The Hoptimist

I had visited the Hoptimist a few times before moving back to NYC and the staff are always incredibly nice & pleasant to talk with. I brought my dog since moving and she has been welcomed with open arms (she is adjusting to NYC after living on the dog friendly west coast). Since we are in the neighborhood we will likely become frequent visitors since I like beer (and they have a great selection!) & my dog likes attention.

A simple straight forward bar with good beer. For Manhattan the prices are alright. The beer collection is unique and well curated. I liked their on tap stout, however the cider was too dry for me. The ambience is good with high chairs and tables. Sometimes they have the music off and I guess when there are too many people they turn it up.

My husband and I absolutely love this bar. It helps that Bear is the best bartender ever! He’s always super helpful at guiding me, the non beer drinker at finding the right selection for my taste buds. He’s always on point. The bar also has an incredible selection. One of these days we will get here for the burger and fries. Love love love this spot!

We love this spot! When it comes to unique beers, this might be the best bar for it on the Upper West Side. I tried a cucumber beer and was pleasantly surprised!The staff is friendly, they usually have good music playing, and many of the beers are local to New York.Highly recommend stopping in for a beer here!

I recently visited this tap room and was thoroughly impressed. The beer dispenser offered a wide selection, catering to all tastes and preferences. The knowledgeable staff were on hand to offer recommendations and answer any questions, making the experience even more enjoyable.What I appreciated most was that it wasn’t packed. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable, perfect for a delightful night out. Whether you’re a beer connoisseur or just looking for a great place to unwind, this tap room is definitely worth a visit.

A fantastic bar with really nice staff. Dropped in here twice on a recent trip to NYC and was welcomed and looked after both visits. They have a great selection of beers both in terms of styles and breweries and they stock some of New Yorks best breweries like other half, finback, KCBC, Equilibrium, you wont go thirsty in here. They are a verified Untapped bar too so their full menu is listed there, always a good way to save time stood at a fridge.

Pleasant little bar offering rare brews on tap and in bottles. Get there early before it gets mobbed. Maybe 10 tables inside, and a few out front. Place was clean, beer was delicious and cold. Very relaxing, neighborhood atmosphere. Dog friendly.

I had an amazing experience here due to the bartenders genuine hospitality. I’m terrible with names and can’t recall his but tall guy with bandana and his hair pulled back. An absolute gentleman! The other patrons were delightful as well - thank you all for being such lovely hosts on the Upper West side. Cheers!!

One of my favorite neighborhood spots to grab drinks and bring my dog with. They always have a great rotating selection of local beers with knowledgeable bartenders. I have also been pleasantly surprised by their food - the smash burger never disappoints!

There appears to be a nice assortment of beers from NY state available at the taproom especially local microbreweries. The Hoptimist also fills up growlers while offering cans to go.If one feels like getting a nice cold beer after a day at the American Museum of Natural History or strolling through the Upper West Side this is a good place to go.

Awesome spot for craft beer on the UWS. Glad to see another place take over from previous bar. Not a typical bar at all this is for folks that really enjoy different beer types in a chill almost wine bar type atmosphere.

Nice bar. Quick service. Friendly staff. 7-8 taps with local brews and large canned selection in their coolers. Some food. Happy hour specials.

This is a great little tap house and I highly recommend this place to anyone! The bartender is such a nice man and was so kind to us and our service dog. We cant wait to go back!!!

Impressive selection of beers. New England IPAs are my go-to and they did not disappoint. Staff are awesome too. You won’t regret stopping in for a few beers

They always have a vast selection of ny state tap and canned beers and the food is great.

Good beer selection, good vibe, and best of all, dog friendly! Small place but they use the space well. You can get food ordered from the Caledonian next door.

In town for work and my coworkers and I stopped in after a team building activity.Bear was behind the counter and took great care of us was helpful in assisting us with choosing beers.Nice chill spot. I’ll be back next time I’m in New York

After years of living in the upper West side, decided to stop by and have a few beers from local New York State brewing companies, and the place was awesome with a large selection of beers. Great music, great service, & small selection of good food…Definitely stopping by again.
