AWFUL experience with the doorman and the manager! I’ve never experienced so much disrespect in an establishment in my entire life! My friend and I wanted to end the evening with a piano bar. The moment we walked in the doorman told us to go outside for a few minutes to cool off which strike me by surprise. He assumed we’ve been drinking; we didn’t want to cause any issues so we stepped outside for a couple of minutes and came back in. I gave him my ID and he said to me “why are you looking at me like that, if you keep looking at me like that you’ll be right back outside.” I didn’t respond to him because I just wanted to enjoy my last evening in NYC! When I went in I asked to speak to a manager because I didn’t like how I was spoken to. The manager Malik said he would speak to the doorman and that we could have a seat and a server would be right with us. We were there for 15 minutes and not one server said anything to us! I decided this was not the place for us and I went to the bar to grab water before departing. When the manager Malik walked by again I told him him just so you know a server never came to see us. He told me I told you that you had to go to the bar to order. I responded and said you never told me that and then he said you know what you can leave. I said ok that’s fine and the same rude doorman came to our table and told us we had to go. We got up to leave and I just had a feeling that I should record what’s going on just in case and I’m glad I did! The doorman was so nasty towards me and snatched my phone out of my hand while I was recording him! Luckily I was able to snatch it back because I can tell he wanted to break my phone so I wouldn’t be able to upload the video of him antagonizing me! I’m going to report this place as much as I can because I didn’t deserve that treatment at all. HE SAYS AT THE END OF THE VIDEO ILL BREAK YOUR PHONE!

What a charming neighborhood find in the UES! We had passed this establishment many times in the daytime and never noticed . Then we had the opportunity to wonder in one evening on our walk. It has wonderful decor and an inviting vibe on the inside. And A Great and amazingly talented piano player! We came on a Thursday. Excellent bar food though selection is limited. The jazz band that followed the pianist were great musicians but the vocalist was horrible. Surely they could find a woman singer in the great city of New York who can actually sing. Disappointed in the music. Beautiful space with amazing ambiance and wonderful service. Will definitely go again. Hoping the next time there’s a better vocalist with the band. We actually snapped out of the dream and left because the singing was so bad.

Exceptionally high prices and very small pours. Waitress didn’t know the difference between rye & bourbon or which ones they had, which for $26+ an ounce, she should. Was charged a $20 “music fee” that she didn’t say anything about & it was too loud to even hear or enjoy the music.

What a great atmosphere and destination for the upper east side in live jazz! The service the moment you enter the door is impeccable, the cocktails and food on point and the overall feeling that youve been there before and belong.

An elegant and classy ambiance with live jazzy music, cocktails but limited food options. Also a cheese plate is only 2 cheeses and beef sliders also come as a duo (we hoped it would be 3 per dish). Your Royal Highest cocktail was good in the moment and not to sweet but I had such a terrible headache after I had 2.5 (and it is definitely within my alcohol tolerance level) and had to stay in bed for half a day after. They must have used some really cheap prosecco, I rarely felt so bad in my life.

We had a fantastic time here. Everyone in our party really liked the ambiance, wine and service. The food items are pricy and small, but it’s the city and expected. I read reviews about the music charge and upset- they did tell us before hand with plenty of time that would apply. We still stayed despite and the live music was wonderful. We will definitely be back.

I ordered a dirty vodka martini and it was $27 for their well vodka (Culch, which is $20 for a 1L bottle at the liquor store). When I asked why, the bartender said “martinis cost that much in this neighborhood”. I’m from this neighborhood and I’ve never been charged nearly $30 for a martini. I’m also a bartender at a rooftop in Chelsea and there it’s only $21. I was excited to try this place but left feeling slightly robbed

Establishment is deleting all negative reviews of an assault that took place over the weekend from one of their “security guards”. Stay away from this place if you value your safety and dont want to support an establishment that covers up serious crimes.I am deeply disturbed by the recent incident at this restaurant. Over the weekend, a woman was physically assaulted by one of their security guards, who came up from behind her and choked her. Shockingly, another female security guard stood by and did nothing. The security guard responsible for the assault is a convicted felon with a history of violent offenses, particularly against women. To make matters worse, none of the security guards at this establishment are certified professionals. This restaurant is not safe for women. Its appalling that they continue to employ such dangerous individuals, and even more outrageous that they have taken to deleting reviews that mention this assault. It appears they are more concerned with their reputation than the safety of their patrons. This place is unacceptable and should be avoided at all costs. The fact that the security guard is still employed, with apparently only “two strikes” left, is revivable and shows a complete disregard for the well-being of their customers.

Came here on a Friday night at around 8pm, the place was busy but we were still able to get a table. Drinks were okay, not overly pricey. Be aware youll get a $20 music surcharge, so make sure to spend at least an hour there to get your moneys worth. The live music was very nice however at some point it got so busy and loud that I could barely hear the band (we were sitting in the front part). The service was extremely slow.

Especially appreciated the one with coconut milk and pandan leaves. However salty check with USD15 per person for the music which was NOT advertised, nor commented by the waitress. The atmosphere and ambiance of this place was great. Music & clea. But the waitress we had (never got their name, someone with tattoos) was very passive and rude from the get-go. I work in the service industry and voice tone/body language goes a long way. The way they told us “it’s going to be a $10 music fee”…. Ok that’s fine. Then when I paid, tipped and signed the receipt, the waitress rushed OUTSIDE to catch us saying we need to sign the receipt and “it’s OK if you don’t want to leave a Tip”, when the merchant copy was signed AND had a tip. They were looking at the customer copy which I had left behind with the merchant copy in the bill tray. So awkward, no apology, didn’t even acknowledge that it was their mistake for looking at the wrong receipt after trying to find us outside and assuming we didn’t leave a tip for an already horrible service.

This is a good looking bar with nice drinks but its a bit of a clip joint with a truly terrible sound system for the band.We ordered two Black Russians and were charged $22 per drink which included an up charge for call liquor which we hadnt ordered. The bill was almost $70 after tax with two $10 cover charges for music. When we complained about the cost of the drinks, our bill was altered to remove one of the cover charges but that just seemed to be punishing the band. In any event, at $22 per cocktail, youll be infinitely better off a few blocks away at Bemelmans.

The potential for a 5-star rating was marred by the bartenders off-putting demeanor, tarnishing an otherwise splendid experience at this beautifully classic NYC venue. The ambiance, complemented by live renditions of New York, New York on the piano, was a standout, as were the superb drinks crafted by the bartender. However, upon departing, the bartenders negative energy overshadowed the positive aspects, significantly affecting the overall impression. Despite the establishments overall charm, the bartender seemed to act as a vortex for negative vibes, creating a stark contrast to the rest of the venues inviting atmosphere, ultimately leading to a lower rating. While everyone can have a rough day, such behavior is substandard for a place of this caliber. The apparent lack of management intervention in addressing the bartenders attitude raises concerns about their oversight in other areas. While eager to revisit this gem, the prospect of encountering the same bartender, regardless of mixology prowess, is a deterrent due to the energy-draining experience.Additionally, the uniformity in all-black attire and matching jet-black hairstyles among the staff raises curiosity and stands out as an intriguing aspect deserving of an explanation.

After a nice night I surprisingly got charged for live music which actually didn’t play most of the time I sat there. I asked the manager why they don’t let the customers know that they get charged for live music and he said “You should’ve known. Every live music in NYC is charged and it’s written in the menu, I don’t know where else I should put it”. It’s written very very small on the bottom of the menu and that is their sales strategy - making money by fooling costumers. I also asked him if we are the first costumers to be surprised and he said no. So I recommend you don’t encourage this strategy. There are enough places with live music in NYC and I’m definitely not returning to this one.

Awful place. Claims they close at 4 am but on both occasions I went it was either closed or I was nastily told to leave at 3:30. The manger I’m assuming, is horrible too. I ended up forgetting my bag in the Uber and took some time to get it back. They did nothing to help me which was fine I didn’t expect them too. However once my bag was returned to me, they had no problem taking my money when I brought a round of shots, but magically needed to close right away when I try to finish my already purchased drink. When I asked the manager if it would be alright if I could just finish my glass of preseco, he stood luring over me. I brought up that other people were still in the bar at tables and he said that he ignored them because “they worked here” which I guess meant they got special treatment I don’t know. To top things off he had the audacity to say to me “after all we did to help you with your purse” the only person that “helped” me was the bouncer and even then he was just trying to help me be positive. A dumpy bar can’t help you find your bag you left in an Uber and I was aware of that and didn’t ask nor need their help. The manager did nothing but sit outside talking with women, and the waitress with no hair and on a power trip was extremely passive. It’s unfortunate because that’s one of the only bars in the area that’s opened late, and it’s very clear they know that so they do what they want. So end of the story, beware their hours are flimsy, cocktails are over priced and mediocre, just go to a pub in midtown and save yourself the trouble of watching a bunch of snoody under qualified waitresses and cocky managers fumble around for a few hours and not stick to their hours because they just want to go home. So annoying

I was so excited to see it open, especially with a modest cover for the live band.Pros:- The aesthetics of the bar are great and you can tell the owners put thought into the design.- The drinks are good and the specials are interesting takes on classic cocktails.- Reasonably priced.Cons:- Very slow service (seemed like only one waitress for the entire bar on a Saturday night). Several people left after sitting down because they hadnt been waited on for 20-30 minutes. In some cases they even tried flagged down the server with no luck before leaving. The 3 tables next to ours all had to ask multiple times for the check and eventually had to walk up to the host to get it. We were asked if we wanted to order when we sat down but we were never asked if we wanted more drinks or food in the 2 hours we were sitting.- Limited seating near the live band. If you want to see the band you should sit near the back of the bar rather than the front.

Melodys is the poor mans Bemelmans. Swathed wall-to-wall in offensively tacky jungle wallpaper, its dysfunctional decor is almost upstaged by two gargantuan grotesque plastic floral arrangements more suitable for the funeral of your worst enemy. A monotonous generic jazz band, $19 bar peanuts, $20 cover charge (on tables after 8pm) and robotic bartenders completely void of personality and enthusiasm ensures this hole in the wall will attract a touristy, transient and less refined crowd - - a far cry from the sophisticated, international and eccentric locals that frequented the previous establishment. Cheers it is not. And a shame, given the iconic address it occupies. Do yourself a favor and venture a few blocks farther uptown to jazzy Bemelmans at Carlyle. Its the real deal, exceptional live music and the bar peanuts are free.

Subpar drinks, slow service when I first visited in opening week - but unique and welcome concept with tropical theme and swanky jazz band on select nights.

Watered down drinks and exceptionally slow and inattentive service. Just so all the ladies know, Guy Maffett who works there is a big womanizer. Be ware!!
