We went to an open mic night and I have never been to a show where each comic was great. I dont know if this place previews their acts in advance but it was all worth it. They even had a guest appearance from a well know comedian. In addition, we brought a couple of 18-year-olds and they loved it too. Although you have to pay the cover charge in drinks ( that were not very good) still worth the $ spent.

They are a RIP off. $28 dollars for a shot of Jose cuervo and a modelo + $ 9.00 gratuity and $4.95 TAX. TWO DIRNKS minimum. I spend $61.67 for a $10.00 dollar for a local comedy show. They did not have any top shelf liquor. The bar tender was nice enough to let me change my cell phone at the bar while I waited for the show.

Three stars for the comedians, or else I would have given it 1 star.Pros:Great ambience, good enough food (some items aren’t as pricey so that’s a huge plus)CONS:They messed up our bill the first time and then we asked them to bring us a revised one. So finally we have the right bill and we put our cards down. THEN they bring the bill back AND THEY CHANGED ONE ITEM FROM 2 BEERS TO 3. I have NEVER faced such deception in NYC before. After we pointed out that they increased the number to 3 beers they went and got the original bill and handed us 6-7 bill slips WHICH STILL HADNT FIXED THE AMOUNT. We ended up leaving without resolving it because we gave up they were clearly doing this on purpose to cheat the customers. So please please beware and keep checking the bill if you plan to go here. Yes I saved the whole stack of messed up calculations that they did with the bills. The thing is the comic lineup was so fantastic and that’s separate from how poor the service was so now I would want to go back to another show but I wouldn’t want this same service. There’s a $20 Food/Drink minimum but it’s a pretty fancy location so I wouldn’t mind spending that if I was on a date or celebrating something.

Had an AMAZING night on Friday. Got to see 8 stellar comedians in one show, with a celebrity appearance (Ronnie from Daily Show). While it would have been nice to get a drink a bit earlier while sitting and waiting, the servers were super nice and friendly and efficient considering only 2 of them and crowded venue. The night’s flow was good, comedy excellent, vibe/ambiance perfect. Laughed a ton, so that’s what counts.

Visiting Stand Up NY on a Friday night offered a unique glimpse into the clubs valiant efforts at reinvention and its struggle to capture the essence of what makes a comedy venue thrive. Firstly, its commendable to see a venue striving for growth and pushing boundaries to rejuvenate its appeal. The ambition to revamp its identity and enhance the overall experience is palpable, marking a promising step towards redefining its place in the citys nightlife. However, its apparent there are underlying reasons why Stand Up faces challenges in drawing larger crowds, particularly on what should be one of the busiest nights of the week. While the clubs spirit of innovation is noteworthy, there seems to be a disconnect between its offerings and the expectations of its potential audience. The quality of the acts, although varied, occasionally lacks the consistency needed to keep the audience engaged throughout the evening. Comedy, after all, is an art that demands a delicate balance between innovation and relatability, something the club is still in the process of mastering. Moreover, the ambiance and service, crucial elements of the overall experience, appear to need fine-tuning. A welcoming, comfortable environment and attentive service greatly enhance the enjoyment of live comedy, making them areas where Standup could potentially improve to match the expectations of its guests. In conclusion, Standup deserves recognition for its bold attempts at transformation and for its commitment to providing a platform for comedians to showcase their talent. However, for the club to truly flourish and fill its seats, especially on Friday nights, a more focused approach might be necessary. This could include refining the selection of acts to ensure a consistently high-quality lineup, improving the overall ambiance of the club, and enhancing service standards. There is a wealth of potential waiting to be unlocked at NY Standup, and with further adjustments, it could indeed become a staple in the local entertainment .

I went here for my first ever comedy show, and I would definitely go again! The price ($25 ticket and a $18 drink minimum) was fair and we saw a number of professional comics. All of them made me laugh, but some were definitely more my speed than others. We didnt try any of the cocktails, but the staff was speedy and accommodating.

We saw Ben Palmer here (palmertrolls on TikTok) and he was so hilarious. The space itself is intimate and I don’t imagine any of the seating is bad given the size of the interior. The staff was super nice & courteous. You do need to spend a minimum of $18 on drinks which is pretty standard for a comedy club and they automatically put a tip on the tab when closing out. I’d def return for another comedian in the future

Stand Up NY is a great comedy club. They always have good lineups and I am rarely disappointed in any of the comedians. If you want to sit up front, show up an hour before the show. If you dont want to sit up front, dont show up early.Occasionally they have secret special guests. They are always big names trying out new material before going on the road and are always worth checking out.

The comics were good, not great, but good. This place was never cheap, but now its a rip off. They are cash only all of a sudden, shoved in more tables to make it even more crowded and charge an 18% service fee to an already hefty $18 food/drink minimum. I enjoyed this place once, but will not be going back. The only acceptable time to come here is if for some reason you NEED to see a comedy show on the upper west side. Otherwise, go to Comedy Cellar or do something else.

Live near this place, went in for a show tonight (Saturday) that was being taped. I’ve been to a handful of shows, some are great, some are less so. That’s life. That’s comedy. This show definitely had some awesome comedians and great acts but the guy running it was brutal. It was being taped and the host wanted us to laugh and clap on command. He was doing little hand signs, just very forced. So uncomfortable. We got our check at intermission so we could bail and the server berated us for leaving because she would need to fill the table. But we were in the far back and there were plenty of open tables. This seems like a great club, the drinks were good, the decor was decent, and I bet with other hosts on other nights it’s great, but it wasn’t tonight. If I come back and it’s different, I’ll update this but for now, two stars is the best I can do.

Decent line up of comics when I went. 2 of 5 were solid. The rest gave me a few chuckles, but no one bombed which was nice. Losing two stars based on the way seating is done. How about one less table per row so Im not sitting on the strangers lap next to me. $20 ticket plus $18 drink min. Pay all that money and you get to touch shoulders with two strangers.

I went here through a Groupon last weekend which overall was a fun night with friends. You have to make a reservation online which was fine but be sure to check off a reply so you get a confirmation email. You cannot call the venue. The comedians overall were good. Out of 5, 2 were great (one had us crying we were laughing so hard), 2 were okay and 1 was really bad. Drinks were really sweet and there is a $18 drink minimum even though we had tickets. Difficult for some of my friends who dont drink but if you get a couple beers, it was fine. Id go again if there was a good deal but a lot of stipulations that would keep me from being a regular.

This week, stand-up New York hosted my book launch for my debut memoir, and it was the most spectacular event I’ve ever been to. My guest included friends, family, and lots of people in the publishing industry, and everyone agreed that it was a next level party. The bar service and offerings were excellent, the venue was spacious and elegant and did not have a cramped comedy club style feel, the staff were helpful And the ample seating was such that everyone had a good seat of the show. I will definitely be going back to catch comedy acts but I really want to plan another party there too!

BE WARNED!!!We bought two $20 tickets from a guy in Times Square. The impression he gave us was that the club was just around the corner and that two drinks were included in the price. A misleading statement if ever there was one. It was many stops away by subway and, as we arrived early, we were told that any drinks bought in the bar would not count to our $18 each target which, of course, we knew nothing about anyway. The drinks are also priced so you have to go off the top unless you had two overpriced beers. We spent another $50 over what we had anticipated. The youthful manager seemed surprised when we left as soon as we could and looked incredulously at us when we suggested we had been misled by the (his) guy in Times Square. A regular occurrence one might think judging by the other reviews.Give it a big miss!! Oh, and the comedy was not up to much either.

Great comedy club in NYC. Been there over 10 times in past 10 years and never been disappointed. Normally out of 5 performers 3 are guaranteed to be great, the rest are new guys trying out their material. Drink menu is poor as it has no hot drinks and prices of course are getting insane. Each drink is $14 (minimum 2 per person) with 18% mandatory tip. So expect $50 per person, plus admission fee. Look fro Groupon.

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)Food: Good.Considering I ordered standard pub food: buffalo chicken wings and fries.Drinks: Great.Space: This is a very intimate comedy club (read: youll be on top of each other :)). The tables are all set up wrapping around the stage with a more lounge type setting on the elevated level towards the back. It is the perfect layout for mixing and mingling, date nights, and get-togethers. The stage is small and the comedians (new and seasoned) like getting audience participation. So regardless of where youre sitting you will be involved in the routine. :) The main entrance has a nice cozy bar where you can chat up seasoned comedians before they go up.Scene: Singles Scene. Date night. Comedy club.Crowd: 30-40s locals, tourists, and all around people that dont mine audience participation.Service: Bar staff and servers are courteous. It does get packed and service tends to slow down a little when performers are on.

I re-read some other reviews and checked it was the same place I visited last for the midnight show.We turned up early, but we were greeted warmly and staff vacated bar seats in and allowed us to sit down, we were served drinks at the bar (cheaper than the auditorium prices of course) and we chatted to the staff and manager, all very friendly. As we had turned up first, the staff member that greeted us ensured we were not in the line and we remained happily at the bar until show time. The auditorium was about half full but a good crowd all the same. As it was a late show there was plenty of language, fine by us.The compere (Luis Gomez) was very funny, the acts themselves wereRob Cantrell - fairly funnyMike Britt - HilariousJay Oakerson - Funny if you like Cringe humourNate Bargatze - quick taster set, not so funny.Overall this place is great, anyone who thinks there is a free show and not buy a couple of (not so bad for NY priced) drinks should wise up.

The show was great but I will never go back nor recommend it! The worst cocktails ever. They charge you $15 per cocktail which comes in a small cup with barely any alcohol. It was like juice. You dont taste any alcohol, you dont feel it either. (That means a lot since my limit is like 2 beer) The canned beer which was $10 did more than the cocktail. Honestly, being cheap with the amount of vodka they put in the cocktail made me more mad than the price. Smh. Also everyone should check their bills because the 18% service charge is a LIE. They charge you more than that. >:( CHECK YOUR BILLS PEOPLE!!

I liked it quite a lot and even though it was a small crowd (max 20 people) the comedians managed very well, only one bad performance which was totally understandable - comedy is a really hard and probably painful carrier choice for the most. A tourist trap with an unfair drink minimum for the quality of drinks available. Our host for the evening was rude and leaned heavily on the teenagers in the audience for his jokes. Been there three times and had a great time each time. The people that complain about the salespeople in Times Square have no one to blame but themselves. The food is brought in, and takes a while because of that fact, but it has always been tasty and is reasonably priced. The drinks on the other hand are not reasonably priced, but as other reviewers have pointed out, this is NYC, and they certainly are not outrageously priced. Think about it folks - you arent going to pay the talent based on admission! If you go to a comedy club in NYC, expect to pay for drinks! Otherwise, watch HBO, and stop whining!I recommend Stand Up NY as a really fun night out!

The comedians were overrall pretty funny, but the issue was the price for the drinks....they had messed up r bills....ppl had ordered two waters and a glass of wine and the bill was 50....some ppl ordered a water and a drink and the bill was 50....so it would have gotten a better rating if it wasnt for the issues wit ppls bill.....

Went to my first show here (I love comedy clubs) and really liked it. Venue is cozy which gives it an intimate feel without being a sticky dive either. Waiter service was on point for drinks and most importantly the comedians were all very talented! The check in and seating process is pure stressful and awkward chaos tho and should be entirely reworked.

The comedians were great but unfortunately the waiters at the location ate able to kill the atmosphere. during the show, while the comedians are in the middle of the jokes they come up to you and are asking for new orders or bringing the bill and asking to pay. They confuse the orders and you need to start argue about the bill and all of that while the comedians are performing. And once you are done you are still disturbed because you hear them discussing with the people at the table next to you because apparently they did mess up there as well.So the comedians and the show is great. but i would strongly suggest to plan in a break for the show so that the waiters can do their job then. or tell them to wait with the bill until after.

Love coming here for great laughs. They have a great mix of comics from professional to amateur. Just saw Michael Rapaport tonight and he killed it. Paul Mercurio is a recurring favorite. They offer a Laugh Pass which gives free admission to all the shows you can go to. The staff is very friendly and I encourage anyone who goes to sit by the stage for the full experience. Theres always a fun energy when the talent interacts with the crowd.

I got a special comp-ticket for a Friday 8pm show at S.U.NY. It was worth it for a nice evening of comedy. The drinks werent as pricey as some other venues. The comedian line-up was small but good overall because they had to make room for the headliner Mr. Rick Vos. The space is relatively small compared to other comedy venues still it had a good enough space for the crowd. And the basement lavatories decent & clean (though it may need better labeling for them) Ive been going to Stand Up NY for about 2 years & have always had a good experience. Thanks.

Comedians were decent, enjoyed the show. However, the $18 drink per person rule is ridiculous because the drinks are TINY. You pay $16 per drink and barely get 150 milliliters. Its truly ridiculous. Just raise the prices for the tickets and sell normal-sized drinks for normal prices. The way it is right now is just an annoying way of making the tickets $20 more expensive.Other comedy clubs in the city can do it, so you can as well.

I’m not writing this review for customers as much as I am for the venue. I’ve been a long time stand up ny fan. I go to comedy shows all over the city but stand up ny has been my “home” club. During covid I was delighted by the outdoor shows and went multiple times. Lately I’ve been surprised how awful the talent has been. The shows are so cringe and people are laughing out of pity. It feels like they can’t fill the time slots so they just get any volunteers who want a break. This happened in the beginning of the summer but I gave it another chance last weekend and there were 11 people in the audience. The show wasn’t tolerable but I stayed out of respect. I don’t know why the club has gone from amazing to this. I know they fill the venue when it’s a “special” guest but for their daily/ weekly shows they can’t continue like this. I want to see the club thrive and come back to its “glory” days so I’ll keep supporting but it’s truly embarrassing to watch their shows lately. Good luck!

We went to the late show dark and dirty understand it will be inappropriate if you come to the late show, if you dont like dark comedy come to an earlier show, drinks at the bar beforehand do not count towards that. There is a two drink minimum in the show, everyone will make sure youre aware before you go in so theres no confusion. Highly recommend you come here, well definitely be back next time were in the city

I walked in on a late Saturday night to grab a seat on my own. Theres a two-drink minimum, which is enough to keep you satiated during the comedy showcase. Comedians should not waste their energy performing here. Although I enjoyed 5 out of the 7 comedians, that cannot bump this review up a single star. You should all perform at a place that takes pride in themselves. There is a ludicrous $18 drink minimum on top of paying for the show. The only way to get out of this exemption is if youre under 21. I asked if I could purchase $18 worth of food instead since I do not drink (plus I drove); however, the waiter simply stated that food does not count towards the minimum, with the implication being I either buy a drink or get out. Thankfully there were patrons willing to drink my share. When I caved to order waffle fries ($9), the waiter informed me that it would take around 20 minutes. 40 minutes passed, and the waiter brought what appeared to be waffle fries from the diner next door, complete with the to-go tin container and packets of ketchup. When it came time to pay the bill my friend and I discovered we were overcharged due to a failure to meet the minimum, which was not the case at all. After yet another back and forth with the waiter, we were given the correct bill with the $22 overcharge subtracted from the bill. Not exactly a minor oversight. The fact that a sizable number of people left before the checks came was telling, and in hindsight, I should have not paid either. The least I could do now is warn people of my experience so they may make their own judgments.

This is an intimate venue, we went on a Monday for the early show (8PM). There was lots of crowd interaction for the ~15 people in the audience. The host Emad and other comedians got a lot of good laughs from us. They also read the crowd and changed jokes accordingly. Hilarious! Went to the unwashed comedy show. Was a little nervous with some of the reviews being so negative--but was not disappointed. All of the comedians were funny. Yes the drinks were expensive--but NYC is expensive in general, so not a surprise. Plus as soon as you check in, when the waitress comes to say hi, AND when the MC/host comes on the stage, they make it every clear there is a 2 drink ($18) min per person. Its also written In multiple locations (along with the fact that tax isnt included on the menus and an 18% service charge is put in your tab). These angry people just must not be literate or just plain old grumpy. I quite enjoyed myself, along with the rest of the audience. Highly recommended. 👌Note: Im a real person and was not paid or endorsed (or what not) to write this review. Genuinely funny. :)
