Matto, nestled near Washington Square Park, is a delightful haven for coffee aficionados. The staff are wonderfully welcoming, adding a personal touch to every visit. But the true marvel is their iced latte. In an expensive city like Manhattan, finding such a high-quality, deliciously crafted latte for less than $4 is nothing short of miraculous. This affordable luxury amidst the city bustle makes Matto an absolute must-visit for any coffee lover. Dont miss out on this extraordinary value!
Matto is the equivalent of a 99¢ for bakeries. Everything is $2.00. Whenever I don’t feel like paying $5 for an almond croissant, Matto is my go-to bakery in manhattan. They do espresso beverages and have fresh pastries 🥮 only for $2. What’s not to love!!!
A friendly small spot for cheap drinks and bites/ light meals. The team at this location creates a welcoming environment. I had cappuccino and the double chocolate cookie.Cappuccino tasted good, but I hope the foamed milk could be more creamy. And for the cookie, taste was ok but the texture was interesting.. not hard or soft but chewy and a little bit sticky.
Dirty Chia later was delicious but the very friendly, Queen of Hospitality, Adina served us and was SO nice and fun to talk to! Highly recommmed!
For $2.75 in FiDi, the food isn’t bad. I don’t really like their pastries but almond croissant is the most popular.
I had a very tasty croissant with almonds. simply delicious. Unfortunately, the Earl Gray tea was just a simple tea bag - to be honest, I was a bit disappointed. I had expected a higher quality of the Earl Gray tea.
Excellent Iced Coffee and tea. Everything was surprisingly cheap. Great quality, will absolutely return
Came here and received a stale and rock hard croissant. The cashier doesn’t call the next guest on line, so often times people stand around waiting for her to appear ready to take their order causing unnecessary delays. Small issues that can lead to unpleasant experience. I’m sure they can improve, but was disappointing to arrive at work shortly after my visit only to have a stone croissant that was probably old.

I come here often during my lunch break and the food and beverage choices are very good and reasonably priced. The potato bureka is very yummy and filling. Almost every week I see different staff (probably because its a student area) but everyone who works there is very nice and hardworking. The whole experience of ordering and picking up is very fast. My one qualm is the state of the seating area - there is no covering so when it is drizzling or raining enjoying your snack there is not really an option.
Great coffee, delicious gluten free vegan donuts, quick service. And everything in the store is $2.
Cold brew black was slightly bitter and simple chocolate profile, but not bad at all. It was actually strong and tasted like cold brew should rather than watery, like some even specialty shops serve it, while trying to reduce the costs. If you add milk or sugar - should be amazing.Definitely not La Cabra, but hey it’s $2.50 and efficient. Recommend.(Have not tried espresso based drinks though)
My Washington Square Park historian and photographer buddy Nick and I had forgotten how much we adored Motto, one of our favorite coffee spots both before and during COVID. The simple pleasantries, like having a staff behind the counter who genuinely love what they do and joke with you every time you walk in, are what make it special. I absolutely love this place, and the coffee is always delicious.
Was walking off the M1 to Wash and needed some caffeine, walked into Matto’s Espresso and was immediately greeted by a sweet barista. I was able to ask her what I wanted and she was kind enough to help me out! Adorable coffee shop perfect for grabbing coffee to go to Washington square park, with kind staff, lovely music playing, yummy pastries and oat milk cortados that hit the spot! Really glad I stumbled upon this place :)
Ordered a hot coffee the morning of Oct. 10 and was served a lukewarm warm cup that became cold as soon as I walked out. Very disappointing, esp when there were no other customers.
The coffee and pastries are great. The service is amazing. You can place order through the app and pick up in no time. Did I mention that everything is $2-2.50 (in-store). We need more Matto locations in nyc.
I love this place to death. Been to several locations in NYC. Extremely cheap snacks that are baked and made fresh each day, some if which are healthier and/or vegan. Incredible place I hope they don’t change. Get there early if you want more selection- they sell out fast!
Little shop on the outskirts of Washington square park. Definitely a grab and go cafe, although the mirrors do help the space feel larger. Chai latte was lovely. Thet have a TON of pastries (including vegan & gluten-free options) and a couple more packaged items in the back.
Trash coffee, barista is not skilled. My latte that supposed to have quad shot tastes like straight milk. Had to throw it away :/
I love this place! Baked goods varies. They can put an intense amount of sesame seeds on some items, but when they dont they are perfect. Coffee is always consistently delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable!
First time coming here (mercer) and i got an iced oat matcha latte and the vegan almond blueberry muffin. they put almond milk instead of oat even though i clarified multiple times, but that’s okay i don’t mind too much, just noted that. they may be stressed bc it’s like a very busy area with so many nyu students. the muffin was decent but i’m definitely trying the potato bureka and the iced strawberry rose latte next time (bc i can’t not come back the prices are so good and the logo is beautiful)
The coffee taste like hot water with old coffee grind that’s been sitting out for too long. It was an asian girl who made it. Very bad coffee!
GF chocolate cookie is so good! Great little place with friendly faces, perfect amount of quality bakery selections, good coffee, and all for $2. Going back again today.
The best nook in NYC ! The Spinach bourekas is incredible. Half the time i just go for that and end up getting coffee. their coffee is pretty spot on too! never burnt and just perfect. Puts Starbucks to shame.
If youre tired of paying $5 for a hipster cappuccino youve found the right place. Great coffee and everything is $2, no matter what you order. Keep in mind theres a $4 minimum for credit cards.
Ordinarily, I don’t leave reviews, whether positive or negative, but after my experience today I felt obligated. Went in for a coffee and a Bureka and the man who served me was an absolute gentleman- friendly, quick, attention to details, and precise with my order, I can go on. It’s the subtleties in service that keep me coming back and I sure will be at Matto.
Love the coffee here. affordable & delicious!! but milk shake is a bit off tho.
The best cheap high quality coffee place in the neighborhood
Very decent coffee for the price. Make sure to purchase off the app which is cheaper than ordering inside the store. Barista was really friendly and welcoming as well. Chocolate chip cookie was excellent
Love it! 2$ everything for breakfast. I suggest trying something different everyday. Its all so good . I love the oatmeal . Service is nice and quick always someone in there though .
Nice place , good coffee ☕️
Matto in Mercer Street is my goto for coffee, drinks, and other bakeries! Wonderful staffs. Everything on Matto app is for just $2, isnt amazing!!
The coffee i got here tastes burnt. Idk if its from the beans or the prep but ive had a million cups of coffee and this is burned. Staff is nice though and it was cheap plus there are many positive reviews so ill give it another try in the near future n update if its better.
I really love this place. Everything is $2 and the shop itself is really cute. The staff is nice, although I feel theyre regularly understaffed for the amount of customers they have.
This place is AMAZING! Great coffee and treats. The people that work there are so nice, makes me want to visit everyday!
A variety of selection for pastries and Iced latte was delish! Seating is not available inside- only 3 tables outside
No bad things to say about Matti. I’ve been to 3 different locations now and all are equally good. Everything is $2 and they used quality ingredients and products. No complaints!
Easy to miss tiny store off a side street. They sell pastries, half sandwiches and coffee/espresso. Good selection of vegetarian options. Everything for $2 +tax. Great place for a quick breakfast or small lunch (no seating, it’s a very small shop).edit 3/2020They have since added a coffee menu, and their food has always been clearly labeled so ordering is now even easier. Ive been coming here regularly for a year now and the service has always been quick and courteous. Their food is consistently good. I highly recommend the cheese burekas.
I can’t recommend this place enough. Everything is $2. You’d think that for that price they would compromise on quality but they don’t. Their food is delicious. I’m in love with their ice coffee, especially on a hot summer day in NYC. It doesn’t matter which location you go to, their staff is great and very friendly. Try their Vegan Lemon doughnut! They have so many locations that you can always get your coffee fix no matter where you are.
Love how everything is so cheap! Hot chocolate was super super thick chocolate though, couldn’t really drink it, more like a dessert
THIS COFFE AINT RIGHT ITS TOO SMALL I DRANK 3 CUPS JUST TO FET ENOUGH MY FINGES FEEL BAD NOW
Great and cheap cafe! The cappuccino had too much milk, but other that that we liked the place
$2 everything is amazing, especially when it is delicious and happens to be vegetarian + gluten free : )
Love this place. Love the novel pricing schema. Ive been coming here consistently for years.
Everything is $2.50. Great little place for coffee/tea and pastries.
Love the Latte. And the avocado croissant... Delightful. Ill definitely be back
They have great coffee, and sometimes everything in the store will only be $2!
You can get a bodega coffee to taste better. At least it was $2.50…
I ordered the blended banana latte based on the reviews I read. It was very good! I’m just not sure how much caffeine they put in it. What impressed me the most was the price. A banana oat milk latte was less than $4. With a vanilla latte it was less than $8. This is typically the price for one latte at most other coffee shops!
Quality is kinda low but prices are better ☺️
Cheap, great, all you could need or want from a coffee place.
Good coffee, efficient service & lovely outdoor seating.
The oat milk in the latte is not fresh
Best coffee shop in New York with the most reasonable price, great quality coffee and welcoming staff. Try their banana oat latte and you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The variety of pastries as well as drinks are wonderful and well priced. Although it was bit hard to locate (due to the scaffolding) look for the street stand sign. Go straight under the scaffold. A true gem for nearby university students like myself. Use their app! Its much convenient for regulars (pay advance, pick up later). Will be back when college season begins!!
Their decaf espresso grinder is broken, and they seem to have no plans to fix it any time soon.
Amazing Experience! This is my go to place for my morning coffee. 2 dollars for any item when using the app, cant beat it! The are aways super quick and efficient!
Such a warm, inviting, and friendly atmosphere. Lovely staff and delicious pastries and coffee!
For the price, this chain is great. Their burek are as good as the ones youd get in a similar cafe or a Whole Foods, and at a third the price. Tasty desserts, too.
Friendly people who work here and delicious pastries.
Incredible coffee. Regular customer as a NYU student.
The chocolate chip cookies are so delicious!! Great energy and happy vibes in there, will be back soon.
They are the best! Good quality coffee and snacks for affordable price. :)
Has good WiFi, I took work calls there. normal matto menu, on a quiet street, and probably the friendliest matto staff I’ve ever interacted with
Really cheap, perfect for students
Great matcha lattes . Great service and best of all, reasonable priced!Go here!
Best thing in town beats chain places out the door
Everything is $2! Used to frequent this place in my NYU days. Highly recommend any of the pastries and grab and go items, however, the coffee is subpar (but at $2 you might as well).
Great coffee and treats for the price. Got a cortado that perfectly hit the spot. Friendly staff!
It was my first time there. I absolutely loved it.
Good and quite inexpensive coffee and pastries. But limited seating area.
$2 for everything and its all good! Yummy treats and there are healthy options, too.
The best dam $2 I have ever spent
Delicious coffee and croissant, can’t beat that price anywhere. Go for it !!
Great drinks! Their staff are always nice and welcoming!
One of my favorite places. To go to.
Not a very good tasting coffee ☕️
Try the banana date cold latte blended
Okay. Not the best coffee. But priced accordingly, significantly lower than typical prices.
Everything is $2 and the products are delicious!
Delicious coffee, friendly prices and customer service !!!
Very bitter burnt tasting coffee. Not for the coffee lover.Had a macchiato.
