularly hip NYC experience, which is exactly what we were hoping for. If these folks can impress a 17 year old who thinks shes too cool for everything, theyre doing everything right!

Was excited to try this place because of the cute outdoor dining setup (vintage train car!) and good reviews. The decor didnt disappoint, but everything else fell flat. We simply ordered brunch entrees, not wanting to indulge in alcohol, so I cant speak to the cocktails served. We decided on the chicken and waffle, steak and eggs, and shrimp and grits. Lots of ands. The food took a noticeable while to come out from the kitchen. The kind of while where you look at each other and say, I wonder where our food is. The server did come out to let us know it would be a few more minutes. (It was not busy at the time.) We sat drinking our water and finished the entire bottle. No one refilled it, even though we placed it at the edge of the table. When the food finally came out, it looked... OK. The fried chicken lacked seasoning, and the batter was over fried. The eggs were supposed to be over medium but came out well done. The steak looked a bit sad and grayish and also lacked flavor. The shrimp and grits seemed to be decent; I didnt hear any complaints. (After I completed my review, I realized I forgot to comment on the waffle. That says enough.) Service was adequate. In the sea of excellent establishments in NYC, this one missed the mark for me.

However I was not able to hve those meals because they were served on a weekends as brunch. So I had the appetizers wings with asian sauce & pork belly tacos which were very good. For our entrees my hubby got the Short Ribs which he returned. Yes the plate was beautiful, meat a decent size with these lovely veggies...but it had no distinctive flavor that you could compare it with or to. So I gave it a try & he was right...No taste to compare with. I had the Roasted Salmon with couscous & itches delish. Im willing to return for the fried chicken & waffles just need to call. Talk about customer service. Between the bartender Michael and the manager Lindsay I would 10/10 recommend.Let’s start from the beginning we arrived without a reservation and they recommended for us to sit by the bar while we waited for a table. We ended up staying at the bar because Michael was so awesome. We ended up doing the $55 unlimited mimosas and entre. I came with my girls so we had the brisket sandwich, the breakfast burger, and yard bird sandwich. Everything was exceptional. The yard bird’s bread was soggy at the bottom and the manager Lindsay was quick to fix it and although I didn’t enjoy the second time around it’s the customer service throughout the entire experience that guaranteed us returning. But pause the brisket sandwich was juicy and flavorful, fresh baguette and just *chefs kiss*.The breakfast burger was also flavorful and cooked to expectations. The vibes in here are exceptional DJ Brian did his thing. He set the vibe and his transitions and variety was just next level. And the highlight? Bartender Michael was amazing to interact with, he had great recommendations and just the energy was rewarding.10/10 would come back.

A+ for the quality of the food, the cool wait staff, and the creative ambiance inside and out. The kale salad was done perfectly! They lost a star for not enough vegetarian/gluten-free options and for their lack of empathy or understanding when asked to turn the music down outside. They lost another star for not offering any lower-cost or small plates options - even the smallest appetizer was $16 (total bill for 4 adults and 2 children was $400 with tip)Complaint:Keep in mind I dont mind loud music myself too much if I am just drinking with a friend. But our six-person party included a 78-year-old grandpa with hearing problems and a 13-year-old, (whose Birthday we were there to celebrate), with sensory overload issues. We also couldnt hear each other over the music and the kid was trying to deal with it but was getting stressed by the volume. (They had just had a panic attack earlier in the day.) I tried to call (from the outdoor booth because I couldnt get out without making people have to get up) to ask discreetly for the music (on the speaker right over our heads) to be turned down just a little bit - they did not do it the first 2 requests and when they did, they just put it back up a minute later. One member of the host staff came out twice (interrupting us and bringing attention to exactly the thing I was trying to avoid talking about). Finally the owner arrived, who asked very angrily, leaning back, flapping his arms at his sides with palms to the heavens, rudely asking about what we were asking for, embarrassing both the person with the hearing problem and the person with sensory overload issues. With all the eyes on me from my fellow customers, I apologized quietly to him that I just couldnt hear over the volume to have a convo, blaming it on myself, because I didnt want to point out publicly about the elder with the hearing problem and the teen with the mental issues. I had to quietly repeat myself three or four times because he just stood there staring at me with his open arms angrily. It was all just very rude.I was just trying to help my party have a dinner where we could communicate and not be stressed out. And the long stare that seemed to last forever from the owner was way over the top rude and he looked at me like I had three heads and was speaking in tongues! Knock it off - confrontational much!!?So sorry I asked for a little accommodation for the people in my party. It wont happen again because we wont be back. I guess dropping $400 at a restaurant doesnt mean you get any accommodations around how loud theyre going to blare music in your ears.If anyone in your party has Special Needs do not come here!(My review is at least the 3rd one thats specifically talks about discrimination against people with special needs at this establishment.)

Lindsey the manager made sure everything about our dine was top notch and taken care of. She personally checked on us as each component of the meal was presented. The bartender Tatiana kept great company with fantastic drinks and lively conversation. Her old fashioned was perfectly balanced between sweets and bitters with respect for the whiskey. Kevin was also lovely company as he stopped by the bar and chatted while picking up orders. Being able to balance great service with warm company is impressive, and we were very happy to have it. I have waited to talk about the food because I couldn’t find a fault in it. The chicken and waffles was a wonderful take on the southern classic with a jalapeño infused waffle to enhance the flavors. The breakfast burger was rich and complex without overwhelming the pallet. It had all the flavors of breakfast from the sweet bacon to the soft egg and still did not loose the concept of a burger. The beef was tender and the bun well toasted. The brunch cocktails are all delicious even thought they are on tap. Overall a loverly time. Special thanks to June for the great DJ set. She ate.

This is a subtle NYC winner. The ground level gives the ambiance of late night retro diner meetup however, it is anything but that. The careful flavors peaked our taste buds with no one flavor overpowering the other. I appreciate that each flavor was given its moment on our pallette. Drinks are very yummy.

A really cool place with a great story to go with it. Last train that rode on the highline. Had the octopus with asparagus. Would recommend it if you’re after something interesting.

Absolutely gobsmacked by how good this was. The service was amazing and it wasn’t too crowded even on a Saturday. I still recommend making a reservation ahead of time! Especially if you want to sit outside (which requires you to select that option). The food is perfectly cooked and seasoned, plus the restaurant has a great, slightly quirky ambience. We got in and out in less than an hour and we absolutely demolished everything on our plates.

Do yourself a favor and just go. We ventured there after dining at their sister restaurant Peachy Keen and now we have to try all of them under HKH. We arrived to the smile and energy of Kiana who made us feel right at home and ready to enjoy our experience. We chose to sit out on the patio which did not disappoint with the passers by, sights and sounds of Gotham. We sat for brunch, I went with the Crispy Wings in the Hawaiian Pineapple Sauce, 6 good size wings with an explosion of tropical flavors. My husband went with the Avocado Toast which was a substantial portion size with a perfect amount of avocado. Our friend did the Eggs Benedict with the thick cut bacon. All were very happy with the food and we did the Brunch and Bubbles and were satisfied, Michael made sure the drinks were never empty and we were able to try Mai Way concoction he made that would be absolutely phenomenal 10/10 over crushed ice and all the different options! Lindsey came over with her big smile to check in on us and make sure all was fabulous along with Penny! We will absolutely be back!!

Such a cute place and the brunch menu was GREAT! Another NYC spot to enjoy when in town seeing some shows on Broadway. Far enough away from the crowds of Times Square but close enough to the theaters. ENJOY!

We were looking for a place to kill time until the broadway show and found this gem of a place. Interior looked very nice and almost gave a speakeasy vibe.Bartender was very friendly and gave us recommendation on cocktail, based on our preference. My partner and friend had the Harlem Sunset, which had the cutest ice shaped like a rose! I ordered the Pomp Goes The Whimsy, which was not overly sweet and tasted amazing!Definitely cant wait to come back here again and try their other cocktails!

Food is great, but my friend and I got charged for another tables bill that was DOUBLE the amount of ours, while our paper check was correct. So there was no way of seeing that we were charged double the amount we owed until we looked at our banking app (luckily my iPhone gives me a notification when my card gets charged)Had to walk back there and sort it with the manager, and didnt even get a discount on the actual bill at all! And it would seem that the other table only paid half of what they actually owed if they were charged ours by mistake (must be nice!) Incompetence of staff who dont even pour you water anymore then ask for a 25% tip at the end is just driving me mad!

The best thing here was the drinks! Let them eat cake if you like sweet sweet and the jalapeño drink if you like a hint of spice, definitely recommend. We did the tower that had 5 full sized drinks for $75. The lobster max and cheese was good, I felt it was not cheesy enough, it tasted a bit too much of flour. The short ribs was super tender! Had a great taste but its not paired with any carbs (mashed potatoes, or fries. Etc) so after about an hour I was starving again lol service was great, it was a bit too dark where we got seated.

Chic New York style interior design. Good unique food. The food is not cheap, but it is worth it. If you want to come with someone (i.e., not alone), book early.

If you are in town for a show, or want to try something different, and have the money to spend. do try Dolly Varden. The restaurant and bar have a nice eclectic feel to it that makes you feel like you are stepping back in time. The staff is very friendly and great with their service. If you have a party of 6 or more, you may be given your own room, which makes you feel extra special. The drinks, which are a bit pricey, but it is NYC, are unique and tasty. Their menu is also the same, and you may want to try everything. Their pork belly baos can feed two (picture below) and their grilled Spanish octopus (also shown below) is very easy on the eyes but more of an okay entree for the price. The big hits are the truffle mac and cheese and charred half chicken. The only downside is that there is only one dessert- an apple tart with ice cream. That was disappointing because I was expected to be wowed by the range of desserts that should have. But other than the lack of desserts, I was very satisfied with my dining experience at Dolly Varden, and would come back again.

When I saw this place on Instagram it looked so good. When I got there I was seated in the lower area near the DJ and I was unaware there was a top level which I didnt get to see. The service was on time and staff was super friendly.❤️ We had the CAPTIN CRUNCH toast and that was delicious and sweet. We also ordered the chicken and waffles which I really did NOT like. The waffles where cheese and jalapeños waffles which I have never heard of. I couldnt order anything else because brunch was over and the kitchen was closing. Its a ok place. Not sure if I would return.

Cool spot. Had dinner and drinks here with a friend last night. They only had one type of oyster available which was disappointing but I ended having a dozen and a half to myself. Had a couple of mezcal margaritas as well. Highly recommend the truffle fries and asparagus. The customer service was great and the host called beforehand to be sure if we had any dietary restrictions prior. Would come again for brunch to try a different menu.
