Grabbed brunch here recently for the first time and it was such a great find! Our brunch was delicious, mimosas were great and the servers were friendly. Busy restaurant and can be a bit noisy but definitely a fun atmosphere! We will be back when in NYC again!

Helena was lovely. Absolute perfection personified. I only knocked down atmosphere cause I’m not huge with loud club music at brunch but that’s it. The place was decorated beautifully for Christmas, my water stayed full throughout the whole brunch because the service was on point. All around great experience

Essex was amazing! My waitress Helena was the absolute best!! She was on point our entire dine in experience and she took care of everything before we could even ask for it. Make sure you ask for her on your visit!!

This is THE spot for a bottomless brunch with a big group of friends! The space is lively and big enough to hold space for large parties with ease. I’ve been here for countless birthdays and they do NOT disappoint. The food is delicious and caters to all dietary preferences. We all opted for the bottomless option and not once did we have to wait for a refill. Shoutout to our waitress, Nicole, for making our experience so lovely!

Love the food and the atmosphere of Essex! It’s a great spot to dine with friends after a long day of work! Love the Mac and cheese and the Essex burger with fries-it’s super filling! The salmon is really good too! The mango mojito mock-tail drinks are my good to and the toffee pudding is out of this world-especially with the scoop of vanilla ice cream to top it off! 10/10 would come back again!

They have a spacious area and can accommodate large groups. However, it was a bit loud.I ordered the Angus NY Strip Steak and Eggs and enjoyed it.

First time here and wow. The atmosphere is calm, nice music and great service. Tried the Herb omelet and OMG it hit the spot. Happy hour included a lot of drinks options but wanted the endless mimosas. Went here with my girlfriends and cant wait to come back again.

Came here for brunch with friends on a Saturday. While the food was pretty average, the service and atmosphere were absolutely amazing. Rachel was our server and she was so sweet, so attentive and continuously asked us if we need anything. We did bottomless brunch and she was filling our glasses without us even asking. Alright, so I’ve been here over 10 times and I think it’s time that I can confidently say this is one of the best restaurants I’ve had in New York! Seriously! They are CONSISTENTLY delicious! They take such pride and care in their food and constantly pay attention to detail. I love love it here! If you want great food, I highly highly recommend for dinner and lunch!I think their only draw is their aesthetic, but not every place is for Instagram. Place is amazing good music great envy. Really good proportion of food. Staff is friendly and great. My server was Cynthia she was wonderful really attentive. I loved Felipe too such a delight his desert was delicious. I want to marry him. ❤️❤️❤️I highly recommend this place.

Recently ate here on Xmas, great service & environment, the food was good except the apple tart- which was undercooked, not soft, lacked flavor. The steak frites were good although there could have been a small serving of vegetables on it.Id definitely go back another time.

Three of us had brunch around 2 on Sunday. This is definitely a hangout place but it was still good for a family with one two yr old. Brunch they served was good enough with good quality mac and cheese.

It was a delightful experience. The menu boasts classic American fare with a twist, and each dish is a flavorful journey. The laid-back atmosphere, combined with friendly service, creates a welcoming space for a casual meal or a night out.

Food delicious, service great.Don’t advertise it’s a 6 dollar draft beer happy hour on the chalk sign outside and then charge 7 indoors on the printed menus. That’s a recipe for a 1 star review.

Love the vibes at this place. Popped in for happy hour w a friend on a rainy Wednesday. Great happy hour menu. Loved the dim light candles and music. Def a great spot to catch up w a friend. I got the Palomita and would highly recommend. It’s so refreshing when you can chill at a bar and actually have a conversation. Perfect acoustics 🤌🏽

This place is maybe the biggest scam in the city. From botted reviews and social media followings, to short staffing packed sections, this place is clearly cheap, deceptive, and so much worse than any other restaurant Ive tried in the LES.My wife and I went here for the Christmas Eve prix-fixe dinner. We had reservations, but came early to have a drink at the bar. After ten minutes the bartender never once asked us what we wanted to drink- a server had to come and ask. The bartender brought the drinks without looking at us nor saying a word.The drinks were *terrible*, by the way. Theres a bird-themed drink that comes with sake, gin, and campari- sounds delicious, right? But it also comes with a sickly amount of vanilla syrup and is served in a tacky bird glass that requires you to drink out of the birds ass. The Moscow mule is too sweet, the old fashioned is too sweet- all the drinks taste like they were designed for a college dive bar.We got seated at our reserved standard dining table as opposed to the other two options- hightops, and staying at the bar. Hightops are uncomfortable, and the bar even more so, so we stayed with the standard option. For some reason, this means we get sent to the second floor, cramped into a unsightly section on a tiny table. The first floor is beautiful but only has hightops, the second floor is ugly and sparse but comes with normal seating. Who designed this? Its completely backwards.We quickly order the prix fixe, expecting things to move fast since... Its a prix fixe. Would you believe that wed be waiting twenty minutes for the first course, thirty for the second, and twenty for the third? And we werent alone- every table around us was filled with people looking around for the lone poor server assigned to the entire second floor. Not his fault, but these ticket times, especially for a prix fixe, were embarrassing.The food was middling at best. Everything needed more flavor, from the under seasoned duck rilette appetizer to the incomprehensible watery mille feuille dessert. Even the espressos we ordered with desert tasted like shots of Maxwell House.Just cheap from top to bottom. Cheap drinks, small portions, understaffing. The nearly 8,000 reviews you see here, giving this place a laughable 4.8 stars, can be comfortably disregarded. This restaurant is a scam. Dont waste your time and money.

Wintry Wednesday evening in the LES, we decided to revisit old haunts on the now well gentrified Rivington St. Most of the Latino eateries, pickle shops and bargain clothiers are all shuttered and long forgotten memories.Weve stopped in at ESSEX for their happy hours and bottomless brunches, but this was the first time the 4 of us sat at a table and ordered from the food menu.Our server Jessica, from Staten Island (is that part of NY or NJ? - JK, JK!) was a treasure from go and treated us like locals. She explained the menu and found us a great California cab that we would not have ordered.Starters included the grilled octopus salmon crudo, veal meatballs (so light and tender!) and pork belly (ok, but not super special). No complaints here. For the entrees, 2 steaks, a little more medium than medium rare, but still acceptable with squashed fingerling potatoes (really potato-ey) and sauteed oyster mushrooms. Cous cous with pan fried salmon was hearty and the lamb ragu pasta was rich, in a tomato based gravy, but slightly on the oily side. Everything was well-seasoned and served fresh and hot. Dessert was the panna cotta (didnt hold together, but otherwise tasted fine) chocolate tart, nice and dense and the raspberry sorbet. All 3 courses were good, but its pretty special what good service does by elevating the entire experience. Thanks Jessica for a wonderful family evening!

Came here for a quick happy hour around 5. Place wasnt busy yet so was able to get a high top for our party of 4 right in the front. Service was understandably good since there werent many people there.Happy hour specials were great. $8 speciality cocktails and $1.50 oysters (good sized) were a hit. I wish we came a little later and stayed longer because it started to fill up. Go here with confidence.

It’s was a Bday dinner when we went to Essex. The cocktails were good, the service was nice, but we didn’t like the food at all. Shishito peppers were completely raw, calamari had strange flavor seasoned with curry, we returned the gnocchi because they tasted horrible… Steak was good, good meat, but the potatoes very extremely seasoned and salty. What I really liked was mac and cheese which I don’t usually order anywhere. And octopus was decent. Not something what I would come back to

Helena found my lost dog, gave us the keys to her Ferrari and gave us both a steak dinner with free brunch to celebrate my birthday 6 months out. 10/10

Essex has a wonderful brunch! We went for Restaurant Week and the food was great. For $30, we got a tasty starter of mac n cheese and then a solid entree. We also added the bottomless drinks and has mimosas and aperol spritzes. Our waitress Katie was so kind and attentive. Highly recommend!

I love eating brunch at Essex. I used to come here since 2008 when it was behind the Essex market and I’m glad that they’re still here across the street. Eggs are always super well cooked with the best bacon in the world and the home fries or Chris. Anna, our server was the best, she made great recommendations and took really good care of us. I will be back soon.

I havent been in years and finally came back for the bottomless brunch. Helena was awesome and always made sure our drink glasses were full. We all had a great time and will be back soon.

We visited here during Restaurant Week, so we got some great deals on the menu. The food was quite tasty and prepared as requested. The service here was excellent, the staff were fastidious and always on hand.Its a great location to have a conservation and for group dining. The main dining area doesnt have much in the way of natural lighting but the eclectic light designs give the space a notably unique character.

After reading mixed reviews I took a chance and visited and this place did not disappoint. The vibe was very sexy, great for a date night. I went for restaurant week and happy hour and left very happy. The food service was very slow. The food and drinks sooo good I could not deduct a point. The drinks were very strong and everything I ate was super flavorful. The service was amazing. I was a party of one but they were very welcoming and let me choose my seating as I sat close to an area where I could people watch. I will be back for happy hour again. Thank you Essex for this wonderful experience.

4.3 /5. Fun, rockin’ Happy Hour. As I waited for my friends to arrive, the waiter was attentive and asked if I wanted to be served as she dropped off the menus. I got my drink & water before they arrived several minutes later. Water glasses were quickly filled and the waiter came by again to take drink and food orders. We started with the oysters, unfortunately, they were a bit small and not so tasty - was not a fan of the sauces provided. I would probably try this again as it’s not really the season for oysters right now. The shrimp wantons was a table favorite, as was the calamari. The flatbread was small and just Ok. We ordered a second round of food as it was our dinner. The Manchego mac and cheese was outstanding! It was probably the best Mac n cheese I’ve had at a restaurant with a healthy amount of cheese and perfectly prepared with a toasted top. The 3 of us were almost full but we managed to finish the very good truffle fries. I probably wouldn’t order the roasted peppers next time, even though they were prepared excellently. All the food arrived piping hot, which should be easy to do but most places don’t do this. The place was buzzy with people drinking but there was still room if you wanted to drink, arrive early for a table. Fantastic happy hour! Oct 2024

The food is terrible. Really, really bad. The drinks and the service are why you come here. If you want to experience the true bottomless mimosa, you come here. Just be prepared for the worst food from a “high end” restaurant. I couldn’t even finish my burger. Medium rare was just raw.

The service was great. We had Crystal as our server and she was on it with refilling our limited mimoas which were delicious. She did great and had so much patience with our group. I ordered the bbq chicken and avacado arepa and it just was dry. Idk if it was the bbq chicken or the arepa that just didnt satisfy me. My friend ordered the steak and eggs and it looked very good with the steak looking juicy but they were put of A1 sauce so I wouldve been upset about that (A1 is a must on a steak for me personally). Overall I enjoyed it and would definitely come back to try something else.

You already know better spots , with more interesting food and drinks and either stellar or contemptuous service... But Essex is simply plain and average, but maybe thats whats needed. Like a plain pizza when the group cant decide on toppings 🤷🏾‍♂️ all said, my server was kind and generous, did not charge for extra shrimp for my grits.

We went on a Saturday morning, right before noon without reservations, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a group of 4 to be seated. Definitely make reservations if you can because after we were seated, we noticed the place got packed! It’s probably a great place for parties/big groups since there’s so many seats and space—which naturally makes the place on the louder side. Great service. The Aristocrat was a bit fishy/salty for my taste but still, decent.

Nice brunch environment, buzzing with house music and a millennial hipster-chic type of vibe. $45 flat fee for breakfast + unlimited mimosas or Bloody Marys. Food was good. Waitress Katie was attentive and friendly.

We’re not going back. Came for my birthday dinner, and in a relatively empty restaurant, they seated us next to an obnoxious large party. Our server never checked on us, drinks took over thirty minutes, food took over an hour to hit the table after multiple prods. We had a hard stop for another reservation, and had to scarf down the food before rushing out the door. We barely got an apology, let alone any kind of comps for the egregiously bad service. I wish I’d gone to the McDonald’s on Essex instead.

The food was ok!The won ton shrimp and the duck meatballs were good!! The steak and the chicken were cooked very well... BUT the fries were soggy and the sides on the main dishes were horrible!!

I came with a group of 4 for restaurant week. We all thought the food was very good. Our server, Racheal, was amazing. Loved her vibe, she got the whole group laughing and made sure we had a great experience. Stand out dishes for me were the lamb ragu, beat salad, and Greek yogurt Panna cotta for dessert.

I just came to Essex in NYC from Reno NV for the first time. I have to start off by saying, “I don’t usually write these,” but Katie was one of the best servers I’ve ever came across. We were first sat at a table, in my opinion, in a high traffic area, so we asked to be re-sat. They moved us to the top overlook bar seating and filled our mimosas quickly. Food was ordered in a timely fashion and came out even faster. It was so good we ordered a third dish and finished off with a plenty full amount of mimosas. I will be back.

Food was good. I especially recommend the burgers and the quinoa and kale salad. However, the customer service is disappointing. Even though it wasnt particularly crowded, they tried to take down the plates that were still left. I felt unwelcome.

Came for the bottomless brunch on a Saturday and sat at the bar. Arrived around 12:30pm and was the only party at the table. Great as we received first class service. Had the mimosas and the Shrimp & Grits. Both were tasty and the only odd thing was the biscuit which I didnt touch. That could possibly be a optional item vs required.

Amazing restaurant week menu!! got the ribeye for two (two person minimum), beet salad, and panna cotta. I tried the duck meatballs, salmon, and prosciutto di parma. everything was delicious, service was very friendly and attentive, and the outdoor seating was perfect (much quieter than inside, which is quite loud). definitely recommend!

First time here and had a great experience! Rachel, our waitress, was awesome! Took her recommendation on getting the Brioche French Toast without too many sides. As thick and fulfilling it was, it was so scrumptious! Went well with the thick cut bacon! And the unlimited mimosas was worth it! Without hesitation, Rachel was there to refill us up! Had an amazing dinner here! Corn flatbread, burrata, and toffee sticky toffee pudding are 10/10. Also, honey crisp martini was amazing. Great staff, Victoria was the best.

Went here for brunch last Saturday with 3 others. We order the steak & eggs; and shrimp with grits. The food was delicious, and the server Solace was awesome. I would have given 5 stars but I have to admit it was so hot in the restaurant we were sweating tremendously. The server said it’s always warm there so hopefully by the summer it gets a little better for the workers because it was really warm for them to run up and down the stairs with hot plates. Never the less I can’t wait to return soon. The ambiance and crowd was great!

Slipped in for a quick dinner after seeing the incredibly high rating. Restaurant was pretty empty on a Friday night, except for an appallingly boisterous private party on the second floor. Was underwhelmed with the gnocchi. Prices are actually ok. $2 oysters! $15 cocktails.The rating for this place is perplexing, it’s impossibly high. And they all read suspiciously similarly.

This is our go-to brunch spot because the food is incredible and it’s THE BEST bottomless in NYC. Helen has ALWAYS been so amazing and keeps the mimosa and champers flowing.

Essex was amazing for brunch!! The absolute only thing we’d change is that the shrimp in the shrimp in grits was a bit soft, but was still delicious. Celeste was the best server!! Highly recommend.

Love this place. Food was delicious. I was here for the valentine prefixed dinner, no complaints whatsoever. Portions were great, service overall.My only dislike was the music was too loud for the occasion, was more like a lounge environment than romantic friendly like. I will definitely comeback for drinks.

Large airy space, decent boozy brunch deals and the staff were nice when we were late for our reservation. Food is decent and has a vegan brunch option! Probably not the place to go for a quiet brunch because they played club music pretty loud when we were there! Large portions, I ordered scrambled egg whites and it tasted pretty good. The tables and floors and chairs probably could use some cleaning or upgrading

Celeste was incredibly great at both service and conversation! She provided the most excellent service that I could have received. I got the Southern and it was both excellent looking and delicious.

This place is great and very low key. The service was perfect, and the food was also great. Its not pretentious and roomier than most other restaurants in the area. The mixed drinks were superb. I would like to see some other beers on the menu that are not draft choices. Keep up the good work, Ill be back.

I arrived early with a large group and Francesca sat us and ensured we had a fantastic experience. Our server Rachel was so amazing I had to leave a review for her 💕 she was very attentive to us and made sure our bottomless mimosas never reached the bottom. My friend and I got the Argus NY strip steak and it wasn’t very flavorful. I also wanted my steak medium well and it came medium rare.. so food was okay. Overall good brunch experience!

I really enjoyed brunch at Essex! Our waitress, Rachel, was kind, funny, and attentive. We had everything we needed and she was sensitive to my dietary restrictions. I did add hot sauce to my food for a little more flavor, but otherwise, everything was great. This is my favorite spot for bottomless brunch ☺️

This is a pretty good brunch spot, there’s definitely some good looking stuff on the menu. the burger is huge, juicy, and dripping with cheese. no complaints there. the oysters were a little bland, not fresh. and they told me the wrong location for them. not a big deal. my drink was terrible. a penicillin should not be watery with have pieces of peeled ginger in it. i could barely taste the scotch or the ginger, it was just flavored water and ice.

Rachael is the queen of servers! My drink was refilled after every sip and the conversation was hilarious! The brunch options were so good, I didn’t know what to choose (but highly recommend the Mac and cheese with chorizo!) Can’t wait to come back!

Went for brunch and things went great. Although its Covid, everything went pretty good because its was packed as before. They have outside as well as inside dining. Their unlimited mimosas & brunch were AMAZING. Our hostess was very attentive which was a plus. I got the Pulled BBQ Chicken w/ homemade Arepas which was amazing and my friend got the Vegan Mexican Matzo Brei which she really enjoyed. I would defintely come back.
