When I visit the place, it looks like a regular bar with a good drinks. I order a bottle of red wine and it cost like arouns $60. Well foe that price the wine were pretty decent, and up untill 9.30 pm suddenly Harlem Slim comes. It was cool with his resonator guitar, the night become lively the bar becomes crowded. Cool! The only downside? There is little choice of snacks.
The menu featured an extensive selection of drinks with a small offering of food. Surprisingly, the hot dog was quite large and came with a side of chips. The drink options were plentiful and delightful. We tried daiquiris, which are somewhat similar to gimlets, along with a Paper Plane and a Hotel Nacional. Every drink was well-crafted, balanced, and delicious. The atmosphere was fantastic, with live music starting around 7 PM, adding to the vibe without being too loud. To top it off, our server provided excellent service.
Fun little Jazz club inside a trendy art deco hotel bldg. Seating is cramped. Very cool vibe. Dimly lit. I thought it had a French feel to it.
Extensive drinks menu with a tiny bit of food, the hot dog was actually very big and we got chips on the side, there are so many delicious options for drinks. We had daquiris which is similar to a gimlet (it’s not the frozen ones you might think of) a paper plane, hotel national and it was all well balanced and delicious, great vibe, they started live music at around 7 and that was nice and not too loud, our server was also fantastic
Nice selection tasty taco. They have a taco Tuesday deal as well so bonus if that’s the day you stop by. 10 beers on tap and super highly rated margaritas. Our server was friendly and helpful.
During a business trip to NYC, I stopped by The Rum House alone for a nightcap. Tucked away near Times Square, it exudes a cozy and discreet charm, often praised as a hidden treasure. The live jazz, expertly crafted cocktails, and inviting ambiance left a strong impression. I recommend trying an Aviation, or for something off-menu, the Painkiller is a fantastic choice. Despite the bustling area, the service was outstanding. I’m already looking forward to returning for another round of drinks at The Rum House!
Maybe it’s a hidden gem right out in the open. So convenient to anyone in Times Square, and worth the trip if you’re further away. Christiano is professional and a Sir! He absolutely made our visit there! Can’t wait to return!!
I came here solo for a nightcap during a business trip to NYC. The Rum House feels intimate and private, a hidden gem as many have mentioned, right by Times Square. I was impressed by the live jazz, the quality of the cocktails, and the warm décor. Try an Aviation or if you’re ordering off the menu, the Painkiller does just the trick. Service was excellent given how busy the location is. I look forward to the next time I can enjoy a libation or two at The Rum House again!
I came just for a quick drink before going back home, but the atmosphere and vibe were too good to just bounce. This is really a hidden gem for me. The bartender that took care of me was super skilled and mixed my drink to perfection. Im definitely coming back for more drinks!!! 🥰🥰🤤
Be adviced, this is NOT a cigar lounge, which is what I looked for in google. Now, the place is not bad but noting special neither. Tables and space is small. They didnt want to sit me in a table because I was by myself and I spend more than 6 tables there in an hour
A jazz bar that is under the hotel Edison. It has a crowded and beautiful environment. The band that plays music is really good. I think the security at the entrance could be a little more polite.
Me and a group of my friends had the pleasure to visit The Rum House. We are staying at the Hotel Edison to celebrate one of my friends birthday. To get our evening started we decided to stop by The Rum House to get drinks. That was the absolute worst decision. The birthday girl ordered her drink. The bar tender made her drink told her the total and she paid him. As I went to order my drink. He precedes to say. If you guys are not going to tip like your friend didnt. We can or cant be cool. 1st of all that was very inappropriate. Stereo typing at it finest. Trying to be respectful and not cause a seen. We talked to someone who said he was then said he wasnt the manager. He showed no compassion. Everything about that situation was such a disappointment. Im not stopping here. This is just the beginning until the owner reaches out. Unsatisfied customer.
Love this place as a good to. The drinks are exceptional and worth the price. Bartenders were great, however, waitress may have been having an off night.. Live music started at 9:30p on Wednesday. All and all, a great cocktail bar.
A very lovely bar with live music after 9:30pm.No need for reservations.I ordered Tortuga and Old Fashioned with El Dorado 5yr. Love them both. The bartender is super friendly and makes great cocktails. In the neighborhood I think its the best place for cocktails.
The room is dark and sexy. The 3 person band was outstanding. The rum based cocktail menu was also outstanding.Dont go hungry... There are minimal food options.
We got here around 8:30/8:45pm on a Saturday and were the first to sit at the small tables. By 9:30 it was packed. The drinks were good and service was personable. Definitely loved the vibe.
This could have been a great bar until we had a seemingly racist interaction with one of the bar tenders. This bar has good cocktails, great live music, and is better than the other generic pubs in the area. Unfortunately, that was all tainted by our interaction with one of the bar tenders. We were a group of five, four of us being white and one of us is Arab. Beyond being a rude way to talk to anyone, the only reason we could think of him treating our friend differently compared to how he talked to us was because we’re white and he’s not. And we all noticed it when it happened, it wasn’t subtle. So unfortunately, we won’t be coming to this bar again. It has so much going for it as a bar, so it’s a shame.
Loved it here. Great ambience and atmosphere. Phenomenal band (mimi & the podd Brothers) playing last night. The drinks were phenomenal. Pricey but understandable. I loved the cocktail Star F**cker so good I got 2 of them.Place was very tight though, they need to expand it. Its nice if youre sitting & comfortable(which i was), but many people were standing & hoping for a place to sit. Also the bathroom is in the hotel, so you have to leave the place to use restroom.Overall Highly recommend. Great night.
Great atmosphere for a casual night of light jazz music. Bartender is solid, drinks are good. Its very crowded so itll be a little confusing and intimidating for new patrons, just make yourself comfortable.
Just go. Thank me later - Authentic Old Manhattan - What a GEM!As a Canadian who has been to New York almost a dozen times over the years, I have certainly developed a love for my favourite hot spots in the city. I JUST discovered The Rum House last Sunday night (September 24, 2023) along with my best friend (who found the place on google), and WOW were we ever surprised. I can say with certainty that this was likely my most favourite night Ive ever spent in Manhattan, EVER. George and his band sang straight to my heart with all the classic songs youd expect out of a vintage New York in the 40s, 50s and 60s. I sang my heart out without a care in the world while George stayed classy and hit every note as though he was Sinatras, Martins and Armstrongs living spirits! The drinks were great, the people were from all over the world, the staff was friendly and professional and the entire experience was a thrill. My heart needed that night, thank you for delivering. I will be back! Well done!Marcie.
Romantic and charming wood paneled Casa Blanca kind of bar featuring Rum drinks. (Although they have a full bar). Food is expensive nibbles... $6 popcorn and $8 pretzels... dont bother. Location near times square and atmosphere are stellar.
Apparently you can just seat yourself when you walk in (there’s no one to seat you). There was a good variety of rum based drinks, out of which I liked my Edison cocktail. Live music started at 9:30pm. The seats are full by then so I’d recommend coming earlier to ensure a seat on a Friday night.
Great place to end your evening in the heart of Manhattan! The bar is bursting with character, has a great atmosphere + the cocktails are expertly made! The staff were really helpful giving us advise on what to order and they had an amazing Jazz Band playing for the duration of our stayThanks for everything! We are happy to have this on our list of favourites and will openly encourage friends and family to check it out!
Gorgeous place, excellent location, lovely staff.. The drinks were on point. Vibe was classy and calm. Located just near time square. Happy hour available but with limited good options.
The Rum House was my favorite place out of my entire trip! We went here on our first night and no other place could compare. First of all the service was amazing. Rene went above and beyond! The drinks were delicious and strong! Then the live music was just the cherry on top. I would give more than 5 stars if I could. If youre around the Time Square area, this place is A MUST stop! 🧡
Renee - the most awesome Rum House Manager was absolutely amazing ! He made our experience wonderful and memorable ! His energy was great ! The drinks was fabulous , the popcorn the best popcorn ever and the Jazz music amazing ! Seriously best popcorn I’ve ever had anywhere !Highly recommend this wonderful bar connected to the Edison Hotel !Thanks for an amazing time ! Georgiana - White Fire Rose 🌹
For me it is one of the best cocktail places. If you are are rum cocktail lover, of course this is your place. Well done cocktail. Low lights. Low music. Even perfect if you want to go alone. Try to sit at the bar because you will see all the bartenders skill and you will always have a nice talk. They also have cocktail with other kind of spirits, but if you are at The Rum House, you should try some Rum Cocktails
Love the RUM House. Its a staple in the NYC community. From amazing live music to tasty drinks!!! Go!! Its a must before a show, after a show or just because!!!
Our favorite cocktail bar of the trip!Every drink was unique and the waiter helped us choose exactly what we wanted. The live music was incredible, don’t miss it if you visit!
We stopped in for a cocktail before a show. This place has great ambience. Lots of wood, red leather, and low lighting. The service was great. Our server was attentive and prompt. If you like your drinks strong this is a good place for you. I thought the alcohol overshadowed the flavor of the rest of the ingredients but thats a personal preference. Overall, a cool place to hang out.
Terrific cocktails and a phenomenal jazz quartet....I really couldnt get over how talented the musicians were on a random Sunday night. The piano needs to be tuned, though, but that certainly isnt on the musicians who were truly professionals.
Great drinks and great atmosphere. The service was really great. We had a nice chill time here while waiting for our Broadway show. Highly recommended but no one below 21 yrs old.
I enjoyed great drink and jazz on my last night of NY.Just one drunk customers behaviour made me upset. Please do not drink too much, respect bartenders and other customers :)
We are just back from a holiday in New York and every night we went to the Rum House. We loved everything about this little gem. Especially the lovely staff - the waitress Caroline was soooooo helpful and kind and we just loved John the doorman (watch your step). They were so lovely to us both and made our holiday. We always sat by the window and just people watched while the band and singers were playing. We would give it more stars if we could. ❤️
Great live music. Great service. Great ambiance. Aside from the tourists, its a great spot to stop in, if youre passing through the theater district.
One of my must-do on my first trip to NYC was to listen to jazz at a jazz lounge or club. The Rum House totally matched my expectation of a cozy jazz lounge. Very comfortable and intimate.
Amazingly chill vibe with retro lighting, friendly staff, live jazz in the background, and the best rum on planet earth. If youre looking for a cool oasis in the middle of Time Squares sensory overload, this is the place.
Very upscale and refined drinks in a place you would think only does volume, but it was a surprise how great the bartenders are in making a high quality drink. Highly recommend!
Nice atmosphere for post-work drinks. Decent selection. Great cocktails and a good Happy Hour but no reservations possible. Also handy for post-theatre drinks. Friendly service
Great live jazz and r&b music in the evening. We ordered a hot toddy on a cold day and it was the perfect mix. Not too heavy on the alcohol. We also ordered the popcorn while we listened to the music and surprisingly, that tasted out of this world good 😁
Husband and I were so excited to revisit The Rum House for the second time as we had a nice experience back in April. (We are residents of NY but not of NYC mind you. We live 3 hours away.)Picture it’s HOT outside mid summer in NYC.We pull up to the rum house and are nastily greeted by the bouncer telling my husband, “You’re going to have to dress nicer than that for a Saturday night. At least a pair of jeans.”And when we tried telling him we didn’t live here to just go home and change he literally ignored us as if we weren’t talking to him.(I’ve included a pic so you can see what we were wearing.)ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE on your website that says Saturdays have a dress code. And no he wasn’t wearing jeans in the middle of summer. My husband also wasn’t dressed inappropriately for a bar at 11pm anyways which really doesn’t make sense to me. I am EXTREMELY disappointed and we will not be going back.Get a new doorman bc he’s making you lose customers🤡Btw for the record I am fully aware that rules are rules. Although that man had no right to be as rude as he was to my husband. Point blank period. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.
If you like rum, this is the place for you! The place is small and fills up fast but the service is still good. Live music was great....and we went on a Wednesday night!
The drinks, the hot dogs and the bartender… all 5 stars … definitely a great place to add to your nyc list ! Enjoy 😉
Bar staff were great, drinks amazing. We went at Happy Hour and the three cocktails on offer were all incredible.
I think this is one of Manhattan best kept secret spots. Small jazz bar with a good selection of cocktails and with live music.Been to couple of jazz clubs in London and they tend to charge a cover for just getting in. Here entry is free, spaces are tight but the atmosphere feels authentic.Cocktails are good size and packed with flavour. The live band was amazing and they were so close that it felt as hey are singing just to you.Cant recommend enough!
Love the energy and the people here. The waitress girl is giving nyc vibe so much hehehehe “SLAYYYYUU GURL”. The drinks here are affordable for nyc vibe and the jazz music was sooooooooo worth it. This bar makes me love nyc even more huhu🫶
If you want great live jazz and a delicious rum drink this is definitely the place to go! The bartenders and servers here are also amazing and the drinks are good and strong.
Delicious rum based cocktails crafted in a nice and cozy old school bar environment. Friendly staff and quick service.
Great rum and other spirits drinks. The live jazz music was pretty awesome.
Intimate cocktail bar with excellent music and service. Four stars just because its in the heart of the theater district and there are tons of tourists. But worth a drink or two!
The place had a nice vibe but the server was pretty rude. Took my drink before Id even finished it. This was my second time here and I wouldnt return. The drink was okay.
We were here on a Monday night so it wasn’t packed and we got seated right away. We were pleasantly surprised by the live music which we didn’t anticipate. The drinks were good and the service was very friendly. There’s no real food just snacks like popcorn and warm pretzels but it’s still a great place to sit down and have a few drinks.
Live jazz, great drinks, a little haven amongst the chaos that is Times Square. I’ve been going for years and I always want to go back.
Great atmosphere and very nice to have quality live music.I dont like being expected to buy a drink and stand in the middle of a room with no bar or table. Id rather they just said it was full.Popcorn was stale, also a 20% tip is automatically added to your bill and they still seem to expect an additional service charge.
Excellent rum-based cocktails & selection. Busy until 7pm, afterwards much quieter.
Bouncer was extremely rude telling me I can’t enter the establishment because “I have to dress a little better than that on a Saturday night”. I was wearing shorts and a T shirt on a 85+ degree day in June. If there’s a dress code required for entry it should say so on the website so people don’t waste their time paying for Ubers or walking just to be denied Ridley.
Great experience and I had an amazing cocktail. Didnt get to try the food.
What a great place for a happy hour or after show drinks!! Music was spot on and made us feel like we were back in the 40’s listening to big band jazz!! Drinks are out of this world and service better than anywhere else in the city… highly recommended and must come see for yourself.
Tried this place out on a Tuesday night and it was the perfect end to a workday! A true 20svibe setting with pleasantly nice ppl enjoying cocktails and snacks.I had the pineapple daiquiri and the hotel nancial cocktail each for $18 a piece and really strong but great tasting selections (all recco from the bartender).Even to my surprise there was a 4 piece band that started at 9:30 that kept the vibes immaculate the whole way through. Def recommend trying this place out for a simple, yet sophisticated vibe in Times Square/theater district.
Second night in a row. Great jazz and vibe, with dark wood walls and tile floor. Nick makes the best Old Fashion in NYC! All staff are friendly and welcoming.
Last Friday 12 th October I went to The Rum House with a friend . The cocktails and atmosphere were good. We thought it was a good place to stay a bit longer and get another round, but after a very long day we were desperate to sit down. We finally got a seat and a member of staff ( a blonde woman wearing blazer ) told me to get up as the table was reserved. There was no reserved sign on the table . I was under the impression the bar had a no reserve rule. I didn’t want to argue so I got up … but no one sat , some seconds later , a couple who just turned up and had their fresh cocktails sat on the seats I was told to leave . I just have to laugh and I joked with the couple saying that she must like them more than us. I saw a free table next to that one so we sat … a few seconds later the woman’s comes back and tells me to get up again . When I asked her why she said “ I told you already this table is reserved “ so I said : “ reserved for who ??? This one was also reserved according to you and this couple just sat down after you told me to get up !” At this point my friend wanted to leave out of embarrassment. I left the table but I refused to leave , but I didn’t not spend another dollar .Luckily the couple who took the table turned out to be very friendly and invited us to join them. We had a great time , but not thanks to the bizarre and rude behavior of this woman .Will I go back ? Nope. I don’t like being treated second class, nobody does.
One of my favorite cocktail bars, however be warned it is very very loud when they have loud music. If you are planning to get a cocktail and have a conversation with your company, choose somewhere else. Cocktails are good, the service is good, and although the music is loud, it’s always fun.
Excellent cocktails and impressive rum selection. drinks were a bit small but very well made and the atmosphere was great—old time jazz band gave a great vintage feel
My wife and I had an amazing time at the Rum House. They had a live band and singer who gave fantastic ambiance. Christian and Renee did a great job taking care of us with excellent service. The selection of rum was great and the cocktails were fantastic. We will be back our next time in NY.
Can’t beat their happy hour and choices of rum!! Service is also excellent. My to go spot to get happy hour daquiri! My husband is a rum aficionado, and he really likes their collection and their recommendations!
Cosy space with great live jazz and yummy cocktails in the theatre district. We came here on a cold, wet day after a matinee and the hot buttered rum was perfect.
This is a neat spot to check out if you like rum. The bartenders did a great job recommending and making different drinks to try while we were there. Only downside here is that its a small place and will most likely be packed any time you go. Its a nice hangout and I would return.
Our group of 3 came in after a broadway show for drinks - we had a great time catching up - listening to live music and sipping delicious cocktails (the barracuda was my personal favourite)Our server Ella, the sixth star of this review, was ever attentive if we needed a top up or a recommendation and really elevated the experienceHope to visit again soon.
Love to visit the Rum House!! Great service
We uncovered a hidden gem while in NYC! Awesome spot with great drinks...Chris Gaspar is the BEST!!! And love jazz on Sunday afternoon!
The owner/manager tried to charge us over $ 200.00 for 2 glasses of rum that the bottle sells for around $ 70.00 in NYC ( less if you get it at duty free on your way back from Barbados)I think he thought we were tourists and didnt know better.Called him on it and he reversed the charges, but really!Dear Kenneth for your well written note--our mistake- my wife and I would like to apologize.
Love this place. So much. The staff was amazing. The drinks were fantastic. And the live music kept us wanting to stay longer! Will be back soon.
Swanky little bar with fantastic live music and delicious rum cocktails!
The bouncer slapped my friend’s hand when she tried to take her id back? I get that he wasnt done looking but why behave so rudely? Then the bartender checked my friend’s id again and the bar for some reason.1 of three of us wasn’t drinking tonight and the bartender pressured her into ordering something.Just didn’t seem like we weren’t wanted in there idk if because we were much younger crowd than the people in there or it was racial.
Good drinks and live band at 9.30 pm. There is no seat available if you do not get there sooner than 9.30.
Unacceptable service. The host asked us to wait to prepare a table for us, and went around to straighten chairs and tables, which were available, while we were waiting. Our drinks took too long to arrive both times. The server did not check on us, and when we called him to order the second round, he only nodded, without saying a word. When the live music started, they offered popcorn to tables around us but not to us and a few more tables. I approached the host to ask where is the restroom, and after finishing another task he turned to me and rudely said talk to me. It is too bad, because the drinks were great, the space and ambience are nice, and the live music was very good too, but I would never go back.
Its such a cool bar. Once you head inside you almost feel like youre going back to a bar in the 1940s. Everything has a beautiful wood colored furnishing. The staff are kind yet professional. And they allow live music. It can get busy so try and catch a seat before the crowd shows up late at night. Honestly, if you like rum I would consider this a perfect bar.
Cute little place for a drink. They have live music at weekends evenings
In the area so we popped in for a quick drink! Awesome people, perfect drink and super chill vibe. Will go back when we’re in the area again! Thank you Rum House
Wanted to end our night, at our hotel, on our first night at NYC!!! We were treated horribly!! After we received a subpar drink we asked for a beer to keep it safe, and were laughed at with rolled eyes. The manager John, on police patrol, was also very rude... we were just there to end our night with a good time, but the service made us feel like a burden ☹️
A must go!! The jazz is beautiful and the atmosphere is so lively and inviting!
Had my first Hotel Nationale at the Rum House and no couldn’t stop at one.
Went during happy hour (4-6p). Was seated immediately. Gives off a speakeasy vibe but when they turned the music on at 6p it gets kinda nosey! Ordered the rum punch and hot buttered rum off the happy hour menu! Both were delicious! The buttered rum was very rich and unique. I liked the punch sweetness - it wasn’t overly sweetened.I had a great experience and would def come back
Nice old school ambiance, great performance and unique cocktails. Loved their specialty drinks star fu**er and the parisienne.
Very nice bar attached to the hotel Edison in Times Square. The atmosphere and Ambiance is very nice. Live music on weekends. Piano and other instruments. Bartender was great (see pictures no glasses). Drank scotch all night, but very entertaining watching him make mixed drinks for people. Talent.
Troy makes the best Star F@!*ers ever!!! Love this place, great vibe, music, drinks, popcorn and SERVICE!!!
Great cocktails, brilliant atmosphere. Shame about the scaffolding at the front. Lived the jazz band.
Awesome bar. This is the second time we came her before a show. We come to NYC once or twice a year and this place has become one of our favorites. The bartenders are responsive and make excellent drinks. The manager remembered us from last time and made sure he found us spot at the bar. Definitely a nice spot for a great cocktail and fabulous music.
I’ve been looking for a place like this for a very long time. Cozy jazz bar with dimmed lights, great live music and solid cocktails. I’m definitely telling all my friends about this Time Square hidden gem.
The best bar in town, live music every evening, great cocktails, and Troy the bartender is a legend!
TLDR: disgustingly rude manager! Not worth goingBased on reviews we were excited to go here. Waited in queue for a few minutes. Scouted for a table or seats at the bar. Eventually found a table and sat down. It wasn’t just us… many groups of people were searching. Two even asked if they could join us. We had no issues. Plenty of room.Walks in rude manager, seemingly without reason, asked my party to vacate our table abruptly. Not only was this done in a rude manner, but to add insult to injury, the table was promptly given to another group of 4 men who had just walked in!Feeling disrespected and frustrated, we opted to leave the establishment without even having the chance to place an order. What’s the point of going to a place that doesn’t have a welcoming atmosphere. The bouncer at the entrance apologized but what’s the point. This is NYC! Such places are aplenty! I’ll take my business and order food and drinks away at a place that values its guests!
Wanted to have a few drinks while listening to live music during my weekend trip to New York City. Arrived around 8p on a Friday night without reservations and was able to get a table right away. This worked out perfectly as the night went on, the longer the line was and was down the street by the time I left. Its a small, intimate cocktail bar so the tables are very close to one another, but everyone is in their own world. Also, with the natural crowd noise and then the music, you couldnt hear anything at the next table anyway. Enjoyed a few small bites from the popcorn, peanuts, and olives with the drinks. Everything sounded so good, so ordered a wide-range of cocktails primarily from the Rum Cocktails and House Originals. Each drink was nicely presented and had its own character. They were well balanced between the liquor, liqueur, and sweetness. All were good, depending upon what flavor youre looking for. The small bites were simple, but were perfect for snacking. The band started around 9:30p and they sounded great. Nice mix of modern jazz, classical jazz, and their original mixes. They were very engaging and kept the atmosphere very lively and entertaining. Recommend coming here if youre in the Times Square area, just come early to beat the crowds.
This bar is the best bar i ever been to in this world. The rum house had classic menu to pick from as rum drinks.when i first step inside the rum house it felt like i took time capsule back into the classic bar feeling atmosphere. If you want top shelf rum this is place to be.The bartenders that work at the rum house was excellent making the drinks and fast service and the music performers that perform was classic jazz music i ever heard in my life. overall if you want chill peace night in times square in bar setting this is the place to be at the rum House
Cocktails were great, but the service was really slow, waited 20 minutes for a bottle of beer. They had live music on, but we didnt get to enjoy it as the unprompted arrival of the bill and a request from the rude manager to leave as they wanted to give the table to someone else forced us out of the venue. All after spending $400 in a couple of hours. Cool bar let down by the manager.
Came here after dinner for Thanksgiving 2021. Always had a fond spot for rum drinks and wow, this place really hit the spot. I dont super like the location, but the drinks were absolutely superb and the interior ambience wonderful too. There was live upbeat jazz music that made the standing room very bearable and then later, when we got a seat, the sitting area very lovely. Id definitely come again.
Stumbled upon this gem on a Saturday night. The door man was attentive and got us seated in a busy situation, all while balancing a full and intimate bar with a great live jazz band. Enjoyed a beautiful night of jazz and blues while having great service with nicely crafted drinks. What a great time, 100% recommend.
Cocktails were really great -- dreamcicle and rum punch are a+. Dont usually hang out in times square but this is a great stop when heading to a theatre show.
Great bar! The drinks are amazing and so delicious! Staff is great. Love the ambiance and vibe. Never expected to find such a cool bar in midtown. A must stop if you’re in timesquare. It doesn’t feel touristy, awesome place to get top of the line cocktails. Will definitely be back for a third time 🙂
I had an amazing time at The Rum House. Its a great little place with live music and lots of character. Its got that local bar feel in the middle of all the tourist traps. We even made new friends from different parts of the world and the drinks were amazing (especially if you love RUM!). Check it out, and sing along.
One of the coolest little spots in time Square, we ordered some Manhattans while in Manhattan. Live music and an awesome atmosphere.
Expertly crafted rum cocktails. Extensive menu with fun names youll definitely find something you like. I love the vibe of this place.
Nice place to hang with friends. Music was chill, and the drinks were on point.
Could have been 5 stars with-more availability on snacks section of menu. (They were out of two things before even dinner time)-more food options in general.-better staffed behind bar. Little slow for my taste. The atmosphere is great, location cool.Clean / good staff / and nice service.
Super cool place! This was the first time I ever had a whisky sour and it was amazing!
Good selection of drinks and prices arent unreasonable for NYC. Beautiful bar and friendly staff and bartenders
This place was perfectly cozy and exactly what I was looking for on a rainy day in New York City! I decided to drop by while I was waiting for some friends to finish up their show on Broadway. To my surprise, I came during happy hour, which offered affordable drink prices to fit my budget. The space itself is cozy and almost feels like a speakeasy with the dimly lit interior. Id definitely come back next time Im in town!
Cozy, romantic. You want to settle in and appreciate the live jazz. 🍸🎷🎹
YOU HAVE TO DRINK ALCOHOL TO GET A SEAT HERE. Went here last night with my boyfriend who doesn’t drink. I ordered a drink from the bar while waiting for a seat, as the bouncer had told us that he’d give us a seat when available. So after one came available he seats us and turns to my boyfriend and says “but you have to order a drink.” We thought maybe he was just joking! But then he persisted and told my boyfriend he only gave us a seat so that he too would order a drink. My boyfriend started explaining that he doesn’t drink alcohol and is here to see live jazz music. The bouncer says “well then you can’t sit here” and makes us get up. We decided to just leave (had already paid for my drink) and we explained to the bouncer that they just lost a customer, then he started to backpedal and said “wait I can get you another table” but we already decided we wanted nothing to do with this place. Judgmental, rude and awful customer service. Will not be back. If they would have been cool, I probably would have ordered enough drinks for the both of us anyway, but since they want to be rude, they get 0. We were also guests at the attached hotel so we thought this would be a good place to end the night. Didn’t realize you have to buy alcohol to be treated with respect here especially when they do have other items to purchase. Really disappointing.
We came in on a busy night (8/25) and ordered drinks at the bar, standing room only. That was totally cool, we enjoyed the ambiance and the bartender was SO sweet and lovely. A table opened up and we swooped down. We didnt cut anyone, wed been waiting the longest of the smaller groups standing. Heres what the waitress said:You know, we usually ask that people at least wait for us to clear the tables.Oh, were so sorry. Its just not sanitary. We sensed some saltiness but kind of brushed it off because we literally didnt do anything anyone else would not have done.A few minutes later, we let the waitress know that we had ordered drinks at the bar. She said:OK. Youre going to have to close out at the bar, then reopen with me. This time with very clear attitude.OK. I walk up to the bar to do as she asked. The sweet bartender literally goes: Oh, you want to close out? Dont worry about that, I totally can just transfer to your table!Right. We picked up drinks from him a few minutes later. We enjoyed the lovely music and the ambiance. The waitress not once came back or acknowledged us. My sister wanted to order popcorn. It made for a sad ending to our trip and I want that redheaded waitress to know that she doesnt know who shes serving or whose day shes making or breaking or what weve gone through. And we dont know her story either, so I accept she may have had an off day. But she made us feel very small and that does not seem to be what someone in her profession should be doing. All the stars here, and the bill and tip we paid, were for the sweet bartender.
Popped in with some friends after a show- the atmosphere was top notch, and our bartender, Gino, was kind and efficient. Took the time to guide a me to something I’d like, since I’m typically a non- rum drinker. He also handled a pushy and rude customer like a champ. Would definitely go back when I’m seeing a show!
Good spot for night drinks
So glad we chose this place for a post theater drink! They have live music every night from 830 or 930 (depending on night) and happy hour 4 to 6. Fun atmosphere, very cozy and great service! Cant wait to go back
Casual vibe in a dimly lit setting. Their staff are great. We just missed the jazz performance they had that night. The crowd is a mix of tourists and older locals. Drinks are good and about average for the price. I don’t really wander too often in this area because of the busy area, but at night it’s not too bad. If you’re staying in this area, check out this bar for the drinks and the live music.
Met up for drinks and bites with a couple great friends of ours who are also from the west coast. Service was phenomenal and the manager took extremely good care of us and accommodated all of us even with the available tables being reserved. Drinks were very strong and tasty. Not a ton of bite options though, we settled on the olives, pretzel and salt and vinegar chips. Atmosphere was also amazing. Low light and very chill mood inside. Live piano was also a hit!
Came in for happy hour. We tried the rum punch, sangria and the rum old fashioned, which was my favorite
Delicious cocktails and friendly staff. The live music and atmosphere were fantastic.
This has become our goto bar when we visit NYC. A fantastic selection of premium and rare rums if you consider yourself an educated rum drinker.
The bartender was terribly rude to my guests after receiving my drink. After paying for my drink with cash without a tip, my sister attempted to order her drink. Immediately his response was, are all of you going to order without paying a tip or are we cool? I interjected and asked him if paying a tip was a requirement for service? There was no response. I asked the doorman to direct me towards the manager, he explained I can talk to him about my concern. When I told him what happened, there was really no action on his part to rectify the situation or to correct the action. Eventually, I asked to have his name and the bartenders name, however, he refused to provide that information. This behavior was uncalled for and disrespectful. I have stayed at the hotel 3 times and have never experienced such rude behavior. I will never patron the Rum house ever again.
What a great spot to hang out on a Friday night. Rum House has a speak easy vibe, live jazz band and an innovative drink menu. We got there around 11 pm, and the place was packed. Took us a minute to find a seat as we had no reservation. The bartenders were so accommodating, and even with the overwhelming amount of patrons, Chris took time to recommend and adjust drink recipes. Located just about 3-minute walk from prime location of Times Square, The Rum House is a well-rounded, pretty decent bar that provides great socializing at good prices. We stayed until closing :)
We went to this place for our nightly getaway and the way we were treated was no less than shameful for a TOP 10 attraction spot in Times Square. There were two extremely inappropriate bar tenders, one with white dyed hair looked like a pretentious Pete Davidson, rather washed out. Other one is supposedly the manager and every comment from him was nothing but condescending and just rude rude behavior. When I confronted as to what is the problem for them to behave so rudely with my wife and I , his reply was we are over filled. Are you serious? You are in middle of Times Square and you are complaining and whining instead of giving your customers phenomenal services? In what world is this acceptable? Not just that to speak to anyone with disrespect is plain and simple barbaric in that position! These are supposedly two adult grown men who are getting paid to do their job for a service industry that depends on the reputation of how you treat your customers . Clearly they are oblivious to their realities!Being an entrepreneur myself, I will never ever recommend this place and will do my best to keep letting people know not to go here! Keep your dignity!
For being a block off of Times Square this place was such a pleasant surprise! Delicious rum drinks, well worth the price, gorgeous setting & ambiance, and fun live music on a Thursday night! We were looking to have a drink but be able to hear each other talk and this more than fit the bill
Loved this little spot we found before going to a show.
Great spot to relax and listen Jazz... Really recommend...
One of my favorite bars . If you are visiting time square do visit this place. Excellent cocktails and cozy ambiance. We came here early to secure the seat for the Jazz music night. The Mimiandpod brother were playing it was really awesome. The Rum House totally matched my expectation of a cozy jazz lounge. Very comfortable and intimate.
Stayed in the hotel containing this. Absolutely loved it. So cozy with music. A different experience from back home. Friendly staff, including the doorman!
We came here the first night we were in Manhattan, and it’s quite the atmosphere in here! It’s such a classy and fun place to come for a drink. There was an excellent band which also was playing. My girlfriend and I got a mojito and a martini, both of which were superb. Great vibes!
Stumbled upon this neat bar late night before turning in, loved that they had live music start up that late and the cocktails were tasty. It was a great spot for finishing the night, and it looks like a popular spot for post-theatre drinks. And they served popcorn, which made it all the better!
I was so impressed by the service/waitstaff at Rum House. They were friendly and exceptionally attentive. My husband loves their old fashioned. They have live music on weekends.
Great place, not a tourist trap!Live music and service were on point!
Best place for a strong cocktail in NYC - I rarely drink but this place makes it worth while! My wife and I are in NYC for a month visiting, and this so far our favourite drinking hole. Thank you to the kind staff that made us feel welcome.
My favorite place to visit when in the city. Great live music and cocktails.
I want to share my disappointing experience at The Rum House from few weeks ago. I was invited to celebrate a friend’s birthday with a larger group of around 10-12 people. The organizer had confirmed with the General Manager two weeks in advance to ensure everything would be set for our arrival. However, when we got there, no proper table was reserved. Instead, the floor manager scrambled to arrange a table for us. It was already a bad start for our evening, and it got worse as the server who took our order at the table was slow and unfriendly, adding to our frustration. Later, one of our friends tried to order a drink at the bar, but it was so loud that he had to ask the bartender, Nick, a few times. Instead of handling the situation professionally, Nick immediately called security and asked to have our friend removed, accusing him of being loud and obnoxious. This reaction was completely unjustified and unacceptable. My Friend, the birthday girl had to step in to pacify the situation prevented from my friend getting kicked out. Despite leaving a $100 advance tip, ordering top-shelf drinks, and behaving well in a lively and packed bar, we were treated with blatant disrespect. This ruined the birthday celebration and left us all feeling offended and unwelcome. I won’t be returning to The Rum House.
Drinks were great and a good price for a manhattan cocktail bar. Employees very kind but service was slightly slow (to be fair it was on a holiday weekend and crowded). Would definitely return.
I had one of my best nights in my trip to US at the rum house!Hands down to Troy for his amazing cocktails and service! We had such an amazing nightThe vibe and the music was also perfect!
I visited the Rum House on a business trip to New York City. It was my first trip to NYC. The ambience was incredible, and the drinks were fantastic. Was not there, but heard the live music was great as well. Was just such a chill vibe and relaxing compared to the general bustle of Times Square
The drinks were enjoyable and had a good atmosphere.. giving two stars due to a very bizarre experience of rude serviceYou must exit the establishment to use the restroom. I had left (with half my drink remaining) to use the rest room, and upon return was immediately refused reentry by the door person despite me having a drink and party inside to come back to with no explanation given. I cant possibly think of a reason why. Very strange experience and left very poor taste in mouth.
Lovely place! Cozy vibe. Great jazz band. Wonderful singer with her crispy lovely voice. Good service. Some of the bartenders not much polite and not cool personality.
R is NOT fur Rum here, is for René, the racist non-sense manager. I have been to the Rum House many, many times before, and always had a great time until I had the unpleasant experience of meeting the new addition to their staff, the racist manager René. A person who is clearly a native Spanish speaker, directed us to seat at a table, telling us that wed better be ready to order when he came back to the table, only to rudely come at us only 2 minutes later when he heard us speaking Spanish with our tourist friends, asking us to leave the table, even had the guts to say that it was not a McDonalds... I mean, WTH?The Rum House was always our go-to place, especially as a Midtown Manhattan resident, who lives close by and loves live music. Always had an amazing experience, until we had to meet THAT nasty person. Even the security guy had to apologize for that guys rude behavior. Do yourself a favor and spend your dollars somewhere else. I will surely miss those Tortuga drinks, but I wont tolerate that as a Manhattan resident, not today, not ever.
Literally the most unhappy bartender I have ever encountered.
Low budget Pete Davidson needs to serve his customers equally. If you won’t serve tables then don’t serve them. Don’t pick and choose.Other than that, I’m rating 5 star cause even given that poor experience this bar is still the most epic atmosphere for people wanting to chill. It’s the best bar I have ever been to in terms of enjoying a drink and relaxing. Next time I spend my money there I hope the bartender treats me equally.
Stopped by here for a pre-show drink. The atmosphere was nice. There was not any music while we were there. Our server was wonderful. The cocktails were excellent too. Getting in was the only slight negative because the place was empty yet the doorman said he had to “make sure they had room” which felt pretentious. But once inside it was great!
Amazing rum list, fun staff. Tried three rums I havent had before here, and Ive tried enough that I talk like a pirate year round.
Stopped in here for a few cocktails, perfectly crafted by Paul, and wished we didnt have to head out early the next morning or wed be sampling more! Great atmosphere and feel in this place, a fun stop!
Amazing rum drinks and fabulous music by Sam Raderman ❤️❤️ 10/10!
Love this spot! Great vibe and delicious drinks. Surprisingly affordable happy hour too!
Visited as I was staying at the Edison Hotel which is attached. Photos male the place look light and large however it was much smaller than expected and dark. The seats were tiny and uncomfortable and people were crammed into corners. They have regular live music but however we didnt visit whole this was one. Drinks were ok and service was as expected. They do have a good range of cocktails and spirits if that is your thing. Only visited once as there are much better bars nearby with better selected of beers at better prices and surroundings
I experience very poor service from the blonde bartender. Hes a young white male. When I sat down he ignored me and was very short when I asked for recommendations and kept cleaning and waiting on everyone around me, intentionally skipping over me. I then witnessed him later that evening being very racist to another black woman at the facility. Refusing to wait on her, calling her a call girl. She ended up crying in the restroom and leaving. The only saving grace was the manager and the greeter at the door, Parnell. He was very kind and added to the vibe of the establishment. That one bartender is a deterrent and has lack of people skills. I have reached out to the establishment to attempt to talk to them personally but no one responded, so I am leaving the facts in this review.
Watered down drinks. I would grab a drink at the mean fiddler, much pleasant and nicer staff here. It seems like they are not very friendly towards tourists.
Quaint little place inside the hotel. When we were there, there was very nice live jazz quarter, the rum cocktails were interesting and not excessively expensive. The music seemed to be a little loud for the venue size, but still enjoyable. The waitress was very attentive.
This place has a nice range of rum cocktails, but more importantly, if the jazz is this good every night, I dont know how people leave! Very classy atmosphere, great lighting - I really couldnt ask for more from a New York jazz bar.
No where to sit on a Thursday night, no accommodations to fix the situation and then told to GTFO if we dont order a $17+++ drink. We did leave. Great way to talk to people when theres nowhere to go in a tiny cramp bar.
For a themed hotel lobby bar, this is easily one of the best. The speakeasy theming is done immaculately and would rival Disney theming if there werent windows reminding me that it is not actually prohibition. The drinks were great, the music was tasteful, the only major problems that we had were the doorman (because NYC requires vaccination and ID), and the fact that the bar was so overcrowded to the point we had to wait about 10 minutes for our drink.
We accidentally found this place after a night out for dinner with friends in on our first night in Manhattan. Couldnt have asked for a better time. Live music was fantastic, atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for and cocktails were of beautiful quality. Even the doorman was a hoot and a great guy. Loved this place.
I love this bar/lounge. The music is always great! Rock and roll or indie! The crowd ambience is always cool. Its a great bar to come and catch up with friends since you can hear each other talk. Vodka tonics, cranberry vodka, ginatonic, all $5! Cant find that deal anywhere else!! Also, the age group is between 27-40. Enjoy!
The manager, Adrina, was an absolute delight to work with. I had to set up a last minute networking reception, and we were able to have it at The Rum House with such ease! The atmosphere is delightful: dark woods with a cool speakeasy vibe. The drinks were great too. Delicious rum cocktails are their specialty. Everyone loved the location as it was so close to our conference hotel and just off of Times Square. We all had a wonderful time!
A really great bar with such a fun old time vibe that literally glittered. Came for happy hour and the options were minimal but got the sangria that was great. You aren’t allowed to bring outside drink and my friend was drinking a coffee and they threw it out wo asking…
The drinks are amazing, if you are looking for a good mixologist come here. They have snack food like pretzels, and I believe other small tapas. Get there early on a Friday because it gets packed. Its definitely worth the visit, and it is a vibe.
Classic Times Square bar that has been there for a million years but updated in recent years for a more upscale crowd. Very cozy place despite its location. Excellent cocktails from professionals behind the bar.
Amazing drinks. Great service and the live entertainment, Brass Tasks were awesome! For the lack of a better term our host, whose name Im forgetting at the moment, he was dressed in a black suit, very professional looking with a beard ( had to say that because I have a beard) was great. I definitely recommend this bar!
Incredibly over priced. Youre probably paying to be here solely for a bit of status. Service was particularly poor in my opinion. Should be told its not bar service if it isnt when asking.
Great bar with live music and good service. Very friendly staff.
Awesome place! The band was really going the night I was there and the singer was doing a great job of interacting with the crowd. And, of course, the drinks were delicious! It was standing room only when I was there but, people seemed to rotate through quickly.
If i could give this place zero stars, i absolutely would. the bartenders are incredibly rude and not accommodating at all. chris was our bartender and i have never had such a terrible experience. their drinks are watered down and, unless you want a terrible attitude and zero ambiance, i would not recommend this place to anyone. terrible!
The atmosphere was very nostalgic. The jazz/ragtime band playing was a blast, I felt like I was in Havana. The Rum selection and cocktail options were creative and tasty. Bartenders and service was fast and friendly. Loved it!
Delicious drinks! Crowded, but with good reason. If you like rum, this is the place to be. They have live performances on occasion, and before a live performance it gets REALLY crowded; so unless you are here for the performance itself (which I, unfortunately, will not have the pleasure to listen most likely) then Id look elsewhere for a nice drink. But, hey, if your already there: might as well give them a try! You wont regret it.
My husband and I had the best time here. The service was a great. The drinks are made to perfection. It’s a classy spot and I’m excited to go back
Great cocktails tucked away in Times Square. It doesnt really feel very touristy.
Great cocktail bar which gets packed late at night but they had an amazing live jazz band playing while there. Drinks were strong!
Tum house has always been grear..great... yes you will pay a premium for a cocktail... but itl be delicious...
As an experienced bartender and bar manager, I was thoroughly impressed with my experience here. Jake was the best bartender Ive had in all of NYC. His drinks were spot on, and he was very personable. Expect perfect drinks, great conversation, and an intimate atmosphere. Ill be back every time Im in town.
A terrific bar in the heart of the Theatre District. The rum list is arranged intelligently and well, many rums are priced in low double digits, and Chris is quite simply the best bartender l’ve had in forty (mumble mumble) years. He was well-informed, helpful, and personable. He helped my wife find a cocktail to her liking, and he advised me to have two ice cubes, not one, in my overproof rum. He also helped us decide what food to order. There is only one entree, a hot dog, but it’s made of juicy wagyu beef on a potato roll served with Gulden’s and Heinz. There are also soft pretzels, olives, nuts, and chips. We live in Maryland, but we will be back.
Nice atmosphere but the rum prices aren’t fair. To pay $13 for bottom shelf rum like Bacardi blanco makes no sense. Also selection isn’t that good. There are a lot of great rums they are missing. As a rum lover I was hoping to find my haven but the options are a lot of bottom shelf rums priced close to top shelf rum.
Desi, Basilio and Chris restored my faith in humanity when I lost my ring during a live music performance recently. These staff members were so courteous, went above and beyond to help me locate my ring. Desi especially - she was so empathetic and accommodating. Thank you Rum House team!
One of our favourite bars that we visited during our NYC trip. Great cocktails. They played live jazz during our visit and it was lovely. Great overall vibe. Would highly recommend.
Great place to have a drink and listen to some good music!
AWESOME hidden gem!!! Nice architecture/ design with original Prohibition feel and extensive drink menu.👍🏽 Enjoyed the live music and laid back vibe. I look forward to returning for a night of fun and maybe some dancing on a Fri/ Sat night!!! 💃🏾🥃
Cocktails are all delicious although a bit on the expensive side. Warn and cozy atmosphere very close to Times Square, but still reasonably crowded!
Very cute place. First time I been there. Not a place for food, only light snacks and drinks. A great place when someone says lets grab drinks. It is a place to avoid going with your soft spoken friends; you wont really be able to hear them.
Great atmosphere lots of people of all ages. They have more than rum. Jazz night on the night I went on Saturday so live music. Cozy atmosphere. Matches devote of the hotel Edison. Nice, funny staff.
We were staying at the Edison Hotel, and the Rum House is located at the first floor, just in front of the elevators. It was just our must go every night before going to sleep. Every night they have live music and every night different artists (and they dont charge cover), all the artists were so good, I couldnt say which was better than the other. We sat at the bar and some times at tables and always good attention. A must go, we definitely go back our next time in NY.
Awesome small spot with live music and excellent service. I loved the hotel national drink, the best cocktail I have ever had! Next time I am in NY I will surely come back
The bartenders are friendly and extremely knowledgeable of cocktails. To top it off the live sax was amazing. Place is a little dark inside so makes for a nice romantic date.
I came here with a friend, and although the drinks are obnoxiously overpriced they are also top-notch quality. We each had (1) Old Fashioned, whiskey. It was mixed to perfection, the bartender had brought his a-game and the place is classy to boot - even though it is in a touristy area. The bill came out to 30$ for the two cocktails plus tax and tip, yikes! In this area though you can expect to pay a little more and you are getting a great cocktail, not made from well liquor.
Good spot for getting a few drinks after a show. Rene was awesome and very helpful. Live music starts at 9:30 PM and was very nice
The rum cocktails are delicious. It’s a small place so be prepared to wait for sitting as well as your order.. but live music really brings the place together.
Nice pub music was nice with the jazz band but we was hungry and they didnt have anything finger foods which would have made the evening more enjoyable, we may have stayed longer.
Great selection of rum base cocktails. Though to go wrong with any of the choices! I tried the Dark and Stormy which was a little heavy hand with the ginger beer but still amazing. The Old Cuban was a tasty option that was not as sweet.
Can’t wait to go there next time ♥️
Stopped in for a night cap after Time Square. The staff was so friendly and drinks were great.
Fantastic place, great entertainment. Table service brilliant. Just such a lovely bar.
Its hard to believe that a gem of a cocktail bar like this exists in the middle of Times Square. Great cocktails can be found here at about $15 a pop - which is pretty normal pricing for a high-end cocktail in NYC. Go for an Escape to transport you away from the hustle and bustle to a sunny tropical island. The space itself is dark with wood paneling. It has a classy old-world feel to it. Be warned that it can get pretty busy at night, especially later in the week.
Live music and craft cocktails make this stylish room a fun night out. Your expectations may be low in Times Square, but this seems farther away than it is from the Olive Garden and Bubba Gumps.
The drinks are ok! No food though
Good ambiance, good music, live performances, small bar, inviting.
One of the best cocktail bars in New York, and if you are lucky enough to be served by John you will receive unbeatable service.
Rustic charming bar that plays Cuban music, a bit of an oddity. Restrooms are located in the hotel lobby which gave us an opportunity to see the Hotel a bit. Bar menu of drinks were vast filled with classics like Mojitos and a new one for us called the golden boy which was very strong. Service was okay considering there only seem to people for wait staff on a Wednesday a week before Christmas.
My wife and I went here randomly whilst in NYC in September. Cracking joint, highly recommend it. Especially for expat Aussies looking for an authentic NYC bar
Very quaint little place! Love the lighting and the live band. Bartender was awesome as well. Drinks were decently priced and strong which is never a bad thing.
Had a great time here with a few friends. Def going back when i come back around.
