It felt like a nice hidden cellar space with a bar. The staff was friendly and attentive. There was plenty of space and seating. They had an extended happy hour and a decent selection of cocktails. Great place to hang meet up with a medium group of friends.
This place kicks ass! Treated like I was a regular. The owner and staff were fantastic. Drinks were like I would pour. The dj was amazing. The perfect combination of local dive bar/club. Only regret is that I dont live in NYC.
A super fun bar that has a clubby basement vibe. Beware coming during the summer, because it gets HOT! The drinks are always so strong and affordable, and depending on the DJ the music can be either mid, or the best in town.
Really fun bar, but you guys have a phone thief problem. Both my and my friends phones were stolen from our bags while dancing and other people Ive talked to have either had their phones stolen here or know of someone who has
Very neat vibe and unique experience. The drinks were just okay, but THE DJ WAS DOPE! 10/10 recommend vibing out here just for the music remixes and choice
Great drinks, great music! Small but fun! The margarita was amazing!
Best place for underground comedy in Chinatown. Free standup comedy Monday nights at 6pm. Happy hour till 8:30. Frozen margs. A nice cold, dark basement bar with taxidermy.
Came in for one drink only, the bartender was very nice and attentive. Place is very lay back and chill.
Love it here. I love to start my nights out in LES here. I remember coming here a couple of years ago for the first time for a goth event that was hosted here and fell in love.Get the frozen margs!!
Edit: Revising my review after some recent bad experiences with the bouncers asking for $100 to get in while letting their friends cut the lines . Used to be one of my favorite places but feel like it has gone downhill recently. It’s a fun dive bar with a dance floor. But the drinks are AWFUL, they definitely refill the bottles with something else because even if you ask for Tito’s, it still tastes disgusting. Like the vodka they serve is almost undrinkable, I would highly recommend ordering something in a can (avoid mixed drinks here) like a white claw. Also it gets pretty hot downstairs and the bathrooms are all the way in the back, so you have to squeeze through the entire dance floor if you want to use them.
Weekends get very busy. Dance music all night…Since it’s underground no service when you start walking towards the back. It’s gets really hot FYI! Overall good place to dance and good techno music
Had an issue with the door guy but it seemed like a unique incident, the owner took it seriously so in memory of other good nights there I edited my review.Mike: Thank you for the reply, I will email you now in hope to clear that out. X
Home Sweet Home is just that place a gift that keeps on giving.Every time you go here you always have an awesome time..The bar itself is an eye popping wall full of awesomeness. The music there never tires and the staff all know what an awesome place they work at and it shows in all their attitudes....Everyone from the manager to the bartenders even the big security there have a great demeanor second to none...Gets crowded on the weekend but hey thats a charm in itself.....A carpet performance went over well with this crowd as people took many pics...Just an awesome night all round..
Definitely a younger crowd but still fun to dance if you get there early enough to avoid the crowds and cover charge
Stopped in on a Wednesday night at around 7 because we had about an hour and a half to kill before our dinner reservations. Home Sweet Home is a bit hidden - you have to go down a set of stairs to get in. Inside is super divey usually, that means drinks are cheap - they had happy hour until 8:30! They have tables you can sit at but if you sit in the back, there’s a very distracting disco ball that makes you feel like you’re tripping. Luckily, somebody left at one of the tables in the front, so we were able to move there. Music is also loud but if you don’t mind it, it’s a cool place to hang out.
EVIL BOUNCER!! Love this bar so much and have been going for years but when we tried to go last night the bouncer was charging a $10 cover, all good we paid, he took our money and then said actually $10 more to go in. We said no that’s too much can we have our money back and he wouldn’t return it. Never heard of anyone doing that, really disappointed cause usually it’s a fun spot.
This place was quite an experience. The DJ was spinning old twist tracks from the 60s and there was a disco ball and taxidermist items throughout. The drinks were super cheap, but there was a cover and a paid coat check. It got pretty crowded as the night went on, but right after work you could still have a conversation.
Cheap drinks and good 2010s music vibes but I’ll be bringing my earplugs next time.
MY FRIENDS PHONE AND MY PHONE GOT STOLEN HERE LAST NIGHT. DO NOT COME HERE.
No food & music are crashed, including the drinks.... if you are a lady... dont go there including Fig19.... theres 10x better bare around the corner
This is hands down the best bar. Gets really crowded however great atmosphere. Loved the Saturday night here. Drinks are also very affordable. Whiskey with ginger ale was so good😍
This LES dance spot is great if you are looking for a place to dance and youre not a bro. The DJ mix tends to be a mix of old school R&B, hipster rock and oldies. The crowd is hipsterish, so if thats a detractor stay away. Drinks are average NYC prices and there is no cover before 12 and then a very reasonable 5 bucks after. IT does fill up fast and get very crowded, but overall its a fun place.
Wonderful little gem in Soho. Dark, moody, offbeat basement bar. Drink and shot deals, yummy cocktails and small selection of beers- a couple craft ones. Everyone in a group could find what they need. One thing must be said:THERE IS NO FOOD HERE!
Good underground bar with a fun disco ball on the dance floor. A good dive bar with good tunes which can range from 60s to today. A good place for a chill after work drink or a large group dancing spot.
Perfect dark dive bar to hide in. Its so chill, the bartender forgot he was pouring me a Guinness and left the room for several minutes. When he came back, he was like, Aw, man...dont worry about it. and gave me the drink for free. 10/10
Some random dude with his shirt off started dancing next to me
Had my watch stolen last night bouncers tried to find it no one checked footage. There is bo contact number for the bar whack
We ended up here on a Friday around 2am. The place was EMPTY. Music was … oldie pop - judge for yourself if you like that. Drinks were not good - super cheap alcohol
Great vibe, cool environment, cheap (but great) drinks!
Nothing better than home cooked food
Wandered past here while exploring Chinatown and Little Italy on vacation and dropped in to see how it was. Pretty dead lunchtime on a weekday, but a nice cool, dark spot to drink a beer and chat with the friendly bartender. Id definitely drop by next time Im in NYC.
I was given no trouble getting into the venue, i was on the door since i was photographing a local bands show for weird record release party. no questions asked, no obscure and threatning bouncers. i walked in and i was intrigued, but it was just the atmosphere for me. i loved how everything was set up, they even had a fog machine. i came in on one of their mostly goth kids night so that was erm intriguing but cool hearing joy division reduxes, i would be thrilled if a band asked me to shoot them live there againxoxosamantha oh photos
4 stars because /it is what it is/ - a sticky floored dark bar where you expect well and a solid dj set. Been coming here for yrs because when yku need a drink? It feels like ☆home☆
This is a classic Lower East Side basement dive that gets super crowded and plays party tunes to a bunch of entitled little scumbags. If you want to get drunk and dance to hit songs this is the place.
Fun atmosphere, but the bartender was pretty awful - purposely ignores you (when nobodys making orders), complains about tips (seriously, Ive never been bitched at for skipping a tip on a shot glass sized water just after making a $50 order, and tipping nicely). Wont go back.
Dive bar + dance floor. Good drink prices and retro beats by live DJ. Leave your pretensions and inhibitions at the door. DONT TOUCH THE DISCO BALL.
Went to 88 Palace Restaurant to have Dim Sum for a UYE that Judy F. organized. The restaurant itself is located inside a small mall under the bridge. We arrived and were promptly seated. We ordered Clams, Fried taro with minced pork, Pork shumai with quail egg, Sticky rice in lotus leaf with mushrooms, Chicken feet, Shrimp shumai, sticky rice, bean sprout with black beans, and Egg custard. Each of us came away quite full from it all. The tea helped nicely with digestion. For four people, total came to about $14 per person including tip. Each of the dishes costs $2 on average and the more premium ones like clam cost a bit more. Great way to spend a Sunday brunch with new friends.
There is a phone thief here. My phone was stolen from my bag while walking up to the bar and 6 other people had their phones stolen as well. Security was rude.
A L.E.S. basement dive bar, decorated with friendly taxidermy. A wonderful place to hangout with friends, or dance the night away. It gets very crowded on weekends, so be wary. Overall, might give it another shot.
Great vibes. diverse crowd. music is hit or miss but overall a really nice bar
So happy to find this place! Amazing atmosphere and Owen was the absolute best
Home sweet home is a good place to go out with your friends to have a dirty sweaty party, the door is really easy, with extremely nice bouncers, the music is very diverse, and to just go out dancing and go crazy its a good place
Quiet. Dark. Relaxed. A nice break from typical Bowery fodder.
Cool bar, it gets popping off on the weekends. It’s got a fun vibe but if the line is long, may not be worth it.
Great music. Good atmosphere!! Really cheap happy hour if youre into that!!
Fun but they have a pick pocketing problem so be careful
To start things of --> go there on Friday at 1am thats when you will have the best time there but nevertheless it is always a good place to go as my buddies and I used to say Lets go Home...... Sweet Home! (Its an insider now).Great drinks and great dancefloor even that you have an option to hang your coats somewhere without paying even tho you take the risk of them getting stolen but I have been there 5 times and they never got stolen.Age range is quite good, normally its Collage age but sometimes there are some older people too which is okay I guess. The best thing to say is that the bouncer is nice and sensible. I have experienced a lot of bouncers being a**holes and misusing their power. But the bouncers at Home Sweet Home are likeable. Shout-out.
Dive bar appeal, but still full NYC pricing. The Coke was flat in my drink. The vibe in the seating area is weird and the place was mostly empty.
Nice
Loved the music and the atmosphere here. Had a lot of fun. Prices are good and the place is very welcoming
Fun little dive bar full of college kids just having a good time and dancing. Cheap drinks and a disco ball aint too shabby
A nice looking space and cheap cover when we got there after midnight. but we couldnt stay long because the music was way too loud. i had to put my headphones in which made it bearable.... didnt get any drinks but it looked like most things were $7-10
A strange and unusual club for the underground dance scene. Interesting taxidermy adds to the charm and the bar service is good.
Will never return. Employees seem to hate fun. Bad vibes all around.
A NYC institution. Downright cool. Nothing beats its $4 a pint for the longest happy hour in the city (till 20:30).
Great, low key bar. Ive done some of my best dancing there.
Drinks are not made well. No consistency on the same drink during the night.
Dj with the dreads is ABSOLUTE GARBAGEMixing random BPMs and random songs that dont go together. Scratching randomly over songs. Please stop.
We just loved the bar!Friendly staff, great music, great atmosphere!
Id be remiss if i didnt compliment the bartender/the bar on making a really nice hot toddy. he did a great job both with the drink and the recommendation. long black haired dude. thanks again, much appreciated
Good times!
Great music, dingy and full of quirkiness. Drinks were a reasonable price too.
Place to actually dance on any night of the week. Nearly empty until 1am, then picks up rather fast.
Great friendly bartenders, cheap drinks, quirky atmosphere with taxidermy and fun lights, intimate cozy space
Great place to bring friends, drink solo, or dance unforgivingly.
I have really enjoyed this place in the past, but I recently visited 3 hours before closing, and the bouncer turned me away, telling me the club was closed. This was incredibly disappointing, as I consistently recommend this place.
Great dive bar and the best Happy Hour I’ve seen in the city.
Way too crowded, bad music, and $3 cover? If youre over 24 would suggest avoiding this place.
Seemed like a cool place, beer was good, but the bartender (young lady) was super rude
Bartender was out of line.. Too crowded. Lost their best DJ’s.
I had a good time here once and have gone back soooo many times and my night has always been RUINED by the dj!!!! Literally cannot read a room full disco ball lights people standing around awkwardly cus the dj is so bad: everytime. Several djs. Given many chances.
My review is skewed, The bartender Olivia rules, you should tip her and her coworkers well!
Great bar but the music is a little too loud for conversations.
This place rules!!!! That Mike dude is cool!! The dj’s on every 2nd Friday are good (mustache guy and Chinese dude )
Typical sticky-floor college bar. Drinks are relatively cheap, but there really is nothing to write home about.
Love this place, very cool bar. Good vibes.
Great place, great music to dance like when you were a teen
Overpriced drinks, good location, all the times Ive been its been boring
Worse DJ in NYC. Music was so bad everyone was asking the DJ to change it, which he responded by giving everyone the middle finger.
Nice place. Good drinks. Interesting music.
If you love blues, and a good draft, this is the place to be, despite the divey-ness
Amazing place... Love the DJ on Saturdays
This place gets HOT during the summer. Music was okay, but not worth sweating from the moment you walk in (basement bar with few ACs, mostly for tables). Avoid for the summer and come back when it’s cooler outside.
Cool place. Great dj, unique decor.
Didn’t like the music, but cool place
I only ever go to see my pal Jonathan Toubin, which always is 5 stars.
All around a dern good place to eat is my table!
😈
Chill secret spot hang out after work. Cool dance spot at night.
Fun place to have drinks with friends. Good music.
This place stands the test of time, college hangs all the way to parenthood. No joke, I would die here. Love HSH
Great post punk, new wave vibes
Fun place for dancing
The card reader for drinks has pre-selected tips of 20%, 25%, and 30% and the tip is calculated based on not the pre-tax price but the price after tax and an extra 3% fee that comes out of nowhere. Getting a little out of hand
Used to be cooler only bozos allowed now
Home Sweet Home is one of my all time favorite bars on the weekends. Saturday is the best night to go for a DJ playing throwbacks. Be ready to dance your pants off. Beer and drinks are reasonably priced and there’s limited seating. Be aware of the $5 cover!
Kind of a more pregame destination imo. The dance floor is not big enough for it to be what it wants to be. That being said, there wasnt a cover when I went which is always a plus and the drinks werent crazy priced like some of the other nearby bars
Fun dive bar with a disco ball so good for dancing. Bathroom didn’t lock at all
Tiktok ruined this bar. Used to be the last fun dance bar in lower manhattan. Now has a line at all hours and is overly packed with rude bouncers.
Welcoming and funky, its an off-the-beaten-path place to stumble upon one evening.
Pretty lit but they messed with the songs a bit too much which personally threw me off, still danceable
Stumbled upon this spot after dinner and danced the night away.
Got my phone stolen here and so did 5 other people that night. Its the kind of crowd this bar attracts I guess. Employees werent very understanding, and the bar didnt do much to help.
You probably do know or even care about pre rachet yuppie LES. Also, why are you here? 🙄
A bit small and tight space. Can get filled quickly. And hard to listen, have conversations. Have constantly talk close to each other. Drinks were neat. I liked the deal of the beer and shot combo for $10 lol.
This is the #1 bar in lower manhattan. The dog is the best I’ve ever heard. This bar has ruined all other bars for me.
Friendly bartenders. It was pretty crowded but I didnt find myself waiting too long for drinks. The music wasnt bad, either. Cool taxidermy theme.
One of the best bars in NYC
The loudest club in town. Go break your ear drums here.
This place is rad for not so expensive drinks on the city and a good atmosphere
Fave bar. such a vibe. always great music. frozen margs are fire.
Hella divey, hella bowery, hella punk spot. lotsa djs now though.
Just the right amount of weird. Im so glad that I stumbled upon this place.
The bouncers literally pushed the guy I was going in with, physically shoved him out of the line. It was so extremely rude, highly dislike this place
Not bad, lots of taxidermy and people laughing
HSH delivers the cozy and fun experiences we all long for.
Solid place to dance and grab drinks. No line on a Friday night. Incredibly hot and humid though
Nice bar with cheap drinks. They are serving drinks outdoors. Happy hour till 8pm. Especially like their negroni and Chinatown daquiri Required to order grape leaves for food for 3 bucks. Open till 11. Please support. 80s music
Crowded and sweaty, but they play great beats.
LES dive bar, try to go when they have live music/dj.
I like this place more or less depending on the night of the week, the crowd and the music thats playing. I came once on a Friday night, and it was so packed, dark and the music was not my scene. I did not have fun. The second time I came was on Saint Paddys Day, and it wasnt very crowded, the music was good, and overall it was pleasant. If youre clausterphobic and dont do well with low ceilings, dont go her - its in a basement.
Was here a couple months ago with family on vacation. It was a great place to grab a brunch, and the people I was with spotted a celebrity? Some ice skater I think... how do the people I hang out with recognize famous ice skaters?! XD
Great place for reasonably priced drinks in Manhattan
Awesome dive bar with a dance floor, and very cheap drinks. One of my favorite spots - unfortunately, the consistently rude and overbearing bouncers at the door put a damper on the fun factor (thus the 3-star rating - otherwise fully a 5++ star establishment!)*Will update review if anything changes with their front-door-hiring preferences
Nice music the night I went, good atmosphere, nice people. Bartenders are efficient, responsive and quick. Cocktails were alright, in the lower price range for Manhattan. Would recommend for a late night adventure!
👍🏻
It kind of looks like a bachelor decorated his basement in the 70s. Plastic covered velvet couches, taxidermy animals, vintage lamps. Ive been there a few times when the music has been all dirty blues - always a good dance night.
This place is amazing, but what makes it the best is the wonderful staff.
What a dive bar. I love it! They seem to play a whole lotta swing every time Im there. I have some crazy stories from this place. It is a crowded mess in there, and it gets really hot.
No where but home ❤️❣️🙏😇🤗😎
This place always has a special spot for my girlfriend and I, so we try to go there every once in a while. Its definitely my kind of bar, as it varies from being a quiet chill place to a place that plays some good music to rock out/dance to. Plus, the taxidermy is a nice touch!
Great atmosphere, great location. The bar has different types of music, and lots of people dancing to it. Good variety in drinks, air conditioning to keep the place from getting to hot. Would definitely recommend this!
Immaculate vibes, Im coming back
Really fun place, good music to dance, nice stuff and nice neighborhood. Better if you come here with no expectations on a random day !
Awesome dive bar with a dance floor and surprisingly good mix of music.
Lively spot that stays open late. Its pretty dark and underground but good to place to drink.
Nice when you dont have plans but not a great bar / club at all.. Fun when you are with a bunch of friends. Music is terrible though but fun.
Great atmosphere, space and staff. Love this spot!
Dive bar. Decent drinks. Got a free shot of tequila. Decent dj music.
Great crowd! Always a good time. The best.
We first arrived at a little past midnight on a Saturday (early sunday). Had a line, we walked to Louie and Chan and came back at 1. No line, $3 cover but got right in. The staff including bouncers were awesome, woukd definitely recommend.
Its not easy to spot from the street. Keep an eye out for the burly bouncers, because the last time I was there, they didnt have a sign or an awning. The music is very diverse. They play everything from top 40 to urban to old school hits. The place gets packed with sweaty dancing crowds during peak bar hours.
If I could actually remember any night Ive been here id probably say its the best bar in town.
Only really enjoy my visits when Im in and out within an hour or 2. Not a good spot to come on weekends unless you like fire code violation levels of people surrounding you. Gets pretty hard to move around as the night goes on.
What a great find! This place is so down to earth and unpretentious you forget youre in Manhattan.
Awesome and cheap bar!The music is too loud though and the DJ is not that good
Great drinks and great people with a fun dance floor and kitschy decor
So the music here varies on any given night. Ive come here on a bar crawl with friends and we just made it work. They have a dancefloor, but its not exactly your Top 40 or edm hits, but you might find some things you can head bob to. Most of the time it just doesnt work though unless youre a hipster and can dance to alt rock.
Perfect little hidden bar for pregaming. It has a disco ball and the music es very 80’s and 90’s
Great place to party. Especially for locals. Thursdays are my favorite.
Terribly crowded on popular evenings, which I guess you could call a good thing if youre into that. No room to move around or dance
Um they scan IDs and that would be totally fine if the scanner actually worked.Dude the ID is real. Do I look that young? My friend could easily look 30...Anyway, bouncer took 20 minutes scanning our IDs but at least I made him crack a smile. Geez. And then I almost tripped down the stairs. I think this place is wheelchair accessible so next time I will use the electric platform lol.Whats sad is that I was more concerned about my red lipstick smearing and get, what my friend coined, the joker lipstick look.Bar is decent, I guess. If youre into dark, divey joints. Bartenders are nice. Isnt too crowded & nice and cool during hot summer nights.
Great.
Friday night is 60s dance night. Dont bother with the other nights dumbos.
If it wasnt for a bartender stinking up the place with straight up BO it wouldve been fun
Divey and quirky, with dim lighting, vintage furniture, and taxidermy. This place used to be my go-to before catching the Fung Wah bus to Boston. Its kind of a sombre little joint, with sometimes surly service, but Ive got a soft spot for it.
Loved this little bar, had a really great time, and cheap for NYC
Jonathan Toubins Friday night DJ Set is the best experience in NYC
Jonathan and Jasper made me drink a liter of Tequilla.
Havent danced like that since 1964!
Great for dancing. Eclectic dj.
Functional bar with fair prices. Could do with a better oldies playlist on Friday nights - if you play nothing but deep cuts, the dancing folks get tired quick.
Great hidden bar with good drinks
Forgot my card here after buying two drinks (CC min). I go to pick up my card the next day and they upped the charge to 25 then added 20% to it for a total over $32- for two drinks!! There are way too many bars in the area for you guys to be such jerks. I will not go here again or advise anyone else to. Plus the place smells like mildew and interior looks grimy.
Really lame spot, highly claustrophobic, and annoying pushy people...dont waste your time.Railroad style layout makes for lots of bumping into people and you cant carry on a conversation with the blarring and tasteless music.
Great spot to get drinks and go dancing
Steamy and stinky underground dance spot. Normally charges a cover for a pretty meh atmosphere
Fun bar! Go on a Friday or Saturday night and dance your heart out
Some strong dance vibes friday nights. can get crowded though.
Very nice under bar, with different music each day and different kind of ppl making the place very special, also the deco style is like my grandmothers house, and the drinks are very cheap
Got in there 4:43pm Friday, not open
Underground, low-key. Was completely empty when we visited NYE.
Very low & unfriendly atmosphere, unfortunately
Nice music cheap drinks
Great place to dance to older music!
Interesting decor, great drinks
Incense on a Friday night out is not what Im looking for. The taxidermy is tacky and crowd is eclectic. Drinks were okay.
This is going to be my next favorite bar.
Nice music and cheap drinks
Basement bar with a cool crowd.
College crowd, loud music, good vibes
If Elvis was alive he would call this joint his castle of Rock!
Too nice
Great music 🎶
Watching TV , shopping with you.dringking some ☕.
Perfect NYC club atmosphere
GREAT PLACE!!! Wholesome vibes!!
Shap
Great bar for Halloween
This was a really cool place!
Good place
💥
Good bar near chinatown neighborhood
Smelly but fun bar!
Friendly and smooth music
Love it
A must for a night of dancing.
Best dive bar
Very good drinks
