One of the esteemed Indian dining establishments in the vicinity, I had the pleasure of patronizing this venue with acquaintances. Our visit took place on weekdays for brunch, and the attendant displayed commendable assistance and expertise. He recommended exquisite cocktails such as the Wheel of Fortune and Spicy Paloma, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, we opted for the Negroni, expertly crafted and balanced. Our selection of Crispy Okra & Bhel Chat leaned towards the drier side, lacking in appeal; nevertheless, the Beetroot Chat proved to be a delectable and artfully presented dish. For our main course, we savored the Channa Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh, and Chicken Tikka Masala from the lunch specials menu, which offered generously portioned and well-prepared meals. The Garlic Naan was a delightful accompaniment, freshly baked and soft in texture. The attendant remained attentive throughout our dining experience, ensuring our satisfaction and concluding with a complimentary serving of Gulab Jamun for dessert. I extend my gratitude for enhancing the dining experience for both myself and my companions. Undoubtedly, a charming and inviting Indian establishment suitable for brunches and romantic evenings. The menu boasts a variety of options, accommodating diverse dietary preferences. I wholeheartedly endorse this establishment, where the cuisine is meticulously prepared, delightful, and beautifully presented. In sum, a fine establishment.

Cool spot just south of NYU. The food was excellent! We started out with the Madam Ji gobi which had excellent flavor but was a bit chewy. That was followed by the chicken Tikka kebabs which melted in our mouths and was delicious. It was a little spicy- really just right.For the large plates we had the vegetable korma which was a good size. We also had the chicken makhani which again featured incredibly moist chicken with a sauce so tasty we almost had to order more rice just to soak all up.Our server Suvee was delightful and attentive even though it was just her covering the whole floor. The food took a while to come out of the kitchen, but was worth the wait. We’ll be back!

For reasonably priced modern Indian food, this is the spot. Located south of NYU, place has some tasty food that will keep you wanting more. Pro tip: go during happy hour which ends earlier than what the website says for affordable bites. We got the butter chicken fries, samosa chaat, and paneer! All were very tasty especially at that happy hour price point. The mango lassi no pictured was thick enough to drink without feeling like it was a workout.The main dish lamb was really good with tons of spices. The butter chicken main was also full of flavor and a bit spicy so be warned. Garlic naan was a good addition but not a required get.Staff was friendly but a bit slower than I’d like but bathroom were clean and vibes were nice.

Wonderful service, cocktails and dishes. We had the pani puri, bao buns and market greens paneer with garlic naan. All were lovely! Wheel of Fortune cocktail was an extra special treat. Great place.

The standout for me were the Ajwani Fish and Paneer Chilli Bao, which were both unique and delicious, and the Lamb Chops, which were perfectly cooked and packed with flavor.Madam Ji is a fantastic spot for anyone looking to enjoy modern Indian cuisine in a chic yet comfortable setting. We stopped in on a night that SantaCon was going on outside. What a peaceful retreat from the chaos outside! The service was great. We had five dinners. We ordered family style: 2 breads, 1 appetizer, 3 entrees, and a little pickle and raita for the table. Along with cocktails—some specialty, one non-alcoholic, and a couple of beers, we felt the overall $$$ was good. Fair prices, excellent flavors, lovely service from Suvee. Would definitely recommend.

First time in NYC was told by locals to try this place, amazing Indian food. Suvee was very helpful picking a dish and service was great! Highly reccomend the chicken saag/spinach curry.

The food here was delicious! The mango beer was unique and accommodated the food perfectly. We had several items as a quick pop-in snack while exploring the neighborhood: Bao Bun and chipotle paneer, both delicious. Suvee was behind the bar and she is fantastic!!! Very generous with her hospitality and showed us a great time. Will come back for the full program!

Amazing food and ambience. A bit pricey, but their menu is unique with plenty of options for vegetarians. We tried a butternut squash malabar curry for the first time and it was wonderful! Their eggplant aubergine and jalapeno cheddar naan were also delicious. Would recommend the lemon rice - this is the first place we found where the rice didnt disappoint - full of flavor and perfect with curry.Their cocktails werent as flavorful - the mango mule we got was more sugar syrup than mango, but they were boozy and when done right, they should be delicious.

Spectacular birthday dinner for a group. Food was amazing. Everyone was so kind. Space is great. Chairs are very comfortable. Some amazing cocktails.

Took advantage of a Pulsd deal (which is still available!): $49 for a three Course Dinner for two, including four cocktails.We went on a Sunday night - the only other person in the restaurant was a guy (who had already finished his meal), talking on his phone and trying to walk his co-worker through some work issue. It was nice to mostly have the entire place to ourselves.To start we ordered the Samosa. And, our selected entrees were the Nilgri Lamb and Crispy Salmon. The entrees are served with rice but we also ordered a naan. Everything was delicious!For drinks, I ordered the Bubbly Maharani - it was refreshing but by the end, became too sweet. My BF ordered their Old Fashioned and it was so good I ended up getting the same for my 2nd drink. They add a cardamom pod and a small cinnamon stick in the drink, which I liked. For dessert we tried the Gulab Juman (a version of an Indian donut). It was soaked in a slightly sweet syrup/sauce and was lovely.Cant wait to go back!

Surya is the best Indian restaurant in Greenich Village . Their secret sauce is their bar .. They have a wild assortment of cocktails,beer, wine & Indian whiskey. Must try their butter chicken, fish tikka , samosas, mango lassi w a little something something for my alcoholic friends :) .. perfect location near everything. Friendly staff , competitive pricing.. check them out !

Visiting from Toronto, we were craving authentic Indian food during our trip.We came across Madam Ji’s and were simply FLOORED by how delicious every single thing on the menu was. One of my most memorable NYC meals and the most authentic home made hearty tasting Indian food. Cannot wait to come back and dine here again! Well done. Please don’t ever change! It’s hard to come by well spiced well balanced meal that doesn’t water down the flavours. 👏🏼

This spot is really delicious and has a good variety of dishes. The menu is split into vegetarian and meat-forward plates so it’s easy to navigate. We’re sure veggie lovers would appreciate this. If the prices were lower, this would be a five-star but prices are high up with no real noticeable reason, which might explain while the spot was so empty. The bread is really nice and so is the service. You can tell there was some love put into the vibe of the place which is always greatly appreciated. ❤️

Very legit Indian food with a wide variety of appetizers, vegetarian options, and drinks. My only complaint was that the portions were a bit small, but we did family style and ordered/shared a bunch of different things, and it worked out great. Great location, too, if you were hoping to go out afterwards!Might not be that great for giant groups - we were a party of 8 and had to make a reservation. I believe we had one of the only larger areas/tables in the restaurant.

Another bomb brunch place by NYU. The Pav Bhaji sliders are great starters to share. The spicy potato purée is rich with a kick, and the dense flavor is cut nicely with fresh, acidic topping.The butter chicken sandwich unfortunately came with burnt toast and was a bit difficult to eat. Chicken was a bit dry but overall spices made up for it.Can’t go wrong with kahlua and irish whiskey in the same glass. Will come back for bottomless brunch.

Nice place and good ambience. Their menu was short and simple. We ordered tandoori ginger chicken and chicken biryani. Tandoori chicken was amazing, biryani was ok. Service was amazing.

The food at Madamji is genuinely amazing but the service even better!! My fifth time going here and tonight we ordered Mangalore chicken, Delhi style paneer, and Malai Kofta. A friend had a nut allergy but our server, Ellison was wonderful. He helped us through the menu and triple checked with the chefs that there was no contamination. He also played great Bollywood tunes 🔥 thank you!

The Naan and the sauce based veg and chicken dishes were tasty, and while it wasn’t crowded the decor and vibe was nice for the area it’s in and we would return.

Loved the chili tequila, a bit spicy, but, gives you a kick of spice and high, food was good and not great, a great place for large groups without any reservations.

The place is beautiful. Pictures online do not do this place justice. Food was amazing, ambiance was nice too, music was nice, not too loud. Service was good and food was tasty and full of flavor. For appetizers we had the cauliflower and chilli pepper fry. It was finger licking good. For Entree had the Lamb Korma, Goat Ghee Roast, and Chicken curry for entree, butter chicken. I reccomend this place. Note that gratuity is already included in the bill.

Chole Bhature is to die for..... hands down the best Chole Ive had in NJ/NY/CT. The chole was perfectly cooked like melt-in-your mouth kinda feel sooooo daammmnn goooooodd. Bhatura was perfectly crispy on outside and fluffy on the inside. The vada pav was also very good as well.

We were a large group celebrating a birthday dinner. The atmosphere, the food quality, drinks, and the service, everything was top notch. Our friends were very happy, including the birthday girl.

The decor is nice, and service is good. Our waiter refilled our water several times.My friend and I ordered the tandoori tasting board to share — $60 for 2 people. This includes lamb chops, seekh kebab, shrimp tikka, salmon tikka, and chicken tikka served with goat cheese naan.Before eating, we noticed that our plates were dirty and asked to get new plates.Unfortunately, the meat was too salty, and the lamb chops were very spicy.

I really enjoyed their vegetarian dishes, which were so delicious and savory. But most importantly I really enjoyed the people who work there and service. I really felt their care and kindness. Highly recommend you support their business!

Had the worst service. Dinner was so so but suddenly someone other than our waiter shows up with a bill (including 20% tip). We were a table of 5 and the bill was north of $500. Tried to get dessert or chai and was told “kitchen is closed”. It would have been nice to know this before hand. Clearly don’t need my biz

We had a great experience dining in. Absolutely great. The ambiance was nice and welcoming as well, and we got a nice table near the window, and we went there for brunch. The mimosas were so wonderful we got a mango and an orange (plus one extra on the house, yay!)We had a succulent chicken based butter chicken fries. The fries were wonderfully smothered in the sauce but crispy. So tasty and wonderful, I loved it.

Most of the food was tasty, must improve the taste of side daal and Rice. Not sure why most the indian restaurants have way too loud music, they should turn volume down. Also, its too expensive

What a lovely time we had here! We just ducked in on a random Saturday night in December and sat down at the bar. Suvee took care of us and elevated our experience from an average apps and beers pit stop to a truly unforgettably pleasant outing. We loved every dish we ate and received the most thoughtful, friendly service at every step. Thank you Suvee and Madam Ji!!

Had a great meal here. Had the chitpotle paneer tandoori, chili bao and Madam Jo’s special dal. All were amazing! They even gave us dessert on the house which was pretty good as well.

Disappointing Bottomless Brunch ExperienceWe chose this restaurant for a Sunday celebration, drawn in by the promise of a bottomless brunch. While the ambiance was pleasant, our experience was marred by painfully slow service and subpar food. The mimosas, part of the bottomless deal, left everyone at the table with unpleasant side effects, and a shocking number of us ended up feeling unwell after leaving. The overall consensus among our group of 12 was that this place is overhyped and overpriced. Unfortunately, I would not recommend it.

We were wandering around the West Village before a show at the Bitter End just across Bleeker Street. Indian food sounded good, so we had dinner here. Excellent as could be. This is it not standard Indian fare (which we love). Each dish is distinctive, conceived and prepared with knowledge and care. As are the cocktails. Fine service, too.Now I want more. The only problem is that I live 2500+ miles away! We’ll go back next time we visit the city.

The food was AMAZING, however our server was pathetic, we got the bottomless mimosa brunch but one person in our party unknowingly ordered a mimosa and instead of deducting it from the bill she charged us for it even though we asked for it to be cancelled a minute after it was placed. She had no understanding and had communication issues. Ambience was loud but otherwise good.

I eat at Madam Ji for their lunch specials about once a week because their food is excellent quality and very delicious at a reasonable price. Everything is cooked fresh and the naan comes to your table right out of the oven. A great place to go on your lunch break to unwind in their relaxing atmosphere. The service is great and Ive had quite a few nice conversations with Chondu who is very friendly and gives attentive service. There arent really a lot of other places to get Indian food in the immediate area, so its a much needed staple in the neighborhood. If you stop in at Madam Ji you will not be disappointed!

Came here with my long-term partner who was on call for the evening. We enjoyed the butter chicken dish, chicken chili bao, garlic naan, and an aperol sprtiz to drink. We were expecting a larger portion for the pricing, for example, 3 or 4 chicken baos rather than 2. Nevertheless, the meal was delicious and the restaurant was beautifully decorated inside.

Surya was amazing. Great food. Excellent service. A little pricey but definitely worth it. Our server/ bartender was very knowledgeable, polite, gave great suggestions and was very friendly. The food was phenomenal but what was most impressive was how the staff (not just our server but also the host and others) were very attentive and made sure our food and experience was the best it could be. My date is a VERY complicated eater but she was beyond impressed and still cant stop talking about the vegetable samosa, cauliflower chili fry, the ginger chicken, and the chicken vindaloo. Incredible! I strongly suggest the Indian Rose cocktail. It was aromatic, refreshing, and beautiful to look at. We will be telling everyone we know.

Madam ji is your typical bohemian style Indian restaurant with an interesting menu, and a popular brunch spot near NYU.Its known for its bottomless mimosas that go well with the fusion food and is great if you come with your gang of friends.I tried their pav Bhaji Sliders, chole bhature and butter chicken sandwich - and was kinda underwhelmed with the taste and quality. The Bhaji had tad too much garam masala, the chole tasted sour/average and the butter chicken sandwich was dry with little makhni sauce to really hit the spot.The mimosas are decent - you can get orange, mango and blueberry. Definitely gets you tipsy in your third round.Service is quick and ambiance is okay - the place plays loud music and so not really a place to have an intimate conversation.Overall a decent place - keep your expectations low and voice high.

I usually dont give this low rating to restaurants however this one deserves it. We were 6 people. Probably ordered all the appetizers on the menu they were just missing something. The portions are VERY small so please keep that in mind before you place an order. The staff just made us feel rushed, they took my plate while I was placing another order. The drinks are nice an extra star for that. However the food is not what they charge for or give the hype about.

I was excited when we planned to catch up at this restaurant! The premise was promising. Me as a person from the region of origin for this cuisine was looking forward to see how theyve modernized it!We ordered drinks and appetizers and decided not to stay for dinner. The service was extremely slow. Maybe that was just for that day specifically. More importantly though, a couple of the appetizers basically had the same sauce and I didnt see any creative modernization of the cuisine.

Taste is 80 percent Indian, vindalo, chettinad, daal, biryani, samosa chaat, breads are all great. The issue we had was with paneer tikka, taste was good but panner was rock hard, delhi butter chicken had fantastic tasting chicken,, but the gravy was just sweet tomato paste, the apetizer portions are really small.

Food was absolutely delicious! The goat cheese and truffle naan is the BEST! Truly recommend this place.

Ordered the butter chicken sandwich, which is just butter chicken made from a dish between two buns, no flavor and the chicken was dry. Service is bad, food took for ever to come out and was cold. Mixed drinks are made with no care and we ordered the same thing, all tasted different. But the music was good. Highly don’t recommend this place. Spend your money somewhere else.

Really liked the sampler board today. I read reviews about the music being too loud but figured it was something they just did during dinner service. I was wrong. Music was on full blast during brunch hours and it was at a volume that I do not think would be appropriate for dinner either. Other patrons were yelling over each other so it was just cacophony of yelling and music and I was close to getting a headache from it. Food wasnt good enough to sit through that ever again.

Solid all around Indian cuisine. My fiancé had a very nice tomato soup my mulligatawny soup was also quite nice. We liked the chili garlic shrimp starter as well as our main courses, the butter chicken and the lamb chettinad. The standout was the rich flavor of the tomato soup, other than that we were generally happy with the food but nothing else stood out considering the prices, which were a little above average I’d say for this cuisine.

Great food! Went there for Sunday brunch and got the bottomless brunch. Loved the dhaba wali daal, butter chicken sandwich and aloo tikki burger. Highly recommend!

Came here for Sunday brunch and to say my experience was disappointing is an understatement. Ordered the Kale Bhajia and Pav Bhaji sliders - here’s my takeaway. The Kale Bhajia was undercooked and dough-ey on the inside; felt like I was eating batter. The Pav Bhaji Sliders were sad; it was a single pav split into two with a dollop of bhaji that wasn’t even mashed uniformly. Then there was the biggest disappointment of the afternoon - the Chole Bhature; the bhature was so thick and honestly it felt I was eating a beignet, less a warm puffy bhatore - not what I expected. The chole were bland and boring; minimal effort. I appreciate that they’re catering to the audience but this was far from authentic. I’ve heard good things about their lunch and dinner menu but it’ll take a lot for me to come back here - highly unlikely.

Very good food, that was unfortunately ruined by rude staff, an overly loud speaker system, that somehow they feel the need to turn the bass up all the way and take you to a concert experience while trying to enjoy food and drinks. Equally unimpressed by the staff when we asked to slightly turn it down, but then again, maybe they couldn’t hear us because it was so loud?

This restaurant used to be one of my go-to spots for affordable Indian food in the area but it seems like management has changed in the past few months. Prices on the menu have increased noticeably and there are now probably 1/3 of the food options there used to be. The last time I dined there, it was a continuing struggle to get the attention of a waiter even when the restaurant was nearly empty. My friends and I almost missed a movie we had tickets to because it took 15-20 minutes after we finished eating to get someone to bring us the check and then bring back our card. Looking back at my receipt, I see I was charged $4.00 for something called Open Food that does not correlate to anything I ordered. I tried calling the restaurant about this 3 times and was never connected with someone who could help. Staff promised the correct person would call me back- they never have. Even if the food was amazing and out of this world, I would not return.

The food, the wine pairings were all great on their tasting menu. Will definitely go back. The only thing I could pass on was their carrot cake, but still every other course was awesome.

My friend and i absolutely loved this place. amazing food and service. we ordered the delhi style makhani as our main entree; the tenderness of the chicken and spice level of the sauce was incredible. we also recommend getting the chili bao and garlic naan. our waiter was chandu he had a great friendly personality and was very cute overall! thank you chandu and thank you madam ji for a great dinner experience. mind you this is my first time i’ve felt inclined to write a review. ig: @diionnx

Great Indian food. And the naan is awesome. Had a fantastic Christmas Eve dinner with family. Portions were perfect, with little left over. This is our go to Indian on the island and live way uptown. Worth a trip.

Good food but super slow service.

I had a wonderful dining experience at Madamji recently. The staff (Chandu and Kevin) were fantastic and the food was delicious. We highly recommend the Sanskrit Sip from the cocktails along with the Achari Mushroom, Chili Bao, Tandoori Tasting Board for 2 and gulab jamun. All the dishes were cooked well and flavored nicely.

Fine food; terrible experience. feels like your in a college bar where youre forced to listen to loud, blarring music at all parts of your meal. @NYC should probably look into the business as it feels like a bottomless brunch spot that is easy on IDs.... several very intoxicated individuals ruin a rather pleasant cuisine

The food at Madam ji is not really that special. We asked for Hyderabadi Bryani some Daal and rice and Flat bread The bryani did not really live up to the Hyderabadi reduction and also the Daal was really not that flavourful The Nan bread was nice . The service was mediocre I probably wouldnt visit Madam Ji again

Casual place to get Indian food. We went in a small group of 5 people and everyone had wanted to eat different things, Im a vegetarian and someone else was a vegan and the rest wanted non-vegetairan food. This place was able to cater to us all.The food was delicious and I will definitely be going again. @traveleen_gurl

Authentic and delicious place for Indian food. Love the vibe and music here. They played a modern take on Indian music that really enhanced the overall dining experience without it being obtrusive. The staff was friendly and attentive. We had the papadam and lamb biryani, both were top notch and delicious. My only critique would be, give me more papadam! Haha. Cheers

The food is really really tasty, but it is pricy and they do not give you nearly enough food. I also hate places that charge per each naan ordered but I guess thats just how NYC is. Still it was pricy. But food yummy. I recommend any tandoori meat.

We stopped for s quick bite here. It was a weeknight so the restaurant was kind of empty. We ordered samosa and Trinidad inspired Doubles. Food was good, service was fast and good! Would love to come back again for proper dinner!

I came by TooGoodToGo app the meal was coast $5 instead of $15 meal. When you see in the pics the portions looks bigger than they put on a meal from TooGoodToGo. It’s not fair!!! This a real cost $5 meal than it should to be on the app ‘s $15.

Went for brunch, I thought the butter chicken sandwich could have been better with like a garlic naan peta bread versus a very crispy standard white slice bread they had put it on. My whole dish was very crunchy, would have enjoyed more variety of texture. The lamb burger was great and recommend trying.

The food is delicious but the the lunch box combo is quite lame. The curry portions in lunch box are tiny, whereas they give huge portion of rice and lots of naan. I wish they had more curry, instead of expecting people to fill up on empty calories.

This area of Bleeker Street near NYU known more for a bar scene than fine dining; this restaurant has indoor & outdoor seating serves alcohol & has good food ; on the $$$ for Cocktails food items moderately priced; all in all was good experience;

Nothing special about this place. Quality of meat seemed fairly good. Sauces are nothing special. Rice was dry, sitting in a pot too long probably. Plates were dirty. Service was good.

Small cozy Indian restaurant, with a lively atmosphere and beautiful decor. The space was very effectively used, in that the seating was well spaced without feeling crowded or as if youre too close to others. The food was simple but tasty, and the portions were good. The service was fast and efficient, and the servers were very friendly and polite. They offer a bottomless option of $45 for an entree and 60 mins of unlimited mimosas.

Who knew there was such a thing as hipster Indian? Very good food. Modern decor. Hipster crowd. Note to management: it was cold in there! Turn up the thermostat and put something in front of the door to minimize blasts of wind.

My friend got a prefix dinner for us and while the food was good and the service as well, they charged us tax and tip based on the original price of the dinner for two making the total dinner the same full price without the prefix discount! We’re NEVER going back there! It’s a Tax fraud.

Love this place. Fabulous food. Friendly staff, great location. We try to get here every time were in the city. (Chair cushions are a bit saggy, hope they fix that soon.)

I really hate to give any place 1 star but unfortunately I have to in this case. They offered a Pulsed deal which was a bait-and-switch type of thing and charged us almost double the amount by basing a mandatory tip off of the largest possible amount we could have spent (but did not). This type of doing business is unfair and predatory. I was extremely disappointed.

Went for a good restaurant week thali at this place. The food was good. They also made exception to the non-vegetarian dishes for our vegetarian friends. The servers were very polite which is so rare in NYC these days. I loved the food but would have liked it more if it was made extra spicy as per my request, had pickels, onion and papad in their menu. They do add the tip into the bill itself so a word of caution there. The restaurant Week thali overall was very good deal especially paired with wine. Will come again for Pav Bhaji.

Not sure if this is newest incarnation of Surya which used to be on Bleeker on other side of 7th until a few years ago? Doesnt really matter, this is a really nice neighborhood spot with unique recipes. Great cocktails.

I comment on what I tried. Ingredients are not the freshest (reasonable by US standard).Shahi Korma 3/5 -- proper but not a lot of nuts inside the korma. Reasonable for the price.Saag Paneer 1/5 -- very diluted.Naan (garlic and kashmiri): 3/5 both are proper but ordinary in comparison to what I have tried in the US. (Of course, not comparable what one would find in a fine restaurant in India.)

This place can def do better. We went there for birthday brunch. Pav bhaji sliders and veggie burgers were good. Cocktails - not so much.

We ordered numerous times via Seamless, always falling for the 20-30 min delivery time. In reality it’s alway an hour and arrives cold…

I’ve ordered for to-go from this place couple of times and the food is okay but the staffs, they never put any forks or knife with the food and every time i go i need to remind them and this restaurant doesn’t even have any to-go plates too. The food itself doesn’t look fresh....

I had a fantastic experience at Madam Ji! The food was exceptional, and the drinks were delightful. Our server, Chandu, was incredibly welcoming and attentive. He dedicated time to ensure our experience was perfect, answering all our questions with a smile. We explored a variety of dishes from the menu, and every single item was delicious. It was a truly memorable dining experience!

Chicken looks and tastes like it was boiled instead of grilled, they never put any utensils or napkins in even if you ask. Oh and my naan is burnt.

The food taste and quantity were not at par with the pricing they had. The milk tea was watery and not great overall experience. I spent $60 and was still hungry afterwards for dinner.
