Wish I would’ve read the reviews before showing up at this establishment. We’re from Montreal and heard this used to be the cool spot to go ( relatively still is happening) and thought we’d check it out since we had friends already partying inside. We showed up, two really well dressed couples and were told very abruptly by the woman at the door that without a reservation we can’t go in but can have access to the bar before the entry. We agreed since we were already there but when we entered the vibe was very boring and there was only 2-3 other people there and could clearly see from the other back door being opened how much cooler the Inside looked. The place wasn’t even packed so my friends boyfriend went back out to ask if there’s anyway we can have access very politely to find out they didn’t want to let us in because of the way he was dressed. The two people at the door were very rude afterwards. My friends are bloggers and are stylish AF. They clearly are selective about the faces the like and don’t and I didn’t understand the sudden attitude. We were ready to have a fun night and spend money in their establishment. Upon walking out and passing by the bouncer outside he said out loud“ Go on, get outta here” as if we were not welcome. DUDE YOU ARE SO RUDE! WHO THE FK SAYS THAT? I pretended not to hear because I didn’t think it was worth starting an argument over. After reading all these reviews it makes sense. Maybe you guys at rose bar don’t care about having people flock to your establishment but keep hiring staff who have a terrible attitude like this and I doubt your place is going to be a destination on peoples list. So many cool spots in NYC to compete with. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.
Two nicely dressed black women... we were turned away. The door guy said we looked gorgeous but it was VIP only plus already at capacity. We stuck around a bit .... the next group of white girls (not VIP) got in after chatting with the door guy, while we were still standing there ... 🙄
Horrible service! What a poor service for such a pricy place that’s not even that great since this is NYC. I used to come regularly to this place on Monday with my friends, and last night I had the most horrible experience, the waitress was very rude, she took a long time to come to the table to give us the menu, to take our order and then she never checked out on us. I kindly asked for my check and she threw it to me in a nasty, rude way in front of my friends in the table. Then she never came to pick up the check with the card, so I had to go to the bar to pay, the bartender gave the check to her, she did the payment and walked right by my side, to leave the check on the table, when she saw me standing up right in front of her!!! I had to go to the table and realized that there wasn’t a pen to sign up the receipt. The waitress was upset because I asked her just for my check and then she behaved this way. It seems to me that this place wants to make clear to you that you should feel lucky to be there, because it’s about how “exclusive” the bar is, not about giving a good service and treatening you well. Yes the bar is nice, but this place is not that great. Not coming back here. It’s ridiculous how pretentious and rude staff are.
Always a great spot when its cold outside, great atmosphere and good drinks. A little pricey but I can see the value in it.Service was not the best as the poor waiter had to take care of the whole place by herself during our visit.
Bouncer was rude, and disgusting to say the least. One minute he told us we couldnt enter but when we started having drinks from the bar outside a few seconds after he allowed us in. The vibe is awesome. Wanna get down the u need to visit this place
Rose Bar has been around for ages and is still a nice place to grab drinks with friends. Cocktails are inventive and tasty. Service is pleasant and attentive. The atmosphere is dark, warm, and enjoyable. A nice option for cocktails in Gramercy.
The staff were completely inattentive, especially the bartender, who was rarely at the bar. When I did manage to find staff members, they repeatedly failed to pass on my order. The order was inevitably incomplete when it finally arrived. It wasnt a cold day, but they were burning wood anyway, trying to hang onto a perception of ambiance thats as outdated as their artwork around the room.
Expensive but a great room to bring a date or live it up with company. The current art on the walls is a fantastic high gloss look at (mostly) music celebs. Good for conversation.
Always a great go-to place for Thursday or Friday. Jazz band is great.
Great music, good (almost great)overpriced food and drinks. Snotty service if you are not dressed up. Give me a break - this is NYC - the richest person in the room can be in jeans. Also - it’s just not fun year round (but is super fun during the winter holidays).
The Rose Bar is one of the most incredible drinking dens in the world. With famous artworks by Warhol and Basquiat up on the walls and a red velvet pool table in the back, make sure you make nice with the doorman, hes could be a real prick!
Bouncers are straight up unkind to people. Drinks are subpar at best. And it’s clearly a place for older guys to try finding younger women. Lots of other better places in the area.
Beautiful atmosphere, drinks are obviously perfect- expensive but what do you expect from this type of bar in this location? Extremely romantic, great to bring your SO
I sat at the bar with a friend and drank, and then I went out to the bar outside and sat there for an hour, then tried to come in again and told me to ask for a stamp. I asked the girl several times and she ignored me and asked me to go. I was very sad about my behavior, The setai miami hotel Versace hotel will not go there again, and post it to all my friends!!!!!!!!!
Music was too loud to have a conversation. Trendy place to been seen and to see. Expensive drinks. Typical Manhattan scene but with loud live music.
Can only speak to the scene before 10pm which is pretty mellow before the DJ and the bottle service begin.. Great space with a roaring fireplace in winter.
This bar is supposed to be high level service. It took me 20 minutes to waitress takes our order. It took almost one hour to get some water. Now I would like the check. Who knows how long it will take. Worst service ever.
Do not let those strange bouncers ruin your evening. Human resources work in a mysterious way sometimes... I was expecting a more sophisticated place.
Atmosphere is phenomenal and the drinks are very tasty. A little overpriced but you can say that about a ton of places in the city.
The little front bar is fine but ridiculously expensive. I say that as a New Yorker. The main bar is awesome but good luck getting in. Bring a celebrity.
This place turns into a club after 11:00. If youre there beforehand youre welcome to stay. If youre staying at the hotel I would highly suggest it.
Majestic, never too crowded, never know whom you are going to run into. Great music, great staff cozy feel.
A really cool bar with decent cocktails, cool photographs of celebrities and smoky smell from the wood fireplaces...I really want to love this place but you have to forgive the pretentious service and attitude of the workers and the exorbitant price of the drinks.
Super chic and extra expensive cocktails. 2 days a week live-jazz music and club after 10pm in the weekends.

Really nicely decorated.Good looking people.Good looking waitresses & bartenders. Not sure what all the hype is about.
Fabulous drinks, fabulous staff! Have never had a poor experience hanging out here.
Looked like a decent place but I got a way to pretentious speech about wait lists and high end cover charges for a Tuesday night.
What you see in your minds eye when youre imagining an upscale hotel lobby bar. Elegant and cozy.
Come as a couple, not a group. You wont be able to hear each other unless youre within inches.
Good high end spot but u gotta take care of security guys to get in
I really like this place. small but intimate...will def come back!
Great drinks, hot staff ;) and the best clientele in the world.
I love coming here for cocktails and enchanting atmosphere.
Stupid black door men do not knew how to to run the place on friday and so rude..
I love this place! Definitely will come back
Nice cozy place with really strong drinks. They have live jazz some nights till 9 and then it turns into a dance club. Music is great and the place gets full but not elbow jabbing jammed like other clubs. Perfect high end spot for a date, and a dance or lounge on the side at one of the tables.
Nice cocktails, and a lot of cool, funky decor and paintings or photos. Otherwise the place leaves much to be desired... the ridiculous line to get in while there is plenty of space inside... the music... spent about 45 minutes to an hour here and had no desire to stay... To fancy for their own good...
Terrible place. Avoid it at all cost.I went with there with 2 friends. We had drinks. Service was slow, but fine at the beginning. At some point server decided that we left (I was still at the table waiting for our drinks) and took candle from our table. I asked him what was the problem the reply was I have to leave the place. No explanation. He took my hand and walked my out, my purse and umbrella were still inside. We were still waiting for drinks. Outside They asked us to pay the bill, charged us for last round of drinks (we never got them) and 20% tip. I asked for a manager. There were no manager. Tip was about 80$. I will talk to my bank.Terrible service and management. I should have called a cops.
Exclusive fancy place... very nice if you don’t mind the pretentious service and snobby attitude of the bouncer. Very New York taking away half full drinks, but don’t complain about it otherwise they will bring you an empty glass... probably not yours...but who cares! They took away the pool table so don’t trust the pictures.
Had an amazing time at Saturday night for girls night out. Deja at the door was awesome! The music is a perfect mix of 00s hip hop and current. The vibe is ideal and it was not too crowded. Highly recommend for a night out!
Absolutely Awesome! And great views too!
Awesome spot for drinks. Live jazz tuesdays. Recommend the Black Monk Old Fashioned
The bar/lounge areas are great! The service is awful! Only because of service there is no desire to come back to that place... I had multiple experiences with bad service over there and thought that it might be due to a particular waitress, but as it turned out it is not... the attitude of the waiting staff should be definitely changed !
Had another memorable night at the Rose Bar. We were happily nestled in the bar for the evening people-watching and drinking very generous pourings of Macallan single malt. We made new best friends, made the fashion statement of the evening (I was head-to-toe in holiday Ralph Lauren: Martini Bear sweater, Black Watch pants and bow tie) - so many positive comments - made me drink more and more scotch. The bartender (whose name Id neglected to secure) earns bartender of the year from me; an asset to the Rose Bar. To top things off, we were told that we would be granted access behind the coveted velvet curtains. Funny, I really dig the vibe of the small upfront bar that I may be just as happy sitting there. Either way, no trip to NYC is complete without visiting this super watering hole in Gramercy Park.
Friendly bartenders and nice decor, seating is comfortable but oddly situated once the club atmosphere sets in since there isnt really any area spacious enough to dance, paid 20 bucks each for two of the worst whiskey sours Ive ever had.
Good Jazz band on the Tuesdays. Nice cocktails and truffle French fries
I was turned away from the entrance because I was with a male friend and they refused to let two men in together. Oddly enough, the black doorman then proceeded to allow two black men in together and proceeded to tell me there is nothing I could do to get in the club. I informed them my girlfriend was coming and she would go in with me to which they responded she didnt come with me so Im not getting in. This is reverse racism at its finest.
We checked into the hotel and the front desk told us that the concierge could put us on the list to get into the Rose Bar. After a certain time in the evening you need to be on the list to gain entry. The concierge confirmed our entry on the list for four and we went about our day.We were the first of our party to arrive and we walked up to the curtain where there was a bouncer standing there with a list. I gave him my last name and he scanned the list and then told us that we were not on the list. I said we are guests of the hotel and the concierge put us on the list. He got rude and said well you arent on the list. So, I said ok well I am going to go talk to the concierge and ask them. He then changed his tune and said Im going to let you in but, next time make sure you are on the list or stay at the hotel. I wasnt going to argue the point that we were staying at the hotel. By this time the rest of our party was standing behind us and we all walked in together and then they asked what the problem was. We told them and then we scanned around to see if there was anywhere to sit. There wasnt and the music was super loud and also the bartenders looked a little overwhelmed. The music wasnt bad it was just definitely too amplified for the room and not conducive to a conversation so, we decided to exit and go to the Jade Bar.The next morning we spoke to the same concierge who put us on the list and she stated that she was sure that we had been on the list, looked it up and we were. She also said that they have this issue often and that the bar is operated by a separate management company than the hotel. She apologized profusely for how they treated us and looked completely embarrassed. I wouldnt event try to get on the list when we stay at the hotel again because I would rather walk down the street and not deal with a door guy who feels powerful just because he has a clipboard/list in his hand. If he was looking for a tip so that we could get in that wasnt going to happen; especially not with his rude attitude.
Great service here. The waiter was very polite and he suggested a delicious beer.
Great music today! Very nice friendly lady at the door. All was good.
Theres nothing rosy or sexy when this place is a racist establishment with unfriendly staffs and rude bouncers. Its probably the same black bouncer as the others reviewed earlier. We went there last night, as it was Saturday and thought itd be a good idea to swing by and see what the buzz is about. We were wrong. 5 of us, 4 being Asian and 1 good looking friend whos French. We are all out of towners so we were looking forward to it. Guess what? Only the French was allowed in and we were being pushed physically by the bouncer, saying reservation only. He was aggressive to us. When we told him, our friend just went in 2 seconds ago, he said no, you cannot go in. By that time we just wanted to grab our friend and leave. But since our friend was already inside, we could only wait. They wouldnt even allow us to step in to look for our friend. Im displeased by what happened. We finally managed to meet our friend again after waiting for twenty some minutes. No matter how cool or must see this place is, itll never get a dollar from us. We had to leave and will never return. Pretentious, unfriendly establishments like this should never be encouraged.
Want here on Saturday, very nice vibe and great atmosphere.Enjoyable evening.
I grew up in NYC and I have never seen something like this before!! I called over the phone and spoke with a Sarah and asked her if we need to RSVP; she said no. I had guest from Europe and I decided to take them here. We showed up at the door and two guys said we need RSVP. So I called back and spoke with Sarah again and she said I need RSVP and the guys at the door can arrange that. I told this to the guys and they were very rude. They said they can’t help me and they cannot take us in meanwhile everyone else is going in. This is NYC!!! We shouldn’t have been treated this way. The guys were so rude mean and talked down to me. I have never been treated like this anywhere and this was overwhelmingly embarrassing. Did we not show enough legs and cleavage ??? I guess we didn’t fit the criteria of the customers. This tells me a lot about this place!! Stay away!! Especially if you’re a tourist stay away! No one should be subjected to this type of treatment. I shouldn’t be shut down and turned away. And if I am being turned away, there is a certain dialogue and demeanor to it! Not degrading people like this!!
I adore the hotel and particularly the Rose bar. What a wonderfully.,Intamitably
Their DJ is the best! I go every Wednesday because my friends and i love the vibe but he’s definitely the top reason!
Very cool place, not too fancy. Love the bright photographic art.
Wow! The bar is elegant and they play all kinds of music for all.
An excellent place for people who have no idea how to have fun!
Great bar. Great service. Great drinks.
My bag was stolen from here and the entire staff was completely rude about it. No one offered to help me look and basically stared at me blankly and said sorry nothing we can do. Will never be going back here!
My friends worst experience to have a drink in Rose bar. My friend was having a drink & he stepped out to use the restroom. On his way back one the gentleman who works by te door (entrance) who saw him going to use the restroom stopped him for a stamp & told him since he doesn’t have a stamp he can not go back to the bar to finish your drink & I have stil his credit card at the bar....but he told him to go to different entrance & wait on the line for around 20 min since there was a line & get stamp. He spoke to the Lady who works at the door & tried to explain his situation & she didn’t wanna even listen, she was rude, unprofessional, disrespectful. Can’t believe such a high class place hires rude people. P.S
Great date spot for drinks and for meeting your friends as well.
Pricy at $18/drink but well worth it. Great atmosphere with a live 30s style band playing on a Thursday. DJ came on around 9:30 or 10.
Iconic NYC bar inside the Gramercy Park Hotel. Comfy seating, great cocktails, and classic NY people watching!
Cool performances and solid jazz, but terrible service considering the price point. I’d suffer through this again if I was with out of town guests who want those celeb sightings.
Expensive and not really that good.We were both disappointed. Thought it was something nicer.
One of my favorite bars in side a awesome hotel
The drinks are good and strong and the decor is interesting, but the service is slow and some of the staff is quite rude. For the price you pay, you can surely find a better bar with comparable drinks.
Should you come here? No. Dont have time to go down the reasons. Just no.
If you dont have a reservation to go into the back area, dont bother coming here. Doorman was a bit rude. He has a big beard, not very intelligent, didnt understand that its at his discretion. He wouldnt take money.
Good drinks great staff
Reading everyones reviews is spot on. BOUNCERS and manager needs to be fired/replaced. I am a mid thirties ED physician. I went there at around 7:30 with my wife and two friends for drinks last Friday evening. At 10pm we went to use the hotel restroom as they dont have one in the bar. Upon returning in 3 minutes, I was told that I was not allowed to reenter the bar. They told me that I for sure did not just leave to use the bathroom. My wife and friends were still inside. They wanted me to prove it. I asked them if they could simply walk 20 feet inside and I will show them my table as I left my phone with my wife and could not text her to come out. They refused. My wife and friend got tired of waiting and eventually came out and they threatened to call the cops if we didnt close our tab before we left. We got the last round dropped and didnt tip (sorry for the waitress). But what a jackass establishment.
Rose bar is good place and u meet ur friends and ur loves wifeAnd he has a many roomes and amay placesess u will be relexySo u get evry food u wantThe really Rose bar is good
Nice lounge when not so crowded
While the drinks are expensive, we love to grab a cocktail here while were waiting to be seated at Maialino. The scene is classy and upscale, and we feel instantly cool just by sitting at the bar.
Swanky cocktail lounge at gramercy park hotel.
Classy crowd, beautiful decor.
So pretentious for no reason. kill me.
Awesome except for pajama boy at the door
Perhaps the most gorgeous bar.
The bouncers are rude and plain lie. Once in, the cocktails are okay, you’ll find the place is basically empty and they had you wait outside for no reason.Never again.
Great place for hanging out with friends
Wow! What an adorable place, i like this without a joke.
Nice and very cool bar i love rose bar
A calming venue with or without crowds.
Great cocktails in a lively bar
Highly suspicious the cleanup or lost items staff keep some of the stuff for themselves.
A really good looking room
They are NOT open despite reviews
My Favorite bar all over the world
