I love this bar. I dont go to the Lower East Side as much as I used to but this is probably my favorite spot in that area. A great jukebox provides the perfect soundtrack for this throwback bar. Tables are located in the rear portion of the pub, where books line the shelves and movies play on the back wall. The bartenders keep the patrons in check and the vibe moving. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the bartenders. The clientele is varied and if you come with the right energy, you can definitely meet new people and have memorable conversations. Just a gem of a place that I hope never changes.

I had an issue with the bartender being short with us. I know we didn’t understand some of the rules for their happy hour but we were treated like idiots. My mix drink was tough to drink it was so sour and salty. I searched the walls for an elaboration of the rules and I didn’t see any. It was super loud and was tough to have any conversation. I hope this was a fluke experience

A real dive bar, not a wanna-be dive bar! We went to The Library on a recent Friday night and it reminded me of the way most of the bars in the East Village used to be many years ago. If you like 80s and 90s alternative and punk music, you will never find a better juke box. Dont change anything, please!

I visited for the first time with some friends and someone brought their small dog in and let it walk all around the bar top. The bartender allowed it and was letting it walk near the clean glassware and where drinks were being made. She continued to pet it between making drinks and did not wash her hands once. I have been to many dive bars but I have never seen anything like this before.

I came here for happy hour, minding my own business. Some men started speaking to me and I navigated them asking me to leave with them which I never did. The bartenders still judged me, it’s not my my fault that they surrounded me and I spoke with them. This became an excuse to judge me, and my capacity to be served. I sat with someone who determined I was fine and even vouched to the bartenders , and these bartenders were judging my appearance (I have an autoimmune disease that may manifest in my appearance ) but I did nothing. I was a completely peaceful and well tipping and in turn treated horribly. never caused trouble and even someone vouched for me to the bartender that she was lucid. I payed, tipped well, and I don’t know what judgement was involved with ejecting me as the reason I was talking with people who I never meant to speak with and navigating that gracefully. What on earth do you want me to do? I was treated rudely and ejected from this bar. I have an autoimmune thing that can make me appear a certain way, not something I try to play up but it is unfair. I didn’t do anything and was treated super poorly while doing nothing at all. I don’t know what to make of it. The bartender claims she grabbed my jacket which did not happen. If these guys hang out you clearly serve them, and if you judge women for navigating their deal that’s misdirected.

As a Mexican person definitely felt discriminated against. Asked for a beer and 3 others and the bartender looked disgusted and had me wait for 15 minutes to pour for 20 seconds. It was on a slow Sunday so definitely there is some gender and possibly racial bias going on if you don’t pass a vibe check or aren’t their model customer. Still tipped 30%

Someone brought me here once and let me walk around on the full length of the bar, I truly had the best time of my life. My fiancé and I stopped in here for a pre NYE party drink. There was a couple sitting at the bar who had a small dog, and the bartender was letting the dog walk ON the bar where drinks were made. I’m talking, ON the mats where drinks are made and cups are set down to dry. She was petting it in between making drinks, without washing her hands even once. We frequent dive bars so aren’t strangers to witnessing the occasional healthcode violation, but this was actually disgusting. Super disappointed because we were excited to visit this bar.

Bartenders tried to charge me for a tab that I’d already paid when I went back to collect my card from the bar; both were exceptionally rude. Despite my patience (having worked in a restaurant for years myself) they insisted they were correct but were unwilling to help me understand why they were charging me again. They got unreasonably angry with me when I inquired about the whereabouts of the original ticket I signed hours before. Sure enough when I got home, I checked with my bank account and the full tab was paid earlier that night when I initially left my card at the bar.

Highly recommend taking your service elsewhere. An employee of this bar harassed my friend last Sunday- we were exiting the apartment building next door with drinks in our hands, and a bouncer/bartender of the Library thought we were leaving their establishment with drinks. Instead of stopping to figure out if that was the case, the employee of the library walked up to my friend, grabbed their drink, and emptied it out on the street after yelling at them empty your drink NOW with no explanation. It was confusing, scary, and extremely aggressive. After we figured out he thought we came from his bar, and told him that was not the case, he did not once apologize. Instead, the employee said This explains why your friend is mad. He did not offer to replace our drinks, apologize in any way, or calmly walk away. The employee proceeded to continue harassing my friend, name calling, and yelling that my friend needs to work out more - instigating and continuing to provoke. It was extremely rude, aggressive, dangerous, and most importantly uncalled for. In the future, hopefully the Library hires more level-headed staff who will not harass passerbys who arent even customers of theirs.

I was planning on barhopping for the night with my wife but enjoyed the environment so much we just stayed. The bar was playing old school punk music which was refreshing and enhanced the vibe of the bar. The bartender was nice, the bar was busy so it did take a while to get their attention but I didnt mind. When you have a full bar and only one bartender youll just have to be patient.Their happy hour is fun. Instead of getting a discount on drinks you get a toy dinosaur with the purchase of a drink which you exchange for a free drink, kinda like a fun buy one, get one free style. The art on the walls are beautiful, it was fun looking around with my wife finding little pieces of art, funny stickers, and quotes around the bar.Definitely one of the best nights I had while visiting NY!

I told him it was dark and he told me to “open my eyes” and he went behind the bar counter. I went up to the bar counter and told him “you wear glasses, you should open your eyes” and he said “you really gonna start with me?” I told him “yeah I am, because you were disrespectful”. He told me and my friend to “get out of my bar” so we left.I didn’t mind getting kicked out because the bar wasn’t my vibe anyways. It’s a very low-key bar and no one was dancing. One of my favorite cheap bars in the area. Beer + liquor. Amazing happy hour til 8 featuring buy-one-get-one-FREE. No joke. Buy a beer get another beer for free. They give you a little dinosaur to keep to use as your free drink token so they know youre not trying to cheat them. They play old/culty/weird/funny movies on the back wall via projector almost 24/7. Two bathrooms in the middle make for a convenient pit stop. No food I believe. Great service though!

What else can I say that hasnt been said about this establishment that hasnt been said before. Its amazing, slightly hipsterized and less grungy/dingy than it used to be when it was my local 6 years ago and I lived directly across the street. But cheap, good music, tatted up women,/men. Has character that you dont see to much in the east village anymore

Loved this place! The first time I walked in on a Saturday afternoon there was a dog sitting at the bar and a couple of toddlers running around. Very quirky and fun

Loud grungy bar that is a throwback to the East Village hey-days. They play terrible movies on a screen in the back. Bartenders are friendly and tattooed. Drinks are pretty cheap with $5 beer and shot specials starting at midnight (!) There is a wonderful jukebox.

Fun dive bar with friendly staff. Not giving 5 stars because I’m not a fan of rock/metal music. If this place had electro, then it’d be right up my street.

Oh my god. So much fun just now! Really enjoyed the selection. One thing outside should be cleaned a little better. Our bartender was clueless. That was a no go. But Issa good time and all. Fun nite. But nothing to go crazy about!

This is my favorite bar. I made a point to visit this bar on my 5th visit to NYC because I loved it so much 13 years ago on my last visit. This place is classified as a dive but the bartender can make my favorite obscure fancy cocktail, while we listen to punk on the juke box and watch terrible movies projected on the wall. A+ for style, quality, personality, and price. Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends.

I had a really fun time at this bar. I love the gritty feel of it and the artwork on the walls. If you walk to the back there is seating and they also show old movies from the late 80s early 90s. The music is good and the drinks are cheap! They have a really great happy hour too. But this isnt the dancing type of bar. This is a place to sit down relax and hang out with friends. The bathrooms really such but I guess that is to be expected at a bar. This is a true dive bar!

This is one of my favorite bars, which means it has to be dark, with the right kind of music, where a one-on-one talk is still possible. The library is al of that.Good atmosphere and music, friendly bar tenders, and the sitting area is a bit away from the main bar which allows some more quiet. The decor is nice, makes me feel like its some place from an 80s action movie.

This is exactly what I want in a LES bar. Reasonably priced drinks, laid back atmosphere, divey but not excessively disgusting. I mean, I wouldnt want to eat off the bathroom floor but Ive definitely seen much worse. I was here recently with a group of friends on a Friday night, and it was crowded but not so packed we couldnt move, and we were even able to get a booth in the back without waiting. Ill definitely be back.

Surprisingly great dive bar given its location. Pretty crowd of young people come in and the drinks arent as bad price wise as nearby bars. Its not the place to get housed in but its a great spot to hang out with some friends or even pregame before going to the other places that you do want to get housed in that are just down the block.
