Small random bar. Drinks were strong and I left tipsy. Pretty busy on a weekend so get there early if you want to sit. Didn’t try the food. Will be back.
Bouncer made all of my friends and I extremely uncomfortable. He scanned all of our Ids and we are all WELL over twenty one, and then he came down and stopped us from entering for no legitimate reason. He was verbally fighting with our friend who had done nothing wrong, kicked us out before we could even go in, and then cat called us as we walked down the street. Not a friendly place whatsoever and makes women feel unsafe.
First of all- this place has the best vibes and is so so cozy if you have a date. It definitely is VERY dark, so before showing up I’d definitely already be a drink or two in. I ordered the Marquee Moon, and the blackberry preserves made it so so delicious. These are craft and quality cocktails, so every time I go I am always super impressed. They have a wonderful happy hour that goes into the weekend as well!!! 9.5/10
Bouncer decided we weren’t up to his standards even though we were all well above age and turned us away. Then we went to the next bar and he followed us and told them not to let us in. So unprofessional never go here not worth it.
Went for a casual drink with a friend and absolutely LOVED the place. The bartender was so dedicated and nice. Will 100% come back. Also 12$ cocktails for HH!
On Saturday 8.3.24 my friends and I arrived at lovers of today and a random man, who was standing far away from the entrance, physically stopped my friend from entering the establishment. We later realized that he was the bouncer and we told him he shouldn’t have touched our friend since he didn’t make it clear he was the bouncer. The bouncer then threatened he would “touch her again” as he followed us the stairs. This interaction made my friends especially uncomfortable considering a man raised his voice and made sure to follow my friend, who is a woman, down a flight of stairs. This type of behavior is unacceptable. I would not recommend this establishment.
Handsome devil was the perfect drink to start our night. The atmosphere is very romantic and perfect for dates. There is no handicap entrance as far as i can tell
The last speakeasy I went to while in NYC. Bartender was cool and gave great recommendations on drinks. Laid back vibe with good music.
Intimate bar with few seats, youll need to sit near the people you go with. Drinks are excellent and not too expensive.Music is great from Sam Cooke to Ella Fitzgerald. So good vibes. One of the best date spots in NYC.It has an normal happy hour and reverse happy hour 2-3am. Drinks get very inexpensive at during happy hour.Drinks are some of the best in NYC and this place is a hidden gem .
This bar made me happy! Im not sure where the negative reviews are coming from, and Im sad that they experienced it differently than I did. We were welcomed very warmly by the bartender, and the cocktails weve had were delicious! One of the best ones Ive had. For reference, at the time, Ive was wanting to have something bright and refreshing to drink, and thats exactly what I got. The space is intimate, so itll be a nice place to hang out at off-hours. Otherwise, I imagine it will be crowded easily on rush hours. Other than that, its a really cute cocktail bar with great cocktails and people. I definitely will come back again.
Located on East 7th street, this bar is rumoured to be the one referred to by Taylor swift in the song Delicate and is truly a dive bar with fine alcohol and some splendid cocktails, dim lights , cosy and is certainly a must visit place in NYC. The place was quite packed when we visited, but we managed to find a corner with stools and later settled into comfortable seats when some guests left.Would surely visit again to relive that experience
Hidden gem on the cocktail scene. Always a but crowded but always space. Good date spot or just for drinks with the lads. Hong Kong Garden is the best cocktail
Been coming for over 10+ years. Love this place.
Very cute and charming bar. It’s the perfect walk in bar with no reservations. It’s tucked away quietly behind some loud clubs. It’s a nicely decorated space and definitely a good spot for a drink after dinner or for a date. You go to the bar to order drinks. They have some infused liquor drinks that are delicious. Would recommend for a small group
The bartender said “your friend is too drunk” at 3 am on a Friday (don’t know what she was expecting) and then some guy started talking trash. We thought he was another random person but he was apparently tied to the finances of the bar and had something to do with management. He talked too much trash without backing it up so we finished our drinks and left. The bartender’s “issue” with my friend was that he “threw his credit card at her” but he was drunk and didn’t realize. The little guy who “ran” the place or whatever started squaring up with us and being incredibly rude. So here’s the breakdown of the place:LameTerrible serviceTiny manager who talks WAY too much trashBartender who hasn’t been in the industry long enoughTiny barI’ve been living in nyc for 22 years and I’ve never had service THIS bad! It was absolutely god awful. If these people have any sense of self, they would shut the place down and save their money.
Excellent drinks. Fantastic atmosphere. Romantic. Fun!My husband and I stumbled across this gem on a walk recently. We couldnt ignore the secret alley entrance and Im glad we didnt. Its the perfect spot to bring a friend or two for quiet conversation over outstanding drinks or for impressing a date with pre-dinner drinks in a secluded speakeasy. Its bigger than you think with a back room and even a nook with a table off to the left of the entrance. We were there around 7 on a Monday so naturally it wasnt crowded, but there was enough of a buzz that you could tell its a go-to hang. The drinks are fantastic. We each had one from the menu (Fan Mail is particularly delish!) and they were so good, we had to have another! Each of us had a bartenders choice and they were even better!Shout out to our incredible barkeep, Natasha. Talented, informative, super fun to chat with, and made absolutely killer drinks. We cant wait to come back!
What a cute spot. Wonderful atmosphere & great cocktails!
Wow, just wow. I was worried by the low reviews on Google after rolling the dice and checking it out I cant fathom where they came from.Amazing cocktails, sexy vibes, great staff, not too packed - what more could you ask for
I’ve had so much fun there! Can’t wait to go again.
Great vibes. Cocktails sounded great but were terrible! Maybe the bartender had a heavy hand but we could only taste the citrus…nothing else! So overwhelmingly sour it hurt to drink. Will come back for the vibes but get beer/wine only
This place is tourism. Synonym for tourism. Bar tender takes like 45 minutes to get you a drink. They’re good but go to Bua instead right around the corner
Fab wee place to visit with a partner or friends :) cocktails were delicious and bartender was friendly and quick at making our drinks! $12 cocktails for happy hour.
$12 drinks 2-4am seems like a good deal if you’re awake that late (usually $16)nice vibes in a dark & intimate space. came at like 10pm on a wednesday and it was not that packed but it was more crowded when we left (around midnight)
Tubby girl yelled at me for trying to order a drink in a packed bar. Don’t bother.
I went in and they gave me a table, a couple of minutes later the hostess came to us and asked if we could move, which we did, then she very rudely said “thank you, that’s what it means to have manners” when she gave us the seats we were seating at. I responded,“Yeah, we should all have good manners” to which she responded: “oh, so you want to get kicked out?” And then I got kicked out.
Expect to get your phone stolen, apparently its a known problem.
General manager would not stop touching my friend and she politely asked him to stop and he got in her face and started yelling at her and threatening to get violent. he was also harassing other people at the bar and yelling at them. do not come here
Drinks are delicious and the menu is on the window, so they are easy to see. Relatively quiet, intimate, dark, and well air conditioned. Great spot for a nightcap or to wait while a table is getting ready nearby.
Best bar in the East Village! We have been going for a few years, this past weekend we went Thursday, Saturday and Sunday! We are not from NYC, but we travel there very often. The beef: It is a small, dark, cosy little bar, perfect for a date! Their cocktail menu has excellent options, all refreshing and great examples of friendly mixology! The bartender Zoey is amazing, super friendly and surprisingly fast! Music is really cool!I see some negative comments and I think you need to evaluate venues in categories, and Lovers of Today is meant to be small, tight, dark and cosy... its not a big bar, so dont expect big bar amenities. This is a gem in the East Village, we will keep visiting and recommending to all of our friends!!!
I didnt get anything here, but its a really unique and beautiful place with great service. Great for Swifties given its history, but also a great place for date night.
Tiny little tucked away place with a cool vibe. Went in here for a few drinks during happy hour. Id go back. Bartender was lovely.
I wanted to like this place, but the bouncer had terrible etiquette; no personal space, touchy and constantly pushing people in or out to move things along. Was extremely rude when asked to stop, and forcibly separated me from my group. Unprofessional and unsafe behavior.
When you walk through the door, you’re greeted with such hostility from the bartender. You don’t feel welcomed to a place that’s named Lovers of Today. They definitely should change the name to something more suiting for the bad energy me and my company received from entering.
Bartender was extremely rude to me and my friends. I ordered a drink and didn’t tip the bartender and she went ballistic on me, proceeded to call her friend inside and he began to harass us. He told us to get out and didn’t let us finish our drinks.
Second time back in this place, awesome vibe - chill and romantic at the same time. Really like their cocktail menu!
Bad cocktails seemed to be pre-made. Asked for a not sweet cocktail and was directed to one that tasted like a cruise ship soccer mom drink. Not a real cocktail bar.
Love this bar. Great spot in the East Village for drinks
For the swifties: get the handsome devil !
I went to a party with a group of friends, and I had a drink with me. The security staff didn’t say anything about it at first. However, another security guard made us leave the party in a very awkward manner. Instead of just throwing our drinks away, he forced us to leave the venue, which was super embarrassing.OK,
Lovely cocktails and fun place to be. Dark and intimate
We spent $190 and heard the bartender laughing about under pouring us on the way out. I’m a bartender, I don’t write reviews, but this is literal theft. Do better.
This bar is not a safe place for women! The bouncer groped the breast of a patron. I’ve contacted the bar so this issue can be addressed internally with their staff. There was no response.Again, this bar is not a safe place for women. Staff members inappropriately touch patrons and management is unwilling to respond. Other reviews have mentioned this before.
My wallet was stolen at the establishment.
Cute place. OK drinks, nice service. Wouldn’t necessarily come back, but this was a good place to have a drink while we waited for our reservation time at another location.
The cocktails are comically bad. Decent vibe. Tip options are 20%, 30%, 35% GTFO
Extremely rude bouncer, not accepting an internationally ID w/o been explained. It felt like an act of hate.
For some reason we got kicked out of this bar with no explanation after just ordering drinks. Got yelled at by a drunk woman claiming to be management: Do not come here.
Nice date spot
Unsafe for women, beware the bouncer
Boy why all comments sound like, were wrote by ppl never set there foot in
Based ukrainian bartender
Bouncer punched my friend (who was just trying to explain that he had an international id and visa). bouncer was wearing a yankees hat. very aggressive for no reason :(
Wild and wholesome fun. Find the back room ;) you won’t regret it. One of my favorite LES spots of all time.
Good vibes & fun music!!
Taylor swift i understand now
They have a great selection of cocktails , all at great prices. 🍹Will definitely come for the amazing atmosphere
Although there is a good ambience in here and average overpriced cocktails, it’s completely ruined by rude power-hungry bartenders and staff
Used to come here from time to time because of the drinks, I liked the vibe but for some reason now they won’t accept international IDs, the bouncer was rude when telling us that he couldn’t accept the ID. I’ve been here before plenty of times and he didn’t have an answer just kept repeating “I can’t accept this” and rudely looked away as if I had insulted him or something. There are better ways to talk to people or send them away, no need to act like you own the bar. Hoping this changes since IT IS NYC and this area has a lot of tourist that visit. It is unfortunate that we can’t be treated with the same respect as NY residents.
The bouncer punched our party unprovoked. They let underaged people in all the time. This is a disgusting establishment.
Good vibe, drinks decent, but not amazing. Not entirely sure what Ms Swifts thinking is...
Lovely bar tender - so patient, couldn’t ask for more. Drinks aren’t bad either.
Came here because it’s a Taylor Swift reference in her song delicate “Dive Bar on the East Side” I had 2 drinks and had a great bartender!! Who was also a Swiftie! This place is forsure a 13/10 I’ll be coming back!
Beautiful place, great staff. Not the cheapest but I wouldnt expect it to be.
More of a Lovers of Yesteryear sort of vibe but still pretty good
The bar looks nice, but that’s where nice stops. The bartender (Zoe) was flat out rude. Unprovoked and unnecessary she responded to basic pleasantries with remarkably rude and bitter answers. There are plenty of other placed in the EV to go where you won’t have to deal with someone who just enjoys being ugly to customers. If I hadn’t already left a generous tip on my card, I would have left nothing.
Low key wonderful vibes. Dark candle lit. Private. Intimate.
I don’t get the bad reviews. We had an amazing time here! We got a table on a busy Saturday night and it’s so fun to get the bartenders choice! She made me an awesome and original cocktail. Excellent 50s/60s music and a cool vibe. Loved it!!
I love going here for happy hour for a cozy intimate vibe & good drinks
Excellent place but I was forced to come in here because of a “Taylor swift song”. The chick that I was with is a fanatic hehe but we had a pleasant time. The bartender was polite and the drinks were pretty strong.
My favorite spot I went to in NYC. Dark but such a good vibe, the drinks are great and I loved the soul and rnb they were playing.
This used to be a great place. It was a five star place. Georgie was an incredible bartender for many years. He made amazing, high quality cocktails. Unfortunately he left there, and the drinks and service have gotten worse and worse. After the rude bartender Friday, we will never go back. Plenty of great bars and speakeasies in New York, avoid this one.
Great bar, charming space, good cocktails.
Very dark bar, awesome bartender
Great place. We went there on Monday after the roof was closed at 12 am.You can definitely meet an interesting crowd between 12 am and 4 am 🤣
Simply put, Tasha has everything you’d want to have in a bartender. Lovers of Today is the type of joint that will have you coming back again and again. A simple yet tasteful tiny neon heart marks the spot. Make your way through a not very pretentious outdoor alley-esque corridor and go through the door on your right to find a date-inviting and good conversation thirsty environment with low lights, comfortable sitting booths for groups of four or five and a minute yet rich bar. The mixology in the menu traced on the wall merged with the attention given to the surrounding you find yourself in makes sure anything coming out of your pocket is fair trade. I’ve come here various times and if I had to describe this place in three words I’d say it’s WELCOMING, WARM and QUAINT. If you’ve got great company, get off your seat and share with them a great spot, Lovers of Today.
A romantic free spirited bliss!
Out of the way, super dark, cozy atmosphere & terrific cocktails
Score I thought! Little did I know that the bartender is absolutely incompetent of giving proper hospitality and gave little care about doing her JOB. Turned her back on us and continued to show photos on her phone to the hostess. After 10 minutes she finally acknowledged us and said “oh sorry we’re done serving for the night” HA I’m sorry what? You don’t close for another hour. proceeds to tell the single guy next to us “don’t worry your good” mind you my friend and I were completely sober. Just waiting our turn to enjoy a cocktail not be completely shut down and humiliated for no reason at all. before you walk into this establishment, the sign on the door reads: “doesn’t doesn’t discriminate against your origin, color sexual preference or creed” you should probably change your sign or hire people that actually care about their job…
Super small packed space but drinks are good and strong
Its a lovely, dark space perfect for a date. The cocktails were good. Service was pleasant and prompt.
The WORST bar I’ve ever been too!! The owner treats her customers with disrespect and disgust. Drinks are so expensive and not good. Not worth your time or money. Go to a bar that deserves your business!! Would never go back
Update: Ive been drinking here over 10 years. Never had a bad time.
Perfect spot for a date. I have met a number of bartenders and they have all been cool guys.
If you go here, learn from me and watch your stuff closely!!! My phone was stolen Friday night while in this bar.
Got aggressively accosted because we walked through an *unlocked* door to an open seating area and because of the behavior of a different group. The bartender clearly failed to block off the restricted area and made us the scapegoat to her boss. Rooting for this place but felt villanized for no reason. Best of luck.
Worked in a bar for 10 years. Accidentally spilt my $16 drink. I ask the bartender for some forgiveness, and she pours me a literal 1/10th of an ounce of Disaronno. Insulting. Bar etiquette 101 is refill because you know that customer is coming back. Cutting your nose off despite your face. Best of luck with your bar business 👌🏼
This places staff have some serious issues. My friend and I were asked to leave because we told a guy he couldnt cut the line for the only unisex bathroom in the bar. The guy was apparently a security staff that got rude immediately and escalated the situation by bring in more staff and begin shouting like a drunk college kid. If youre a grown up there are 100 better bars in east village.
My
Its a dive-y kinda bar in the (lower) east side.
Delicious cocktails... Menu unchanged for over a decade. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
Intimate below-street bar with several signature cocktails
Great spot for a date! Good atmosphere and vibe, drinks were delicious!
The vibe was neat, but almost sketchy, and the drinks were only okay.
Awesome tucked away cozy bar under Niagara
A little price but a lot sexy....
Bar tender charged full price during happy hour
Horrible experience. Manager was unimaginably rude to all people in my party.
My favorite place for a night cap
Real cute spot with expensive drinks
Cool vibes, great cocktails.
One of the best bars in the East Village
Luvvvvv here
Worst of the worst in terms of service and ambiance
Taytay likes it so I like it
10/10 would not recommend
Cool bar, hip vibes and tasty cocktails. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
