First time dining at Le Rivage. I chose this place based on watching Chef Paul banter with Chef Brian on their YT podcast. I like his no-nonsense approach to food:traditional yet making it fun. I was not disappointed. I ordered the Steak Tartare, the duck or Canard A La Orange, and the Pear A La Beaujolaise from the 3 course Dinner Prix Fixe menu. My dinner companion had the Seafood Crepe, French Onion Soup Burger, and the Chocolate Molten Cake. Everything was so good! Too bad I have to wait until my next NY trip to be able to eat here again. Complements also to our server Nicole for her excellent service. She took very good care of us. Old world, rustic ambiance. Price? Cant put a price on such a great experience. Definitely recommend.
New York City’s timeless French Bistro! The delightful confident, old world charming service combined with delicious food makes for a winning combination at Le Rivage. From the low arched entranceway into the main dining room to its cozy paneled walls with fine paintings, soft lights, and the petite green lamps on each table there is a dedicated ambiance of laid back comfort akin to visiting your favorite, understated, rich uncle who happens to be a masterful chef!We dined after seeing a musical (Sunset Blvd), arriving early for our 7p reservation. Our host welcomed us to the bar to wait and then surprised us, when, not even halfway through our cocktails, he had us seated at a corner table where we had a magnificent view of the entire room and the full house of contented patrons. Our waiter Sunny was impeccable. His quiet attentiveness and friendly manner made the evening all the more delightful. Helping him was the kindly and gentle Aristoe.Roasted Chestnut Soup. What bliss. It is hard to place the taste of chestnut for it is not a common nut and rarely makes a showcase of its own as a soup. Yet the flavor is there: distinct and finely nuanced: earth and wood and the slightest hint of smoke from the roaring pan. The cream and butter adding such a perfect foil to the tongue. There is a surprising garnish of minutely diced fresh apple, tart and sweet and the salty… almost caperesque flavor of crispy lentils….the olive oil tasted infused with some herb… was it basil, perhaps? You just want to eat it slowly. Savoring every bite. You tell yourself that is what you are going to do. You mean well, but it is just too damn delicious and you find your bowl empty and stare at it forlornly and wonder, quite bereft, if perhaps, just this once, you could lick the bowl. Note to self: you can’t.Le Rivage cocktail. Just the right amount of pucker. It acted as the perfect sorbet between courses. The fries. (side to the French Soup Burger) These are, without a doubt, the most perfect French Fries I have ever eaten, which sounds ridiculous, but it’s true. Chef, the fries outshone your delightful, award-winning French Soup Burger. That was an expected luxury: those perfect fries. Fries that tasted sublime when served hot and still held up as delicious once they had cooled down. Who makes fries like that? Chef Danamiel and his cheerful kitchen staff do.Crème Brûlée. Firm crack of right-on-the-edge of burnt caramelized sugar… just the right hint of bitter molasses to make your tongue giddy. Custard: smooth and not overly sweet.. a steady, stable pairing, reminiscent of a good kiss.Le Rivage Apertif. Dark rum, orange peel, ginger, allspice… other parts magic. A truly fine finish to an excellent meal. The room was full of bright conviviality. If you live in NYC, this is a cozy spot where they will welcome you and remember your name. If you are a traveler and want something not to be found: this is a treasure. My only suggestion for improvement would be to update the bathrooms. They are clean and serviceable. They simply do not match the ambiance of the rest of this lovely dining establishment. It is the mildest of critiques indeed. Thank you, Chef and Staff, for a lovely experience at Le Rivage!
A little bit disappointed in the famous burger, and the Coq Au Vin portion was small with watered down sauce. Celery root soup with pomegranates was sublime. Service was good. Ambience good.
Absolutely love this old world gem! Eating at Le Rivage is like going back in time to an extraordinary place. The service and food is superb, dinned there Tuesday night with my wife, from the very polished gracious host Tommy to our excellent waiter Diego the evening was spectacular. Classic dishes with such refinement, thank you for a fantastic date night.
Charming genuine French restaurant. Perfect after the theater on restaurant row! Excellent food. White tablecloths are a treat! The pate was excellent. Cod and trout were fabulous. A great wait staff. Very welcoming. We will be coming back.
We dined at Le Rivage for my wife’s birthday. The atmosphere was wonderful, the staff was attentive and beautifully anticipated needs, the food reasonably priced and delicious, and the overall event very special.
Service and atmosphere was nice. Our party or four people had differing levels of satisfaction. Two of us didn’t like our food overall. However, the person in our group that ordered duck really enjoyed it. And the fourth didn’t comment. I felt the onion soup and green salad weren’t anything special. We also ordered a poached pear dessert and it wasn’t poached. It came out cold, totally firm, and bitter. We couldn’t cut it without a sharp knife. Table knife wasn’t enough. Table next to us shared they also didn’t like that dessert. Crème brûlée was definitely the best out of everything.
The food was AMAZING! The best onion soup, hangar steak and creme brûlée! The server was extraordinary and so friendly. I highly recommend. Thank you for an incredible night in NYC!
We had our best meal in NY at this restaurant. Since it was right before the show the menu Prix Fixe which was not a problem for us. We started with the escargot, romaine Cesar and seafood crepe. The crepe was the most delicious item. For an entree we had the BOURGUIGNON, the North Atlantic Salmon and the award winning French onion soup burger. Our favorite entree was the Bourguignon. For dessert we had the molten lava cake, NY cheesecake and crème brûlée. Our only disappointment was that the creme brulee was not set and was too liquidy. The winner was the cheesecake. We would come back for a special occasion as it was pricey.
Delicious escargots and I keep wanting to go back to that onion soup burger! Those fries and ketchup were very good too. Service is great and so is the food. This restaurant has been there for ages, which explains why the place seems a little old. It still serves yummy food and I recommend it. They have executive pre-fixed menus.
The French onion soup is a bit watery and could use more cheese. The frog legs portion was substantial and tasty, although definitely nothing like in Paris. The best part of the meal was the Peach Melba!!! The weight staff was good, the food comes out quickly, but they do try to rush you out a bit.
We all ordered the french onion soup burger. It’s my friend’s favorite burger. But the other 2 of us thought it was under seasoned. The onions were sweet, the cheese was sweet, it needed something salty to cut through all this. Also, I’d prefer brioche or the Australian style roll to the English muffin. But burger itself was cooked nicely. Creme caramel was good. Bread pudding was ok. I’d skip the chocolate mousse. Nice decor and good staff
Very popular Italian restaurant!! You definitely need a reservation. We were there on a fabulous weather night and sat outside. Other than a lot of idling and slow-moving cars on the street, it was really nice. Service was very good for how busy it was. My pork chop was a little overcooked and tough, but tasty otherwise. If you are going to a Broadway show, this restaurant is very accommodating, and they ask up front about your timing.
Organized a large party at Le Rivage recently and it was an amazing experience.Klaas was not only incredibly responsive and helpful during the planning and initial conversations, but the dinner itself was so enjoyable. The food was delicious, service was great (thanks Diego!), and our guests seemed to enjoy themselves thoroughly.I dont live in NY, but cant wait to go back to just have a regular dinner at Le Rivage, and if you are looking to host an event - whether a company dinner or even a wine night, I would highly recommend.Thank you so much, Klaas!
Walked by this place and a woman convinced us to eat here with live music. We had the mushroom risotto and it was delicious. We also had the baked seafood crepe which the sauce was decadent. Lastly we are the seated north Atlantic Salmon which was cooked to perfection and was tasty. Definitely a place to revisit!
Came here for the snails then got recommendations for their well-known French onion soup burger. It’s a new concept to me, but turns out the BEST burger I’ve ever had so far!! The burger won some awards for its unique flavor and definitely worth trying. Don’t forget the chewy snails and fresh mussels if you still have room for more.
The outdoor ambiance was nice. It’s a very busy street especially on weekends so there’s a lot of people walking right by the outdoor tables. Fri and Saturdays it’s Jazz night. I went Saturday night 7:30. The jazz band was amazing. The staff was very friendly and supper attentive. The restaurant gave a very tourist trap vibe I guess cause of the area a lot of tourist. The food was ok. The food and plates came out literally hot even to burn your skin off. They charge an extra 3.5% to pay with card which annoyed me a little bit. The prices weren’t bad for the quality of food they were serving.
My husband and I definitely enjoyed this place. The service was superb and servers and staff were very attentive. The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful and just what youd want for an intimate French restaurant experience. Food was excellent. John had the Beef Bourguignon which he found outstanding. I have the Coq Au Vin which was very good. I apologize that I forgot to take pictures of the food. Our only disappointment was in the size of the deserts (Cheesecake and bread pudding). They were tasty, but VERY small. However, that really didnt diminish our great experience.
My partner and I stumbled into this gorgeous restaurant after a very hot morning walking through the city. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and staff. We were the only two in the restaurant at the time so it felt very intimate and inviting. Diego our server was very attentive, asked about our plans for the day and even gave us some directions to where we were headed next. We had the lunch special menu for French Restaurant Week, the Seafood Bisque was phenomenal. I highly highly recommend the Creme Brulee for dessert, probably the best Ive ever had. Definitely made a great memory for myself and my partner.
Great local feeling French place. Loved they had a 3 course prefix menu for a food values. They also have real absinthe here which made for a great sazarc.
I recently dined at Le Rivage for my birthday and was thoroughly impressed. The ambiance was charming, the service impeccable, and the food exquisite. From classic dishes to innovative creations, each bite was a delight. I highly recommend Le Rivage for an unforgettable French dining experience. You wont be disappointed.
A cozy, romantic place to take a date. In our case, one of my fiancés clients treated us to dinner to celebrate our recent engagement. Service was good. Waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.As for me, I started off with a glass of cabernet and escargot. This was only my second experience with escargot. This time, it was served shelless inside this little cast-iron-looking pan filled with circular indentations (made for easier picking). For the main course, I chose the French Onion Soup Burger. Yes, yes. I had a hamburger at a French restaurant. But I couldnt help myself. It just sounded so weird. I was expecting the burger to be a soggy mess, but it was actually quite clean and tasty. Dessert was French vanilla ice cream (but of course!)Ambience was nice. Not overly-loud, and they have live music every night. Like I said, great place for a romantic evening.Looking forward to coming back on a Wednesday to try their frog legs.
This place is simply beautiful. The Food is top notch. Flavor flavor flavor. Did the $33 prix fix meal. Clams were baked to perfection crisp and fresh. The french onion soup burger as advertised and an award winner was exactly that. One of the best burgers I have had. The chicken cordon bleu tasted light and not too fried and oily which made it even better than the usual. Dessert was delicious not too sweet the raspberry bread cake and creme caramel aaaaare just right to finish off.
What a dinner we had at Le Rivage! Everything about this restaurant was of perfection! They had a live performance too which was super good. My friend had the duck (as in the video) and I had the boneless short ribs. Short ribs were super tender and flavorful and I loved the sauce that came with it. Will definitely revisit and try some other dishes!!
BEAUTIFUL and classic French restaurant. Staff VERY attentive and professional and welcoming. Our Duck lorange was superb. And the beef bourguignon was excellent. All the perfect flavor notes hit on both. Highly recommend
Not groundbreaking, but fantastically classic. For some beautiful bistro food before a show, cant be much better.Bourgingnon, mussels, mousse - prixe fixe jackpot
Been here for lunch. I had the prix fix Menue. i choosed the seafood crepes, the cordon blue and the creme brulee. interior is sweet, romantic and very cozy. loved the music which played soft in the background. waiters and service at all was still perfect. on point. friendly, warm welcome. food tastes Soo good. i would higley recommend this restaurant and hope that I can come back one time.
Solid French restaurant close to theaters with a fixed price menu. The pork chop was outstanding!! The kir Royale was excellent, creme Brule and bread pudding so good. Beef Burgandy, escargot, seafood crepes...all excellent!
The settings of the restaurant were very cozy and intimate. Its a perfect place to have a romantic candle light restaurant date. The food was the star of the show. This is a place with classic french dishes that is not afraid and unapologetic about adding enough salt and spices for flavor and taste. Will be back if Im in the area again.
I would give 2 1/2 stars. The place was filled with theater goers around 6-7:30pm. The places very small, space between the tables were narrow. We came after that crowd but the service was still bad. Our waiter wasnt attentive. When we asked for suggestion between 2 red wines, the waiter suggested another more pricier one. After we didnt take his suggestion, he never came back to us. It switched to another waitress which she was much nicer. It took a while before appetizers were served and even much longer before main courses came. We thought its a French restaurant after all, so we waited. But surprisingly the dessert came very fast after they cleaned up our plates. I think the food was only mediocre, not worth the price.
This is old school French done 100% proper! A Restaurant Row destination, cozy and family ran. I enjoyed the Pâté, and the Calves Liver. You can all also find other classics like escargot, Coq au Vin, also great burgers and seafood. I hear the French Onion Soup burger is excellent, and thats my next dish here.Go support this wonderful restaurant, places like this are becoming fewer and fewer. This is the culmination of NYCs global culture.
We had an absolutely amazing experience! The staff were awesome, the atmosphere was very relaxed, but quaint and romantic as well. The food was out of this world! We got to meet the chef, and he was super friendly. 10/10 Highly recommend!!!
My family has been coming to this restaurant for probably decades! Love all the food options and the staff is always so attentive. Perfect place to come for dinner before seeing a show. Always a pleasure to dine here
Had an early Valentine’s Day dinner hereThe food was greatThe service was greatVery romantic placePerfect for a date night
So nice atmosphere! Its a French restaurant. No one speaks Frech there! But only one beautiful girl!Thats funny! However, the food was amazing! On the other hand, they have only Henecy!French restaurant has to have a variety of French cognac!
We had a delicious pre theater dinner at Le Rivage. Good service and a good kitchen serving a diverse menu of French cuisine
Food was delicious! Beautiful presentation.
Le Rivage was wonderful! The wait staff was kind and courteous. The food was delicious. If I lived near there, I would frequent the place and try everything on the menu.
We ordered Coq au Vin and as starter French onion soup. The soup was good but the Coq au Vin!!!!The serving was very small and we believe they forgot the vine. The taste was OK even though we prefer the dish without potatoes. Two small potatoes, two mushrooms and two small pieces of smoked pork and almost no liquid served not in a bowl but a soup bowl! The price was USD 39!!!!
Cozy little French restaurant. Excellent service and friendly staff. The leak appetizer was a lovely combination of luscious caper creaminess, tender leak hearts, and crunchy Roasted Pistachios. The main was a perfectly cooked crispy skinned trout with scrumptious wine and almond sauce. Wine pairing with a crisp stone fruit Sav blanc from Loire France.
The French onion burger was delish!! Diego was a wonderful waiter. The service was excellent. If you have tried this restaurant you should!
The food was good, not great, but good. The french onion soup was fine, just not great. The beouf burginon was very good, but a small portion. The profiteroles were stale.
Enjoyed: Get a reservation.Small venue slightly noisy and cramped.Fix menu $70 plus drinks: worth it 😊
The Food is amazing, the only bad thing was that they just give you the option to order the full menu. (A bit expensive)
I really love going to this place, the food, drinks and the service are amazing!
If you are looking for a good restaurant in this area, I highly recommend this place. Excellent food, great ambience and worth the price!
Loved everything but the duck, liked it didnt love it. Not the chefs fault I didnt know how much orange sauce would be on it, should have asked.
We had a wonderful experience at Le Rivage. The food was excellent and so quickly prepared. The waitstaff (especially our server Diego) were attentive and kind, and answered all of our questions. There was live music beginning toward the end of our meal, which was divine! Highly recommend coming here for a romantic and relaxed meal!
Such a wonderful place to step away from the hustle and bustle of this mid-town area. Lower lights and light music make it very welcoming and a great place to sit and converse. Service was excellent. 5 stars on that. Appetizers were delicious and the entrees superb. Dessert less so and that took a star off the rating.
The French Onion Soup Burger, Escargot, and the Coq Au Vin were delicious
Amazing restaurant. We didnt even have reservations and were served with the utmost attention and care. The food was exceptional, the atmosphere was so cozy and nice and there was live music when we were there. There were celebrities sitting at the table next to us. Again we simply walked in and were seated at arguably the best table in the place, right in front of the band. The potatoes and leek soup was the most delicious soup I ever had, and my steak-frites was cooked perfectly and served with an amazing sauce. The chocolate mousse was excellent as well. This was all at a very reasonable price as well. This will be a required stop every time I am in the city. The whole experience was perfection. The waiter was patient and highly professional in giving recommendations and attention to our needs.
Great food, Great atmosphere and good service. Large portions for a French restaurant, many choices of traditional dishes very flavorful. Will be back!!
The restaurant was great. The bisque was delicious. For the main course, the pork chop was juicy and cooked perfectly. We did the pre movie menu but didnt have time for our dessert. The wait staff let us come back after the show. We went back and the peach melba was awesome.
Great spot for a pre show dinner. They have a nice 3 course pre-fixe dinner option for $43. Recommend the escargot and seafood bisque appetizers.
The service from our waiter and staff was outstanding! Quick with everything and very friendly. The atmosphere was beautiful and rustic inside, very pretty with the string lights. The outdoor seating was where we sat and it was great. The food, just ok. Not terrible but I expected better. The French onion was really good. Beef bourguignon was just alright ... more of an American pot roast than beef bourguignon. Apps and drinks were on too. Creme brulee was warm on the sides and cold in the middle.
If you’re looking for a quaint French restaurant, I recommend Le Rivage. A few blocks away from the busiest part of the city, helps this “family owned feeling” restaurant feel a bit quieter than its surroundings. Highly recommend the French onion burger! We were a bit apprehensive to skip something more traditional, but after reading its menu description, opted to give it a shot. While the steak frites were also very good, the burger was the star of our night. We also tried the baked clams and the escargot (which left a garlicky taste in our mouths for the rest of the night, so consider that if this is a date night selection). It was not the best we’ve had so, while it was good, considering lasting taste (and smell on our breath) we’ll take a pass on these next time. We’ll definitely come back here in the future.
Absolutely wonderful. We had to fit dinner between two Broadway shows and the staff was incredibly attentive to this schedule. First, they proactively reached out by phone the day before to ask if we happened to be heading to a show and if we had any time constraints. That was very thoughtful. Second, while at the restaurant the staff was excellent in their ability to take our orders quickly and keep things moving without making us feel rushed. I happen to own a restaurant and I know that this is not an easy task to accomplish. They executed perfectly. As always, the meal was delicious and my guests who were visiting me in NYC were charmed and delighted. Merci et à bientôt.
Visiting from Michigan where French food is scarce. So finding Le Rivage was an excellent find!We started with Moules Farcies, baked stuffed mussels. The perfectly cooked mussels and stuffing coupled with the recommended Bordeaux was excellent.I recall seeing, on a cooking show, a review of the French Onion Soup Burger and all the awards it won in NYC. Yes, it deserved all the accolades the creation of Chief Paul received. Its a hamburger at a totally different level. The Coq Au Vin we also ordered was superior to the Coq Au Vin I had in Paris. The dinner was enhanced with the creme brûlée and chocolate mousse. Before our flight we had the french soup which was excellent. The service was special and made you feel welcomed.A great find indeed!
Le Rivage was great. The beef bourguignon was our favorite and we also liked the gambas Le Rivage. We asked the waiter for chartreuse at the end and they had it, but it wasn’t on the menu. They had some singers that played the piano and sung and they were having a great time. The service was great too. I really like when places have an app, entree, and dessert combo and Le Rivage had a great one!
We loved this place! Diego was a top notch server. He went above and beyond to make sure our experience was worth our wait. All of the food was delicious and they were all big portions. We had the dinner pre fixed menu. We had the pork chops which were unbelievably tender, the steak frites, seafood bisque and French onion soup. We will definitely be back here!
This was an excellent choice for dinner among all the other options ...my hubby did great picking this restaurant . We enjoyed live entertainment in English and French ....a terrific evening!!!!
Amazing French restaurant! The risotto was creamy and flavorful, the fish was perfectly moist, and the burger was delicious. Highly recommend!
One of the Big Apples best. Takes you somewhere in France with the ambience, food and music. Me and my friends had a great time.
Great place!! It is pretty inside, food was tasty (we had the three-course lunch fixed price: steak au poivre, onion soup, beef bourguignon, creme brulle, all really good), staff were friendly. Amazing place!
I had the French Onion burger. Ive eaten many burgers, MANY burgers. Without thinking I know its easily in my top 5 burgers of all time, probably top 3. I paused for a moment to contemplate my burger history and its definitely top 3.Anyway moving on. It was cooked perfectly medium rare. (Side note if you eat a burger cooked any more than med-rare, youre a filthy animal.) It was served on an English muffin which I think is becoming over done, but it works very well for this particular burger. There are two types of cheese on this burger, the first is fried like a flat mozzarella stick, the second is so gooey its bordering on being a sauce. The onions, oh the onions! Im not a huge fan of onions, as Ive gotten older though Ive come to tolerate them, usually Ill slide most of them off, leaving a few behind and go about eating my burger. Not with this burger, I took a first bite with the proportion of onions as they were given to me and Im glad that I did. They onions were perfectly cooked, sauteed into a caramelized onion delight. Ive never written so much about onions in my life. But thats not all, after all that deliciousness that is packed into the burger, you think there cant possibly be any more... but then broth from the French onion soup is poured on to the burger. Magnificent.
Not only the waiter was rude but also charged $6 more from the tip I left. This is just unbelievable. I will file a dispute with my bank
Just such a lovely experience. Diego was a stellar server, we tried many dishes and they were all delicious - escargot & endive salad get an A +. The cocktails were excellent. Staff, space, all of it. So cozy, so sweet. Absolutely pay a visit.
Great French cuisine tucked away in a small street in New York. The atmosphere is slightly stuffy, could use better lighting.
Nice food and very friendly staff. Prices were also reasonable. I had the prix fixe and got la bisque as appetizer, buoef bourgegoune and the ice cream.. just lovely
Le Riyage best food quality is awesome. the service is outstanding .I recommend French restaurant I would visit again..
We had a really lovely pre theatre meal. Service was excellent.
Cozy French restaurant with delicious food.Restroom wasnt clean and need renovation though
This place is one of my favorites in the whole city. The food is delicious and the staff is lovely. They have a fabulous pre fix menu that I was sad to see change for the summer. Hoping to see the old one again soon. But still the food is delicious and the atmosphere is romantic and peaceful. My favorite place to bring friends and to dine solo.
Seems like a cliche tourist spot but it’s actually very good and the English muffin burger is worth every award it got. It makes it into my top 20 dishes in the city.
Words cannot express just how phenomenal of an experience the staff at Le Rivage gave myself and my partner on our anniversary; especially as two people who have anxieties around food and eating out in particular. The atmosphere and decor are nothing short of beautiful and welcoming, almost akin to a loving family home. The food was absolutely impeccable and the wine (I had the Malbec, highly recommended), was simply put: divine.I could be here for hours gushing about how lovely the place but that in itself would be a disservice. Go and visit to see for yourself. And get the chocolate molten cake too - that was amazing also. The only negative would be that it’s now set our standards incredibly high, which is especially problematic seeing as we’re from the UK 😂
We very much enjoyed our lunch. The Fixed Price Menu is a very good value. The baked seafood crepe, calf liver, and beet salad were excellent! My husband also LOVED the chocolate mousse. Our friend requested French, and this was the right place. Classic food. Cozy atmosphere. Unpretentious. Attentive service. I believe the owner is generally on site.
This place is fantastic! One of my favorite in the city, but absolutely the best spot in the area for a fun romantic date. Ive been coming here for over 10 years and have never been disappointed w/the live jazz and Ive never had a bad meal here either. Thats huge!
This cute little restaurant was hidden among several other theater district eateries, we almost walked by it but I am so glad we didnt. Proximity to the theaters was great, the staff was super considerate of show times and would make suggestions based on how much time you had.The food was amazing. We had the endive salad and seafood bisque to start. The bisque had a deeply developed flavor, the salad was light and refreshing. Then we had steak frites and the calf liver. The steak reduction was great to dip fries into. The liver was out of this world, and came with caramelized onions, brussel sprouts, and a potato puree; the kitchen clearly knows what theyre doing. For dessert we had creme brulee and the creme caramel as I cant resist a custard based dessert. We did the lunch prix fix menu. So that includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert for about $50. All told, it was a great deal. Drinks were not included as part of the prix fix but were also really interesting and paired well with the menu. I cant wait to go back.
Had a lovely pre theatre meal. Loved the atmosphere, service impeccable and meal, drinks and wine lovely!
Great classic French food. Delicious cocktails. Short but interesting wine list. Obviously carers to the theater crowd which we were part of. Mindful of show times. Great variety of choices for prix fixe menu.
The French onion soup burger is one of my favorite burgers ever. Its a must try! The service is always amazing, and the food is always delicious. Run dont walk.
Authentic French restaurant in the heart of the Theater district NYC.Yummy food, nice wine list, sweet environment & friendly service- highly recommend!Im from Paris, and this is one of the few French restaurants that has authentic cuisine. We will be back 🥂🇨🇵🙂
Great place! Every single dish we had was delicious. The lady in the front (perhaps the Owner) is very lovely and attentive. Very authentic French food and place. Highly recommended
Went for dinner after seeing Moulin Rouge on Broadway. Cool atmosphere, great service, and delicious food! The French Onion soup and Mussels Marinere were so good. I also had a wonderful birthday serenade from the servers who brought out my creme brulee with a birthday candle!
This place has a romantic, old-school vibe. The $70 prix fixe includes an appetizer, entree, and dessert, and I chose the pate, famous French onion soup burger, and creme brulee. The food was all good, but nothing special. I was disappointed by the burger after all the acclaim; the English muffin bun was an interesting choice because it got soggy very quickly. Service was friendly, but slow.
Wonderful French restaurant! The Coq A Vin was especially delicious. The staff were very attentive, and the band were delightful.
Located on Restaurant Row, down the block from where we saw a show. We had the $60 Prefix dinner which overall was good. I had the seafood crepe with shrimp and scallops. Very tasty. Wife had the baked muscles which were good but several had some sand in them. I had the excellent French Onion Soup burger. My wife had the Rainbow trout which was not that good. Overcooked, dry and fishy tasting. For dessert, I had the bread pudding, very good but very sweet. My wife had the creme brulee but not properly torched on top. Great service and fast presentation. It was overall good.
Overall, this was an average experience. They serve typical French bistro fare. I’d been craving some heartwarming French food so went with the French onion soup and the beef bourguignon. Both were average, nothing particularly remarkable about them. But they were also both on the small side. I finished with the chocolate mouse - yummy but also on the small side. Service was a little inattentive and confused. About the best thing to say about the place was the decor which was nice and cozy. But the prices, which are very high for what one gets, definitely makes this a one time visit for me.
I’ve been here 15 year ago, left for Australia for 10 years and went back this week and it’s still how I remember. The menu has changed of course but still the same staples of French onion soup and butter, bone marrow and escargot. Actually the best, even better than Paris and I can say that coz I went last month and this food is superb. Hands down will always come back when I need a slice of Paris again.
Food was excellent; the prix fixe lunch menu is incredibly priced for the quality and portions! The staff was professional and kind. The hostess was so sweet, friendly and attentive. Recommend the Escargots, Moules, Trout Almandine, Frisbee aux Lardons, and French onion soup!
The Best Duck I Have Ever Had! Fantastic Service and A Wonderful Experience!
Great French restaurant. I wanted to try Escagort, and it succeeded my expectations. We had the prix fixe menu, which was an excellent choice. If you are catching a Broadway show, this restaurant is close to the theater. Great service! You would be better off making a reservation. Otherwise, you might have a long wait.
Honestly, honestly. Good service firstly, because my husband and I went to see a show on broadway after the dinner so the staff made sure our food was finished quicker so we’d make our show. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice and welcoming I must say.Now the food was okay. I’ve tried French cuisine before— exquisite. However this restaurant was very mediocre from the appetizer to the dessert. I wasn’t sure if it was this way because they were rushing on our meal, but I do feel if the food would taste this way the pricing should be cheaper.Other than that, had a fine time. P.S. if you order from there, do not order the rainbow trout. It’s really not good. I don’t know why they recommended it to me.
Im coming to this restaurant for years and it never disappoints between the food and the service you always leave very satisfied.
I very much enjoyed the atmosphere and the food at Le Rivage, but I was shocked by the service. We had a reservation at 5:15pm on a Saturday night before a show, and half our party arrived early at 5pm, and took a seat at the table since the restaurant was near empty. By 5:15 the rest of the group joined us, and we ordered our three courses. I thought it was strange that our server asked us what time our play was at. The food came out so quickly that we couldnt finish one course by the time the next was on the table. By 6:20pm, we felt almost pushed out of the restaurant and were given a check before we had even made our way through dessert. By 6:25, the manager or host literally asked us to leave the table and sit at the bar because they had a party waiting, all the while, there were other tables available in the room. I was shocked by the rudeness and bad management of it all. Ive never been to such a highly reviewed restaurant that has a strict hour an a half limit for a 3-course experience. The food was great, but it was overshadowed by such disappointing behavior. After dropping $100 per meal, youd think theyd be better at treating their guests.
Food was good! Only snails had a very slight bitter aftertaste.
Our waiter was Diego and he was phenomenal!!
This place was not bad. The food was good, although we ordered a side of sauteed spinach and it came out cold. The bread pudding dessert was kind of disappointing, but I guess this just isnt really a dessert place. The primary issue is its just so expensive for what you get, which is kind of par for the course in the theater district. But Id recommend perhaps wandering a bit beyond restaurant row and finding cheaper more hidden places.
They use every square centimeter of this place to make this establishment happen. So---its tight and its very hard to have a conversation because your table will be seated exactly 12 inches away from the next table. On the other hand, you can hear everything the table next to you is chatting about. They are good if you have a show to see--but for me--that rush and extra service was too interruptive to enjoy the dinning experience. There is a wall of wine bottles on the way down to the bathroom that have layers (plural) of dust. I realize on restaurant row most of the establishments are set up this way. It is not my cup of tea. The food is okay.
I love French onion soup and frogs legs are one of my favorites and Le Rivage is one of the only French restaurants that sells them. Omg they were so delicious. I also wanted to try their French onion soup burger which was heavenly. No complaints at all!!!The food was incredible!
Second time eating here when visiting the big city good food and great music!
Whether you live in NYC or are there for a visit, Le Rivage is a MUST EAT HERE restaurant. Weve been going for years and it is our go-to when we have theatre tickets. The staff works as a team, and manages to never rush you, even if you are in the rush! This last trip was in early Oct 2024 and there were six of us. We celebrated a birthday and the entire staff came to sing! If you are fortunate to be there when Burhan is working, he will take extra special care of you just as he did for us! Reservations strongly recommended. ENJOY!
Marginal food and bad ambiance makes it not worth the price. The food was inconsistent, as some items were very good while others were not. My plate of steak frites felt and looked like it sat under a heat lamp. The steak was good, but cooked to varied amounts while the fries were bland and not fresh. All of the food and the ambiance felt old and stale; something needs to change to make it interesting and fresh. The desserts were well prepared. The service was acceptable, but they rushed you.
What can be better on a rainy day than the warm peace of France in the middle of Manhattan? Add to it delicious food and excellent service. Thank you, “Le Rivage,” for making my day a little nicer. I especially want to thank my waiter Jose. Your kind service was definitely one of the best I have ever had.
Le Rivage is the kind of restaurant I really enjoy, with old school French dishes (escargot! duck a lorange, bouef bourgingon) and nice burgundies, served by an attentive staff. It has been in this location for a long time, and the space feels lived in, in a good way. Live jazz most nights. Lots of charm.I nearly rated Le Rivage 5 stars because it was so pleasant and classic, but, if Im being honest, the cuisine was just short of expectations. Very good salad frisee, but the bone marrow came with some surprisingly flavorless topping, the cordon blue was more like a chicken saltimbocca (that is, not butterflied and stuffed, but topped with ham & cheese), and the creme brulees glaze was soft, rather than glass like. Maybe Im being nit-picky. Still really liked the establishment and will be coming back.
Amazing staff, so friendly and happy. Great customer service rivaled only by their great food. On this day I had their FAMOUS and AWARD-WINNING French Onion Soup Burger and seasoned fries. Oh man was it good. I highly recommend this restaurant and GET THAT BURGER!
Excellent food and service. The manager went out of his way to make our groups experience great. Everyones meal was perfect, the atmosphere is very comfortable and the staff is helpful. Highly recommend restaurant if you are looking for authentic French cuisine.
Everything was great from the food to the service to the live music. I was extremely appreciative of how helpful you guys were with making sure I knew which options were vegetarian and everything was delicious.
Looks like an out of the way place but once you go inside is very spacious and the atmosphere is wonderful. The service was amazing as well with staff members being extremely attentive and quick with any help you needed or just refilling drinks or bringing more complimentary bread to the table. The food itself was fantastic and flavorful, I had gotten their salmon dish and compared to other places I have tried it from, Le Rivage was head and shoulders above the competition. The seasonings, the garnish, and the presentation were really top of the line. I left there more than happy with what I had experienced and can’t wait to go back to try their most famous dish, the French onion soup burger, next time I’m able to return to their restaurant.
Food was excellent. Mussels appetizer was perfect. Braised beef was flavorful, soft to touch and a nice size portion. The jazz band playing was great. The band played well and you could still have a conversation. The waiter was professional, personable and friendly. The dessert menu was extensive. The creme brulee was very good.We did theater prixe fixe menu, great choices at a very reasonable price.Try the house spiced rum, a nice end to a meal.
Le Rivage is my little darling French restaurant I love to go often! Outstanding food, and wine selection, impeccable and very friendly service. Great ambiance and so fun live music in the evening. Thank you to the chef and Thibaud for making sure we are having a great time !! Highly recommended
The staff is wonderful! Gisèle and Ioana made me feel very welcome. The restaurant has a very cosy atmosphere. The lighting is restful and the paintings superb!
Amazing value for their food. Mussels for appetizer was amazing, their vegetarian soup for appetizer wasnt anything super special and memorable but still good. Their entrees are freakishly good. I had the french onion soup burger which was out of this world and also tried their rib eye which was super juicy and good. Their desserts are also A1. The staff are very friendly and the overall vibe is ambient and very warm.
We went as a party of five. My wife and daughter had been here before and really enjoyed the breaded mussels appetizer, so we went back. The muscles were good. We thought the dinners were hit and miss. I guess I was thinking that going to a French restaurant in New York City on Restaurant Row would have been a little more authentic.
Delicate interior decor of oil paintings and string lights that gives a warm and comfortable vibe. First impression, a traditional french bistro. Surprisingly, therere some specials on the menu that you wont find them in other places, roasted duck flavored with orange sauce and flamed by alcohol, savory crepe with creamy and fresh seafood inside. Also need to try their daily fruit tarts. Overall, its an affordable place and the taste was not salty or greasy.
A perfect post-show dinner with my daughter and son-in-law, enhanced by the song styling of Flo.
Lovely and intimate, with beautifully prepared classic French dishes. Very professional staff makes this the perfect go-to place anytime you want a terrific dining experience.
Met a friend for an extended lunch. We had an excellent fixed price meal. Spent 3 hours talking and did not feel rushed at all. The service was what you would expect at any 5 star restaurant. I look forward to returning.
This was one of the worst meals I’ve had. We had a reservation for a table outdoors for a pre-show meal. Upon arriving on time for our reservation we were told that there were no tables available outdoors OR indoors. After waiting around for a while, the host tried to seat our party of four at a two-top outside. Finally, we were led indoors, where there were plenty of empty tables. Now, about the dining room: It is an anxiety-inspiring space. Dark walls, low ceilings. Bad paintings. Our waiter seated us and then immediately began hassling us for our orders as “time was running out” or something like that due to our curtain time. For pre-show you must order from their prices-fixe menu which I am normally very happy about but this is one of the largest prizes fixe menus I’ve ever seen. I’m used to a menu that offers 3-4 options for appetizers, entrees and desserts. This one has about 20.I ordered the vegetable couscous (drowning in oil), gambas de rivage (rubbery shrimp, under seasoned, unpleasant to look at and essentially inedible) and a sorbet (too much). At the end of the meal we rushed out, way before our curtain time, but not before I visited the bathroom, which was dirty, hot, and had flies.I would avoid this place like the plague. There are better places to eat before a show.
Sonny was great he was very pleasant . Was very helpful with menu. Great service 👍. Recommend 100%.
Great food and service. Fantastic staff
Very nice French, romantic place with a live jazz band. Ideal for the date. It has classical French cuisine menu. It was quite tasty, but the reason I gave only 4 stars is that 3 out 4 courses that I have ordered came barely warm. I guess it is problem of the kitchen as the place was quiet busy. They also have outside seating.
Diego was fantastic: knowledgeable, kind and efficient. The prix fixe menu was great. Pay the extra $6 and get the profiteroles…decadent and so worth it. Great place to dine before a Broadway show!
Best French Onion soup in NYC!!!
The service is OUTSTANDING. Items on the menu offer a solid selection of classic French, as promised. The duck was delicious, my wifes filet steak was unbelievably tender, and the creme brulee took me to another place.
Came here after watching a musical and had a fantastic time! The Frog legs and French Onion Soup were to die for and we had an amazing atmosphere with live music playing. The waiting staff was great and our waiter (cannot remember his name but we talked about Moulin Rouge) was fantastic! Highly recommend.
I had an absolute exquisite time there, I was asked to sing by Edward Caslin and that went wonderful! Excellent service and atmosphere! Would recommend this Restaurant!
Fabulous pre show pre fixed menu. Diego was a fabulous waiter. The whole staff was very attentive and the food was delicious
It was way to expensive for their quality. Im happy to pay a bit of money for a nice night out and for good quality. That was not what I got at Le Rivage. The duck lorange was overpowered with a sweet orange taste so I could barely taste the duck. I waited for the dessert for more than 40 minutes and when my Crème Brule final arrived it was one of the worst I ever had. Very unacceptable for a high end French restaurant. There are better French places in Manhattan for the same price or even less expensive.
My friends and I have so come to love Le Rivage!!! The food is delicious, the staff so lovely and warm. We play jazz here and it’s our favorite atmosphere to come to! And decorated so beautifully for Christmas, you must stop in!
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! I felt like I was dining in Paris :) can’t wait to come back.
Amazing experience.Classic French cuisine and excellent service. Its worthy to have pre-fixe and live music till almost midnight in weekend.
We were very late for our 6:00 pm reservation they held the table till 7:00 when we finally arrived they realized that they had to give us their full attention in order for us to make to the theater by 8:00. They accomplished this task with flying colors. The food a 5 the service a 5 and the ambiance a 5. Thank you Le Rivage!
We made reservations at Le Rivage before our show last weekend…2 hours before, knowing that would be plenty of time given the two blocks between. We ordered promptly upon being seated, and received our appetizers swiftly. After that, just imagine a fast moving movie montage where everyone else is receiving entrees and food while we sit and wait and wait and sit. Our waitress became increasingly frantic, and kept coming back to us telling us that the kitchen said “just one more minute.” After the 10th or so time we had heard “one more minute, and when an hour and a half had finally passed, we decided we were done. We told our server that we just wanted to get going. Another 5 mins pass until the manager comes over and confirms what we had suspected (“I hear you have been forgotten”), and told us not to worry because the food is coming… you guessed it…. In just one more minute. We politely informed him that even if we believed him (and we did not), we would not actually have time to EAT the second course (let alone the THIRD) and still make our show. They didn’t charge us anything, we left our waitress a $20 because it was certainly not her fault, and made it to our show in time. Worse still, they went in after the fact and “canceled” our reservation on open table (presumably to prevent a 1 star review like this one).
Absolutely delicious and great service. Started with the frog legs that were super tasty and then had the cordon blue which was equally tasty. The drinks were great and service met all of our needs. Highly recommend
We had a lovely lunch here. Were long time admirers of this restaurant and frequent it often. The food is delectable the service kind and efficient. Do yourself a favor and come to LeRivage.
I attended a vendor-hosted dinner and, unfortunately, the service fell short of expectations. The waiter seemed inattentive from the start. I ordered a gin martini with a twist but was served a dirty gin martini. To make matters worse, he mixed up the drinks and handed me a vodka martini meant for another guest in our party. While I initially shrugged it off, the lack of attention persisted throughout the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the steak au poivre, but the waiter asked if I wanted steak frites instead. I clarified that the other two guests wanted steak frites, while I wanted the steak au poivre cooked medium rare. Despite this, I was served a steak cooked medium well. The atmosphere also had its issues—the table lighting was uncomfortably bright. Lastly, toward the end of the evening, I politely asked to stop refilling my water and moved my glass aside, but the waiter continued pouring. These repeated oversights impacted what should have been an enjoyable evening.
Wonderful food!!! Great experience.
Bartender do a great job, Diego the Argentinian keeps the good attitude and professionalism. The environment itself is very cozy n romantic
Our reviews had over 36 million reviews last year. We really loved Le Rivage. We had a great time with great food and a wonderful atmosphere we went on a Thursday night about 630 for a pre-theater dinner and they have a price fix option which is wonderful it includes an appetizer and entrée and dessert for appetizer I had the frog legs which I’ve never had before but they were excellent and they even brought out some additional sauce so I could put it on my bread which was excellent she had the muscles which are Cooked in garlic butter French herbs and breadcrumbs on top with a nice crispy crunch which she really enjoyed for entrée we both had the famous French onion soup burger which is one several words and is worth every bite it is a lot of food and could easily be split so I would recommend the next time I go is to split a French onion soup burger and get one additional main course perhaps the steak up Whataburger or steak fritz etc. for dessert she had the peach melba Sunday which she loved so much she would not share it with me I had the famous bread pudding which in the photographs is the yellow square with brown lines on it of chocolate it is fantastic and so good that I actually were a second one lol we both enjoyed the coffee Americano very strong and very delicious we highly recommend this place and will be going back again often. The music started at 7 PM and was absolutely lovely with a piano and a female singer singing in both French and English the room is very romantic with a lot of French paintings and the staff is wonderful we were not rushed but they asked us what time you wanted to leave to make sure that they can get everything done on time and it was a wonderful experience. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 36 million views so far this year and we thank you for that. We dont get paid, we just love to eat. Amazing experience!Food was delicious, service was great, and the live music was a perfect add for the date night!
What a great place...Everything was a 5 star experience!! The staff were friendly, food delicious, ambience so quaint...Nothing bad about this place except it is 2 hours away from me...Will definitely go back next time Im in the city..♥️
Le Rivage has become one of my favorite restaurants. Delicious French food, wonderful atmosphere, and a very welcoming staff. I absolutely love their jazz nights and signature cocktails.
Food and atmosphere transport you to the French countryside. The lunch prix fix is a great value.
Nice Restaurant, we had Mussels in a white wine sauce and Chicken Cordon Bleu. Both very good. The only strange thing is mussels came with French fries, should come with bread to soak up the sauce. Location is great, on a closed street for restaurants
The food and decor are outstanding, had the seafood crepe bake and French onion soup burger which was amazing. Unfortunately I will never recommend this place nor return due to the service and experience we had. The staff needs a complete overhaul. We had a late 9 pm reservation for Sunday, pretty empty when we went which is fine, seated in a middle table towards the back where at the end of the night apparently the entire staff just hangs out and talks to one another. If the place is empty, you’d think they would seat a couple in a corner booth for more intimacy and privacy. For a place that’s got the right decor and food going on, they need to speak to the staff that hanging out right in the dining room around guests even at the end of the night is just not ok, just don’t allow late reservations if that’s the case. I felt extremely uncomfortable since I kept making eye contact with a new person from the kitchen standing literally right next to our table every 5 minutes. We had 3 new servers by the time we left due to the night winding down which is fine, but they changed without saying anything to us once. Just overall wish we could’ve just ordered the food to go and didn’t set foot inside.
The ultimate. I love this place. Finest cuisine in NY. Great to visit Fridays or Saturday, as have a jazz band. Food and service is always amazing. Thankyou Hernandez, Thibault and the team, if I could fly to NY monthly, I would eat here every time
Recommended by a local friend. Such a great atmosphere. Had the French Onion burger and fries with a wonderful salad and peach Melba for dessert. Perfect for dining before shows. Wonderful service. Would go there again.
Fantastic food and service. We went with a pretheater group. All the dishes were wonderful. 3 course prix fixe. We will be back soon!!!
The service was amazing, the food was delicious, and combined with the atmosphere it brought me back to my trips to France. The frog legs were a delicious way to start our meal. They are just like chicken wings but with a slight flakey white fish texture. The duck was amazing and perfectly finished with the orange sauce. My wife enjoyed the cordon blue which was prepared in layers which was different than her experience in the States. She has not been to France physically but with the meal she was transported there. We finished the meal with the most amazing bread pudding we have had.
This is a very decent place for your pre-post show meal. Their prix fixe menu offers a broad cross-section of popular French dishes and desserts, and, to its credit, it does take off the edge of a difficulty to choose something. The service is pretty quick. The staff are mostly French, very polite and welcoming. The lighting, oil paintings and wooded accents add nicely to the atmosphere in the style of the French province, and is quite intimate and cozy. The only reason why I wouldnt give this place 5 stars is that the quality of food preparation leaves some room for improvement. Some of the same dishes I tried in France for a small fraction of the cost at Le Rivage were significantly tastier and prepared with more enthusiasm and improvisation. But given everything else, this is but nitpicking. I hence would recommend this restaurant.
Sonny was outstanding, he even opened the restaurant 20 minutes early! The food was outstanding but service even better
We had our Company Team Dinner at Le Rivage. A party of 36 guests and La Rivage provided excellent service, food, and entertainment. Their pre-fix dinner was the best price in New York City. We received the best customer service from the General Manger, Thibaud Muller. Thank you.
Classic French experience. White table cloths, excellent service. Food was perfectly prepared. The award winning burger was cooked perfectly, cheese wsrm and caressing the beef, topped with creamy carmelized onions. Cant wait to go back for more. The chef was generous with his time; circled the room to see.if diners were enjoying their meal.
I always thought that French Restaurants sort of have its charm and always keep up with high standards of food. But after I visited Le Rivage restaurant, oh boy!! how was I wrong! I ordered fried duck there and I think it wasnt a duck, it was rather duck mummy. It was so dry that I had to take water after each bite and chew for 10 minutes. The sauce on duck was pure sugar, sweet like a desert. And the irony of it all is that server who took our order told me: The duck is the best! Good choice!))))) and right when he took the order he ended his shift and never came back to our table! Oh how I wanted to express my opinion about duck to him at that moment! Oh right and the last thing: the bill was $50! good way to spend your hard earned money on such disgusting food!
Got the pri fixe. French onion soup burger was the best. I cant remember a better burger than that. A must order! They also had live music around 8pm, which was an unexpected surprise!
Amazing authentic French faire with a perfect location for a theater night. Wine selection is excellent and our service was spot on. Enjoyed escargot and truite almandine both of which were executed perfectly. Well be back!
After spending a month in France back in June we were in the mood for authentic French cuisine while in NYC. And we found it!!! Le Rivage exceeded our expectations. Diego was a fantastic server and all employees there were friendly and helpful. Not always the case in NYC. We had the Coq Au Vin and the Beef Bourguignon and they were both perfect. We’ve eaten on that street so many times and didn’t even know this fabulous restaurant was right in front of us. A must pick.
Le Rivage, nestled along New York City’s iconic Restaurant Row, creates a cozy, French countryside ambiance where classic French dishes are thoughtfully prepared. The menu showcases traditional options like escargot, steak frites, and coq au vin, each crafted with authentic flavors that impress. While the dining area is close-knit with tables set closely together, the attentive service truly enhances the experience. Notably, the staff thoughtfully checks if guests have plans to see a show, pacing the meal accordingly to ensure timely service for theatergoers. For those who appreciate authentic French cuisine in the heart of the theater district, Le Rivage is a delightful choice.
Came here for the pre-theater prix fixe dinner. I had the seafood crepe, salmon, and creme brûlée and everything was really good. A bit expensive, but expected for a place on restaurant row. Highly recommend!
The Thanksgiving experience dinner was really poor. After being seated, we were told that the restaurant was out of the Thanksgiving turkey dish and we were asked to order other dishes or choose a la carte. That was fine but both the duck and the coq au vin were terrible - we didnt even finish 20% of it. The duck seemed steeped in some sugary broth while the coq au vin was just too salty. The worst and most insulting part after all this - another party was then seated next to us, who came in about 30 minutes later and they were told that the Thanksgiving turkey dish was available. What?!? This restaurant had a lot of positive reviews on Open Table, Google, Yelp, etc. which is why we chose it. But really disappointed and left early feeling insulted. Please find another credible French restaurant in NYC (lots to choose from) and save yourself from being disappointed and insulted.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in NYC! Le Rivage has the atmosphere of a French bistro and food so good it’s like ecstasy on your tongue. Staff and manager were wonderful and attentive. Can’t wait to come back!
Had duck and the pan seared cod, and it was delicious. Sonny the waiter was fantastic!
The food and service are both excellent, but the standout is definitely the bartender. Diego is always friendly and crafts amazing drinks. My favorites are the Le Rivage and the Chocolate Martini.
This cozy French restaurant never fails to disappoint us when we need a delicious dinner before a show. Their Pre-fixe menu is great, and if you come later (after the theater rush) you can get a nice meal for a good price. The chef always comes out to greet the guests, and the food is always delicious. I always recommend Le Rivage to Broadway show-goers. They also work very efficiently to get you out in time for your show - otherwise ust let them know and they dont rush you.
The food was excellent and service was phenomenal.
First time there and wont be the last. The food was great but the greeting and service we recieved were like no other. Strongly recommend!
The food at Le Rivage was amazing! We’ve tried Escargots and baked Mussels as appetizers. The escargot tasted flavorful and Mussel was very fresh. The waiter recommended their most popular dishes for Entrees. One was French Onion Soup Burger and other was Boeuf Bourguignon. He said the burger is one of the best in NYC and he was right! The meat in the burger was juicy and it definitely tasted like French Onion soup. We were so addicted to it! The Boeuf was a boneless Short Rib Braised in Burgundy Wine, Egg Noodles, carrot and Mushroom. The short rib tasted so delicious with red wine. We also had room for dessert. My favorite desserts were the Bread Pudding and chocolate Mousse. The pudding was the right sweetness and did not disappoint. The chocolate mousse was so rich and you could really taste the chocolate. I would love to bring my friends to this restaurant for them to experience the wonderful flavors of France.
Very very delicious fine dining experienced my family had (appetizer -escargots de Bourgogne, entrees- moules mariniere, Boeuf Bourguignon, steak & eggs, Canard A L’Orange, Coq Au Vin, steamed mussels)
What an awesome night for my good friends birthday. The restaurant is doing a great job with social distancing & COVID restrictions, and the Maître D, Giselle, and our server Julien went above and beyond to ensure we felt safe, taken care of, and special. Not to mention, the food & desserts were delectable. I had the French onion soup burger - wow. I cant wait to come back and hope & pray this restaurant thrives during the rough winter ahead 🙏🏽
This week is the first week of restaurant week in NYC, and Le Rivage is one of the participating restaurants. Their RW dinner menu is $60, the same price with their dinner prix fixe menu, but the prix fixe one has more options, though not including all the options in RW menu. The food overall was delicious! My favorite was the escagorts. The french onion soup burger was pretty interesting, very new. The least favorite dish for me would be the chocolate molten cake as I was expecting some melted chocolate filling but didnt get it. They have live piano performance late at night; pretty nice vibe in general. Very good service as well!
Amazing meal. Helpful and courteous wait staff. French onion burger and seafood crepes are out of this world.
Great French restaurant. Ideal for a date night. Great staff from the coat to the waiter. Very attentive staff. The vibes were perfect. The food was amazing . Definitely will be going again.
Definitely overpriced for what it’s worth. The glasses in which the water was served were dirty. Appetizers and entrees were okay at best, but nothing really special about them; this is a fairly simple menu after all. The salmon was fine. The desserts, however, were abominable. One of the worst crème brûlées I have ever eaten in my life. Strawberries were tasteless, and the apple tart.. No comment. The staff was friendly.... or friendly enough, but even so, overall a pretty bad experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone, unless they were absolutely desperate for anything somewhat reminiscent of French food close to Times Square. This place is definitely a tourist trap, and there are much better places to dine at in Manhattan!!! I am offended as a French person.
Great food, cozy atmosphere. Love this fabulous French restaurant.
Been to Le rivage at least 3 times over the last four years and the experiences have ranged from unspectacular to decent. Strategically located in midtown just steps away from time square and broadway , it’s a favorite of tourists and the theatre crowd. Regularly full on Wednesday’s through Friday. It has a very cozy & warm looking interior - perfectly suited for the chilly days I’ve been there .The service has been great except for the first time(4 years ago) I went there. Had the misfortune of being served by a rude waitress. The stag has since changed and they are great. No complaints thereFood is is decent but unmemorable. On the one occasion I had an appetizer, I chose the pate de campagne which was ok. My first entree was the beef Bourguignon & it’s good. I make beef bourguignon quite a bit so know a decent one where I try it. They also make it with short rib( unlike many none French restaurants)which is the right way. If you happen to go there during the winter, it’s a great choice.Today I had the Foie de Veau Petit Salé which is pan seared calf liver with onions, bacon & mashed potatoes. Liver was ok but the dish as whole was pretty mediocre. Something a home cook could put together very easily. Not worth the $26 price to be honest. The overall experience is definitely worthy of a return visit but It’s not enough for me to be back too soon.
Excellent customer service. We went post-theater. I had the burger au poivre, delicious. My companion had mussels in a saffron sauce with fries, also delicious. I recommend this place.
Hidden french restaurant with good live music, mediocre food and very pleasant service. The long and harrow hall in red colors with french rural scenes painting on the walls. The tables are small and space very limited with usual elbow contact for Manhattan restaurants. The most impressive was french-onion burger. Very interesting combination of roasted onion, cheesy souse, beef patty and english muffin (!!!).Everything else - try to avoid. Bone marrow is terrible, honestly, mussels a bit better but still, not good enough to feed yourself.
Came here before a show, my parents meeting me were late (stupid traffic) and they dont seat tables until the full party is present. They were able to accommodate us with a full meal even though we only had 45 minutes before we had to be seated. My parents loved the food and mine was pretty good, although it was a bit overly sauced. Would come here again and try more dishes
I had my birthday dinner here with my boyfriend, we enjoyed the canard a lorange a lot. The live music starts at 8 and is a great add on to the vibe. Other than the paintings on wall feels too bright and colorful that not so much with the overall ambiance to me, the whole experience is wonderful.
Delicious drinks and food. Went before our show for prix lunch
A delicious French meal on Restaurant Row. A hidden gem among the tourist trap type of restaurants in Times Square. Everything was delicious. So nice to sit outside on a late September afternoon. I could recommend the patè, the steak frites and the trout almandine! The drinks were tasty and gorgeous, served in classic coupe glasses. The creme caramel (French style flan) was a delicious dessert! Nothing but great things to say! 😍😍
Le Rivage never disappoints. The food is absolutely top notch, as is the service. If we lived closer, wed be there all the time. As it is, we make the trip into Manhattan to enjoy Le Rivage when we can, and its always an event to look forward to!
The food was ok, but expensive for what it was.The service was terrible:1) Our reservation was at 6.15pm, but we werent seated until 6.45pm. The owner was not apologetic about this although he did grudgingly offered us a glass of wine.2) The service was slow despite our need to eat quickly because of a theater show.3) When we got the check, they included the free glasses of wine offered to is earlier. When I asked for them to be removed, the manager became nasty and rude (again), insulted me, then threw twenty dollars at me.4) When I complained to the manager, rather than apologizing, he seemed to take satisfaction in having spoiled what should have been a special date for my wife and I (our first evening out since our son was born)
Decent food and kitch, throwback 60s French feel. Staff, except waiters, did not get the memo on customer service. 46th street rocks and deserves better... Easy to do in NYC .. owners need to retrain staff... And adjust menu slightly to the era
Wonderful rustic French restaurant with warm/chill ambiance.Highly recommend their expresso martini. Sarah was kind and awesome st the bar.The food was amazing.
We have been going here fir over 20 years and find ut to be the best French Restaurant in NYC. We are going tonight for my birthdayLooking forward
The best set of words that come to mind are hidden gem. In that, among Manhattan bistros, this is one of the best and yet it should be impossible to make a reservation. Steak frites, beef bourguignon, French onion soup, and the mussels were some of the best I’ve had in the city.
Love this place and it has become a Christmas tradition to come here while in the city for the holidays. The food and service are excellent and portion size ample. Pricing with a pre fixed menu is convenient. So the reason I dont give this place a 5 is the seating. For 2 people, you will be tightly packed in tables along a wall.
I guess I am that one whose review is not as good as everyone elses. I have been to many french spots and this was ok, but unremarkable. Food did not look or taste very fresh at all. I was really disappointed, as the reviews here were so good. It did not seem like a french restaurant at all.
Great all around. Service was professional and had good wine knowledge. Food was cooked well and tasty. Place was clean and well decorated.
Our go-to place for impeccable service, Great atmosphere and food. The owner greets each customer.
Delicious food and excellent service. The Coq de vin was decadent and filling and we absolutely loved our server Diego!!
An old fashioned French restaurant in a city with few left. The food is very good though a bit pricey. But if you want French food the way it used to be... Coq au Vin, Boeuf Borgognone, Mousse au Chocolat... then you cant go wrong here.
We were soooo disappointed! Our favourite hang out before the theatre has a new menu and a new prix fix. They took away the artichoke salad, added suppliments to two main dishes (shrimp mason my girlfriends favourite), and coffee. We asked the waitress and she said the owner changed the menu. We asked the manager and she said rent has gone up, talk to the owner. The table next to us complained about the salad also. We have eaten here for many years but now we are going to look for other choices.
I had the absolute Pleasure of going to Le Rivage for the first time today for Lunch. I Brought my Father with me as he first introduced me to French cuisine from his rustic french upbringing. I am so glad I did. Both him and I haven’t eaten as much as we did in a very long time but every time we got a course, we loved it so much we ordered more and more things off the menu. We started by splitting a French onion soup Burger (DO NOT PASS ON THIS) and we were off to the races! Escargot, mussels, beef bourguignon, a lamb shank special that was absolutely DIVINE. The staff were super friendly and our waiter even told us about a secret menu hack! ( Next time you get fries ask for a side of au pouvre sauce and pour it on like gravy on Disco fries… what can I say except, You’re Welcome!) We are so looking forward to the next time we will be in the city to make this our new French Dining spot!
Incredible food and service at a reasonable price.
Quaint, authentic French restaurant. Celebrate special events here. Price fixte is nice. Wait staff very attentive.
We came here with a Travelzoo voucher. Our initial waiter was so rude to us and ignored us every time we tried to all a question to the point where I was on the verge of tears and wanted to leave. On our way out the lovely hostess offered to seat us in a different section. Our waitress made up completely for the utter rudeness of her predecessor. The food was good, filet mignon was the best Ive ever tasted but my husband complained his French onion burger was just ok. The decore is intimate and romantic but the tables are quite small.
