This hotel was excellent! The customer service is friendly, accommodating, and quick. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The beds are cozy and the bathrooms have toilet seats that are warm! Lol if thats something you are looking for! They have a rooftop bar, a Japanese restaurant, a cafe where you can get breakfast, and a store to buy chocolate. It’s located by Grand Central Station with so many things to do near by! I definitely recommend this hotel and will be visiting again!

Have stayed here twice in the past 2 years and both times have been exactly what I want out of a NY hotel. The service is prompt and decently friendly, nothing over the top but efficient. The rooms are well appointed with nice features like a tub and bidets on the toilets. Beds arent the softest, but they definitely are totally fine after a long city day. Best part to me is the midtown location mixed with amazing soundproofing and other quiet guests. They also have a great rooftop bar with amazing views on warmer months

The Hotel Kitano is excellent but what makes it so excellent is the people who work there! Amazing service, very polite and friendly staff! Many many thanks to Mrs Miki Sal. for being so kind and helpful! The location is perfect (100 meters from Fifth Avenue) and Park Avenue is always great! I highly recommend this hotel! Very friendly, safe and high quality in everything! Definitely we will be back!!

I loved this hotel! I was looking for a spacious room to accommodate three adults. I decided on the Deluxe Room with two double beds (Premier). The room was as pictured. There was a floor length mirror by the door. There was another near floor length mirror outside of the bathroom. We had lots of windows to enjoy the NYC views. The rooftop balcony provided a great skyline view. The only con is there is no refrigerator or microwave in the room. Ive never stayed in a hotel with no refrigerator so I didnt notice that that wasnt included in the amenities. I did inquire about a microwave prior to my stay and was told I could rent a microwave for a small daily fee which I was happy to hear. Staff was very kind and helpful! Id recommend this hotel to anyone!

A pleasant enough hotel, but not the 4.5 stars it claims. Our stay was fine, all areas were spotlessly clean, the location was perfect, and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, it was not made clear at the time of booking that not a single bar or restaurant would be open at the hotel. Additionally, this included breakfast. The only option here was to phone room service and order it to be delivered to the room (incidentally, the only room service available - no other meals were available at any other time of day). Very disappointing. We would have been better off spending our money elsewhere.

This “luxury” hotel had the absolutely worst bed that I’ve ever experienced in a hotel at any price, anywhere. The restaurant is closed for renovation, which wasn’t bad for me, but be aware. Also, there are no amenities like coffee in the lobby. To be fair, coffee may be available in-room. Finally, very early in the morning, I was sitting in the lobby reading when the bellman opens both double doors leading to street, letting in a blast of frigid air. There was no escaping the discomfort. It’s a quiet hotel in a relatively quiet neighborhood. Has the potential to be terrific, but overall it’s disappointing. Not likely to return.

Hotel was really nice and cleanly. Front desk staff very pleasant/friendly. Only downside is restaurant and jazz club are temporarily closed at the moment so breakfast only available via room service and no dinner (unless you do small plates at rooftop bar - which I unfortunately didnt get the chance to check out.) I would stay here again if I knew everything was open and operational.

Beginning to be a bit dated. Surprised that they still charge for WiFi, with a 4 device limit, and have a mini fridge full of stuff with sensors to detect use. I thought those went out 10 years ago. But the toilet seat is heated, and it is a really short walk to Grand Central. It tends to be quieter, though this time we were on a lower floor, so not so much. Restaurant is currently closed, and the bar is closed.

Check in guy was a bit miserable but check out team were nice. Leaving with a shot amid Saki at 11am! 👍🏼 the terrace bar was an awesome find too. Amazing views of ESB (first pic from my room!). The Kitano is OK. The corner room was a nice size with great windows, huge bathrooms with fancy Japanese-style bidets (hello seat warmer). The location in midtown is great close to lots of food and shopping. On the other hand, everything is pretty dated. No USB ports for your charger, the sofa and chair in the room have seen better days and are seriously small (I’m 5’2). WiFi is extra $ per day. We asked for an extra quilt (not duvet) on arrival in the early afternoon but none had been dropped off when we got back to the hotel after dinner so we called again and were told the hotel was out. Of blankets. We tried to go to the jazz club one of the nights during our stay but were told it was an $18 cover charge and $20/pp drink minimum. Seems like they should waive the cover charge for hotel guests, at least when there’s only 3 other people in the bar. We sat outside and listened for a while, but when the host realized that’s what we were doing he closed the door so we couldn’t hear 🙄.The service was friendly and the cleaning service was great.

I stayed at the Kitano Hotel for 3 Nights. Its really close to Times Square which was a good thing since we wanted to see what the excitement was about. The room I reserved was the Superior King room. I requested to have a window view and was happy that I got it. I got there before the check in time, 3PM and requested to be checked in early. We were able to check in early since the cleaning had been done as told by the front desk receptionist. The Staff was really friendly. 5/5 Customer service. The Room was really clean as well! My girlfriend had a bad night the night before we were supposed to check out. I gave the front desk a call and the manager gave us an extra hour to check out w/ no fee. This helped us so much and I was really grateful for this, so I decided to write a review. Overall we both enjoyed this stay. We both give it a 5/5 and will visit back if we were to come back for our own little vacation.

We had a great time at the Kitano! The hotel is in a great midtown location, a few blocks from grand central station and Bryant park. The hotel staff were gracious to check us in early on our arrival and also gave us extra time the day we checked out.It is a Japanese run hotel, so the fancy Japanese style toilet is in the room.Hotel is clean and included all of the amenities one would expect from a 4 star hotel. Also worth noting is the sound. We heard very little from our neighbors, the elevators or the plumbing. We will definitely look to book the Kitano hotel for our next visit to New York.

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights for my birthday. The hotel lobby and room were very clean. The front desk staff and bellhop were very friendly and helpful. Every time we saw a staff member in the hallway or passed through the lobby, they would acknowledge us and say hello! The bed was very comfortable with great views of the city! The bathroom was extremely nice as well. Unfortunately, two of their restaurants were closed due to COVID but we ordered room service breakfast the day we left and were super impressed! Everything was delicious. The valet parking was easy. We thought the price was $55 per night but it turned out to be $65, not a big deal. Ice machines were not accessible also due to COVID but you were able to call the front desk and they brought a bucket of ice. All staff wore masks and hand sanitizer was readily available. No complaints! We would definitely stay here again!

There for 2 nights in an upgraded excellent corner room. The hotel has beautiful decor and is spotlessly clean. The hotel has an excellent location at Park Ave. and 38th. Friendly, efficient staff. Fantastic views from the rooftop lounge. The only negative was the misleading statement on the convenience fee perks. It provided a $20 per day credit for breakfast and says that you can roll over the breakfast credit to the next day. We had breakfast after our second night and expected to be credited $40. When I questioned this charge, I was told something like the credit was for the day you arrived. Very confusing. Also, the only choice for breakfast was a very limited buffet at $40 per person. No ala carte menu. If you wanted anything other than scrambled eggs, you were out of luck. With tax and the service charge the bill was $99 less the $20 credit. Probably one reason why we were the only people having breakfast. Hotel is 5 star. Breakfast is 1 star.

Checked in on Saturday for a special birthday 9/17 drove into the city after a long Friday Saturday day. Got to the hotel asked for my car to be parked valet. Door man was very kind and attentive. Got to the front desk asked if the bar was open and rooftop was was closed for private event. Downstairs bar was closed. Booked this venue partially to have a drink while looking at the empire state building. Not a big deal. Got to room 704. When to the Mini bar it was empty. Called down to the front desk asked for a jack and coke. They said they cannot fulfill the request bc there was no wait staff. Went to Madison ave to the liquor store while my fiancé got ready. There’s no ice machine. Needed to request the ice and they graciously brought to the room. Thank you. Went to dinner. Came back asked for 3 bottles of water. They could not fulfill that request. Didn’t offer a way to rectify or change the room for a room with a full mini bar with water. I went back up stairs laid on the bed. It felt like a 300lb man has been sleeping on it for the last 15 years. I packed up our stuff told my fiancé we are leaving. Mind you this is now 1:30AM. I go down stairs to request my car. They don’t have access to the garage after hours and would only become available at 6-7am. Called an Uber back to NJ. Great weekend away.Luckily they agreed to refund. I appreciate it. You need to be able to provide basic things at odd hours. You cannot shut your bar down bc someone who paid more money and got to rent it out. There’s regular people too that are also staying at your hotel.

Good location, quiet rooms, comfortable beds. I did not like the greeting from the staff member upon check in which put a bad taste in my mouth for the rest of my stay. Our room in the 3rd floor was so unbelievably hot, not warm but so hot I repeatedly checked the air to see if it was working. I love the Kitano. It’s not just their convenient location (less than a five minutes walk to the Grand Central, maybe even less to the Keens Steakhouse, and less than 10 minutes to the Whole Foods Bryant Park), their great jazz bar on their first floor, the incredible view of Park Ave from the rooms, or very decent authentic Japanese restaurant called Hakubai, but it’s their ambience that makes me feel like at home, and that’s what stands out about this hotel. Place is boutique enough that it’s usually quiet at the lobby (speaking of their lobby, while not sure if it’s an annual event, I remember couple years ago, for the New Year celebration, there were tons of sake casks at the lobby and from morning they were offering cups!)It’s a smaller hotel if to compare to major brands such as Hilton / Sheraton in Midtown, and there is no gym inside, though they offer a voucher to nearby gym. But hey, you are in the middle of New York City, chowing down over working out sounds like what needs to be done, right?? Keens Steakhouse, 2nd Ave deli (less than a 10 mins walk), Pizza places in the Soho area (take Uber),,, New York City offers a lot. The Kitano serves breakfast with Japanese menu, as well, including Japanese rice (probably Japanese rice from California), pickled veggies (what we call tsukemono) to pair with the rice, grilled salted salmon, and the Japanese tea, along with the traditional American style things such as bacons, sausages, and eggs. While Kitano is the only Japanese hotel that I am aware of in the city, the customers are usually mixed, and definitely not predominantly the Japanese only kind. You will see Americans to Europeans to,,, the Japanese.

I won’t stay here again only because the mattresses were ridiculously rock hard. Not slightly hard I mean hard like cement. I brought my daughter and niece so we had 2 beds and we were all so uncomfortable and had joint pain every morning. The hotel is quiet and the room was clean and they have a Toto toilet in the bathroom but that’s the extent of the positives. There is no room service after 1pm so nothing for late lunch or dinner. Nothing. I never stayed at a hotel that stopped room service at 1pm. It’s very odd. It’s located in a nice area and it’s fairly easy to get a cab without waiting long when you walk out of the hotel because of the location but again if you like to sleep like you are sleeping on a NYC sidewalk then stay here. I found it to be intolerable to the point that I got up in the middle of the night to google “why is the Kitano hotels mattresses so hard” and I found plenty of posts of others saying the same thing. You will need a chiropractic adjustment after staying here.

We stayed at the prince Kitano in December 2023 for holidays. Our opinion is mitigated. We disliked the professionalism of the employee at the front desk : the man was talking exceptionally slowly, took forever to do the check-in, and seemed to discover informations at the same time with us, as he was reading slowly his paper where informations were written. We could have read it ourselves faster, but thanks. We had a long travel we would want to rest. My husband went several times in Japan, and for a hotel who claims itself of Japanese inspiration, theres not a single time in our 14 days stay where he felt the Japanese hospitality. We also disliked the lightning of the room, where there was only accent lamps but no ceiling lights. It could feel like a detail but when you have to use the flashlight of your phone to search for something in your suitcase, 14 days later its kinda getting on your nerves. And the most important one, we totally disliked that at the very end of 2023, the WI Fi in this hotel is not included. Not only it is not included, but also it is very expensive (9.95 dollars for 24 hours). In nearly 2024, it is a shame. It is all the more a shame as the price of the room was also quite expensive. This is the first time we saw this. Even in Kenya, right in the middle of Masai Mara, WI Fi was included in our lodge. Shameful. On a more positive note, what we liked was the location of the hotel (which is very convenient to visit the principals attractions in Manhattan or take the train/subway when you have to go farthest) and the cleanliness of the room. The housekeeping was efficient and there was nothing to criticize. Except that lightning stuff, the room had enough space, and was well arranged. The equipments were sufficient and the bedding comfortable (except for the mattress which had more resemblance to a trampoline than a real mattress). On average, the hotel was not the best but still pleasant, but the balance between quality and price wasnt good enough.

My spouse and I looked at this as a unique experience to stay in this hotel. The location is good, the doorman was very nice; however, when we got to the front desk, the man checking us in was very rude and unfortunately we happened to get him at checkout as well. As we walked toward the elevator after check in, he even sarcastically said that we had an AARP discount to his coworker. The room was nice overall if a bit dated. Neither of us liked the bed. The Japanese toilet was easy to figure out. The restaurant/lounge was not open when we were there so cant say anything about that. There are other options just as nice or better that I would rather stay in nearby that have nicer desk staff and just as nice (if not better) rooms.

Stayed here for two nights with a friend and LOVED it! The location is beautifully situated (quiet and away from the touristy parts of the city, but close to subways), the people working here are incredibly kind and helpful, and the rooms are exquisite (very comfortable beds!) I cannot recommend this hotel more highly. I am surprised by guests posting reviews here complaining that the restaurants in the hotel are closed because there are SO MANY wonderful places a block or 2 away from the hotel (Tartinery and Maman are 2 great breakfast options...) will definitely be back to stay again at The Kitano!

Amazing hotel for the value in Midtown. Very friendly and accommodating staff allowed us to check in early. Room was spacious and clean (not to mention the fancy toilet). Hotel was very quiet and had a wonderful rooftop bar.The hotel also held our bags free of charge until and flight. Will stay here every time we travel.

The hotel itself it beautiful and conveniently located right in the heart of midtown. The staff were friendly, but we had a strange experience with two things. Our car that was valeted was returned to us with boot prints all over the seat, dashboard, and door as well as the hood having been opened and not properly closed? We also discovered what we hoped to have been clean socks that did not belong to us in the sheets of one bed… We were comped our wifi which is not free compared to other hotels in the area. Overall the experience was fine, we just likely would not stay here again.

We loved the Murray’s Hill area and this Hotel had a quiet air of tranquility for our stay. Friendly staff . They only opened the rooftop cocktail bar one evening which was special . Advise you to take your own teas and coffee supplies though for the room. The added bonus was the nearby NYC gym with great facilities for hotel guests.

Is stayed here for four nights and have nothing but positive things to say. The service is exceptional and the place is very clean and quiet . All the workers go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The beds were comfortable and if you want more pillows they will bring them up. The bathrooms were also amazing. I will return for every work trip

I have been to the Kitano twice and it is a stellar hotel. I love that it is footsteps away from Grand Central Station and that it is a short walk from various shops at Fifth Avenue. The best part about the Kitano is the graciousness and kind nature of the employees- especially Brian and Zack. One bit of feedback is that there should be more pillows in the bed. I also love that the property is clean and safe! I look forward to returning to the Kitano in the future!

Review №114

The Kitano blew us away! We booked the hotel for two key requirements - location (central to locations we intended to explore) and king bed (few hotels in NYC offer a king bed). We arrived to exceptionally pleasant and helpful Bellman and Front Desk staff and a nicely decorated lobby for the Christmas season. Check-in was a breeze, and we were informed of the Roof at 66 at that time (more on that later). Headed up to our room, where we found a spacious (by NYC standards) king bedroom. The bathroom amenities included a towel warming rack and bidet with heated seat! Service the entire stay was outstanding - we realized we needed an extra robe and an iron and board, which were sent up promptly! Its a smaller hotel, which resulted in the place being mostly quiet - which is nice after a day exploring the city and you just want rest. But if you arent ready to sleep just yet, visit the Roof at 66! Theyve turned the penthouse floor into an intimate bar space with balconies on two sides with excellent skyline views. Excellent bartenders and good drink selections. Theres also a bar menu - we had the potstickers the first night and they were quite good. One of the bartenders even took a quick minute to step onto the patio to take our photo with the Empire State Building in the background. They were in a phased re-opening at the time of our visit, so the Japanese restaurant on-site, as well as the Jazz bar, were not operating, but hopefully will be on our return trip at some point in the future. The Roof at 66 is also currently closed Sundays and Mondays at this time.We were thrilled with our stay, and thank the wonderful staff for their hospitality! We hope to return soon.

The Kitano is among the nicest hotels in the city. The service is excellent, and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. I do wish the wifi was free, because it feels a little dated to charge for what could easily be added to on to the price of the room. The rooms themselves are very spacious and nicely designed. Hot water kettle is provided, so you can brew your coffee from the local grocery store. The new rooftop bar Roof At 66 Park is a great addition, with awesome drinks and a spectacular view. Lets hope the restaurant and Jazz at Kitano will be happening again very soon. Highly recommended.

I booked this hotel for $157 a night just to get an email from them that it was cancelled because of a ‘glitch’ in their system. They then wanted to charge me $369 a night instead to keep my reservation. This place is a total scam because they would’ve charged me for cancelling it wrong but they get to do it with no consequences.

The hotel is super high class! Super comfortable, service is high level as well! A lot of little things around you what makes your standing in NY absolutely fabulous!Fantastic hotel! In the Kitano hotel’s room you is so quiet! You will never believe it it NY! Rooms looks absolutely new, everything is working, super comfy ropes and slippers. Super comfortable beds, a lot of space in the room. The AC is working quite, and super modern! I had never seen technic like this in US. Like I told before rooms are very specious! For the coffee/tea lovers, the cofee machine is absolutely amazing. Shops, restaurants, Cental Park, Times Square-everything is close by!5 stars!!!And I want to thank Zack, the hotel general manager, who is always so attentional to everyone, and every guest needs!

My daughter is cancer survivor and she wanted to see NYC Christmas lights. She was very happy when I showed her where we are staying. 3 hours later we got email from hotel that our reservation is not valid because price we booked was not correct??? They generously offer us a 25% discount and new price was around $700 per night. I try to explain them our situations , that was a mistake on their and and shouldnt affect our original reservation but putting in simple words- THEY DID NOT CARE. I can not comment hotel, we never stay there, but the way they handled situation was very poor and it said a lot about them.

The shower head was broken and fell off and hit me. When we told the front desk as an FYI no compensation was given and a building engineer and security guard forced us to open our room accusing us of breaking things! We could hear them talking poorly about us on the other side of the door. The sanitizing/deodorizing liquid that squirts out of the electronic toilet actually smells bad, defeating its purpose. There was dog urine in the elevator as well.

Its a nice hotel. When you walk in you can definitely feel the old school luxury. We got upgraded to a room with a living room (never used it though) was again old school luxury - lots of marble and darker woods and beige carpets.Problem for me was I feel they need to update the technology in the rooms... Had tiny non HD TV and I feel the rooms were getting tired.Breakfast was included and we had buffet, it wasnt that special and reminded me of a ok level business hotel in Tokyo.Again nice hotel with good service and not a bad location also wasnt overcrowded like some hotels can be, but I think I would stay somewhere else next time...
