The smallest, tightest club Ive ever been to, shoulder to shoulder squeeze, in a long basement venue. I thought I was in a 1940s speak easy. Poor accessibility. Table and seat towards the front with good sound. Interesting paintings and decor. Staff pleasant.
Hidden gem in Greenwich Village. Able to enjoy live jazz performance by reasonable price. Reservation recommended, first come first served seat.
Great music in an intimate setting! Unfortunately the manager was incredibly pushy in getting us to leave immediately after the show if not before - interrupting the final song of the performance for the check and clearing still full drink glasses. He then twice swung by saying you need to leave while one of their own musicians approached us to briefly chat for less than a minute. Rude! Would recommend another one of the many venues nearby for better, stress-free service where you dont feel theyre trying to kick you out the door before the show even ends.
This famous jazz club is a must-visit place with great performances. However, keep in mind that it runs on an extremely tight schedule. Not only do you have to wait past your booked time, but also they kick you out as soon as the performance is over. There is really no time to sit and enjoy your drink after the show. As for the server(s), all they did was to bring you an incomplete order and still has the audacity to ask for a tip BEFORE you get your order. They will ask if you want to close your order, and I recommend that you do right there because not only do you have no time to enjoy anything further, but also if you forget about it and leave when they rush you to get out, it will be closed at the end of the day with 20% tip.
My favorite jazz club in NYC — and that’s a high bar!I love how small and intimate this place is. It really feels like you are in the band, not in the audience. Acoustics are great and I like the fact that they don’t serve food — fewer distractions, clinking noises, and people chewing through the performance.Every evening I’ve been here the music has been fantastic. Yes, they do rush you to get out after the 1-hour mark, but this is what you have to do to survive as a tiny jazz club in NYC. I am totally fine with it.Will be back soon!
Mezzrow is a cozy gem for jazz lovers, offering incredible acoustics and top-notch performances in an intimate setting. The staff is welcoming, and the atmosphere feels authentically classic. A perfect spot to enjoy live jazz with a great drink—highly recommend!
One of the famous jazz clubs in the city. Operated by the same owner of Smalls.Loved it, underground intimate and cozy vibes with super talented band. Friendly staff and excellent serviceThey have live stream tickets or you can watch recorded one(s) free on YouTube.Their calendar is full of events and performances.Get tickets online.
I’ve been in both places - Mezzrow and Smalls years ago and I remembered it as a great Jazz experience. I couldn’t wait to revisit, but what I experienced tonight broke my heart. Now it’s a business in s costume of scam. Both places charged us way more money than they should, which we realised after leaving (Both of our cards had two payments, first one for entrance and one drink, second ? who knows…) The whole idea with forcing ‘another drink for another band’ is just tasteless. I loved to support places like this, now I don’t think I will ever be back. However if you are into Jazz Music - try Ornithology :) They are like Smalls and Mezzrow used to be.
Really enjoyed catching Melissa Stylianou Quartet last night at Mezzrow. Great musicians, awesome classic cocktails, and everyone is super nice and accommodating. It’s a very small intimate place, so make sure to get there early to snag a seat, and advanced tickets are advised. That said, the ambiance is chic yet very welcoming. My only one commentary is less reflective of Mezzrow and more reflective of the decency of humanity. You’re told when you sit down that the front area is reserved for listening not yapping. If you’re looking for the kind of performance you can talk through, this isn’t it. You WILL annoy people and you WILL get addressed and reprimanded by the staff (for good reason). So please, be a thoughtful person and respect the music and those around you, and you’ll have a great time!
If you want to be up close and personal with jazz mucisians, Mezzrow is the place to be. This also means that youll be a lot closer to the other customers than usual, so youll need to be prepared for that. Its small, cozy, and intimate. Service is quick, and drink prices are pretty standard. Nothing exorbitant. Get your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment if its full. I like that its tucked away in the basement and dicreet with not much signage, which gives it a very unique vibe. Its definitely worth a visit if youre jazz bar hopping in the neighborhood.
Came here for an occasional Jazz experience with extraordinary musicians. Good prices and always good musicians always. The drinks were delicious and service was professional.
Nice music, well organized and a smooth environment. Happy to visit! No food avaiable, only few appetizers.
Beautiful place for jazz lovers in the city. Very cozy enviornment. Not to mention, top-notched jazz music being performed. Bourbon on the rocks was also amazing to be paired with this decent vibe.
Lovely atmosphere, with great music. The seating is comfortable but snug, but everywhere in the lounge the music sounds great. You’re required to get one drink with the show, and the cocktail I got was meh for the price.
Lovely small jazz club. The ambiance is lively but intimate. As a heads up they only have a drink menu and snacks, so if you’d like to incorporate visiting here as an evening event you should plan to have dinner elsewhere. But it’s worth the music and the drinks are reasonable!
The show was amazing. We were so close we could have reached out and touched the band. The drinks were great and the service was even better! I cant wait to come back!
We did not have tickets but we got lucky and got good seats. The place is very small, but we didn’t mind about that. It made the atmosphere more interesting. As a musician I was there for the music and it was an amazing experience. Drinks are very expensive but I would assume it’s every jazz club bar in nyc.
Very cool jazz venue, so glad I got to witness this performance! I went on Thurs Dec 29. We couldnt get too close to the performance area, but the music is amplified throughout the venue and we could still get a glimpse of the pianist and bassist. Youll need reservations if you want a seat. The bar made great cocktails too, if that helps you to know :) but you go for the music and to overhear amazing musicians exchanging perspectives and stories. Cant wait to go back!
We had an amazing experience there! The place is small, which gives a very nice and authentic vide to the place. However, for that reason be sure to reserve your spots in advance. You could do it on the internet, this is how we reserved, and we were seated just near the musicians :).Strongly recommend!!
Went for a jazz trio event. I purchased tickets online in advance. Before and during the show, you can order drinks. The drinks were good, pricing is a little high. The atmosphere is well decorated but flat due to low ceiling. I like to believe it helps for the sound. There are not many places to sit, so reservation is crucial for specific events.
I understand that walk in seats are in the back and you can’t see but it’s hard to listen while everyone around is talking and nobody from stuff is reacting. Why would you pay 25$ just to come in and not listen? Go to another bar.
Ive been here the 31st of December with my wife,in the evening. We had an amazing experience, the jazz band was super and the place and people so nice!
5 Stars Jazz Club!. Since it originally opened, I have been here quite a bit; I should definitely come here more frequently! The room with the Village Vanguard, Zinc and Smalls, is, without a doubt, my favorite. Its cozy and intimate, and it hosts fantastic concerts every night featuring legendary jazz artists like Pasquale Grasso, Geoffrey Keezer, Peter Bernstein, and John Patittuci!
I chose to visit Mezzrow after deliberating over several places and we cannot stress how amazing of an experience it is to come here. It’s so good that I’m writing this review nine minutes before the next set. We chose the 7:30 show with Benny Green and couldn’t help but stay for the following set at 9:00. The venue itself is superb with excellent and friendly customer service. Many thanks to the worker who arranged the seating. The view was surreal. We will surely be coming back for more, the next time we’re in town.
Great musicians, sweet small club but the worst service Ive ever had in my live (regarding the guy who seated us!) !I asked him twice before the show if he could give me another seat or turn off/ reduce the air condition because in the small room there were about 5 air conditions on 16°C (outside temperature was 20°C). He said twice he would take care of it, but he didnt do anything!Had to leave early because I was freezing, probably catched a cold from this.Make sure to bring your down jacket then you can enjoy really nice music.
Cozy jazz club, good drinks, a couple of snack options, all you need to enjoy the music here
Someone give the MC a raise please. He’s courteous and accommodating. No matter the artists, the MC is always on point the best. 2 elderly ladies traveling from Milano, Italy had walked all day from Brooklyn to the village and were first ones in line. However upon inspecting their tickets the MC realized they were booked for previous evening and had missed the show date. However he accommodated them at the bar and this shows to tourists that New Yorker maybe cut and dry, yet most fair and kind at heart.
Hard to find if you book through the Smallz Jazz Club website! The music was fantastic, and the staff was super friendly... but the experience felt a bit like a tourist production line.
Fantastic Jazz Night Club! Great seating up close and intimate with the band. Amazing service and entertainment. We are very happy we came.
Such a cool, authentic jazz club in NYCs West Village. We went to see the amazing Samara Joy and it was a spectacular evening. The club is very small and intimate. Its not expensive ($35 pp) and they also only have a one drink minimum. I will definitely be back. They currently require proof of vaccine but as of October 2021, mask are not required although about a third of the people (generally older) were wearing them.
I planned to see a comedy show, but it was sold out. Luckily, I found this jazz bar on my list, and it was close by, so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and got a discounted ticket, even though there was no guarantee of a front-row seat. They still managed to find me a spot! This was my first time experiencing live jazz, and it was an absolute blast!
Great vibe, great music. The cocktails are well made and the service stays low key to not conflict with the music. A place we enjoy coming back to.
Good and affordable entertainment in NYC. Must make reservations and get there early to get a good spot on the tiny and narrow basement. You’ll feel like you’re in a Prohibition era speakeasy. Please note that after the show you must leave the table make way for the next wave of guests if there’s another presentation.
I visited Mezzrow for the first time live. David Vireilles piano, Ben Street bass and Eric McPherson on drums: what a trio !Great stuff, ultra tight location, very good table service. Inexpensive tickets, world-class artitsts
Great, intimate jazz club in the West Village showcasing a great rotation of jazz bands playing until late at night. The staff is very friendly.
Great music. Saw Dave Kikoski and Rick Rosato as a walk in. Make sure you get there early if you don’t have a reservation. Lots of good community and conversations to be had. Just don’t talk during the show, there are some noisy disrespectful people but if you’re sitting in the front it shouldn’t be an issue. Prices range from 25 up for a show typically. And for some of the best jazz in the world, this couldn’t be more reasonable.
Very relaxing, have some brandy 🥃 and just chill. I enjoyed every time, and Lucy on Tuesday night was excellent! A perfect date spot if you want to impress someone such a romantic place as well hehe tho most importantly just have a good time listening to Jazz ❤️🎼🎹🎷
Cool music, but unless you are in the front, most of the people are stuck in the back of a long corridor. You don’t see anything and you don’t feel part of the show. Regardless you pay $25 like the ones in the front.
Attended my husbands gig there.very well tuned piano sounded great and the stuff is good! audience can listen to the jazz music without loud noise from people who are chatting.
Great spot. Enjoyed some lovely jazz tonight. Talented musicians. Wonderful venue. Intimate setting. Well run. Seamless experience. It’s your OG NYC jazz type of place. Intimate environment to enjoy special talent.
First jazz bar experience in NY and it transported me to another time and place. It was an out of this world, goosebumps-giving musical experience that will never be forgotten. The sax player, bass, pianist and vocalist were simply divine.
Fun, cozy, intimate setting for great jazz music. For menu seekers: The drinks list is very good, and reasonably-priced, but if youre looking for dinner, eat somewhere else first. There are a few snacks available, but no food menu as such. There is a one-drink required minimum, which can be juices or water or soda. Its a great place to hear music up close, but get there early (30-45 min.) to get a close table!
Lovely sister jazz club to Smalls. You head down the stairs and arrive at a lovely speakeasy-esque bar with odes to previous jazz musicians who have played here all around you. Great musicians and great ambiance. Its a wonderful place to get lost in the jazzLove to the bartenders! They are always busy but make such good drinks! It is a $20 entry fee but usually $10 for students and musicians. Best jazz club in the village!
Our first Jazz bar experience in NY!! Although we didnt a reserve a table beforehand, fortunately we managed to sit in the alley as we reached early. The ambience was soothing in terms of lighting and music. But was full on Saturday evening, each show was for 1.5hrs, table was $50 for two people, drinks were good but a bit pricey. If you could reserve a table then you will sit infront of the performers watching them live, otherwise soothe yourself just listening while enjoying your drinks. The bar was at the basement, had a steep staircase to go down and a narrow passage to go to main area where the musicians were performing. I liked the piano and cello combination more over the drums. Overall good experience. Only drawback is that the passage was too narrow to accommodate sitting arrangements on both sides while the servers running table to table with drinks!!
Great little spot for jazz music. Reserve on advance for good seats. Drinks are mis so just get a beer
This review is overdue, but I had a nigh on spiritual experience in this cozy little basement in the West Village a while back and if I help even one other person feel the same, it will have been worth writing.Like many, I find myself when I get lost in New York. After plans for a long weekend in the city with friends fell through, my wife and I decided to wing it. We found Mezzrow completely by chance, only later learning that it’s been one of NYC’s more significant jazz spots since the 90s and is even featured in the Louis Vuitton City Guide. It turned out to be a magical night.Down an easy-to-miss stair just around the corner from the famous Stonewall Inn, a Steinway lives out its golden years in an intimate back corner of a narrow brick-lined bar. The ceilings are low, the drinks are strong, and given the number of people there that night the bathroom was surprisingly clean (a major plus in my book). We bought our tickets on the train over and by good fortune we arrived just as the previous set was getting out. The man at the door seated us right up by the performers, one of whom — the drummer — I accidentally bumped on my way to our seats (my apologies if you ever read this!).We sat and sipped as we waited for the ten o’clock set to start, an old fashioned and a French 75 — old habits, new places. I had just started to wonder how they got the piano down the steep and narrow stairs when Cameron Campbell took his seat.Accompanied by his brother and a close friend, the trio lit up the stage as the entire room felt their connection from the first note. The way they looked at each other was love, and together they created a performance together greater than any could have as a solo act. It’s a feeling you have to be in the room for, you can’t hear on a studio album or even a live recording. I’ve been to a lot of basements, seen a lot of jazz, but rarely has it been quite so electric. This was the kind of performance that reminds you that jazz is made to be lived in.A lot of people have confused notions about the genre. Outside of certain circles, it has a reputation for being pretentious or boring, confusing, and, most regrettably, elevator music. It’s possibly the least monolithic genre, but too many hear Kenny G once at the mall and decide that’s it.Most have not experienced a live performance. If I could, I would bring them all to Mezzrow.Jazz is a genre best experienced firsthand. When you see it played live you’re drawn in, captivated by the energy of it, grounded in its construction among the players and enlightened to how each piece of the ensemble contributes.Other artists have variations in their live performances — imperfections normally cut out in the studio. We go to concerts and love them for this reason. It’s real. But ultimately, the studio album is the peak experience in terms of sound quality and realizing the artists’ creative vision. Not jazz. Jazz is music of the moment.Louis Armstong said it’s “music that’s never played the same way once” because though it’s written and rehearsed over and again in advance, the version the audience sees is often created on the spot. Improvisation leads every performance. From the song to the genre, jazz is alive, changing, fluid. And that’s why I love Mezzrow — because more than any venue I’ve been to, it embodies all of these qualities too. The spirit of jazz is alive there, and I can’t wait to go back.So I invite you to give it a shot — the lived experience is so much different than an album, or god forbid an elevator.
Buy tickets in advance. The music is great. But Do Not go as a walk in, at least on Saturday like I did. The place is small and narrow. The area for walk-ins is far away from the musicians, but even that is not the biggest disadvantage. The people in the walk-in area who are standing around are talking loudly and could care less about the wonderful music being played or about other people who came to listen to jazz. The management should mange better.
Really good music and atmosphere
I’ve been following Tal Cohen for a while and it was great to see him at this club I traveled just for him. Amazing pianist
Last night -- Lawrence Fields, Peter Slavov, and Mark Whitfield, Jr. delivered some much needed magic to a crowd that was desperate for some post-COVID-lockdown inspiration. They did not disappoint: a fantastically tight trio, yet each individual brought something unique to the mix. Transcendental stuff!
That place was awesome. Nice music, nice service, good prices. It was like being in a Woody Allen’s movie!!! I recomend visit that place!!!
We came on a rainy day. We were very lucky to get a spot. The place was jammed, but they made space for us. The bartender was very nice and made a delicious cocktail. The music was very elegant and special. It is not too loud and people respected the talents by whispering. I recommend to reserve a table to have a safe spot. But standing was cool.
I go to their other location smalls very often and haven’t been here in a while. We got tickets online for 40 dollars which is what smalls charges as well. But I have never been told to leave after 45 mins of music. We got 9pm tickets and the show started at 9:15 ended at 10. We were told to leave which most clubs will give you 1.5 hrs. When I asked they said that there shows are always 1 hr and that the music started at 9. But I sent a message to my friend who was using the restroom when the music started so I know It was 9:15. Not a problem but 40 dollars for 45 mins music and I wasn’t able to finish my drink because by the time it came it was 9:30. Honestly very disappointing ! I do think smalls their other location is better for seating purposes and service. They’re live jamSessions are amazing ! But not this location
Excellent music, quaint place cozy and easy to find. Live jazz band playing amazing tunes many of which are original. Would definitely recommend this to anyone.
Small and extremely personable venue. Great drinks, online reservations available, multiple sets a night with different performers #visitnyc #lowerwestside #supportlocalbusiness
Real deal jazz club in a cozy and fun place. Service is fantastic and the musicians are the best of the best. A place to visit on the regular.
Im not a jazz expert but I do enjoy a live music venue from time to time, and Mezzrow did not disappoint! Its a small jazz club in and around the West Village/Union Square area which provides some fantastic cocktails, small bites, and, of course, jazz! The performance itself lasted for about an hour and towards the end the waitress will ask if you want to stay for the next show. Im not sure if that happens often but its not to know that option exists in case you want to stay longer.Pro-tip: Make reservations in advance! It does get packed.
Military rules. If you want to grab a casual drink chit chat with your friends while listening to nice live music better avoid. Youll be fit/standing/sitting like sardines. Music makes it all worth though...
I do not enjoy being squeezed tightly into a tiny table, shoulder to shoulder , and with two strangers sitting 18 inches across from me at the same tiny table. As much as I like the music, I cant take that subway at rush-hour density and will avoid it in the future. It is why I enjoy Zinc Bar or Dizzys, for a less crowded jazz experience, sitting at a real table.Mezrows got a real attitude, like theyre the only club in town.(Their owner has some anger and esteem issues, as well)
We visited based on the recommendation of a friend, at the experience was excellent.Very cosy venue, great staff who organises things very well and politely. Generous drinks. And, of course, amazing music. Would definitely go again
Food is basic snacks. Entrance fee $25 walk-in. $40 book overhead. Space is long and narrow. So if no reservation, for sure you cannot see the players. Music and vibes are good.
Amazing, authentic and just great place to experience real jazz.
Service is great, the music and the atmosphere is amazing. Perfect for jazz lovers.
Very nice place to enjoy some drink and listen to live jazz music. You should make rezervation otherwise you should wait a long time.
Nice place with old school jazz. Must make a reservation online to get in because it has only a few seats.
Very cozy atmosphere, no wait, was a fun experience
There is no food. There is no service. There is no atmosphere. And still its a five-star jazz club.
This is a fantastic little spot and the bar staff are very friendly. The music is great as is the sound. Its small and narrow and carries throughout the venue. Youll definitely want to book though. Whilst walk ins are encouraged, youll likely spend $20 to sit right at the back of the venue with (often) little or no view of the band. Reservations get seated near the front, so do that!
Cozy & intimate place to catch some great music. great date night spot too! just make sure not to talk during the sets ☺️
My favourite jazz place in New York. Always busy, get tickets if you can, otherwise you could be stuck at the back standing up. Great table service from our favourite Melbournian server!
One of my favorite venues in NYC 🫶🏻 if you like/love jazz, this is the place to go. A small and intimate venue with the most beautiful cocktails and always top class music 🎶
Great jazz bar with internationally known performers. Intimate setting. Friendly, prompt service. Be sure and get there early, this is a popular spot.
I went on a Tuesday night to see the 10:30pm set and it was such an incredible experience. The music was fantastic, the drinks were good and the ambiance was beautiful. I’ve been to a few jazz bars in NY, but this is by far my favourite!
Music was good unfortunately staff was pretentious and rude
They take like half an hour in bring drinks and when I ask for them the guy was so rude
Music was awesome. The staff needs to be cooler especially the pretentious guy who seats you. The guy serving us forgot our drinks.
Every employee was so nice and perfect music. This place is so good.
Beautiful jazz and great atmosphere: chilling, romantic and fun. The place is a bit hard to find so make sure you budget extra time the first time you visit. Costs: 20 for music room and 10 for bar, which isnt too bad if you sit towards the end of bar almost in the music room area. Beer costs 5 and cocktail 13, all reasonably priced. Im definitely going back for a weekend music treat.
Little, intime and cool place to ear good jazz music in the city, good beer I’m drinking just now!I’ll back soon!
Great music, very intimate setting... had a blast! The staff were friendly and you hardly noticed as they moved between tables serving drinks, etc. I recommend this to anyone I know going to NYC.Make sure you have a reservation on weekends, though. I did not realize we needed one, and had to leave eventually to accommodate their reservation list (totally my fault, not the owners) for the second / late set.
I go to jazz clubs for the music. In this case, it certainly doesnt disappoint. What they did with the basement, in terms of design, is cool. I would say, it is super narrow, so much that I could see claustrophobic suffers having a problem.
Wow! What a great place. Beautiful cozy little jazz club. With talented performers! Waiters very attentive and a well-made cocktail. Would highly recommend. I will certainly be returning!
The Mezzrow jazz club is a much more intimate atmosphere than its sister club Smalls. I arrived in the middle of a set, so I sat in the entrance hall rather than the main room. However, even though I was sitting at a table near the door, I felt more relaxed and not crammed into one space. The sound of the music, the jazzy bass and vocals, were heard clearly and enjoyed. Drinks ranges $5-$20, cover charge is $20 unless you already paid at smalls and have your ticket to get in. Its $25 cover charge to sit in the main area.
Mezzrow is a hip old school jazz spot in the west village. If you want to get the good seats book online and get there early. If you want to save some money you can walk up and take your chances in the back. The music is always on point and they do 3 sessions a night. Very cool!!
For both here and Smalls across the street being operated by the same owners, this place is terrible. The act tonight with Davis Whitefield sounded more like a long warm up session. There was little to no cohesion between the players, more often than not each player was doing a solo rather than playing together. If you can go somewhere else for jazz I definitely would before you wind up here. I highly recommend Smalls.
One of the great jazz listening rooms. Intimate, with an almost religious atmosphere of love and devotion for the music. Great drinks and service too!
Always great—Although lots of chatter tonight amongst some of the patrons. Either come and be respectful or show yourselves out, of course it’s okay to talk; but if you’re speaking the whole time what are you doing?
Great spot for Jazz! We made a reservation and had great seating the performers put on a spectacular show that filled the room with great energy and staff was on point for drinks and food even while performance was going on.Also I had a wonderful email experience over a slight issue with S.W.Great spot for the holidays.
Absolutely fantastic jazz bar. I have been a couple times and it has been magical. Its very small and intimate with daily shows usually two acts and two sessions each. One drink minimum per session. This is a sister club of legendary Smalls across the street. Overall one of the best jazz clubs I have been to and will repeat for sure
Came here once a few of years ago before the pandemic and was more than happy to come back last Friday. Man, I cant express how much I enjoy this venue. Everyone, from the host to the wait staff is awesome. I came here for a couple of performances that night and the experience was just everything I could hope for plus more. I treated my girlfriend to this place for her birthday and she also fell in love with this place. Needless to say, well be back!
I liked the warm lighting, the brick walls, and the art. A ticket for Smalls Jazz Club also gets you into this place, and vice versa. This place is definitely less crowded than Smalls, with room to breathe if youre looking for a relaxing place to have a drink with good music.
A very cozy little jazz cellar with a fantastic program. Here the music is in the foreground. Very interesting are the combination tickets with the jazz club Smalls just a few hundred meters away. You can enjoy two sets at two locations for one ticket at one evening. I like that!
Candle-lit jazz listening room. Prepare to pay up to listen to some great live music. Keep your mouth shut as the musicians perform. Not a great place to invite that very loud friend.
Ill be the first to admit Im not a massive fan of Jazz in general; but seeing musicians at a place like this and Smalls is always an awesome time. Cant recommend them highly enough.
A small venue with fine music. If you like jazz but don’t subscribe to Smalls’ video library of live shows in their two clubs, you really should.
Small intermittent club with nice atmosphere. Went on a Wednesday night. $20 dollar cover which I reserved in advanced. Sitted at small tables, which they. Sit 4 to a table 2 on inside and 2 in outside. Drinks and wine range from $12 to $15., also wine by the bottle. The set was a 3 piece combo, guitar, bass and piano. Very enjoyable. I believe your ticket can also get you into sister club across the street. Would recommend
I had one of my “Bucket List” experience. Sitting close to the talented musicians and listening the up and downs of profound jazz music.Listening honey voiced Naama Gheber and sipping some traditional cocktails was my chance yesterday.35 USD for each session. One session takes like an hour. One kind of a unique experience to feel the smooth and silent vibes of NYC.
Seats are a bit uncomfortable. Except that, atmosphere, performance, and everything is great
Very cozy and great music!
Arrive early - before doors open - and buy your tickets in advance if you want a hope of getting a seat or table.
Incredible jazz venue! I always go to a set whenever I am in NYC.
Good music. 2 stars for server who charged my friend and I more for a drink than the price on the menu and was very mean about it when I brought it up. Didn’t fix the price and shamed me for caring about the difference. I just thought it was a mistake.
Im a long time Jazz fan, and over the past five decades (God, Im that old!) I have spent many nights and many dollars listening to jazz all over NYC. I go wherever the music appeals to me, and dont really care what it costs. Mezzrow is my favorite place, not only for the music, but for the vibe and the people who work there and run the club. And, for those who this does matter to: Mezzrow is a great deal -- you get to hear world class music, up front, for $20 a set -- and you get to go to Smalls for free!!While some people see the crowds at Mezzrow as a problem, I find it awesome to be sitting in a club full of knowledgeable listeners and jazz musicians whove come to hear their colleagues.Bravo Mezzrow!!!
Had an amazing time at Mezzrow last night for their jazz night! The music was top-notch, especially from Gabrielle Stravelli, Michael Kanan, and Pat OLeary. The drinks were also good. The only downside was the cramped and stuffy atmosphere - it was so hot and hard to breathe in there. Props to the performers though! 🎷🎶🍸
Great little jazz venue. Small and cozy. I’m glad there are still places to see music like this around since sometimes it seems venues are closing left and right.Interesting cocktails and nice wine list.
I was very skeptical seeing that there’s a $40 cover, but this was such a great experience. It really felt like I was in a Woody Allen movie. The show was only about an hour long, which was the only negative, but they played for the entire hour. Would definitely recommend for anyone with friends visiting or a special date night
Amazing Live Jazz music!
Such a great experience with seriously talented musicians! During a trip to NY with my in-laws we wanted an authentic jazz experience and Mezzrow really delivered. Jeb Patton played with David Wong on bass and Billy Drummond on the drums. They played in a way that was fast yet completely in sync and it was amazing to hear. While Im newer to jazz they were some of the most talented musicians Ive had the pleasure of seeing live. Ive been listening Jeb Pattons music ever since and was excited to see David Wong on many of his albums!
The jazz is great but the cocktails are awful. They use nothing but cheap syrups to make there drinks. One of the worst old fashions I’ve had in ny and by far the worst Negroni I’ve ever had
Very crowded. Ordered a $13 cocktail, charged 22$———Update: was giving three stars, now one star.Reason: owner responded to my gentle fact statement with hateful speech and harassment of banning customers from social media.I checked the menu again and I admit my mistake of stating $13 for $15 for the cocktail price. My apologies. But I found anotherinteresting fact! You started responding while you didn’t even know you don’t have a $13 cocktail. Does this place really have a manager? Or just clueless avengers? The experience is already so horrible online after reading your comments to other polite customers. Who dare to risk their lives to speak to your manager outside of a courthouse! It’s my fault to overpay you to harass me. Looks like harassment is part of the standard experience you’re offering here. You redefined Jazz!👍
Small intimate jazzy joint
Great place for some good jazz and a vintage feel
The entertainment is first-rate, and the service is great. The only thing is, its a long, narrow space, so queue up early. If youre not one of the first twenty people in the club, youre sightline wont be very good.
I was told by a fellow musician to check out Mezzrow, and it certainly lives up to the hype its receiving in the music world. The intimate space is suited well for solo piano and duets or trios, with about 10-12 tables and then a bar running along the side. Its not amplified, and it doesnt need to be, allowing for a true sound from the 1920s Steinway.Pro Tip: My girlfriend and I showed up for the early piano set from 6:30-8 which has no cover before heading to dinner. Great music and drinks for $20 or so in a acoustically satisfying space is always a win-win. Definitely will be back!
To the manager, Hannah and server make a great team so hold onto these guys. Very busy for an August eve so they held the fort brilliantly. Nellie Mckay was also very entertaining, not classical jazz but a nice quirky change.
Cool cozy intimate place, perfect for jazz.
Music seems great but the entry fee is $25 and there is a minimum required order of a drink. I couldnt easily find these requirements online and was only told about them once at a table
I really dig this place. They are going for the old jazz bar vibe and they hit the nail on the head. Great music really a great time overall. It was busy so we got cramed into a corner. But that is what happened when a place is that good.
Cozy basement rendezvous for great jazz.
The best after hours jazz club in NYC. On busy weekends you need to get here early to get a good seat. If you can get a seat in the front section you will not be disappointed. Just try to get here a half hour before the show to get a good seat. If you show up at the last minute you may get stuck in the back.
They bamboozle you into thinking that the preposterous $25 fee per person (next to the toilet) includes a drink. After leaving I said my piece and he made it seem it all comes down to the wording. I know their intention. They are trashDont go there
This is NYC jazz. The seating arrangements suck like most NY establishments but it doesnt matter if you are a jazz head. The artists who are invited here are usually top notch. The free admission to Smalls afterwards makes the price of admission a steal.
One of the best in NYC. Also, be on the lookout for when Johnny ONeal performs here! You wont regret seeing his show.
Such an amazing place! Everyday a different event, artist! Definitely a must visit if you love jazz! If you do this is going to become a weekly visit for you 😉
Mezzrow’s jazz club in the heart of Greenwich Village is the place for music lovers to relax listening to their favorite artists perform in an intimate setting. You can enjoy 😉 the West Village atmosphere in this outstanding club owned by the legendary Smalls Jazz Club. Listen to my brother, a renowned jazz musician play the grand piano performing his original songs while relaxing to the music of his compatriots. Fabulous venue with superlative wine 🍷 list, Mezzrow’s is a great Jazz venue to listen to the best musicians while meeting other music lovers 💕 in New York City. Definitely recommended as the cool 😎 place for music lovers.
10/10 would go again! The old fashioned and mule were great. The music was buzzing and everyone was focused on the players. Make sure you get there early
A great and classic Village venue. Its tight quarters, but part of the charm. Make reservations if you want a table. And if youre there for the music, you want a table as they sit closest to the musicians.
My attendance of the Arturo Sandoval performance tonight was without a doubt the worst expenditure of entertainment dollars ever. If asked to pick him out from a lineup of five, I would have been unable to pick out Mr. Sandoval. My view of the entire evening was of the backs of the people in front of me. Sandwiched between four other people, three of whom also lacked a view, the evening was not only unenjoyable, it had no redeeming features. When one of the other patrons remarked on the way out that it should have been enough to just hear the music i could not have agreed in any way. The Blue Note has sandwiched in entirely too many people in a limited space in an attempt to make money at the expense of the enjoyment of the patrons.Following the performance, my conversation with the manager, Mack Salmon-McFarlane, offered me no resolution, only a claim that he has nothing to do with management decision to cram as many people into the space as possible. Our reservation, made through the Blue Note website, indicated that making a reservation with American Express Platinum would guarantee an acceptable seat; this was definitely not the case.Save your money. Look for a performance venue such as Dizzys Club Coca Cola where the attendees have the actual chance to see and hear a performance. As for me, The Blue Note will not be getting a second chance to take my entertainment dollar. Given the opportunity, I would strongly request a refund!
Fantastic music, but people talked so loudly we could not hear it - hence, unable to feel it. Talked to the staff three times, did nothing. Left before the end of the set. More people did the same. Shame, musicians were brilliant and would produce a superb show.
Great place to hear jazz in a small intimate setting. Love the whole vibe! Terrific ambiance and staff was extremely welcoming.
Amazing jazz club featuring some of the very best jazz musicians in the world. The drinks and service was great too.
Club is nice, small and cozy. Perfect atmosphere here. Service is nice but i cant give full stars as cocktails are really cheap made. After first drink i went with bottled beer instead. Also I dont like that during the performance they kill the vibe with the bill. I think they are doing it on purpose . As they automatically add 18% tip and after that they ask for another tip, so it is easy to overpay like 30 % while enjoying the music. Service understood everything and when I asked if tip is included suddenly he wasnt able to hear and played stupid. But the music and musicians were great .
Fantastic Classic and Cozy Jazz Bar in the Village. Stay for the late sets when the “cool” kids hang!
Just a sublime experience! Very nice atmosphere and the two gentlemen performing tonight, Harvey Diamond and Cameron Brown, played beautifully. Come here on a full stomach and enjoy your favorite drink.
Great jazz club, maybe the best in the area; we go there every time we can; great music, great location; make a reservation in advance if you really want to enjoy the show and the evening.
We had a wonderful time. Hadnt been in years & it was still as pleasant as it was then.
Mezzrow is the sister club of Smalls Jazz Club, across 7th Ave. It has its own persona as regards the music and atmosphere that is both cozy and intimate. The music usually consists of duos and trios featuring pianists and vocalists in drummerless combinations. The acoustics are excellent and the experience is always top notch in this anachronism that can only exist in a city like NYC.
Pretty nice place, it feels like real NYC in 1900s. Underground place with a live jazz music performance. setting is very calm, staff was very friendly and welcoming. 👍👍
Owner seems to be a narcissist who verbally attacks customers that give a negative review, even if the reviewer is being polite and giving constructive criticism. For that reason alone I wouldn’t give business to this man.
Great show! Intimate setting and great atmosphere. Staff is wonderful and really knows the menu and how to recommend drinks according to your likes/ dislikes
This club is very narrow place. But I liked this. It makes us enjoy jazz live music near the stage. And there is no food in this club. Only drink and some cheeses and nuts.
You can only get to listen and see the musicians if you are seated at the front tables. If you don’t make it there, then you’ll be closer to the bar and to the back where not everyone is listening to the music, so you’ll hear noises of chattering and drink-mixing. The venue is great and worth visiting though. Music is superb.
Had a great experience here on a Sunday night. excellent music, easy vibe! we ventured in after learning our ticket from Smalls, was valid here! will return!
Absolutely amazing experience. Lisa, Jeff, and the rest of the staff offer ⭐ STELLAR ⭐ service and a welcoming atmosphere. If youre in Greenwich, definitely go visit!
The kind of jazz club that makes you cozy up to your date at a table that fits a few essentials (drink, drink, cheese plate) as you listen to the intricacies of instruments collaborating together, titillating your senses.
Music is wonderful..the olives are terrible!!! sooo awful, after each one, i regretted putting them in my mouth but i was hungry. please get better olives, smallz!!!
Walk in seats are not comfortable, so need to reserve seats in front
Another great address in New York. This little Jazz club will require that you book your table before coming. Once this little challenge passed, you will be able to enjoy a very qualitative Jazz concert. You will have a close view to the music band.About the drinks, they have a classic menu that will give you the opportunity to drink a Manhattan at Mannhattan! Cheers!
Scammers. They even give you tickets for 2 drinks and they end up charging you for them. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!
One of the best sounding rooms. Pasquale Grasso on Monday nights is an absolute treat. Many other fantastic shows here. Make sure you sit in front
What an amazing place to listen to jazz. I would return in a heartbeat the next time I am in lovely NYC.
Love Smalls. Have yet to frequent the New club, Mezzros. I hope they book the great guitarist Ed Cherry there one fine day. Thats bring me both nights or more.
Intimate little jazz club with strong drinks. We enjoyed our visit!
Great spot for some late night jazz and is the sister bar to Smalls. Im told the musicians can be hit or miss but thats not too surprising. When we visited the musicians were fantastic.Note that this is not a spot for conversation, they ask everyone to remain quiet and keep talking to a minimum while the musicians are playing their set. Pretty easy to just drop in!
My favorite venue in NYC. The trick is to buy tickets online and get there 20 mins early (more on a Fri / Sat) to get the seats right up front. Nitai Hershowitz was outstanding here recently
Absolutely lovely and so cozy for show and a drink. The staff were incredibly helpful and kind and provided such quick service for drinks.
Love this quaint unique music venue.
The vine is like picker’s vinager, horrible, disgusting and so spencive. The service owfull. I felt like a cow in a a farmer. We can’t enjoy. So sad for this experience.
Love the atmosphere and the abundance of different musicians here
One of the best intimate jazz clubs in the city.
Sister club to Smalls, just across the street and generally less crowded. Was able to walk in on a busy Friday evening (after encountering a line down the block at Smalls). Perfectly cozy jazz cave with excellent sets. Will return here again!
Great hole in the wall jazz spot with great music, drinks, and ambiance. Lovely.
This is a tiny (55 people) club for small group (
A lot of jazz piano solos here. I like it. Free admission (no cover) in 5-7pm Sun. They use to have that on Fri. So sad they move to Sun...
Great, tiny jazz club. Arrive at least 30 minutes before showtime if you want a good seat
I had a bad experience in this club! They charged me three extra times the entrance fee in my debit card and never tried to help solve the issue!
Very intimate club, great acoustics, seating a little cramped but it’s part of the intimacy deal, excellent service. Music top notch.
The place is cozy, but the service is horrible. especially from the short lady bartender. I definitely wont come back
Mezzrow is the bomb!!!! Amazing musicians awesome super friendly staff.
Last night Joanne Brackeen, jazz pianist, and bassist, Lonnie Plaxico transported the packed house with their musical dialogue and instrumental magic. The lively, even brilliant glissandos and extraordinary finger work of both musicians elevated the tunes to new heights. Joanne continues to delight and impress, agelessly.
Wonderfully cozy and relaxing jazz evening at Mezzrow. We went to a 7:30 show and each had a cocktail while enjoying the music, ambience, and stories shared by the musicians. The seating towards the stage is first come first serve, with the front room being the quiet area during the performance (so low conversations only if at all) while the back room was where you could freely enjoy the music and chat with friends. The acoustics were great, there’s such a sense of family between the musicians and the staff, and just a great energy. Would definitely come back for more shows.
Cool spot. Kind of got pushed up against the wall, because there was limited seating. Music was great. Drinks were nice enough
Cozy and iconic jazz spot for intimate concerts of most versatile musicians around !
A wonderful jazz bar! But why are they still using stirs for the drinks. That seems a bit outdated.
Love you love your Youtube lives
Small, cozy venue with good drinks. The host was hilarious and not afraid to tell ppl to shut it during a show.
Solid jazz spot - try to make a reservation ahead of time!
If your a jazz fan & love live intimate music this spot is a little piece of heaven!
Cosy and intimate jazz club in the west village. Does not serve food except some light snack and cheese, but good choice of beverages. Highly recommend reservations during the weekend as the 30 and something places available tend to finish quickly. Instruments here are played with no amplification so an opportunity to listen pure music.
Very cozy jazz bar. The drinks were good but the werent enough snacks to offer.
Coming back to my old fave after 3 years. Wonderful performance by DAVE KIKOSKI & FRANK LACY. Great ambiance and acoustics, too.
Very entertaining piano music. I like their ‘no talking’ environment-very enjoyable!
A great place to sit and enjoy an evening of Jazz. Cosy venue with good artists, draws a diverse, respectful, crowd.
It6s not Smalls, but not a bad alternative. The staff is friendly. Good Jazz. Definitely worth a visit.
Nice intimate place to listen to jazz. Service and drinks were great, staff were very friendly.
Great evening with friends and great jazz. Mezzrow has amazing acoustics and because it is a listening venue a great place to enjoy!
Nice small place, good vibe. It can get too crowded, though, and a bit too loud, so we couldn’t enjoy the music as much. Good cocktails, but the lady behind the bar was clearly overwhelmed, and it takes quite long to get your drinks.
Guys, Id like to contact you. You double charged me on August, Saturday 20, Im not sure if you charged me for the tickets, which were already paid since they were booked online or twice for the drinks. How can I contact you?
If I could revisit my first night here I would, beautiful ambience, amazing music, great drinks
Theres a reason why this is a classic institution here. No frill jazz. Good vibes, especially on the weekdays when theres a smaller crowd
Nice vibe, and cozy place to here intimate jazz.Get a bit too quite during the performance, understandably. So, if you are thinking of chatting do it between the sets, sets are an hour each with 30 minutes break each. There are about 3 sets each night and one drink minimum. Drinks were not great, reason for me knocking off one star.
Very good jazz band, nice crowd, good drinks
Great place. Small but intimate. I literally sat inches from legendary jazz musicians, and it wasnt a hard hit on the wallet either. I suggest you reserve your spot. Enjoy
We saw the concert with Omar Avittal in trio and it was just magical... Magnificent.... We love Mezzrow
Such an amazing club! It really is quite a beautiful experience here.
Welcoming, intimate space to hear some of the world’s top jazz musicians at work.
Amazing date place. And a great alternative to Smalls next door. We walked in on a full house at Smalls. The bouncer kindly directed us to Mezzrow, a more intimate space for jazz enthusiasts. Totally recommended!
Lovely little Jazz club. Amazing place with great bands
Here you still feel jazz still alive and kicking. Good drinks, service and ambiance. Thank God Mezzrow lives!
