We had the pork trotters noodles and the oxtail bone broth noodles, and both were absolutely fantastic! The pork trotters were perfectly tender with a rich and flavorful sauce that paired so well with the noodles. The oxtail bone broth was deeply satisfying—comforting, savory, and packed with depth of flavor. The noodles were cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of chew. The portions were generous, and the presentation was appealing. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for authentic and delicious noodle dishes. I’ll definitely be back to try more!

The Tang just reopened! Was missing my chicken soup 🥹There are quite a few new dishes and the price was adjusted down. With so much meat and vegetables in their noodles this is such a bargain compared to the other $20+ shops. Flavors are good too. I liked the beef and the pig trotter noodles especially.Tried some of their new cocktails - cucumber flavor is very unique and cool. Will come back again.

We visited The Tang located in upper west side which the decor is modern with cozy ambiance. It’s good for a workday quick lunch but also perfect for dating. We love their Pork Dumplings in Chili Oil which was flavorful with great size of dumplings. The Salt & Pepper Ribs was decent but not as soft as expected. We shared Beef Noodles Soup, Cold Noodles and Spicy Diced Chicken with a group of five people. Both noodles were delicious with good portion and their braised eggs were impressively satisfying.

I ordered the oxtail beef noodle soup and i also tried their herbal chicken noodle soup (not pictured). both were very solid dishes (i’d rate the oxtail 4 out of 5 and the herbal chicken 4.5 out of 5). the broth for both was light but savory and had a home-cooked, rustic feel. the oxtail had small chunks of meat that were full of flavor and beefy goodness; however, if there’s one dish i’d recommend from here it’s their herbal chicken noodle soup— the broth is so incredibly good (definitely hit the spot for me, a soup enthusiast). noodle texture for both were on the softer side (i typically prefer a bit more bounce). i’d say my desire for this style of cooking is definitely more dependent on my mood/feel—perfect for the winter season or if you’re sick!

No recommend this place.Ordered a pork belles and bean noodles at this location. Wait around 15 to 20 min to get it on the table. The pork belly is big but with large amount of fat also without too much flavor so it is very greasy. The noodle is not stirred well so some part is very salty while others are lack of flavor. The size of the dish is very pricey compare to its size. Cost $14 plus tax but it is a very small bowl. You might get hungry if you just order one bowl. This locations is decorated well and the waitresses is friendly. If you sit on the bar you can see chief cook in front of you. But I do see flys on the counter. So this place may be not that hygiene on the back. Overall, not recommended.

This is a great, new Chinese place serving ”what people eat now” Chinese food. The only bad things are the terrible seats. They just had to make small, low seats that are made only for small legs. But the booths look good. Sit on the booths if you come. The atmosphere here is lovely. There is not too much lighting, but there is enough of it. The music is not loud, but not quiet (and they play ok music.) It was not too loud when I went there, and I went there when it just opened. The service was very good. The people that worked there were friendly. The food was the best part of this place. I highly recommend trying the steamed pork dumplings. They were not that spicy and they tasted as dumplings should taste like. I ordered the braised beef noodle soup. That was good as well. The soup was tasty and spicy, and the noodles were thick. The scallion pancakes were good. They were warm and straight out of the oven. But they could have been thicker.

We’re not strict, but that was strange. The vegetable fried rice was just okay. The add on noddles was plain we asked for soy sauce and use the duck sauce from our spring rolls to give it some flavor. I decided to order the Oxtail Beef Noodles Soup on UberEats based on the picture and description in the app, but what I ended up receiving was clearly something very different (i.e., no goji berries, corn, pickled veggies, or Shanghai cabbage). On top of that, the one included ingredient that matches the description (oxtail) was unexpectedly tough. Ive eaten at The Tang before and enjoyed the experience, but this product bait and switch left a bad taste in my mouth. If youre going to drastically change an item on your menu, please make sure the change is reflected in the apps that you partner with.

The flavour was overall pretty underwhelming. The atmosphere is nice but the spice and flavour profiles could definitely be kicked up a notch. We ordered the cucumber salad which had very little marinade and was so small for $10. Basically the equivalent of one small cucumber in a bit of sauce. The Dan Dan noodles were tasty but again just underwhelming in flavour. Compared to most spots in China town, the tang was not nearly as good and twice the price.

After wanting to come here for a while, my boyfriend and I finally did it and we ended up quite underwhelmed. The atmosphere wasn’t very cozy for dinner as it was dark in the center of the restaurant but at the edges the lights directly above our heads were incredibly bright, which made it for awkward lighting. Anyway, the food. The broth was decent, but the noodles were. So. Soft. Usually there is a springiness to noodles that make it good against the texture of the soft meat, but it was all mushy. The meat though was incredibly good and very tender. I was also pleasantly surprised by the fact that they offered an oxtail noodle dish. Not sure if it was an off night but be sure to ask to not have your noodles overdone, texturally wise it brought the entire dish down and we could not enjoy it. Did like the fried turnip cakes though.

Five stars for the flavor and service. This is a relatively new Chinese restaurant that serves modern food. The flavors are slightly adapted for a western palette (the desserts are especially fusion), but remain true to tradition. Just had the most amazing meal here. First off, the restaurant is gorgeously elegant which makes the dining experience that much more memorable. It’s not a large space but it is thoughtfully laid out. I love the bar area in front overlooking Amsterdam Ave. And the hand painted wall murals are beautiful. Almost every angle of this restaurant is Instagram worthy.Does the food live up to the décor? YES! So happy we got to come for a food tasting. We ordered quite a lot of food (for two people) when we were here. We ordered the fried pork buns, roasted eggplants, scallion oil noodles, pineapple fried rice with shrimp and the veggie summer roll. The fried pork buns were amazing. The braised pork belly melts in your mouth. This was by far my favorite dish of the night. The roasted eggplants were another great dish. The soybean paste and bonito flakes really helped to elevated the eggplants. The pineapple fried rice was great and I loved the shredded pork garnish. The scallion oil noodles had great flavor. The dish was smaller than I was expecting but the noodles were wonderful. Cooked right and not overdone. The summer roll was okay. We ordered it because it looked like it was a new addition to the menu. I think this dish was overshadowed by the fried buns and roasted eggplants. We also ordered desserts and got the fried buns with condensed milk and a scoop of the lychee ice cream. The lychee ice cream was surprisingly forgettable, but the fried buns were a winner. It had a thin coating of caramelized sugar and had a nice crunch as you bit into it. It did not need the condensed milk dip, in my opinion.I definitely want to go back and try more of their menu. Or possibly just order 10 plates of the fried pork buns—they were the bomb.

This place is very good for eating. This restaurant works for pretty much every dining situation. We say “pretty much” so you don’t complain to us after showing up to this all-day spot in Washington Heights looking for a white tablecloth restaurant to celebrate an anniversary or a divorce. But from breakfast on your way to work or fried chicken with a group to cocktails and pizza with a date. Once you eat at The Tang, you’ll instinctively wander back whenever you need some good, quick food that’s not too pricey. This is a Chinese noodle bar on the Upper West Side with a big selection of things like dan dan noodles, roasted bone marrow, fried beef buns. If you just want one thing, go for the signature beef noodle soup with chewy noodles, tender beef, and a smokey soft-boiled egg. We love the Tang. Its a slightly more upscale Chinese place that has a slightly more focused menu than the traditional Chinese restaurant. Our favorites are their spicy diced chicken and drunken noodle soup. I took my family here after their flight came in from SF since its close to my place, and they quickly became obsessed with it and insist on coming back every time theyre in town. We dine in and get take out regularly.

I ordered take out from here once before and it was pretty decent. Tonight was the opposite, truly awful. I had only the Scallion Oil Noodles. The oil it was cooked in had turned and tasted rancid. The tiger prawns (4) were so overcooked that they were hard to bite into. The shitake mushrooms were good! Maybe they were added afterwards? Maybe it was just a bad night?

My fiancée and I were very excited to try this place because of the great reviews and we both like noodles. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. We got the braised beef noodle soup and the drunk noodles and both were so bland with no flavor. We also got the garlic pork dumplings but that was even worse. The ambiance and service were great but we definitely wouldn’t come back.

Besides the name of the restaurant reminding me of my childhood orange colored space program breakfast drink, the place is awesome. Menu is fantastic, New items are great. It looks like a kinda-trendy-for-upper-UWS place, but the kitchen and menu are world class. imho

Wow! I dont know what else to say! This place has delicious food (with a menu that changes seasonally), great and attentive service (water is always filled) and a great atmosphere! The open kitchen provides a great view of the food being made and it is great to have a local spot with such fest and tasty options. In addition, they have some fun drink options as well. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fantastic Chinese restaurant!

Very over priced I paid about $15 for 2 whole wings and they weren’t cooked all the way through. And $20 on a soup that taste very bland with no flavor I wasted $40 plus Will not recommend!!

Been to The Tang three times and have been consistently impressed. The food is well prepared and the noodle broths are rich and homely. Dishes weve liked from our visits include the Mouth Watering Boneless Chicken Thigh, the Winter Melon with Dried Scallop, the Braised Beef noodles, the Drunken Noodles and the Herbal Chicken noodles (which is really excellent). Prices, while higher than typical Chinese restaurants, are reasonable for the complexity of the dishes and commensurate with other locations in the neighborhood.

This place is amazing. A hidden gem. Takes basic Asian dishes and elevates them to a delicious and elegant form. The interior is clean, but pretty utilitarian. The neighborhood is less than desirable...but the food...oh the food. Authentic classic dishes with a little twist. So yummy!

I came here a few weeks ago and I am still thinking about the food here! The naughty tofu was really good. I also had the stir-fried shredded cabbage and who knew that it would be that well-seasoned and delicious. My friend ordered the Braised Beef Noodle Soup and enjoyed it. This is a great place for a late-night dinner. 100% recommend!

Everything here is amazing. Their signature soup is a flavor bomb (but lots of oil in case you’re conscious of that), my friend ordered the chicken soup and it was everything he wanted on a grey rainy day. Garlic pork dumplings were the best I’ve had in a long time. Side note- the bathrooms are really cool.

Good noodle joint. Good service - I did not want to do takeout since the noodles get soggy - but did not want to eat indoors either. They set up a table just for us. That’s service. Had the spicy beef noodle soup and spicy chili chicken, as well as Dan Dan men. All good and authentic Chinese. My to go for noodles in the neighborhood.

Was looking for food on my lunch break and stumbled upon this place. Got braised beef noodle soup, chilled beef slices, and pork and chive fried dumplings. Noodles are bouncy, broth is tasty, meat so tender it was actually kinda hard to handle with chopsticks. The eggs in the noodle soup tasted AMAZING! The dumpling skin was a little thick but very tasty. Staff was very nice, food came out quick, and the kitchen was wide open and very clean. One of my new favorite places in NYC, just wish I’d known about it sooner. Definitely coming back to try other parts of the menu. Can’t wait until pandemic runs its course and I can come and sit down at this place, but so far their takeout game is on point.

Service was excellent. Atmosphere was elegant and music was a nice touch. The food is where my visit topped the charts. The garlic pork dumplings were heavenly, seasoned and fresh greens really pop with the savory goodness of the pork! The spring rolls were the best I’ve ever had. Crisp and flavorful and the dipping sauce was on point!! Noodles of the Goddess! Nuff said! Braised beef noodle for the win! No fancy dessert.

Theres so much sand in the bok choy you can practically build a bloody sand castle.Heres a fun fact. The human stomach is not exactly designed to digest sand.Looks like this restaurant does NOT wash their food before cooking. Or maybe they somehow believes the best seasoning for the bok choy is sand.Honestly I dont know what is worse.Such a shame, the braised beef was actually pretty damn good! But perhaps next time try to deliver your food with less sand than the beach.

Last week my family and I, (a party of four) - We had a reservation and we were seated right way. After ordering our food which took almost more than 50 mins to get our appetizers on the table. I have noticed that other customers who came after us had their food on their table prior to our. The staff was very nice but the food was flavorless, greasy and to quite frank... it was disgusting. My suggestion to anyone who are tempted to go there is... to run, far away from this place. It is a disaster, it is a of waste time and money. One of the our orders was the marrow bone, which happened to be fake and awful, the other dish we regretful ordered was oxtail, what a joke... inedible. Just go to any other joint instead. For sure, I will never put my foot there again.

We ate dinner on a Sunday evening. We ordered a chicken soup noodle, zjm noodle and Taiwan beer. The chicken soup was very flavorful, with many pieces of very tender chicken. Zjm noodle is a little on the sweet side, they do give you a lot of meat sauce. Taiwan Beer was served with chilled glass. The waiter and waitress are very nice. I definitely recommend this place!

This place serves food that is done technically well, but not good with flavors. For example, I ordered the ja Jiang mien. I got perfectly cooked, amazingly chewy noodles, but the components of the sauce were wrong. They tried to make it more hipster by using chopped pork belly, but the pieces were too big to eat with the noodles and I ended up with a pile of salty pork belly and the bottom of my bowl. Additionally, I ordered the pork belly buns and got a really nice crispy man tou with succulent pork belly inside, but the whole thing was drenched in Chipotle mayo. The Tang seems like it cant decide between being an authentic Chinese restaurant and a hipster Chinese inspired restaurant, and the combination is often confusing. Additionally, this restaurant is expensive for what it is, and there is better authentic Chinese food across the street. And, the chairs here dont have seat backs. Its like sitting on a stool with a butt imprint

Review №197

IMO, overpriced Chinese food (I guess UWS feels either it’s cool or understand the cost of being located there) and portions are small. On top of this, a charge of $1 transaction fee for non-cash customers. Nickel and diming establishment are horrendous. If you can’t properly allocate the overhead within the inflated price structure...shame. The food has somehow loss something traveling to this location. Maybe catered towards non-asian palates. The staff are friendly enough but should something be amiss, the staff will be less than accommodating. Cheap ingredients selling at premium prices.Tang is trying its best to be trendy like the lamb noodle place nearby. But it’s becoming a local chain that may lose its appeal by growing too quickly and being too commercial (like a Chinese chipotle).
