It was somewhat hard to hear, but thats the challenge with open space rooms. My group came after service and we were in the back room. We had two long tables of 24 or so of folks. Better than others to hear each other, but still a challenge. The service was exceptional. Everyone who served our two tables were affable, engaging, while efficient. They were all a delight. Beverage service was refilled just as ones glass was emptied. Even though I have food allergies, that prohibited me from experiencing the full menu, my companions food was prepared both delicious to the eyes, and to their palate. The time they took to prepare the food reminded me of my time in Europe, slow food (in preparation) and prepared with love. The bread was delicious, as was my grilled cabbage and beets. SO yummy.

I mean, technically I got what I ordered (“Black Angus Beef on Sesame Brioche Bun, Tomato, Red Onion, Pickle, Garlic Fries”), but it just doesn’t look a burger you’d expect from a French restaurant. Full disclosure, i asked to leave out the lettuce and make it medium-well, but still…

Went there for Mother’s Day brunch with our little one in a stroller. We had a reservation and did not have to wait. They were very accommodating; they went above and beyond to find us a table that would allow us to sit next to our baby in the stroller. The food and service were great. I had the croque madame and my spouse had the classique Benedict. We also split a creme brulee. We also had a few cocktails and they were all great. The prices were also very reasonable! Would definitely recommend

The drinks were great and the server was nice and attentive! However some of the food was a bit disappointing. The mushroom soup wasnt creamy enough. The crab cake burger was cold and instead of crab cake it was just crab meat mixed with some sauce. Also, the garlic fries had very little garlic powder spread on the top only....i expected the garlic to be spread out evenly.

I have lived a couple of blocks away from Cafe Du Soleil for about four years, but just tried it out for the first time a few weeks ago. Wow! This is my new favorite brunch spot, hands down. My girlfriend and I have tried the hash brown combo, a couple of the benedictes, and the croque soleil. All were incredibly tasty, and the dishes have been consistent every time weve returned. I also really appreciate the quick, and friendly service, even when its during peak hours. Dan, Alec, and Kelly have been especially great! Highly recommended!

Cafe Du Soleil is a charming French bistro located in the heart of Manhattans Upper West Side. The restaurant has a cozy and intimate atmosphere, perfect for a romantic dinner or a night out with friends. The menu features classic French dishes. I had the Madame and for the sweet tooth Crêpe Au Nutella. The wine list is extensive, with a variety of French and international options to choose from. Overall, Cafe Du Soleil is a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic French dining experience in New York City.

Went there after loosing my driving licence. It was a relief.Ordered paté de campagne, coq au vin for 2 (which is large enough). My wife took a crème brûlée and I got the mousse au chocolat. Both were great but the mousse au chocolat deserves more than a 5/5, more like a 7,5/5. Got 2 spritz that are well dosed 😏😏Can only recommend for any French looking for food from la mère patrie.

As a French food enthusiast, I was a bit skeptical about combining the classic crepe with Nutella, but trust me, its a game-changer.The crepe itself is light, delicate, and perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of crispiness on the edges.Easy to make, delicious, perfect for breakfast or brunch

Drinks were pretty good and a fantastic happy hour deal. French onion soup was so great. But beware the “Burrata et avocado salad” for it is literally just 3 slices of avocado, 3 slivers of tomato, and 3 individual roasted garlic cloves. Not what we were expecting for something called a salad. An important heads up if you’re planing to go for happy hour: you can *only* sit in this one designated roped-off section with wobbly high top table and stools, directly underneath a large TV, right beside the front entrance. Even if you order a main dish from the main menu instead of the Happy Hour menu, even if the rest of the normal table are empty, they will not let you sit outside that section.

Returned last night 1/5/2021 for my wifes birthday. Ate in an igloo. Excellent food. Excellent service and the staff have the whole Covid thing worked out. It was 32F outside but too warm inside. Took off coats, turned down the heater. People behind me were dressed for a warm summer day and regularly popping out into the 32F air for what reasons I didnt know.Cant believe I didnt review this already. Must have been some place else. Was here 9/28/2020, almost a month ago as a break fast for Yom Kippur. It was Mussels Monday. Food was delicious. The place was magical. Really felt transported. So fortunate this place is so near to where I live. Will be returning soon. Favorite thing about the tent we ate (didnt get one of the clear plastic igloos, but that was ok), was the way you couldnt see the Broadway traffic so am very happy to see the return of the tent which looks more substantial than ever.

Excellent service, but I cant say the same about the food.We ordered onion soup, pâté, branzino, a burger, and mussels. The branzino was bad, and by bad I mean it smelled bad and tasted worse. We had to send it back.As for the mussels, in my opinion, they were poorly prepared. They were submerged in butter. I’m not sure where in France they prepare them like this, but Ive been there quite a few times, and Ive never seen that. The onion soup was very good, and the pâté was average.I cant consider it good French food.

I live in the neighborhood and want to enjoy it here, but one way or another, it keeps missing for me. We were there today. All started well. Drinks were good. Vichyssoise came promptly and was fine. Then things went downhill. People who came in way after us got their food first. Probably a 10-15 minute discrepancy. The reason given was that one of us ordered a burger medium-well. This was absurd. A hamburger causing the delay? Maybe theres a 2 minute difference between medium rare and medium well? In any event, it came well done, not medium at all. And omelette came hardened as though it had been waiting under a lamp for a while. And coconut creme caramel didnt taste of coconut or caramel. The server was nice. Thats about all I can say went right.

I am a longstanding fan of Cafe du Soleil. They have an extensive menu, and the food is good and well priced for the quality. No one should expect Michelin-star gastronomy, this is solid bistro cuisine, and they do that well. The happy hour is an exceptional value, and I dont know how they make money, but having to be at the (tight) bar does a pretty good job of rationing service, so either come early or be willing to stand. I particularly relish the fact that the staff here are willing to tolerate my terrible French. This is a place I bring my friends and family, and look forward to doing so for a long time to come!

Cafe du Soleil is situated beside the river Stour in Canterbury occupying a former 18th century wool store. The restaurant is accessed by its own bridge over the river. The building was restored with a grant from English Heritage and it now showcases the extensive use of reclaimed building material from the 14C city wall. Cafe’s cuisine draws influences from Provence in southern France, from Italy and from the Pacific rim, to create a modern cuisine with a Mediterranean heart. The menu changes with the seasons, and much of our food is cooked in our wood burning oven, fed with locally sourced wood from managed forest.

We dined at this restaurant on New Years Day and it was really nice. We were seated in an outside pod which was heated. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was good. We started off with drinks: mimosa, bellini mango, and raspberry ginger mocktail. The drinks were refreshing. I enjoyed my eggs Benedict with hollandaise sauce, smoked salmon and salmon roe on toasted English muffins and side of roasted potatoes. My sister ate Croque soleil with side of mixed greens which she liked as well. My husband ate a burger with a side of garlicky French fries. We finished our meal by sharing a Nutella crepe with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Yum, yum, and more yum!The place was busy and lively. Bathrooms were clean and tidy.

The bubbles were cute but the food was subpar and the waiter was horrible. I had to wait 20 minutes for a glass of water, they only gave us 3 glasses for our 4 person party. When we asked our waiter for a recommendation, he basically told us the most expensive items on the menu. Following his advice, we ordered the steak and I think it was the worst steak I have ever had. It was completely tasteless, even with the sauce. He forgot to put our appetizer order in and brought out our sides before putting in our main dish order. They also kept leaving the door of our bubble open, which I understand they did because their hands were full, but it left us cold and made our sides which they brought out early freezing by the time our food came. To their credit, they brought us fresh fries. The salads, French onion soup, and garlic fries were good.

Made a reservation for the outdoor bubble dining - but they tried to sit us at a regular table... The host had an attitude which was completely unacceptable. Who makes a reservation for anything other than your heavily advertised bubble dining? No one but apparently you think we do. Yikes. The waiter on the other hand was the only reason I gave this two stars, he was friendly and made ordering easy. The food however was very salty. The short ribs and potatoes had me drinking a whole glass of water. The soup with wild mushrooms wasnt even creamy. The avocado with crab and shrimp salad tasted good, but why do you leave the shells of the shrimp or crab in there? I wouldnt recommend. If you need to reserve a bubble, make sure you either have four people or just reserve the table for four, cause reserving for two will get you no bubble.

Went for Mothers Day dinner. I was surprised to see that the regular menu was not available. So, the mussels I went there for were not on the menu. We (2) were seated at a table in the corner, next to the maitre d stand, which meant lots of drawer banging right next to us. When my son inquired if the outdoor pods were heated, he was told they werent. I am now reading reviews that say they are! I asked for a house red wine, which ended up costing the same as the wines on the wine menu ($12). The fried calamari and frisee arugula salad were good. The server asked us to hold on to the used utensils for the entree. There was no place to put them, except on our napkins, which was messy. We both had the fettuccine with seafood for entrees. 2 shrimp, 2 mussels (plus one empty shell on mine), calamari, and overcooked pasta for $26 each. Overall, a disappointing dinner.

I really wanted to give this restaurant a higher rating. 3 is being completely fair.We came with family over the holiday and dined in an outdoor heated bubble. We like those :)The service was friendly, appetisers and cocktails were also lovely. We had the mussels, fries, French onion soup and the frisée avocado salad. The problem with was everything else ordered was just so-so or inedible. The biggest issue for me was my Boeuf Bourguignon. I was excited to have this but the beef was very tough! I actually sent it back expecting the chef to at least pick out some tender pieces. It was still tough. I just did not eat it.Also, the Le Cassoulet Toulousain was basically just a big dish of white beans with a few pieces of meat. You really must love baked white beans to enjoy this dish. The lamb leg however was Okei and the asparagus risotto was a true French risotto (meaning it has a little crunch to it) I do not personally mind that, however worth mentioning in case some people do not.Again, appetisers and drinks were a big hit with myself and family! Would go just for that :)

I had made a reservation last week to come enjoy a meal with my girlfriend for my birthday after seeing a news article on the space bubbles they have. I had specifically wrote through email that I would like to reserve a space bubble, as their social media postings had said we could do. The person who responded said that it would be no problem at all. I unfortunately made the commute to find out that you could not in fact reserve a space bubble that they so heavily advertise. They had seating available but not under the space bubbles I had hoped we would get. For something so advertised you would think that they would communicate exactly what you could reserve. Also the website had said they were doing Thursday night specials so we planned accordingly. We come to also find out that in little more of a week they had cancelled their specials too. At that point we decided to enjoy one of the other many restaurants in the area, as I suggest you do.

The restaurant has a very pleasant ambiance and reminds me of Paris cafes. The service is extremely gracious. I love croque mosieurs, and the one I had here was dry. Not enough bechamel sauce. Of course, I did eat the whole thing. The French fries were good and very French. The manager was gracious when we mentioned about how dry the croquet was. Overall, I would recommend and give the restaurant another try.

We arrived 30 minutes before the kitchen was to close yet we were never rushed! After enjoying a cocktail at the bar we moved to a perfect table looking outside, ordered a bottle of wine and totally enjoyed a salad and then our main course. As the kitchen was obviously closed by the time we finished our meal, we were offered a desert of what was available without having the chef in the kitchen. We only declined because we could not eat another thing! We closed the place and left knowing we would return soon.

Discovered Cafe Du Soleil when I was looking for a spot to watch the World Cup and it’s a great find. Maybe the best happy hour in Manhattan. 4-7pm, 7 days a week, bar section only. Great selection of cocktails, wine, and beer, ALL $6. Negroni? $6. Aperol Spritz? $6. Gin Fizz? Yep, $6. Good food as well and a lovely atmosphere.

Terrible service. DO NOT GO HERE. My sister and I went today because we saw the pods on Instagram. On the website it states that pods are first come first serve... yeah right. The rude manager literally kept saying how pods were reserved and denied people several times one after the next , claiming only bigger party’s could have them , when clearly couples sat in them prior. He just randomly picked and chose . We had a reservation and he still denied us. Our waiter sat us and then disappeared for a whole hour. No one came to us to offer more wine or ask how the food was. Thankfully another waiter saw how upset we were and asked us about more wine. Nothing was on the house, the waiter only appeared at the end to give us the check. The same thing happened to a couple near us. They were so disappointed. Food was eh, servers were rude, except for that only one that came by since our server ignored us the ENTIRE time. Will never go back.

Here’s the thing about how French restaurants have consistently thrown shade for decades.... they’ve ACTUALLY been THAT good. Not the case, definitely not the case, with Cafe du Soleil.Their delivery times are erratic, their fries aren’t fresh, meat temps erratic and my feverish pet peeve... their escargot portion!?!?People... this is a dish for which extremely specific cookware has been designed and cast in porcelain and cast iron over centuries. They’ve repeatedly sent six dime-sized snails alongside toast points that towered over them. The restaurant hung up on me twice. Here’s the thing... the crockery doesn’t lie!! The dish in which escargot are broiled in is centuries old... it evokes a standard, demands it, and the size of snail it’s designed for is roughly that of a large egg yolk - period.I asked Cafe du Soleil to either honor this tradition or cancel my order. They ignored my request and sent the entire order. It took an hour of NOT enjoying any of my food (including two hang ups from them) before Seamless/Grubhub finally realized enough time had elapsed that the entire meal had gone cold. Screw Café du Soleil - they’re like a mistress not worth the VD.

Its been a long time since I have reviewed a restaurant (in the past on Yelp, never on Google). I use both Google and Yelp for reviews, addresses, hours, phone numbers, etc. They are great resources for a hungry Manhattanite. But today, I felt I had to write about a really disappointing experience.Breakfast meeting with an old friend and influential lady in my business (fine arts). I convinced her to visit my neighborhood, instead of heading down to hers and having breakfast at French Roast Uptown, our usual spot and a great place. (Try the Salade Lyonnaise.)She wanted a good cup of coffee, so my neighborhood fav (the best diner in New York IMHO) was out of the question. (Even a great diner can have terrible coffee, by coffee -lover standards.) So Cafe Du Soleil it was. A block from my house, pricey, but at least the coffee is fine.My friend ordered the American Breakfast, me the Parisian omelette. Our food arrived. Her American Breakfast was more than ample and she shared her sausage with me. One bite and I noticed the interior was cold. I spat out my bite and looked at the uncooked pink interior. Pork, unlike beef and good fish, can never be eaten raw or undercooked, it would be inviting serious trouble. I called over the manager and explained the issue. I didnt want my omelette, which I hadnt started and had the spat out sausage on it, and I had lost my appetite. Please bring me another coffee, I said. And can you just comp me my omelette? After all, I wasnt going to eat it.Bill comes and we are charged for the omelette. I approach the manager and he responds that I didnt order the sausage in question (remember it was my breakfast companions), that if I dont eat pork (something I never said) I shouldnt be eating sausage anyway, etc. I dont lose my temper, and I am generally a polite, well-manered customer. I tell him that at this point, he should probably just comp us the whole meal. He tells me not be rude (basically to go fly a kite) and then informs me that the owner is over at the bar, but that I shouldnt bother him, hes a busy man after all.Forget that. I walk up to the owner and tell him my story. He reacts as if I am a pitiable simpleton. Fair enough. But I tell him this, I grew up in my parents French bakery in California. From a young age I worked the front counter under my fathers guidance. When a customer had a complaint I did whatever was in my power to respect him or her, listen and remedy the situation. If somebody were to get a bad croissant [which never occurred in 20 years of business], I wouldnt give them the keys to the castle, but I would certainly do what I could to make them come back and tell their friends what an amazing experience they had had. To me that is customer service 101. He brushed me off and I left, my friend paying the bill (minus my coffee and the omelette). So in the end, I usually dont write about restaurant customer service unless it is really above and beyond. I like to focus on the food. But comps, how you treat customers, what is an acceptable loss, these should never be a simple calculation of instant profits from the establishments perspective. Sometimes you have to take the $10 loss and live to fight another day, rather than alienate someone who is a current customer and whom you really dont know. Instead, if you decide that it doesnt really matter, that that $10 profit is worth never seeing that person again, then, I just have to assume that at some point it will catch up with you. If it were a simple matter of bad staffing (at the managerial level) then maybe I wouldnt have written this review. But when it is the owner, it gives me pause and motivates me to really call it out and question an establishments commitment to its profession.Cafe Du Soleil: food ok, prices high, service leaves a lot to be desired.Definitely not going back, would never take a friend or party there (their loss I suppose). And I would recommend that you look twice before swallowing your sausage. Trichinosis is serious.

Poor food quality and extremely rude waiters. I came with my friend to celebrate her birthday, which it turned out to be her worst birthday ever.Table clothes and utensils are dirty, apparently nobody in the restaurant cares about hygiene. When my friend mentioning to the waiter about the table clothes, instead of apologizing, he said why dont you mention it earlier? Then my friend talked to the manager (probably the owner) about the waiters attitude and dirty table clothes, the manager got mad and said ok thats enough, just leave. And he also said good luck with your life. My friend said thats fine, we wont come back again. The manager then followed us outside and said just go away, we dont need people like you!The manager even stepped on my shoes without apologizing... What an amazing restaurantFood:1. Foie gras is unfresh and disgusting... Smell like rotten meat.2. Fish and lamb are tasteless and dry.3. Even their French fries are bad... Taste like oven made frozen French fries. Now I just want to quote the managers word good luck with your life to the restaurant.

Speaking of the owner we had a chance to meet him and introduced ourselves to him, he was very warm and friendly unlike one of his waitresses. The look on his waitresses face every time she had to cater to us was not friendly at all, she never smiled not once and never said welcome or hello or introduced her at least. She had this face on like she it bothered her that she had to serve us. Her eyebrows were raised every time she came to us. My wife and I tried to be friendly with her hoping it would change her attitude but to no avail. Sad because the place is a really cute spring and summer French spot l, and the owner was super polite. The owner and my wife spoke a little in French to each other being that shes from Britney and the owner said he was from Strasbourg.

I dont know if it was just an off night, but not a great experience overall. We went on a Tuesday evening and while busy, it wasnt completely packed, but service was painfully slow.We ordered a bottle of wine, and there were so many fruit flies that two different peoples glasses ended up with bugs in them. The restaurants response was to suggest covering the glasses with our napkins. They also spilled a decent amount of wine on the table when refilling a glass. Two of our party ordered burgers, both were way overdone. One was sent back since it was supposed to be a cheeseburger but had no cheese, and it took 20+ minutes to be replaced.Towards the end of the meal, they came out and poured us a glass of wine on the house to apologize for the flies - however it was a bottle of their house red that was very different from the expensive bottle of red we had ordered - and they poured it into glasses that still had the original (different) wine, mixing the two, without asking.Dessert was the best thing - pistachio cheesecake was very good - but bizarre experience otherwise.
