Really aesthetically pleasing place. “Lawyers, Guns and Money” is definitely a great drink. “Como la flor” is very bitter and lots of flavors, it wasn’t my favorite. The service was good and quick. The place is very small and it can get crowded. Limited sitting. It’s a good place to socialize and grab a drink.

Drinks are awesome, I travel from Morristown NJ for this place. The area it’s in is great, tons of places to eat after. The bar is super unique with tons of history behind it. It actually used to be an old opium den. But the drinks are very good, very unique and i’m always happy coming here.

Went to this bar on a whim and found a hidden jewel. Drinks are made by people dressed as mad scientists and the drinks definitely live up to the dress code. Each one has its own unique concoction that does not disappoint. Music is mixed and enjoyable for a good two step after hours. Crowd is diverse which is always a good thing for first timers from any culture to feel welcomed. Definitely want to revisit.

Can we call the place a speakeasy? Probably yes since it took me some tome to locate the place. The folk guarding the entrance was cool and let me in. Great place, cosy & warm atmosphere where to have some very good drinks. Finally I got an excellent Margarita and the Flor de Luna is something really to taste. Bar tenders were nice, quick and efficient. Try this place. It is great!

Apotheke in Chinatown is a cozy, hidden gem with the unique charm of a Victorian pharmacy. The cocktails are thoughtfully crafted, offering complex, layered flavors that are perfect for savoring. This spot is ideal for a second or third date, providing an intimate and intriguing atmosphere. The signature cocktails served at these establishments are often made with fresh ingredients and unique flavor combinations that cannot be found elsewhere. Whether youre looking for something sweet or savory, theres sure to be something for everyones taste buds! Additionally bartenders are usually well-versed in mixology so they will know exactly how to make any drink you might requested.

A mixologists dream, this place is crafting well made cocktails with flair that hold up in taste. The Dead Poet was my favorite. The decor is dark, textiled, and moody. I found that the music they were playing was very generic club-like and didnt really suit the atmosphere. Was also too loud for what felt like more of a conversation atmosphere. Some reviews mention a dress code, but this didnt seem to be enforced at all at the door. Drinks are $20-25, which is a bit steep so its a nice spot to start a night out or finish with a nightcap.

The concept of the place is spot on. The decoration, the uniforms, the menu all in theme. Cocktails were good, music was good too but the place was so full that you don’t get to experience the making of the cocktail which I think is cool for a specialized cocktail bar. All in all it’s a good place, recommendation if you want to sit, get early because every time I’ve been it’s packed.

Overall rating: 4.45Tbh average rating of 4.4 feels accurate. I absolutely hate all of the reviews mentioning a speakeasy and! the fact that this is on so many “speakeasy” articles. This is not a speakeasy. -_-Anywho, I walked in with my friend when it opened. Really cute, fancy, bar.Extremellyyyy expensive.. like $25 for one cocktail expensive. I know I should probably rate less stars because of the price but I mean it’s a high quality bar. But I am pretty torn given it’s IN Chinatown. Like, these drinks should be $17-$18 max.I am curious to know what it’s like at night, and what that crowd is like..Since I went in the very beginning only a few people were there & it was mostly dates.I would probably come back if I was in the area and on a date. Doubt I’d come back on my own or with friends. Doesn’t seem worth the trek for me personally.

Fabulous cocktail bar in Chinatown. We were able to walk right in on a Saturday night ~9pm, though that may be because there was a big winter storm earlier that day. Apotheke is a laid back and chill bar to hang out in. We went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. There were plenty of bartenders available to makw your drinks and we were served very quickly. The drinks were alright, but nothing special. The Tropic Thunder tastes like a simple Daiquiri and two drinks totaled to $50 after tax and tip. My big gripe is the bartender adding garnishes and toppings to my drink right after taking my credit card without washing his hands.

This was a fun, hip place. It was a little challenging to find, but worth the trip. I had Tainted Love. Couldn’t taste the booze, but I could taste the beet. Is it wrong that I love drinking something “healthy” and alcoholic? If I had a little more stamina, I would have tried their kale cocktail. I hate to admit it, but living the “millennial” way — making simple things incredibly complicated — is so much fun. Definitely worth trying if you’re down in lower Manhattan.

They also have outdoor seating now. But indoor is better. Good environment and decoration. The drink is also not bad. The Dead poet is must-try. Sitting Buddha is tasty and easy to drink. The avg. cost of the drink is about $20. A bit pricy but it’s New York. It’s a hidden gem in the Chinatown. There might be only one bartender there. So, the time for waiting a drink is slow (about 15mins). Better to have a reservation before you go. UPDATE: pink panther is pretty interesting as it has black sesame flavor but black sesame is not the ingredient. Probably the coconut milk + guava made this flavor. Vanilla saffron old fashion is pretty strong, not bad. Tainted love has strong beets flavor. I’m not a big fan of that. Paid vacation is too spicy for me. Siren‘s call is very interesting. Added squid ink, but very fresh and cucumber.

Unique and memorable experience. This place is an unexpected jewel in Manhattans Chinatown. We came by it completly by chance, a fortuitous twist of fate. I most say I was intrigue and we all decided to stay in the area just to make it back at opening, even if just for a quick drink. As we made it back and stepped pass the valvet curtain entrance, all 12 of us knew we werent leaving any time soon. The decor, a low, but just bright enough, lighting, a faint smell of incense, lavender and herbs used in the drinks mixes, brick walls on a side, while the other side has a more intricate, elegant pattern, comfortable sofas and seating areas, white coated mixologists and apothecary wall displaying bottles, chemistry sets and herbs behind them, all transport us to a different place in time. Then comes the drinks, with their unique presentations, well made and full of flavor, all making this a place that definitely engages all your senses, at least it did for me. Bouncer was extremely rude and didnt let me in because of athletic wear. This is a bar in NYC Chinatown, given the vibes inside, there is absolutely no reason to turn people away at the door over subjective fit checks. Ruined the great evening that we were having. Youll find that many of the negative reviews this place has are because of the security - they are valid! Since then, theres been Mike who moved to Cali, and Kyle and Joe who opened Percys on Ballard in Seattle, who also left a few years ago. But one bartender was so professional, and happy with the evening he just made us smile even more. The other was very stoic, serious, and determined, with a professionally casual demeanour - not a wasted motion, not a drink out of place. I had a fabulous time here years ago...service, cocktails, ambiance were all top notch. I do not get to New York very often, it is a treat when I do. Was out & about all day long, had a bag of Ukranian food I spent 32$ on to enjoy at the airbnb later. Stickler door man would not allow me to enter with said bag, regardless of my promises to not open this bag...it was just with me because Im a dumb tourist. I paid good money to Uber into Chinatown specifically to visit Apotheke, but could not justify trashing the food to enter, nor taking a costly hour long sojourn to the bnb & returning to Apotheke. Perhaps this no well packaged take out food in a tied up plastic bag on your person rule should be noted on the website. Strange to me how this rule is so important when they do not even serve food. I work at a distillery and we welcome outside food, as we do not have a kitchen...we find letting people eat on premise is a responsible way to allow folks to imbibe (multiple) cocktails. Certainly they do not need my business, but I really would have loved the opportunity to give it to them.

No bar seats and no interaction with the bartender server only came twice both time to take our order so don’t see how they earned the 20%. My pro tip is be careful of the step in the middle of the bar, I saw a couple people almost spill their drink because they missed it

Interesting combination of house specific cocktails in this prohibition-era styled bar - generally with loads of absinthe or other spicy liquors. Price is about as expected for the city, around 16-20 per drink. There is usually live music in the later evening hours, typically a jazz/funk ensemble. This can make it quite difficult to converse, so its reputation as a speak easy is factually unwarranted. There isnt much seating and can feel overfull at times. Nonetheless, it is a fun atmosphere and worth at least a single visit to see if its your kind of thing.

Unpleasant experience with the security at the front - my friend and I walked over to the bar for a quick drink after having dinner nearby. The restaurant didn’t give me a bag so I had my leftovers in a small to go box. Security rudely informed me that “there’s no food items allowed”, like I am going to whip up a fork and eat in there. High and mighty for a dive bar on a Tuesday night, guess you don’t need money.

Its a cool speakeasy in a small (dark?) ally in Chinatown. They are making their own liquors and have a long list of great cocktails. The place is beautiful - from floor to ceiling and the bar. A very unusual bar experience due to the room and the location. The night I went, there was a 5 member jazz band performing in a very low key way, while a crowd of 50 hung out drinking and chatting. Elegant and cool. And since the doorman turned away the guy in front of us for some reason, I felt vaguely lucky to get in. And the drinks were actually beautiful. Its like a little slice of old New York. Two drinks were $33, so not a deal, but very worth it for the ambience and atmosphere.

Wed been trying to get a spot at this bar for ages so it was a nice surprise when we were able to grab a spot Sunday night around 9pm. Like a bunch of the New York speakeasies, this bar is situated in the midst of Chinatown with the front of a somewhat dilapidated apothecary, identifiable only by the large bouncer watching from outside. Step inside and its spacious area though seating can be a bit sparse but we still managed to find a comfy spot to sit. What I like about this speakeasy versus many of the others is that theres live music at least a few times a week and Sunday was no exception with absolutely amazing cello / drums from Live Footage. The bartenders were somewhat friendly though a bit reserved but the wait staff was engaged and attentive. In terms of the drinks, we had a very tasty Dr. Ruth (strawberry + agave combo), a refreshing Deal Closer (the cucumber was delicious!). The Stunt Double might have been a bit too adventurous and the combination of whiskey and absinthe left a less than amazing taste in the mouth. All in all, a great place to go for a quick drink and a speakeasy feel although I think its starting to become almost too popular.

Fantastic bar. Hard to find entrance but part of the charm. Quite dark and loud inside tbh but very hipster. More importantly very good cocktails. But pricey. Located in middle of Chinatown, don’t expect to see a big sign or someone at the door. It’s a small brown wooden door that is kept shut. You open and go in and go through a set of curtains before entering the bar. You’re not allowed to keep your bags on you so they request you to give them to the cloak room. But it is free to use the cloak room so that’s not too bad.

The atmosphere is beautiful, I really enjoyed the decor and vibe of the venue, however we were disappointed with the rest. The drinks were good, but not out of this world. Our favorite was the sitting Buddha one, we also had then world on a wing, the como la flor, and the devils playground. Also worth noting the drinks are over $20 and with us each having two we were disappointed we didn’t feel anything even slightly. Finally the last straw was by the end the music got so loud it was uncomfortable and felt unnecessary. It was still around 10:30pn and it was extreme night club levels - ears currently still hurt.Wanted to love this place, and it is nice, but was disappointed.

This speakeasy is tucked away in a very historical street in Chinatown. If you dont know much about the history of the street/area, then Id recommend watching some documentary or specials on it before because it will add to the experience. Even though the cocktail bar doesnt necessarily have anything to do with that history, having a drink at a speakeasy-themed place in that area is cool.Ive been wanting to try this place for some time, perhaps years in fact. Finally decided to make it happen. Honestly I was a bit weary of how much it might cost. Its expensive - but the cocktails and atmosphere were worth it. The cocktails are generously sized and high quality. Some suggestions:- expect to spend about $20 per drink (including tip)- if you want a chance at sitting try arriving early, even if you have to wait in line for a few minutes. We got here before open and sat easily. However by the time we had finished our drinks the place was packed and people were circling for our table

This used to be an absolutely great bar back in the day. Really good looking spot, and the bartenders knew their stuff and made top notch cocktails. However, the last two times Ive come here, the doorman has shaken my group down, trying to get us to grease him to let us in. This despite the fact that both times there was no line. When we wouldnt do it, he made us wait, then came up with an excuse not to let us in at all.If that happened once, fine, it happens. But after experiencing it again last Saturday, this place is just a No Go now. Ironically there was a long line to get into Peachys next door, which I agree has to be the move if you want a drink on Doyers Street. A shame.

One of the best cocktail bars in the city 🍸. I look for three things in evaluating a good cocktail bar: atmosphere, uniqueness of drinks, and presentation. The theme and atmosphere of this surprisingly large bar, located on well-known doyers street, is well thought out--right down to the lab coats. Not only are the drinks incredible (an entire selection of spicy cocktails including chipotle bitters is at your disposal), but the presentation is second to none. Even though I love cocktails, I don’t really go to bars for drink. I occasionally have a cocktail or two at dinner, but that’s about it. But, a place I do enjoy visiting is a speakeasy. Thankfully, New York City has many speakeasy bars that you can visit. This one is located on a street that is narrow, off-the-beaten path, back-alley type area in Chinatown. We got there early in the evening, but it was already crowded in the inside. Through the curtain, you are transported into this mystical speakeasy. It was not easy to get to the bar, with so many people around it, we decided to take a seat at ottomans. Shortly after, a waitress came by and greeted us with a smile.Their theme is Chemist so the bar is not just a bar, and bartender are not just bartenders here. It is a chemists’ lab, with lab technicians, whipping up some fancy cocktail “prescriptions”. The bartenders all have the white lab coat, which makes them extra cool.We ordered Devil’s Playground and Siren’s Call. Beautiful colors, and well crafted. I saw another patron nearby who had a drink with a large flower in (or on top of) the drink, which was really pretty too. I don’t know what that drink was, but it looked good…We had such a nice time here, relaxing and rewinding from the busy week with fantastic drinks. If we were not so full, we would have ordered more drinks. Our server, Julia was really nice, sweet, and helpful. She made us feel welcome and took a nice care of us even thought it was really packed. I would love to go back again to try more of their prescriptions in a near future!!! Our bartender had zero sense of humor. We sat down at a table after ordering at the bar, and the waitress brought over the drinks. She then asked for a credit card, to hold the tab open, which we gave to her. When we finished and asked for the check, she asked if we would like to put the tab on the card. We said no, that we would pay in cash. She then bluntly said that she would not give the card back until after we had paid. After a moment of awkward silence, I said, fine, get the check please, thinking that is a strange comment to blurt out to customers. As if they have people running out on tabs all the time there, or we just looked sketchy??She brings the check, we pay with cash and again she announces that she would get the credit card after she got change.Fine, get the change! lolThe experience left us all scratching our heads and made us feel as if we were not trusted.Very strange. Take your business elsewhere in my opinion. There are plenty of other nicer overpriced cocktail joints in the city to enjoy.

Visited this place by the recommendation of our NYC guide and were absolutely happy with that Friday nights experience! Id said that Apotheke is nicely hidden gem:) The sign Chemist is the only clue that can help you to find the door to this speakeasy bar. Can’t say anything bad about their stuff. Being dressed in our day casual outfits we were asked only about vaccination and IDs. And after that… only fun! This place is small and cosy, fully packed on Friday night. Not much place to sit but if you really want/need to you will definitely find it bc people constantly move towards bar and back. The interior, light and of course cocktails create amazing atmosphere! Drinks are expensive enough but they worth that money. The mixology is sooo inventive. My taste buds were extremely excited)) My recommendation is Tainted love and my man’s choice was Pink panther. Definitely want to return there in my next trip to NYC💘
