Wonderful, unique and special performance space downtown where it all began. I highly recommend seeing shows there or booking your own.

Great space, theater and location. Staff is great, stage space is large enough to have big performances yet intimate so that the audience feels connected. Check it out and bring your vision to life here as it is a hidden gem for performers and artists alike.

Small theater space with experimental and unique performances.

One of my favorite theaters in the city, I have done projections for four shows at the venue. Its so unassuming, the first time I walked into the bar I had no idea what I was in store for. The theater can fit over 100 people in the audience and the stage is huge, well lit, great sound, and an awesome projector. Beyond that the staff is so great, every single person I have worked with there is a kind soul and treated me with love and mountains of respect. Rob who helped with our show this week was so knowledgeable and accommodating to every request. The space is perfect for anything from a movie screening, dance performance, black box theater, symposium, conferences, etc. The only thing I was left wanting is an audio mixer that can natively record all the individual tracks of audio so it can be mixed later on. We did a stereo mix down that went to my zoom recorder which still sounded great. If you are a performer boom yourself at Dixon place, and if you are looking for good shows, they are always doing interesting and amazing stuff.

Rob (TD) is fantastic and professional. Space is easy to get to right off of the subway (about 2 blocks). Several spaces in the venue, bar, theater, studio, all you need. LGBTQ friendly. Tech is up to date. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely unique place for cutting edge dance & performance with the bonus of a cool bar. Get there early (have a drink) because seating can be chaotic, especially in the balcony.

A wonderful LGBT-supportive performance space in the LES. The bar is (the-only?) non-for-profit bar with a liquor licence, with all proceeds supporting the performance space. Go and watch, drink and support the wonderful artists at DP.

Dixon Place is not your typical performance space! Started 30+ years ago by founder Ellie Covan, DP is a laboratory for new theater, puppetry, variety arts, dance, poetry, music and much more. Being the only theater in NYC with a legal liquor license,they have a great lounge you can stop by anytime and have a drink. Come on down to Dixon Place and enjoy the comfort of the lounge and the wonderful exciting new shows.

Saw a great show there..probably one if the best New York City experimental theaters in the city.There is a fabulous bar..the venue is very comfortable..

This performance space has lots of character. Dixon has anything from puppet shows to folk bands to readings of new plays. Definitely worth checking out for the downtown performance feel.

Consistently BAD theater. Bartenders are clueless. The founder has zero respect for artists and even less for her employees and interns. Go here if you want to extinguish the spark of spirit in your heart with the decidedly small-minded bad energy that pervades this place. No! AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Love the intimate nature of the theatre. Very homey and rustic with a chill vibe. Take a train or walk to this location as parking is a nightmare.

As always the main stage area is one where just about any sort of performance can take place successfully. Last nights Circus Amock event proves it yet again.

Truly a LES staple and stalwart of theater. Ellie is still opening almost every show with her signature greeting. The lounge is as comfy as ever and the lifeline to the arts is as vital as ever.

Was here a couple times to see plays and movies done by an icon of theater Arif Silverman, and all I can say if every experience is as wonderful as the ones I had there then this may be the best performance space in all of New York

Really cool, large black-box style theater downstairs for various performance works. Upstairs is a small bar and smaller performance space ideal for comedians, small group musicians, etc. I love how this place is set up to allow for creatives to share. This place has a variety of Arts and performances and is a great place to hang with friends, a date, and even with family!

Went in this evening for the first annual International Human Right Art Festival. A hidden gem for live performance to see up and coming artists and drinks. Bar located upstairs and stage downstairs. Drinks are allowed inside the theater.Sitting space is very tight, would recommend arriving early.

Really cool space with a surprisingly large stage area. All proceeds of the bar go to support the theatre which is awesome, and everyone was friendly and helpful. Clean bathrooms. Strong drinks. Great overall!

I have seen some amazing theater here

The latest incarnation of this essential downtown performance space is its best. Theres a full bar up front (which is open even on dark nights in the performance space), and theres a small performance space in the lobby (many acts are free), as well as a really nice theater downstairs (you can bring your drink) where youre going to see an amazing variety of performance, ranging from solo shows to dance, etc. Tickets are generally under $20, and you can buy festival passes & season memberships.

Great LGBT-friendly space with a front bar and separate performance spaces. The talent they attract is world-class -- Taylor Mac tested parts of his forthcoming musical in the bar a few nights recently -- and the crowd could not be friendlier. If youve ever wondered why gay people are shallow or standoffish you have clearly NEVER been here.

One of the top spaces in NY for (frequently) LGBT-oriented performance. Naturally, what you see will be hit or miss, depending on the performer. I recommend it wholeheartedly though as a meeting place for middle-aged (and beyond) LGBT folks interested in the various arts. Which pretty much means all of us, right?

Loved seeing the amazing Angelica Pages one-woman show there a few weeks ago. Its a charming, quaint old facility on the Lower East Side that was perfect for Miss Pages splendid tribute to her mother, the late Geraldine Page.

Its a WONDERFUL place for ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT. Or just to sit at the bar and in the lounge to have a cocktail and mingle with new and old friends.

Vital space with many important diverse performances

Its a performance Space that I visited with a few friends. I noticed an interesting drink menu with prices under $10. There was no cover fee the night I was there to see a play.

Want alternative theatre? this is the place for you. there is a bar for preshow drinking and a very comfortable feeling throughout, echoing the previous iteration when the theatre was literally in the living room of the owners home.

Went for a friends play that they had. When I bought the ticket the woman wasnt very friendly. She said I could bring 1 drink into where the play was so I went to the bar and asked for a cider. The bartender was very rude and said $10 when my friend just bought the same thing for $7. When he carded me I stuck my hand out to take it back but he decided to toss it on the bar instead.

Distinguished place where you can, in addition to watching a fantastic performance, also have a drink. The bar has fun cocktails. I think they change them every so often. The shirt there is very nice.We recommend this place. Excellent for a date.
