This is strictly a review on space, vibe and cocktails.Temple bar is a classic cocktail bar in Soho. Dark interiors with dim lighting, its a sexy place to be in.The key with Temple Bar is arriving early to grab a seat at the bar. They do fill up fast. The cocktails were executed to perfection and I received incredible service from the bar team and bar manager Noelle. If you go on a Thursday or Saturday evening look for Simon. Tall bartender with an epic mustache. He is a young superstar who moves fast, is cordial, knowledgeable and makes some killer cocktails.Ill def be back to try some of their food offerings.
I had a very disappointing experience at this bar due to the behavior of the hostess. From the moment we arrived, she was extremely rude and unwelcoming. We initially sat at the bar, where the bartender was wonderful and provided excellent service. However, when another person joined our group, we moved to a table as directed by the hostess.Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse. The hostess guided us to a table without informing us of any time restrictions or policies. Then, in the middle of our drinks, she abruptly approached us and demanded that we vacate the table immediately because a group with a reservation had arrived. This was done with no prior warning or courtesy, leaving us feeling rushed and disrespected. To make matters worse, her attitude was unprofessional and unnecessarily rude throughout the interaction. While the bar itself had great ambiance and the bartender was exceptional, the poor service and unkind treatment from the hostess completely soured the experience. I would hesitate to return unless improvements are made to the customer service standards.
Sasha was the best server I’ve ever had! Friendly, accommodating, knowledgeable about the menu and she made GREAT suggestions for me and my wife. The food and drinks were fantastic, but Sasha’s energy really made our night great! Thank you Sasha!
It was cool. I like that there’s a dress code. Super dark and intimate cocktail bar.Been waiting to check them out for a while. For $21 per cocktail, the 4 drinks we got didn’t wow us. We go out pretty often and also work in the industry. The price to value ratio wasn’t there for us. The mini cocktails that they have were excellent. At $12 per drink, served up, great taste and balance.Service was good when we came in. The server was cool, but we felt like we had to wait a while to order the next round. The back is too dim for the menus and the menu is a bit smaller. I think the focus here is more on martinis, since that highlighted a whole page on the menu. The complimentary popcorn was was great
Place was chill until the bartender made sure we didn’t encroach his girlfriend, who was seated at the bar as well. And made sure weMOVED AWAY from her area. I will not be back. I hope your GF gives you amazing tips.
Great service and good cocktails! The vibe here is pretty chill but not noisy, and the inner furnishing is really classic and elegant. The blue Negroni tastes almost as a normal Negroni with slightly more fragrance of orange peel garnishing. The penicillin is also decent with Islay whiskey. The Dark rain is also great but not as surprising as the other two, but still a great drink! Also be sure if you could not open a door, try open the door on the other side.We waited in line for 20 minutes and ended up found there was another door on the other side 😅A recommended bar in the area!
Nice atmosphere and the have some really good cocktails
Incredibly rude and physically aggressive experience with the bouncer before we could even say a word. I’ve spent hundreds at this bar in the past but will never be going again—an overpriced tourist trap for transplants in bodycon dresses from 2008
Honestly, amazing to be back through the door again! I want to make it my old/new place again! Great bartenders and great drinks! The service at the bar will make you feel comfortable and engaged, super important! It really looks just as the last time I was there in my memory but a little more polished this time around!Im in the hospitality industry and the new team and ownership are gonna kill it and do it justice!Id love to make it one of my places to become a regular again but I would recommend making a reservation! The door is tough and seats WILL fill up!
Who would’ve thought one of the most basic lame cocktail bars in NYC hired a hideous bouncer on a ridiculous power trip. Guy was screaming “reservations only,” at groups of passersbyers that weren’t even trying to come in. You’re not the new box, calm down and fire that hideous man
Easy to make a reservation and got in with no problem! We were seated in the back at a table but did have the option to wait for a seat at the bar. When we walked back to the table we could hardly see it was so dark — only a few lights on at their dimmest setting and candles on the tables. It was also incredibly loud. Their cocktails aren’t cheap at $21 each and mine was mostly ice but they do provide complimentary popcorn so I tricked myself into thinking the cocktail was $15 and the popcorn was $6 to make myself feel better. Overall, be prepared to squint and shout if you are sitting in the back room. Perhaps sitting at the bar is a better experience.
Have always had a great time here, atmosphere, food, and drink are always good. However tonight after settling up a check of over $350, we were asked to move to the bar so that they could reset for the next reservation, while standing in the narrow bar area finishing our drinks the bouncer of the establishment tried to get through. I moved closer to the wall thinking I had made enough space for him, when it wasn’t, he thought it was appropriate to physically push me out of the way and yell at me aggressively. As someone who is a third of his size, I felt unsafe and threatened in an establishment I used to love. Very disappointed in the behavior this bar is making permissible by their employee.
One of my favorite spots, very elegant and nice atmosphere.
Had a reservation and then met up with a group of people with a 10 person reservation, the bouncer refused to let one person in our reservation in, despite the bar not being full and our table mostly empty. Bouncer went inside to the bar, went out of his way to interrogate everyone at the table and yelled at me for 5 minutes saying he wasn’t going to let anymore people in, our whole table asked the host and wait staff to let them but didn’t work so we ended up leaving
Extrememly unpolite bouncer, like nothing else. Horrible service
I was recommended this bar by my hotel. I used to go out a ton in nyc and have encountered the doorman Disco at several other establishments and have had no issue getting in. I don’t know what he is going through but to turn away a single guest on a cold Tuesday dead night with the lie that I needed to make a res is simply poor customer service. I will order my bottle of krug somewhere else
A speak easy classy bar.Difficult to find unless someone tells you about the lizard sign on the front door. Great atmosphere. The dimly lit surroundings adds to the bar atmosphere. Excellent snacks. Limited single malts menu and even in that what we ordered had run out.Clearly need to do a better job on inventory management. The sweetness in the espresso martini needs to be tempered
The bouncer told us to step back when we were at a normal distance. I see he does this to everyone according to the reviews here. Must be some sort of power trip thing. The atmosphere is nice, drinks are fun. Me and my date were very confused by the DJ who was playing trap music like it was a college bar though. Didn’t feel appropriate for a lounge context.
Extremely disappointing experience. The bouncers were unbelievably rude, treating customers with zero respect. It felt like they went out of their way to be aggressive and unwelcoming. A night out should be enjoyable, but their behavior completely ruined it for me. I’ll never come back to this place, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a good time. Save yourself the trouble and find a spot where customers are treated with basic decency.
What use to be a lovely, old world, chic bar I use to frequent has become a stale room with out of date, unfashionable rules. I had a reservation and when I showed up was told that shorts were frowned upon in this establishment, on a 86 degree day. Meanwhile I saw people wearing denim summer dresses and converse shoes. What could have been an incredible come back story for this place post pandemic has become a joke with outdated, old fashioned and the complete opposite of a trend forward, relevant place.
My friend and I walked in with no reservation. We were just hung out in the area and saw this bar nearby. I love the vibe of the place, interior and style of secret bar. No name of the bar outside only symbol of animal skeleton next to the door. The host was super nice to us, and we told her we can just sit at the bar because we didnt reserve the table. She brought us to waiting area, but we were still able to order some drinks while waiting. Drinks are fantastic, my friend who is also a bartender gave them a compliment. They did a great job with martini straight up with a twist. For my drink I had spicy flamingo, it is Tequila blanco, watermelon, lime, agave & chili salt. With good service, great drinks and sexy atmosphere, we will definitely go back and invite more friend next time.
Bar staff and drinks are pretty awesome, even tho overpriced. But the guys at the door are total bullies and weirdos. They’ll turn you away simply for not having reservations and are extremely rude and dismissive about it. The last time I went there was a weekday late at night, and in January, but they wouldn’t let me in lol. I work in this industry and I understand they’re just trying to build hype. This place was much better under old management. Whoever makes the rules here is just turning down money if they’re not trying to fit in walk-ins. But why be so rude? That’s not the hospitality industry.
Terrible experience. The bouncers were unnecessarily aggressive and had a horrible attitude. From the moment I arrived, it felt like they were doing everything they could to make the night unpleasant. No one deserves to be treated like that when they’re just trying to enjoy a night out. This place clearly doesn’t value its patrons. I won’t be coming back, and I suggest others avoid it too.
Stunning upgrade from its old school vibe. THE place to do amazing cocktails. Avoid the back and stay at the bar to enjoy the ambiance.
I was looking forward to treating my friend for his birthday. I arrived first, was seated at the walk-in area at the bar, and then noticed a guy come in with a collarless t-shirt and shorts. I thought, man, way to dress down at a fancy bar! Then I noticed another woman getting up to leave because her date was not going to be allowed in -- he was wearing shorts. I quickly asked the hostess: could my friend come in if he has shorts on? Yes, she said, if he had closed-toed shoes. She spoke to the bouncer about it, but seemed uncertain. Turns out the bouncer wasnt having it. My friend, in a collared shirt and clean crisp shorts and designer sneakers, was not even allowed to enter to get me to leave. The apologetic hostess explained that the kid in the ratty t-shirt had a reservation. This is not how downtown/New York/the world is supposed to function.
I’m not sure what all the bad reviews here are about but we had a great time here last weekend. Service was great and yes I can see why people may say the servers may be dramatic but IMO not in a bad way! Servers had great style and attitude, which made the night more fun. Would definitely come back again!
The bar man begged me for a tip on front of a family of 4, I said why would I pay you a tip and he said I made you cocktails, embarrassing
Temple bar used to be my favorite spot in the entire city, like i went at least once a week. The cocktails are great, good vibe, service is excellent. BUT the door guy has completely ruined the experience to the point where I feel obligated to leave a review for the sake of the general public. He’s actively hostile, even if you have a reservation (which i get but don’t you want people at your bar?) he’s rude and condescending. Whenever I say I have one more person coming, and the staff inside say it’s ok he makes it a problem. I never go anymore because never in my life have i been treated so poorly. Genuinely do not go til they get rid of him.
Not exactly the same vibe since its reopening but still the same beautiful bar inside. It was a perfect low-key place with amazing craft cocktails. Now its pushing hard on the lounge vibe, keeping it super dark and hiring an attractive wait staff. Still, very tasty cocktails but just feels like its trying too hard.
A stylish speakeasy with good (but nothing crazy) cocktails and dim lit ambiance. It was not super busy at around 8pm on Saturday night. The service was great.
Went here after dinner. We had made a reservation beforehand on Resy. Strongly recommend you make a reservation versus just showing up. It is a small lounge, therefore, if it is full booked they will not let you in without the reservation. The ambiance was low key, low lighting and gave off a very chill, cool vibe. The cocktails are mixed on point. The music was perfect to set the mood.Highly recommend for going on a date or out w a few friends for good conversation.
Went with no reservations, was standing and then got a bar seat with a friend. We each had two drinks, they’re all good it really just depends on what you’re in the mood for and your taste preferences.9/10
I arrived with 2 other girls. The security was very mean started to ask us to step back and we were not close to him, normal social distancing. And he kept asking us to step back instead of just talk to us and let us know the way to go inside. We were just trying to have a fun night and ended up been disrespected by the doorman!! I am never coming back.
Ive lived in this city for 20 yrs, ive never reviewed a bar or club in that entire time, the door guy working this place is easily the worst person ive come across. Period. And i also hate returning food.
My wife and I have been coming to temple bar for several years. Anytime we are in the area it is our go to speakeasy bar. This has been a bar we have recommended to many people and the cocktails have always been amazing. Last night we tried to come in around 1am. We walked up with a group of 4 we walked up to the door before we can even say anything he says “I cannot help you” we question further and ask for clarification and then we ask if we can come in for a drink he continues to just repeat “I cannot help you” several more times as we continue to ask questions (how long is the wait? Can we come in without a reservation?) only words he could say was “I cannot help you”. As we have been coming for years we were shocked by this remarkably unprofessional service. In the end we just ended up leaving and are rather discouraged from returning here again based on the bouncers lack of professionalism. A simple “we are not available for non-reservations” would have been an easy and simple response and we would have continued to come back for another night as that is understandable. But what we experienced was simply unacceptable.
Appreciated that when we were moved during to make space for a larger party, we were given a glass of champagne as compensation. Also had wonderful service. Great space and excellent atmosphere.
Classics Done Right!Reopened speakeasy with great atmosphere and hospitality, and a classic only cocktail list. But the classics are done with the highest perfection and balance. Only thing to complain is the slightly higher price tag. But is it worth it? Youll be the judge.P.S do not miss the Penicillin.
The door guy Disco used to work at Hair of the Dog and now thinks he’s the Jamie Dimon of nightlife - it’s a random bar not a NYFW Balenciaga Show. We had *reservations* yet he still found a way to be unbelievably rude. This place was hot for a month but now has a boomer Red Lion crowd without the shorts. Only redeeming quality is the popcorn.
While the drinks are what you come for, you cannot avoid the horrific service. While exclusivity is often an asset in Manhattan, this feels manufactured. Rude waitstaff and a holier than thou attitude dictate everything here
After dinner, the girls and I went to this bar to get drinks. When we arrived they had bouncers checking IDs at the door. When we walked in the place was dimly lit. We sat close to the DJ. A very nice young lady was our server. My friends ordered a pina colada drink and another drink. The music was good and we had a pretty good time.
I had the same experience as the other one-star reviewers. If you insist on having an inconsistent, mind-boggling dress code, then make Temple a rez-only establishment. You can send a checklist to your guests as part of the confirmation. That would be the hospitable thing to do.
I would not come here. The person at the door (who only questionably worked there) was rude, intoxicated, and offensive. They do not respect their patrons here. We were a group of 4 beautiful women and he was less-than hospitable.
We had a table for 4 and ordered a couple of drinks and food. We had a good time until the waiter charged us for drinks we didn’t order. The service was bad; we had to call the waiter multiple times to order drinks, and he was not attentive at all. When we tipped him, he became dramatic about the tip amount. Overall atmosphere is aesthetic, too dark and a bit pricey. Not coming back for sure.
Great time. Loads of fun.
Classic cocktails, mysterious ambiance. Looks like you are in a 1950s movie with velvet couches and dimmed lights. Waitstaff is nice. Prices are outrageous though.
Really poor door staff, they insist I have a reservation but also allow people in without them. Wish the door guy didn’t dress like bum for such a classy establishment.
Trust me. Have a cocktail, order a plate. So much fun!
If you make it past being assaulted by the bouncer, you’ll come to find a boring vibe with watered down drinks. Truly an overall waste of time at this wanna be chic establishment.
Great place for a pre dinner cocktail
Hands down my favorite bar in New York - book in advance on Resy to avoid disappointment
Worst service ever! By people not working behind the bar, including the bouncer!
Cocktails are top🤌 better to make a reservation even on weekdays, place is pretty busy and if they dont have chairs- u dont have a spot.
Awesome vibes, even better staff. Love the aesthetic in there, especially the bar that runs along half the space. Drinks were incredible.
One of my favorite cocktail bars in the city. A few of my favorite drinks from Attaboy made it over to their menu and every new cocktail Ive tried has been top notch. Love the vibe for a date night or just drinks with a friend in a fun but not insanely loud setting. Only knock is its impossible to get into on the weekends (at least in my experience) and the weekend bouncer is not the most personable dude Ive encountered (I hope its not just me giving off a bad vibe!). Highly recommend you make a reservation if at all possible; youll be glad you did.
My boyfriend and I visited without a reservation. Although they managed to seat us, the staff seemed a bit indifferent(boring). On the plus side, the cocktails were outstanding.
Great place, staff could be better. The doorman needs to go
We are not doing shorts its 95 degrees. Barf. Does disco have a 401k. Get this guy to Florida. What does this place even offer anymore. So lame...
Rude door guy. I totally understand last call, and that they can’t allow new guests, but his behavior was unnecessary. Off-putting.
Good cocktails and atmosphere
Very sceney place, impossible to get into without reservations. I didn’t take photos, not the vibe and didn’t want to seem lame.
Bouncer is really creepy and rude
Amazing food, it all came out very fast even though the restaurant was packed. best espresso martinis & the waiters were so nice
Dark and lovely. Great service and nibbles. Make sure to make a reservation. Thank goodness this place came back!
Bouncer was extremely rude to my friends
Temple Bar is sexy fun. It’s dark, sleek and just what we were looking for. They have an extensive cocktail menu of well-made drinks and friendly service that will have you coming back again and again.
Awesome cocktails, ambiance and service. Old school interior with a modernized cocktail menu. Will definitely be back
Sexy, delicious. It’s your lucky day if you can get a seat :)
The drinks were subpar.
I WILL NEVER EVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE NOR BRING ANYONE WITH ME EVER AGAIN! BOUNCER BY THE DOOR IS ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING WITH A VERY DISRESPECTFUL ATTITUDE!!!!! THIS IS WHY BUSINESSES LOSE CLIENTELE CUZ THEY HIRE JUST ANYONE!!This place used to be my go to place until the today. I’ve been here more than 6-7 times because I am always out with different friend groups and I always highly recommend this place to every single person that’s out late in the city. But today when my friends that haven’t been there asked me where to go and I was so excited to bring them here. Bouncer by the door who was very busy entertaining few people just smoking outside had an absolutely disrespectful tone of voice and attitude when I tried to enter (just to remind you every single time I’ve been here before not even once I have seen any bouncers by the door which is why I thought he is just a client standing outside talking to his friends cuz he looked very unprofessional). When i was confused because he shouted to me to quote on quote “STEP BACK” with a high tone and nasty attitude, I stood there confused because he was talking to his friends at the same time. Then he looked back at me and quote on quote with a high tone and disrespectful attitude said “I SAID BACK OFF, OT MUST BE YOUR DAY ONE IVE BEEN WORKING HERE FOR YEARS! YOU DONT HAVE A RESERVATION THEN HAVE A NICE DAY, MHM KEEP WALKING” . Just so you know it’s Tuesday midnight, not even one alive soul standing and it’s three of us who would spend good amount on a weekday night out. When we tried to make a reservation at midnight - RESY DOES NOT ALLOW TO MAKE RESERVATIONS AND THERES NO CONTSCT NUMBER TO CONTACT ANYONE INSIDE TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEIR CLIENTS BEING LITERALLY DISRESPECTED BY THEIR SO CALLED “WORKING SINCE DAY ONE SECURITY”. Not even once I’ve seen him there and not even once when I needed a reservation ESPECIALLY ON A WEEKDAY. I go to more respected places and not even once they asked me for a reservation on a weekday ESPECIALLY AT MIDNIGHT!We all had to stand there confused, disrespected and I was absolutely embarrassed in front of my friends who I spoke so highly of this place.NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE AND ALL THE CLIENTELE I SENT HERE I WILL MAKE SURE TO LET THEM KNOW HOW DISRESPECTFUL THEIR STAFF ARE AND HOW IGNORANT THE MANAGEMENT IS FOR HIRING SUCH CARELESS INDIVIDUALS.NEVER HAVE I EVER BEEN DISRESPECTED THIS WAY BY ANY PLACE IVE BEEN TO. I HOPE THE MANAGEMENT AND OWNER TAKES PROPER ACTIONS AND DONT LET ANY OTHER CLIENT GET DISRESPECTED THIS MUCH BY SOME INCOMPETENT INDIVIDUAL.DO BETTER!06/05/24 12:55AM
Great drinks great vibes
It may not be truly vintage, but it replicates that 40s vibe in decor, cocktails and clientele, without being overly hip or off putting. Try the olive oil martini!
The two gents patrolling the entryway are cool dudes. And the inside is marvelous. Nice place!
Garbage establishment with a ridiculous 7PM dress code in the summer when anyone with a modicum of culture knows that its namesake, “Temple Bar,” is where people in Dublin go to get drunk and fight each other.
First time back in a while. This bar used to be cool, but is trying too hard to be its old self. Better spots in the city to be found.
Outrageous service
Ah, Temple Bar, the once-coveted haunt that now reeks of desperation and dated decor, desperately clinging to a past that has decidedly passed it by. This bars idea of a vintage vibe comes off more like a yard sale mishmash than chic nostalgia. As for the drinks, they’re as uninspired as the playlist. The bartenders would be more at home in a silent film than a modern mixology scene. If youre looking for a place to relive the good old days, you might be better off flipping through an old yearbook at home.
Great place to grab drinks. They even make their own ginger ale
The tall black guy outside is so rude! He is just taking people by his interests.
An upscale cocktail bar, which are a dime a dozen in New York. Nothing about this place wowed me. Drinks were just okay, but I expected more for a $25 cocktail. Dimly lit but had to shout across the table just to hear what my friend was saying. Nothing to write home about.
Awful service from bartender. He was initially dancing w other clients obviously not taking orders and when finally decided to get back to work has the audacity to do it with an attitude. Tipped him 5 bucks for 4 drinks and complained about it to my friend for not giving the “suggested 20%”. I don’t get tipped at work for under performing. Should’ve gotten $0 based on actual service. Never again.
Very chic, dark, love the popcorn. Dress nice
Like the ambience inside. i went in tuesday by myself. weekend might be difficult without reservation
Ok so who goes out but if you do stop by eat a pig in a blanket. The staff is amazing :)
Best date spot in NYC currently. Drinks are good and the ambiance is even better.
A poorly mannered, rude bouncer, who was unable to make up his decision about the entry rules. At first we were told, that 6 of us was way too many to get in, after a few seconds he said we couldnt actually have a drink there without a reservation either, in a second he added actually the four of us he can let in, even without reservation..so we thought OK, we wont split up, but the two of us will go in to see if its worth even booking a table next time. Suddenly, he changed his mind again, and said even two of us couldnt get in.. Im surprised the owner keeps such rude employees to discourage the guest from coming there again:(. All in all we went to KYU, next door. Great atmoshere and service, no wait time and excellent drinks :)
The service was mediocre. We ordered the shrimp and it was rancid 🤢! My husband tasted it and he agreed! They did not change us for the small plate. My husband ordered the ravioli and it was very good. I ordered the chicken wings. They were tasty, but came in a bowl. There was no plate or bowl provided to put the used bones on. The chicken was very sticky and no extra napkins or wet towels provided for your fingers.Great people watching. Overall the food and service was +\-!
The “bouncers” are racist. They said “go home and eat your pizza” because I was carrying a pizza take out box in my hand and the bouncer justified it by saying he’s Indian so he can say it to me 😊. All this because we asked if there are any openings. Friday and Saturdays is the time for these subpar places to go on their power trips that have nothing to offer other than their stinky attitude 🤮 I have breezed through this place multiple times on the weekdays with them struggling to fill up. Shameless.
Lovely.
Cocktails ✅, ambience ✅, service ✅.TB is now a staple for me. I know what to expect. My cocktail will be on point, they have an incredible menu. Even some yummy ones for when alcohol is not my friend. 😜The food menu is tasty. (I tend to get the stuffed cucumbers + oysters).I actually like to go at the beginning of the week - it’s super chill and great to catch up with friends (good date spot too). But when there’s a DJ, the music is ssso good!(Pro tip: just know the dress code. It’s NY!)
Denied me service due to being disabled and having a service dog. the owners were called directly who gave three different excuses–all illegal. this business is being reported and I heavily encourage not to go here due to the negligent and rude behavior I experienced directly because I am disabled.
I can see why this bar has such a low rating. It’s a glorified Cheesecake Factory bar in a pretentious setting (and I love a good boujee vibe). Don’t waste your time and be sure to check out any other cocktail bar near by lol but for real.
Such cool interiors i liked the como spritz
Drinks were great. Service sucked.
No shorts lol, in 2022. A farce. No mention of a dress code on the website of course.
Would like to have visited. Told I didn’t need a reservation. Showed at appointed time and was told I did.
Try the Penicillin. Ginger & citrus make this a fruity drink without being sweet.
My wife and I had the best time ever! Even though it was PACKED we managed to get a table and secure our spot for the night. Though it was packed we never had a huge issue getting drinks. The band was fantastic and we had an incredible time! It’s a MUST when visiting.
Loved the staff and ambiance, didn’t care for the crowd.
Bar is too mid to have a bouncer that rude lol
I was third in line and there was 1 person behind me. The bouncer asked everyone for I.D. so I already had mine out. He asked me if I had a reservation I said no I didnt. He immediately started speaking to the person behind me. I was surprised because I was wearing a suit. I felt like if I didnt turn back around to inform him that I was here to order food to go I wouldnt have been allowed inside.
Martini menu to die for
This place has been on my want to go list for some time. We finally decided to go check it out. It was a good experience overall. It was darker than I expected inside, funny enough it was brighter outside at 7pm, but get its part of the ambiance. I was excited to try the martinis, however I was only allowed to have one as we had a long night ahead of us, so it was tough to choose which one I wanted to try, I end up getting the Dirty Vodka Martini (I also wanted to try the Gibson, Oliver Oil and Vesper, next time!).The only thing I would say is that while we understand there is a time limit, we felt really rushed by the end when we still had 30 minutes left. We had one hostess come up to say we had 25 minutes left, and then 2 minutes later, we had another hostess tell us we had 15 minutes. So I ended up having to chug my drink instead of enjoying it. I felt bad for the table next to us as they just sat down for probably 30 minutes, and they were told they had to give up the table shortly too.(See pictures in Photos section)
Great place to take a date and eat light and have a few drinks !
Horrible, abysmal place with awful service and an even ruder bouncer. Avoid at all cost.
Our group of four was turned away at 9pm on a Monday because I was wearing shorts. The place was almost completely empty. Easiest few hundred dollar check they’ve lost?
Mid bar on a kind of secretive intimate setting. Drinks are ok for what they charge.
This is a very cool place with excellent cocktails and atmosphere
Staff upfront is terrible, they have no manners and don’t know how to speak to customers.Terrible...
One of the best martinis in the city!
Staff was discriminatory. Predator vibes. Feels like a place you’d get roofied
With a Dry Martini in one hand you may ask, if the temple is where one worships!? in Latin templum probably. But here in NYC, Lafayette St, this place is the temple of fun and great time to be with friends. Cool atmosphere.
Discriminatory staff…
Amazing drinks and the music is always on point. Have yet to try the food, but will report back when I do!
While the ambiance inside is nice, the tall bouncer out front is so unbelievably rude, in a shockingly inhuman way. He wouldn’t let my brother in whose wife recently passed away, even though we had a table and could fit him. Absolutely no conscience or empathy, just shameful. Please go somewhere else, no human deserves to be treated like that.
I went with friends and the bouncer was adamant that we would not get in without a reservation. Meanwhile, while we were chatting, he let multiple groups of women in without asking if they had a reservation or not. This place is absolutely not an inclusive place. Do not waste your time coming here, especially on the weekend.
Very cool spot with delicious cocktails - wanted to go back the very next weekend!
The door guys were rude as hell. They denied me because I wasn’t with a hot girl but idk I get the vibe so 2 stars
I frequented Temple Bar during the late 00s and early 10s but I was late to the news that they had closed in 2017. Luckily, I came across a New York Times article about their re-opening and I was able to go back and relive old memories in the revived location. Jesse, the manager, runs a tight ship and knows how to treat patrons well from the door to the bar. The bar staff is great (props to Gavin) and the popcorn is still there. The signature cocktails are crafted with care and attentiveness. Reservations are required, unlike before, so be prepared. Veteran NYC nightlife doorman, Disco, manages the front door.
Swanky martini lounge. The drinks here are phenomenal, its so worth it to do the caviar bump paired with the martinis. Staff is always so nice and knowledgeable.
Great decor, enjoyed the ambiance, attentive staff.
Old school cool NYC … worth a visit
I’ve lived in the city long enough to say that this place has the worst bouncer at night. I came here with my girl friends and we loved the ambience and drinks. Then I came back after dinner because some of my other friends decided to go. The bouncer at night is nasty who basically told me to go away after I told him my friends are inside. His colleague saw I was scolded for no reason but wouldn’t say a word. Is this how women should he treated these days? Absolutely not. So I’m boycotting this place. The wannabes
Cocktails are good. Space is small and somewhat cramped-not very interesting. Kind of place you go once and never return. Free popcorn. Okay I guess.
Excellent cocktail bar. Try the blue Negroni
So glad to see this place open again! Love the charm and decor.
I’ve never encountered a more rude “bouncer” in my life. Was with three of my girlfriends and he acted horribly to us and turned us away even though he said they had cancellations. I’ve been before and the drinks were fine but not worth the trouble of dealing with disrespectful staff at the door. Definitely do not recommend.
Reopened with new management. Dark, candle-lit tables of hip crowds. Drinks are decent but nothing outstanding. Come mainly for the ambiance and imitate setting.
Had a horrible experience here specifically at the front door. The man was pretty rude and didn’t want to entertain us cause he was in a bad mood. The server came out and told him that we had spots available inside but he refused to acknowledge and insisted that the place was full. Pathetic experience
Worst place! Racist staff! No dress code mentioned on website but in the meantime they will profile you and make up a dress code on the spot. Door guy was so rude and disrespectful!
Great date spot! Cool music
Have a nice night
Myself and 2 girlfriends dropped by for a drink, and were met with a very rude bouncer who before we could even walk up said door is closed for you ladies which seemed rude and unnecessary when we hadnt done anything wrong.
Nice once inside but bouncer was on a power trip and would not let me join friends who were 10 feet away waiting for me. Not cool enough to justify that attitude .
Extremely rude and self important all around, fromdoor to bar. Do not bother going here, this place is a shadow of what it used to be. If I want to be made to feel like an invisible nothing, there are far better places to go.
Sam is the Queen!!
A New York institution. I’m so glad it is open again!
Gloriously dark inside, the drinks are incredible.
Bad. not good.
Brilliant as always.

Great bar, speakeasy atmosphere, rather chic…
Nasty doormen.
