I’m not the one for bad reviews but the service was terrible.Me and my boyfriend came here sun 11/03 a little bit after 12am.First time here.It was packed out to the max but me and my boyfriend managed.But we were completely rubbed the wrong way once we were randomly selected to show ID by a female bartender with shorter dirty blonde hair.She was never insight prior but popped up randomly to question us.Very odd.We were the only ones she asked to show ID.Mind you I’m the only black female there and my Hispanic boyfriend.This was after about 2 1/2 hours of already drinking at the horrid place they call a bar.The bouncers did their job and ID us at the front door.I asked one bartender What kind of margaritas do you have?.She said only classic.Later on, I noticed someone with a margarita but it looked flavored so I asked a different bartender. Do you guys have different flavored margaritas and she said yes and proceeded to name them.Very weird on why two bartenders are telling me two different things.The place is not Up kept at all.They charged my boyfriend over $30 for 2 Jameson shots.Should have read all the other reviews for there service and quality.After reading this is not surprising at all now…Picture below in there bathroom.

Alex R. is the best!!! She made me and my friends feel so welcomed and killer drinks. Today was my second week in a row coming back. 10/10 recommend and they have the best music.

Rays is my local bar when working in NYC! Love the whole vibe! Always made to feel welcome and have met loads of interesting characters sat at the bar. Shout out Hayley and Cheyenne: the BEST bartenders around!

Ill start with the positive. Bar was lively, and had good music. But wish there was more space because it was packed . That could be a good thing or bad.Now for the bad!!!Last call was called ... And once they handed us our drinks ..... They were kicking us out like we were expected to chug them . That is not cool at all.Also drinks.... Some are poorly made ... Mostly ice . Bad...for 20 dollars a cup full of ice.. no ..

Didn’t let my group of 3 guys and 1 girl in because “too many guys”. It was a really bizarre encounter with the doorman. We said if it’s full we’ll wait and he told us that wasn’t the issue. Have not experienced anything like this since trying to get into frat parties 7 years ago in college, really odd behavior for a serious business.

Rays is a really cool, unique place - it gives a divey feel but old school all in one. The atmosphere is fun, pool table and vintage circle booths. We do girls night there when our favorite bartender is working. He always makes sure you feel taken care of even when it’s packed ! Highly recommend :)

I may be in the minority, but I love an upscale dive bar. I cant really put my finger on why, as it is such a blatant contradiction.... but one of my favorite terms is the silence was deafening, so I guess it tracks.Rays is leading the charge of the upscale dive bar from the front, like any good leader should. I do love the versatility of feeling like Im in a no frills environment with sticky checkered floors and a pool table where I can get a beer and a shot ($12), but also get a bomb $18 espresso martini. Gotta stay flowy.I most recently came here for my big homies birthday, as he is known in our friend group as Mr. Rays. He has 12 different colored Rays hats hanging on his walls, which is crazy. Rays is like the Shellback of the Lower East Side. Real ones know.After shaking hands, kissing babies, and downing a couple tequila sodas he began to run that pool table like a prime Efren Reyes. Jesus christ, 20 dollars for a gin tonic in a plastic cup. It feels like theyre cosplaying a rockabilly bar, but its giving gentrification. Ask how much stuff costs before ordering.Reply: Really professional. Are the plastic tumblers at the bar not plastic? Also, teach your bartenders how to do a full count. Im paying for alcohol, not vibes.Have fun scamming the tourists!

Have been going to Rays for years and feels like home. Staff is friendly and helpful, food is great, and the drinks are STRONG. The crowd is always so welcoming and fun — especially love the summer of Tays. Super busy on the weekends so great if you’re looking for a lively scene but quieter on the weeknights which is great for taking bigger groups. Always a fan fave with co-workers and out of towners. Best best best.

No real bar feel whatsoever no matter how many millions have been put into this place. Weird crowd. Eclectic, no one knows each other. Trying to be cool but pretty awful. Bartenders are awesome. Door people are truly awful. Just an eclectic mess trying to be something in LES.

My fav bar in NYC! I always come here with my friends and we have so much fun, a safe place for the girls. You must get their french fries; heaven sent.

I visited this bar on a Friday night, not long before it became fairly crowded. I wasnt able to get a seat at the bar, but stood in the corner. Their cocktails are all named after celebrities. I got the Lana del Ray which had a fruity taste but not one that was particularly distinguishable. By 11 the place becomes loud and crowded. Fun atmosphere.

Worst spot to ever go to !! Was literally enjoying my time with my girl at the bar where they serve drinks , mind you I’ve been there for 3 hours . Short cut blonde hair bartender racially profiled me and my girl . We were the only black / Hispanic couple there . The bouncer did his job checking us in making sure we was of age . Out of all the people in this bar that is insanely packed why only ID US ?? When you have younger looking teens in there getting wasted . I felt like we were targeted in a sense . I spent over $300+ on this night . Never will return again !

Had a sick time with friends at Ray’s, the bartenders Xena and Cheyenne were amazing! Anytime me or one of my friends went up they were quick and made a great drink. Place is awesome!

They rejected me and my friends without checking our IDs solely on the way we looked. We were all well over 21 and had legitimate IDs which they never cared to check. It honestly feels discriminatory.

I got bullied into writing this review but it’s the truth. 5 stars for the employees/owners. Randy and Lee are the guardians that watch over us. Ben makes sure the drinks are strong enough that $15 is well worth it. Carlos ensures all patrons are having a good time and treats everyone with kindness. Most importantly they care about hats. If you lose a hat - they will find it. Or find you.You’ll just have to go yourself to experience the rest ♥️

Fake dive bar, for people I guess who cant stomach going to a real dive bar. Ive only been during the day when its been relatively empty, but allegedly the place becomes quite sceney at night.The Dunkin crossover is also odd.

The perfect faux dive bar with something for everyone!! Great vibes, tasty bar food (the French fries hit the spot every time and sometimes I stop by just for a burger), AMAZING staff and friendly people all around.If you go on a busy friday/Saturday night, like all bars on LES, it can be a little nutty but give Ray’s a chance to win your heart ❤️‍🔥

Rays is my favorite bar in the city, why because it’s a small neighborhood bar! Great energy, fun, friendly, and everyone knows &remembers you! From Randy at the door to Max the manager! Also, the best burger “Gotham Burger social club” does weekly pop-ups their and Lindy of “Those D*mn cookies” bakes her cookies and amazing treats hot and fresh out of the oven every night at Rays! On a side note Carlos ( owner of Rays) has a new baby called Pebble bar go check that out too.Happy Saint Patricks Day ☘️ Have nothing to do tonight head to RAYS!

Listen, I don’t complain often, I’m in the industry and I hate it. They charged us $30 for 2 Tito’s and sodas and $10 for shot of espolon. The price didn’t faze us… what did is the fact that all we tasted is club soda. Also, not a big deal… we’re accustomed to these prices, we didn’t care… but felt something was wrong. So we asked how much are these drinks to a different male bartender. He said they were $14 each. Fine. We got charged an extra dollar.. no biggie. We said listen, we’re both bartenders.. we’re not trying to be difficult, but… it tastes like straight club soda. Here taste it. He grabbed the bottle of Tito’s and poured it into our drinks and said “here you got what you wanted and we don’t play those games here.” Clearly, they do. Otherwise, his response would not have been as harsh. They assumed we were tourists and attempted to add a slight dollar amount and not give much alcohol. We left both drinks after this and said that isn’t what we wanted, take it. That wasn’t even what we were after. It was just a very odd experience and beware cause if they think that you are a tourist or not a regular they will add a bit to the bill (not much, but still) and still pour short.

We havent been here since pre-covid. Things have changed a bit since then, the crowd definitely and not exactly for the better. Im not quite sure what the long lines all the time are about, there were not a lot of people when we went. Bouncer was also just okay, I get hes doing his job... but not very friendly and catered to specific individuals a lot. Weve been to other places where there are still effective, yet friendly bouncers. The hype of this place has changed and not to my liking. Sorry.

Seems like a good vibe. The longer you stay there, the more you start to realize Rays is trying a little too hard to feel like a dive bar. My Modelo beer was $9. When I put down ten bucks and only received back $1, I thought maybe the bartender forgot to give me change. Nope. And I thought I was getting the cheap beer... Not really worth stopping by Rays since its expensive and gets crowded, and its not a great layout for standing and drinking or chatting.

First dive bar I went to in NYC. Friendly, casual service by the musician-trio behind the bar. One of them, Connor (I think), bass player 🎸for @susu_supernatural told me about the bands upcoming tour.My order of whiskey 🥃 had a generous pour and a low price ticket 😁Attractive girls 👩🏼👩🏽👩🏿👩🏼‍🦰 glammed up the bar area as more arrived at the joint, keeping the woman-to-men ratio high 😉. Introductions were swift and conversations were struck with a few. As one of them was preparing to leave, she discreetly slipped a box of matches w/her info inside my shirt pocket.😏The boys, by the pool area, were amicable and ready for a game.🎱With sadness in my ❤, I left the establishment around 10pm, though the night seemed to have just gotten started as new faces walked in and headed for the bar. Not too shabby for a Sunday night in the BIG 🍎.

As a major fan of a good old classic dive bar, Rays is something special. From a casual weekday afternoon to the high energy of a Saturday night, I have yet to find anything quite like it in NYC. If you havent tried Rays youre missing out.

New bar that wants to push the gritty dive bar vibe of the lower east side. $4 PBRs and $1 pool table gives this place some promise. Haven’t spent enough time in there to really get the feel of the energy, but seems like they are trying hard to look like they are not trying. For all my sober readers, they charge for a glass of seltzer water.

Went on a Sunday to watch an Eagles game. Hunter was our bartender & he was one of the best bartenders Ive ever had! I told him to surprise me & he made me a vodka honey sour (an above & beyond drink using eggwhite). Then there was popeyes ordered and shared amongst all at no extra cost. I loved the candles lit at every table & along the bar. The disco ball added some seriously fun flare! Theres a tiny lounge which appeared to be pretty much a private/make out room. The bathroom was clean & simply designed. I loved everything about this bar but Hunter made the experience extra special for my bf & I through fun banter. Definitely hope to make it back to this bar someday soon.

Very small place. It was recommended by a friend while I was in the city but I just got in and out in 5 minutes, I got in and waited for order a beer at least but I guess I was ignored . So I walked out.Not sure about how good it gets. This is only for my 5 minute experience there.

These bartenders have atttttttitude. Inconvenienced to do their jobs and mix drinks when it wasn’t even busy. Bartender (red-headed guy) said “I’m gonna quit” after we requested two more cocktails for our group. He was super standoffish and rude throughout the evening unless it was socializing with his coworkers or favorite patrons. The drinks are overpriced but that isn’t a surprise tbh, it’s a fake hole in the wall with a very interesting crowd.

So, I mistakenly left my work bag under the bar when I went to the bathroom and the security guard actually grabbed my bag & put it behind the bar and then when he saw me looking for it with with a bit of panic starting he saw that it was mine and gave it to me from its safe keeping. Wow that’s a level of care that impresses. Thank you.

Rays was cool in 2019, but now they kick people out for not buying tables. Another great bar lost to the losers flocking to LES.

Someone described this place as a “faux” dive bar. I asked the bartender for green tea shots and he said no. Then I asked for lemon drop shots. He said no. Then I asked for “Shots?” And he poured vodka shots before realizing he didn’t ask me what kind of shots I wanted. I wanted tequila. He dumped the vodka shots and gave us tequila. 10/10 ??? I guess ???

One of the best bars in NYC. Always a good time. Even my parents are obsessed to the point our groupchat name is “Ray’s VIPs”. Enough said 🤠

Fun stop for drinks and pool. Had heard a lot about it from other friends. There’s only one pool table and you put downs dollar to claim next. You play the winner of the previous game not a game between the two of you. Fries are good, they were able to make the hot dog gluten free with lettuce wrap instead of bun.

Slapped a PBR sticker on the bathroom mirror, an Out of Order sign on the jukebox and called this place a dive bar. Those with dollar dolla billz in their pocket but want to feel blue-collar rejoice! You found your place! Those looking to dive, go to Welcome to the Johnsons. Rays has $7 Miller High Lifes. Enough said.

Secret of the LES. Great vibe. Good people. Pool. Good music. Decent drinks. The vibe is Brooklyn without having to go there. The western version of the flower shop. I live in Brooklyn and came to hang here. Enough said.

Only felt the need to leave a review because there were so many negative ones. I can’t speak to the people who left said reviews…I’m sure their experiences are valid. I decided to go anyways and had a great time despite my preconceptions. Staff was virtually all female tonight and was so lovely. Doorman was a friendly giant. Food was great not good, and I know what I’m talking about. If you’re complaining about “overpriced” remember you live in NYC and also come during happy hour. I thought it was a chill, come one come all, lovely experience. I felt comfy.

They make the best tequila redbull around.But i digress,The bar is bumping, the people look good, and the alcohol is flowing. There is much pain in the world but not at Rays.

Nice vibe. The burgers are from the Gotham Smash Burgers popup which were good, but very similar to Shake Shack so nothing too special.

Pool table is in good condition, and it has the option of paying via credit card. However, if it’s a busy night, it’s going to be very hard to take a shot without bumping into somebody.Big shout out to the bartenders for handling chaos with skill and grace!

Been coming to this place since it opened. Felt like it was worthy of a great review. Incredible atmosphere, staff and bartenders all extremely friendly and fun. Fairly priced drinks. Love the crowd too. A mix of fun downtown people with Hollywood actors. Never a dull time. Worth checking out. 5 out of 5.

First time being rejected by a burger joint. Guess Im not cool enough to have a cheese burger 🤷.

Ray’s bar was recommended as a cool place to go….. not so cool when asked to give up your table by bar staff because their bar mates decided to come down, especially when you’ve been ordering plenty of drinks and food all night! A bar that prioritises their ‘in crowd’ over paying customers and will make you feel like you’re an inconvenience being there. Not a nice place for drop ins, don’t go unless you’re mates with the staff.

A fake dive bar masquerading as something better than the sum of its meager parts. the bartenders are a mess and struggle with even the most basic drinks, let alone their insanely overpriced house cocktails. like, the one dude shook a champagne cocktail. they also took probably 4 shots each in the 1 hour we were there (it was like 7pm lmao) which I guess might explain the sloppiness, but still. it’s just a deeply embarrassing place, the embodiment of everything going wrong with LES. I figure it mostly caters to the “influencers” who are just as superficial as the bar itself, but if you’re a normal person there are 100 better bars within a half mile.

Waited on line, and was not allowed in the bar with my group of 4 guys because the bouncer David said there was “not enough room, can’t do it guys. Come back in 10 minutes”, then proceeded to allow a group of 4 girls in to the bar with no problems.We come back to the line (which was non-existent), and are still not allowed back in the bar. The bouncer David tried to get us to give him cash personally to get in the bar. He said “the owner has to get paid”. I chuckled and asked why everyone else was able to get in with no issues.He then goes over to the side of the bar, seemingly speaking to the owner (who is some 30+ year old man chain smoking cigarettes) and comes back to us to say “sorry guys not tonight”Just unacceptable. Definitely be careful because the bouncers are definitely preferring groups of girls over groups of guys. There are much better bars in the area, it’s a shame that this bar has stooped to this level.

Honestly an amazing bar; good decor, good vibes, and relatively nice people. I feel like I always meet somebody new who is willing to chat and have a good time, you just need to know where to look (can get scene-y at times but then again, what NYC bar doesn’t get like that). From security to bartenders, the people that work there are so incredible if you’re friendly to them, which you always should be.If you go on Fridays or Saturdays after 9, you can’t complain about the line because you did it to yourself.

Came for a drink and was shut down at the bar. Came understandingly but the workers sent me away while I was trying to get bottle service. Was going to I give $15,000 for service for my birthday but was shut down and told to go away. Cool for a quick drink but they don’t want to make money. If you’re middle to upper class don’t go here because all they care for is volume too much ego to be served a proper drink.

Hosted my best Bud’s bday there. Entire staff was incredibly friendly and so helpful. Ben the bartender was rad. They food was great. Good tunes. It was just an overall awesome experience. 5 stars. I shall return.

Doorman would not let me in because I was wearing a tank-top underneath a button down shirt. He said he didnt want to see my wife beater. I said do you mean my clothes? I asked him if he was refusing me entry because of what I was wearing and he seemed to sense his error. He didnt budge though, and I felt it wasnt worth a complaint. Funnily enough, a grungy looking man wearing a t shirt with the sleeves and collars cut off left as I was about to button my shirt (one button). So I figured there was some prejudice involved. Be nice to yourself and skip this place.

Always great energy, people, and vibes. Unfortunately many LES bars and clubs lack diversity of people, style, and culture… NOT RAYS! Rays seems to attract a diverse crowd always looking to have fun.

Really trying so hard to be any bar in Bushwick and succeeding.

A “cool” spot, and most people there seemed to be trying hard to be exactly that. Ray’s is basically a bougie dive bar, but the drinks are good and bartenders were friendly enough. As long as you know what you’re getting into, it’s a solid spot.

Came here for some drinks with friends tried to pay for my beer with a hundred dollar bill girl at the bar tells me my money is fake, so I take out another bill she tells me the bill is fake again she checked the bill with pen and the mark turned yellow. She tells me that mark isn’t supposed to change colors, so I google what color it’s supposed to turn and show her she rudely dismisses me. Please educate your staff on checking money!

Lovely lady was selling the best cookies I’ve ever had right outside. Those d*mn cookies are AMAZING!

Server was really sweet. We sat outdoors which I do NOT recommend because we were surrounded by mosquitos the entire time we were there and it was stuffy. We ordered a bucket of Modelo and we got six WARM beers. Then a random man walked up and kept asking us for free drinks.

Thought this place was open late according to a timeout article. Was very excited to try a slice. Showed up around 3am and they were fully closed. Very far from a 24 hour spot. Probably good pizza when they’re open, but was very mislead about their hours.

Friendliest bartenders - literally the best!! It can get a little busy but def worth the wait. Ray’s is a must in the LES!

The dive aesthetic is cool but drinks are definitely overpriced for what they are. Cocktails are watered down, avoid them and stick to wine or beer. The allure of this bar is that you never know who you’re gonna see while you’re here.

Its basically a dive bar for people who would never go to a real dive bar. If youre a college student who wants to overpay for watered down drinks (and experience low quality food at a premium), this is your spot.The fact that they sell a $175 drinking hoodie (its just a branded hoodie) says all you really need to know.The staff are really friendly though.

Bartending staff is rude and completely out of line. I was cursed out by a white male bartender for merely trying to get someones attention (I was ignored for 20 minutes and other people who were waiting after me were being serviced - I only stuck my hand out as it was packed that night and I tend to blend into crowds because of my height). Given that the place was extremely busy, a simple acknowledgement as opposed to verbally assaulting customers would have sufficed. I should note that I was one of the few people of color in the establishment and it is unfortunate that I was disrespected in such a manner because I didnt happen to fit a certain look.

Was really excited for this one but the bartenders were the absolute rudest, too-cool, arrogant barmen I’ve ever met. Really nice looking bar but could not get past how overpriced it was and how terrible service was. Such a let down.

The security guy is rude and he is making discrimination. The security at the door took bribes from some people and let them in from the front. Even though I was at the very beginning of the line, I waited for 1 hour. Despite the people coming out, security did not let me and my friends in. When I wanted to go in, he didnt let me in and let his friends and the people he had bribed in.

Favorite Bar in NYC. Best drinks and fries in Manhattan. Randy the door guy is also a class act

Bad crowd, bad gin and tonic, bad vibes.ETA: their team reached out and offered to make it up on the house on a day that isn’t Friday or Saturday, as apparently those days are just rough. Very kind gesture (though we will be out of town and not able to take them up on it, so the quality of Rays on a weekday stays a mystery)
