Villa Mosconi Restaurant

We came here on a last-minute change of plans (re: hangry and desperate), otherwise I dont think Id ever have willingly entered.Villa Mosconi is your tough, blue-collar Italian uncle in restaurant form. The interior is old, dingy and depressing. The furniture feels stuffy, the wall decor feels outdated--everything is just 80s Sopranos. Right down to the service--the one highlight--which was friendly in a gruff and tough kind of way.Unfortunately, the food wasnt impressive enough to make up for these other drawbacks. Our Stuffed Zucchini Flowers were still frozen inside (sigh). The Veal Ravioli Special was decent, but my Paglia e Fieno featured overcooked noodles in congealed sauce.Not my vibe, but theres a certain type of NYC clientele that love this kind of place. So to them I say, go forth and pasta.

Excellent food and service. The price per person for the complete dinner (apps, pasta, entree, dessert, coffee, wine & cocktails) was around $100. Well worth it.

I have been to Villa Mosconi several times over the past five years. I went on a weekday for dinner and was surprised to find the restaurant was mostly empty (it also happened to be a public holiday). The menu has been paired down from what I remember, but the service and food are still outstanding. Italian food as you expect it with professional staff. I will continue to visit on future trips.

A group of NYU families needed a restaurant that could accommodate the size of our group so we could have a special celebration after graduation. Villa Mosconi did not disappoint! The room was perfect, the service impeccable and food delicious! The experience made the day even more extra special!

Villa Mosconi was such a great place! Food was fantastic! The staff here super friendly and accommodating. Will definitely be returning. There’s also a back room for private gatherings one event I’ve been to there the meal was family style and there was tons of options to choose from.

Classic Italian place that makes its pasta in-house and by hand. Its tucked away on a quaint side street off the beaten path of regular little Italy, it doesnt have the cheesy tourist vibe at all. Its white table cloth, but its really a red sauce joint at its heart. The waiters are attentive, knowledgeable, and charming. The dining room itself is a little stuffy on the inside, but the back patio is all season, with a glass ceiling, twinkle lights, and greenery. Start with the burrata over red peppers, with the option to have it with or without prosciutto. The lasagna is a stand out dish to order. Its made with béchamel sauce instead of ricotta, making it rich and earthy. The fettuccini alfredo was good, but not anything to write home about.

I have been coming here for well over 30 years. It is one my favorite old school Italian spots in NYC. The food is amazing, the service efficient, and you can actually have a conversation while dining and not have to strain to hear ( not too many millenniums Etc come here) It’s a real old NY find of a restaurant and I hope they’re around for another 30 years

I actually really enjoyed everything about this place. The food was good. The ambiance was great. The service was amazing as well. Price was decent. Thank you to our waiter, Kenny. He really made the experience better. Only thing I was was that the dishes were presented a little better but honestly it fits the place 😅

I was very excited to try the pasta here after reading positive reviews. However, I did not have a great experience. The restaurant was nearly empty at 6 PM on a Wednesday. The menu was very short and not accurate. For example, the prices to add meat or fish to a dish were not included on the menu or told to us ahead of time. The service was so-so. Because there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, the waiter kept coming around to try to take our food away before we were finished. I was not impressed with the homemade pasta. Sadly, I wont be back here -- there are many other, better Italian spots in the city.

This is, hands down, the best Italian food I have eaten. We had a party of six and all tried a wide variety of foods from the menu - each being perfectly prepared. The drink selection was great, the wait staff fantastic and the ambience perfect. If I am ever back in New York, this is my go to location for dinner.

I was visiting NYC from Boston with 5 friends for a fun weekend and was told, Villa Mosconi was The Place to eat! ;) The hostess, dining room, and waiter were lovely and the chefs prepared delicious entrees. None of us were disappointed. I had the chicken marsala paired with their house red which I wish I got the name of, because it was very tasty. Overall, I highly suggest this restaurant. :)

This is not really an Italian restaurant.I had carbonara.The pasta was overcooked taglierini, the sauce was too liquid, it contained cream, and they used prosciutto instead of guanciale. I couldnt feel the taste of pecorino either.Literally the only correct ingredient was the egg.

Ive been here about five times. It is the absolute best culinary experience in New York. The staff is kind and attentive beyond words. The food is amazing. I tell people this is where Ive had the best meal in my life (because its true). I cannot recommend it enough. I really mean all this. Eat here and you wont be disappointed.

This is my favorite Italian restaurant of all time. The homemade pasta is incredible. The angel hair was particularly divine. My friend ordered the lasagna special though, and it was nirvana. 👌The staff is also so nice! I realized that my phone was about to die and my charger was dead, and they charged my phone while I enjoyed an amazing dinner.

Had dinner here last week with mama. I randomly selected this place but it really surprised me.The food was great, staff hospitable and helpful. I accepted all recommendations, and none of them, the salad, the pasta,the fish failed me. It is my mother’s first trip to us, and first try for the western food, and she was definitely satisfied with it. Thanks for allowing us such a quality time!

Love it. You enter the Restaurant and it speaks Class. Great Martini. Arugula Salad with the shaved Provolone is genius. The Branzino with the pasta rocked. Will be back soon

Ive been meaning to go to Villa Mosconi for a long time, and last night we did. We went there for a birthday celebration and had a great dinner and drinks with some close friends, the food was AMAZING, the owner Jerry and our waiter Carl (and crew) were 1st Class, and I felt like I was having dinner with my family at home.The service was EXCELLENT, this was probably THE BEST dining experience weve had in a very long time. Their menu is simple but it features every Italian favorite plus some unbelievably good daily specials, from the appetizers to the entrées. Every dish on their menu is GREAT, you cant go wrong with any choice!!The food is EXCELLENT, the service is OUTSTANDING, and no one rushes you out. Its been awhile since we had dinner in NYC (post covid), and Im glad I chose Villa Mosconi for the birthday celebration.What a great atmosphere, with a really nice staff, with fair prices. I think I found my new favorite restaurant. Ill be back again and again. I love this place.This is a MUST TRY for anyone who loves authentic Italian food if youre in the Greenwich Village area. The service is stellar here. The food is delicious, and it has a very nice atmosphere. We were greeted by the management (including someone who appeared to be the grandma of the restaurant, she was so sweet), and the waiter was so warm. Heard about this place from my cousin who said he had been several times before, and now Im a life-long customer. Will definitely be back.

Me and the wifey sat at the bar one night, fairly recently. Didnt get a whole meal, but what we got, the chicken marsala, was excellent, one of the best ones Ive had outside someones home.

The food was okay but definitely not enough and was a little pricey, I had asked for bread 3 times and did not receive it, I had a small family reunion and was a little disappointed, I mean I left the restaurant feeling overcharged and still hungry, it was the first time I ever left a restaurant and still felt hungry. The portions could have just a bit more especially for what they charge. I will say that the waiter was very attentive except for the bread. I dont believe I will return to this particular restaurant

Service was impeccable. Veal picatta and straw and hay taglioni was excellent. Baked clams oreganata and asparagus appys was also very good. The chicken and spinach fettuccine bolognese was good ( fettuccine overcooked and bolognese was unexciting). The house chardonnay was very good as was the desserts.

Wow! I love this place!! The workers are extremely kind and help you out! The food is high-quality and delicious. I will come get again since the workers and so nice and the food is the best!

Visited NYC with my wife and son for 2 days for a quick get away. On our last day wanted some good italian before we left. We chose Villa Mosconi. Was a great old school italian restaurant. The food and service were both excellent! Would recommend!

When one dines at an Italian restaurant, its not just about the foods and drinks on the table but also largely about excellence of hospitality the place bears and presents. In that regards, the veteran staffs--every each of them--here at this place are pure treasures who takes an extra mile to make sure their customers experience delightful and enjoyable.

I had an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment I walked in, the staff treated me like family. My visit was for a birthday dinner on a Saturday, and we enjoyed a delightful family-style meal. The dishes seemed to never end, each one more delectable than the last. The timing was impeccable, as they skillfully transitioned us to desserts, as if it had been orchestrated from the start. The house-made Limoncello was a delightful finale that left a lasting impression. I wholeheartedly recommend this place – its a must-visit! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Hands down my most favorite restaurant in NY. The staff is always incredibly friendly, the food delicious, and the place has a quaint and relaxing feel. I prefer to sit in the back patio area. It is also in a great area with lots of things to do!

The host that sat us was rude, so much so that another patron came over to our table and voiced his disdain with the hosts attitude before leaving. However, our waiter and servers were excellent, and the food was delish! Authentic Italian food!

Villa Mosconi is a superb Otalian resteraunt. The food is fresh and delicious. Everything they do, they do well. This a our regular place to go and so we have tried most everything on the menu and its all great. The staff members are warm,professional and make us feel like family !

We had our wedding reception here June 26th 2015. The atmosphere was lovely, the food was perfect. The only thing that went wrong was the timing, we couldnt get the last slot so we were rushed out. All in all, Villa Mosconi is a really nice, tucked away gem to have an event or just a dinner with family or friends.

My mother and maid of honor hosted a bridal shower here for me in the garden room. What a treat! Beautiful place, excellent food, and wonderful staff. Highly recommend for intimate parties!

The ambience is old Italian like most people mention and our server was very good. The food, however, is the worst we have had in the neighborhood.We got the fried calamari and red snapper. The calamari was dry and lacked flavor but what really surprised us was the snapper. It had a weird acidic taste and smell - the kind of taste and texture old/stale fish acquires. We were very hungry and love fish - the mistake we made was to eat about half of it. We both felt sick about an hour later. My girlfriend has had diarrhea all night and I am waking up to an upset stomach myself.

Wonderful! We were visiting NYC and saw this place had great reviews. It was wonderful. Our family needed a quiet meal and we found it and had the best meal of our trip. Pasta was amazing! Thank you

We stopped in without knowing where we were going and were so glad we did! We each had one of their specials and our meal was fantastic. We especially appreciated the service (thank you Carl!) and warm atmosphere.

The bread was not fresh and cold.The arugula salad was only a field of greens. The veal osso bucco was very salty. Eggplant Parmigian was very good. Lasagna was ok- very little meat

By far the best Chicken Parmigiana ever!! Service is terrific! 5/6 of us got this meal!!

Danny was our server this evening, I was very unsure on what delicious thing to have for dinner since this was my first actual Italian restaurant. He was very informative and and helped me pick some that ended up being OH MY GOODNESS DELICIOUS! all service was superb and very professional! Recommend 100%

Legit old world Greenwich Village Italian Restaurant where the food is great and where they make you feel like family. The food and service are consistently excellent. This place has become our go-to Italian place. Dont miss it!

Our family of four visited based on a recommendation from a local and were not disappointed. The setting and decor were what we hoped for from an Italian restaurant in the city. There were several large groups and regulars and seemingly everyone was greeted with a hug from the owners and staff. The service was excellent and the meal was delicious. We will definitely visit again next time.

Absolutley delcious. My daughter an myself went there for lunch had chocolate martinis an got the greek spread an some other wonder full dishes from the apps menu an ate like queens. The ladies room was amazing everything very clean an waitstaff very curtious

Decent quality but not the best, and a bit pricey ($35), service a bit slow, but food is alright, feels like a classic casual Italian place, could be good for date night.

The place then was full, this Saturday was almost empty.....do the 4.8 percent credit card charge has anything to do with it?The Caesar salad was very fresh, pasta was good. Stick with the specials of the day.The welcome relaxed atmosphere at the dining room was contrasted with the high noise at the bar.

A village landmark better to admire from outside rather than in. You really want this to shine, but Villa has seen better days. Well-meaning and hospitable; too bad the food is just not that good.

Stopped in for drinks after a day of shopping and had one of the best espresso martinis I’ve ever encountered. The bartender, Jerry, was engaging and delightful! Wish we would have had time for food!!

My friend and I had a very nice meal here recently. Excellent service. Paglia e fieno was fantastic! A dish I don’t see much anymore. Osso buco with risotto was good. Rice maybe a little too rubbery. Liked the option of getting a half carafe of wine. Just the right amount and cheaper than ordering by the glass. Finished off with freshly filled cannolis. We will be back. Artwork could use updating.

Some of the best home style Italian food Ive ever had.

Don’t order a special. I got the pappardelle raghu special and it was too salty. I was only able to eat 3 bites. I asked our server if they could inform the chef that it was too salty, they were unwilling to do so. They were also unwilling to take the full plate back to the kitchen and have them remake the dish. I ended up paying $26 for a meal that would leave you hospitalized if consumed. My friends however ordered from the normal menu and it was okay.The staff who came to take our dish away was very rude and unprofessional. He was aggressive and rude after I commented on how my food was too salty. The way he grabbed my dish and glared at me was quite scary. with how he grabbed my plate from the table. But that was only one of the staff. The others were perfectly nice and friendly.

There really is no better place. If you want to have fun and enjoy great food and tremendous service this is the place.

Delicious appetizers. For entree, I had broiled salmon. It was perfectly cooked. My husband had shrimp over angel hair pasta, also perfectly cooked. Attentive service. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner and recommend this neighborhood gem.

Walked in a on a Wednesday afternoon after 6pm and the atmosphere was dead. Stood by the bar for 10min and no one greeted me. No one. The bartender didn’t acknowledge me nor the any staff. Wish I could’ve tried the food, but the service and atmosphere wasn’t welcoming at all.

The homemade lasagna was amazing. And, the atmosphere was nice.

It was Christmas Eve, yesterday, and this year I didnt prepare my usual Italian-American extravaganza of the seven fishes. We decided on Villa Mosconi, remembering the time we took my parents there for an anniversary: The atmosphere there was delightfully festive and calm at the same time; the waiters were professional and attentive; the food was fresh and artfully prepared. Sometimes in a world filled with chaos, one need to step back and enjoy the continuity that a restaurant like this gives. All is calm. All is bright. A wonderful experience, and we will be back.

I just want to thank Jerry and all the staff at Villa Mosconi on behalf of the Illuzzi Family for all they did in preparing a feast for my family and friends in remembrance of our mother Francesca, who passed away last week at the age of 87. We had a party of 40 people and every one of our needs was met with love -- from the wine, antipasto platters, pasta (especially the gnocchi with pesto!) array of entrees (veal, fish and chicken) to coffee and dessert platters. There was no better way to celebrate Mom, who lived in the Village for 67 years after emigrating from Italy, than with great food and drink, family, friends, laughter and even a few tears.

Went for late lunch with brothers and had excellent time. proprietor Jerry was a pleasure to talk to, staff was outstanding and food was delicious.

My departed father’s mother lived on Carmine St and her cooking seemed reminiscent of this mecca because of her family’s roots in The Venice area and her husbands family in the tiny commune of Masio in Piedmont in the north.My father would come up from Florida where he spent his last 20 years and would also order the pork shoulder that fell off the bone.My children loved this place as youngsters and saw their dad at the bar before dinner with the elders and telling me family stories and life in the old country.I dearly hope this place can open again.It is the best Italian restaurant that I know of , not having been to Queens to eat much.

Old school Italian family run store. Dont get any better than that! Got all the Italian classic dishes prepared perfectly. Now thats Italian!

I was introduced to Villa Mosconi by a friend who dines there regularly and is in the foodie scene. The restaurant itself is low key, however the food is not! The burrata is so fresh, the needle and haystack pasta (cant remember the proper name) is quite possibly some of the best pasta Ive had in the city. I wish we lived a little closer so I can come more often! The service is top notch and Jerry, one of the owners, makes you feel like youre at home.

Wonderful authentic Italian food and very accommodating staff. It was the perfect place to host a birthday dinner party. They even let us totally redecorate their patio for the evening. Great food, service, and atmosphere!

Found this gem quite by accident, and it was a pleasant surprise! The owner was warm and welcoming, our waiter Carl was attentive and helpful, and the food was phenomenal. Although we live a great distance away, we will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

An unbelievable experience start to finish. This isnt just the best Italian in NYC, its the best Italian anywhere. Our group comes to NYC once a year, every June, and every year we walk in the door we get treated like we are family in every sense of the word. They know our names, they shout and give us hugs, they start bringing out the apps and wine before we even order! AND THE FOOD! My god, the food, I have ordered off menu every time weve come by just telling them what type of things I like in my pasta and the geniuses in the kitchen get it perfect; they know my taste better than I know it myself! We keep the wine flowing until the end when we cap it off with a cappuccino and tiramisu! Of all the things our group does during our annual weekend in NY, it Villa Mosconi I look forward to the most.Jerry, if you and the boys read this, the Belmont crew will be there again soon!

This place is a real gem. Old school American Italian, the food is very good and the staff is excellent. If you’re in the west village it’s definitely a good place to check out.

If you ever want to feel you came “home” when visiting NYC, want a warm greeting, fantastic service and a great Italian dinner, dine here. A real gem in Greenwich Village. We had The artichoke oreganata as an appetizer and the short ribs special. Ask for the house wine too. You will always look forward to returning.

It was okay. A bit on the salty side for me. The hospitality was amazing and great ambience.

Our family has been going to VIlla Mosconi for 4 decades and last night we held a family reunion for our of towners We had not been there since well before Covid and were not disappointed; the same warm family atmosphere along with beautiful food and perfect service. We are so grateful Jerry and his family have kept their fabulous resturant going through these crazy times and I recommend it to anyone looking for a perfect meal deep in the village.

This is a no frills, quality Italian restaurant; as authentic as youll find in NYC. As a native New Yorker, having lived in this city for many years, this is still my favorite restaurant. You will not find a more reliable, welcoming restaurant in the city.

Food was good and service was excellent. Waiter advised on which were the favorite dishes of most patrons and even shared his favorites. We had a party of 6 and all enjoyed their meals.

Amazing food...The atmosphere perfect..

This wonderful, welcoming and cosy restaurant was recommended by a local and it didnt disappoint. We were warmly welcomed by mama who showed us to our table where our unbelievable experience began. We only had entrees as we had reservations for a music evening, but the choices were many and varied. I had veal in mushroom and marsala sauce which was heavenly and melted in the mouth, my partner had a huge pork chop covered in diced salad which he said was equally delicious. We were disappointed not to have had the chance to sample the desert menu or stay longer to soak up the ambience, especially as we had the wrong night for our music reservation and could have stayed for desert and coffee.
