After visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral, my partner and I wanted to explore some international cuisine. We came across Bistro38, a Cuban restaurant highly recommended on Xiaohongshu, and it brought back memories of an amazing dining experience we had at Versailles in Miami last year. Naturally, we were excited to give this place a try.The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, and the service was friendly. However, as the sign mentioned an “American” twist, I had a feeling the flavors might be adjusted for local tastes. We ordered two signature dishes: Braised Ribs and Paella. While the dishes were enjoyable, they leaned heavily on pre-made tomato sauce, which introduced a strong acidic note that overpowered the subtler, aromatic flavors typically found in Cuban cuisine. This isn’t to say the food wasn’t good—it just wasn’t the authentic flavor profile we were hoping for, especially compared to the vibrant and unforgettable dishes we had at Versailles. My partner, on the other hand, enjoyed the meal more than I did, so it might appeal to those who like a more Americanized interpretation.Overall, Bistro38 is worth trying if you’re looking for a Cuban-inspired meal with a local twist. Personally, I think reducing the reliance on tomato sauce would bring the flavors closer to traditional Cuban cuisine, but that’s just my personal perspective.
BSTRO 38 is a gem of a dining experience that left us absolutely impressed. We went in with high expectations, and from start to finish, the meal was exceptional. The ambiance of BSTRO 38 was intimate yet lively, with attentive service that made us feel welcomed and well-cared for throughout the meal. They delivered an outstanding dining experience, with each dish showcasing both quality and artistry.
I ordered what they list as their signature dish, short rib ($38 + tax). I found that all the flavor of the meat had been taken out of the tender chunk of meat during the cooking of it. The only flavor it had was from the sauce. The mashed potatoes that came with the short rib were bland. The atmosphere is very pleasant (see my photo).
Very good food and comfy experience with awesome with awesome service. We enjoyed two glasses of the red wine during their happy hour which are about $10 each and they also have some cocktails on the happy hour and beer at a great price around six dollars. To eat I had the fillet which came with a yummy peppercorn sauce and he’s really good crispy onion, strings and green beans and very nice mashed potatoes and my husband had the pork chop with the truffle sauce, which was smelled really good for my side. I don’t eat pork, but he thought it was delicious and it was quite a good portion. The prices again they’re not super expensive, but it is common for the area I would say. They also have a nice long bar to enjoy.
WHAT A FIND!!!!! We found B|stro38 on our last night in NYC and our only regret is we didn’t find it sooner. The food caters for all tastes and is beyond delicious! I had the Gambas to start and they were beautiful, then the bass on risotto for mains which had so many subtle tastes and every mouthful a delight! (Meant to take more photos but forgot as enjoying the meal and evening so much!!!)After the hectic-ness of NYC the restaurant was just what we needed to end our holiday in a calm but super friendly place. Diane was so welcoming and ensured we had everything we needed.Genuinely a remarkable and beautiful place to eat and drink. Thank you so much!!!!!
Food is delicious here! Dubbed an American Bistro but Cuban style food is what makes it special. Must try!
This was one of the best dining experiences I think Ive had in my life. From the first foot in I was greeted by name by Starlin who seemed to be a psychic. The starter was a blissfully tender octopus that genuinely melted in the mouth. Starlin never missed a beat to answer our questions before we even asked them. I had the short-rib grilled cheese which was to die for and heaps of fries. My partner had a tuna blt which was amazing and felt refreshing at each bite.If youre in New York city do yourself the pleasure of coming here even just for the service. The delightful food is just an excellent bonus
Nice selection of entrees. Both steak and fish entrees a little underseasoned. Excellent beet salad. Fairly long wait to get entrees.
Best meal in New York. Will 100% be returning on our next visit. I had the short rib and the husband had the burger . Beyond exceptional. The short rib serving was huge. Honestly the nicest food weve had. I ended with the sorbet which was the perfect end to the night. The hubbie had 2 x old whiskey sour and he agreed extremely good. Quality of food was excellent, quality of the service team was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful . Decor was spot on. Lovely and comfortable night out . Would 100% recommend this restaurant and if in New York go.
After a long day the drinks here were delicious, coconut mojito with a sugar cane stick so yum. We had the spicy mussels and the calamari both were phenomenal. The entrees were huge and came out pretty quick. We had the chicken with yellow rice and a side of sweet plantains, steak with yellow rice, arroz con pollo -chicken rice dish well seasoned and was very tasty! All dishes came with black beans or a salad. Our server was so gracious and accommodating, she went above and beyond for us. Both my aunts phones died and she took them while we were eating to charge them for us. The staff was so friendly. The bathroom was clean and actually smelled great which may seem like a small thing but in Manhattan this was great. All in all a great experience.
Welcome to BSTRO 38 where you can find a bar serving mojitos in the front while serving traditional Cuban dishes in the dining room on two floors. This stylish and cozy restaurant has the perfect ambience to get together for a delicious fine meal. Browse through their extensive drinks menu with half price wine bottles every Monday and Wednesday. Choose from lip smacking starters from lamb chops to skewers to empanadas. Their attentive and friendly staffs are always around for any questions and clearing out the table ready for the next course. We had pan roasted salmon and roasted chicken breast for entree which was juicy and flavorful. Remember to save room for dessert. The cheesecake definitely hits the sweet spot.
We had a great experience at Bistro 38 the service was incredible and the food and drinks were amazing !!!
Food: 3/5Service: 4/5Ambiance: 4/5Overall: Ive been here a couple of times so it might have just been a bad cooking night. The extended review....Food:Ropa Vieja - 3/5 - The last time I was here this wasnt quite so bad. The meat was a little bit dry this go around. The dish proportion overall is pretty good though coming with rice and beans.House Salad - 3/5 - This dish was pretty standard fare.Service: 4/5 - Friendly and attentive service.Ambiance: 4/5 - A nice place with a good amount of seating.
Let me start with the good. The service was great, and so was the Cuban coffee. It was exactly like what I got in Havana. The empañadas come out quick and piping hot. I would venture to say they were some of the best Ive had, actually. Also the entire presentation was beautiful. The total order was the beef empañadas as an appetizer, the seafood paella, a mojito, and Cuban coffee. The mojito was strong enough and was decent, but small for the price. (In thier defense I live out of state, and things are pricier in NY)Now the Paella.... (Insert sad face and thumbs down) As you see from the picture, it was beautiful. However the disappointment came as I served myself. The rice was a bit undercooked in the middle yet mushy on the outside. And the lack of flavor and seasoning was an abomination. The calamari was over cooked and rubbery. The remaining seafood was cooked properly but also lacked flavor. Maybe saffron and salt were the missing ingredients. Im no chef, but I was disappointed in this $55 dollar plate. After two bites, I abandoned the entree and asked for a check. The server took great care of me which is why I gave 3 stars. Im hoping this was a fluke as the appetizers were very good!
Have been going to NYC for many years for business and pleasure. Found this restaurant on 38th st in Manhattan near the hotel. Food was some of the best I have had in NYC. Had a big group. 10 of us. EVERYONE really liked the food. Thats not always easy to find a place like that. Prices were good. Need to remember it is NYC.
Delicious cuban food and amazing staff. Very friendly. I got there with my guest as soon as the doors opened and they were ready to serve us right away!
Love, love, love this place. They have the right amount of seasoning. Even if you are Vegan they got you covered. You also have to try the coconut mojito, you will not be disappointed. I come here all the time.
We were visiting New York city for the first time and we stayed in the Manhattan area. This place was just 3-4 min walking distance from our hotel. We are Cubans and we were curious to try the Cuban food from a NY restaurant 😂The service was great, the food was awesome. The food portions were big. Only thing I didn’t like was the croquetas, they didn’t have any flavor and were a little bit pricy for just 2 croquettes. One night we had the special Rib Eye, and the second night we had the churrasco. Both were delicious! We went there to have dinner 2 of the 4 nights we were staying, so I think that say’s it all. We simply loved it. We will definitely be coming back if we visit NY again.
Havana NY is a beautiful Cuban restaurant with an amazing dining atmosphere, upbeat music, and exquisite food. The proprietor is an extremely kind gentleman and the staff are superb. You must stop in to Havana if you love flavor food and phenomenal service.
BSTRO 38 is a hidden GEM in the midtown area that was giving a blend of a warm, old-fashioned ambiance vibe but with that modern culinary creativity. The drinks were def a highlight, being By the Fire cocktail, perfect zesty start to the meal. A friend got the Old Fashion, by far smoothest I have ever had. The Tuna Tartare was a fresh and balanced appy, setting the stage for the main event. The Filet Mignon, cooked to tender perfection, melting in your mouth with every bite. The staff are amongst the nicest as they come, always trying to make sure you have the best experience possible. Will definitely be coming back soon!
Beautiful place ! Loved the food and the atmosphereThe lavender martini was outta this world b delicious 😋
Good Cuban food! Churrasco was well cooked, flan was creamy, and the sweet plantains soooo yum.
Had a delicious meal at Bistro 38 last night. First visit to NYC, glad I found this restaurant close to our hotel. Began with clam chowder, husband had the grilled octopus, both outstanding. Main courses were the special spinach pasta with shrimp & seafood paella, again both wonderful. Shared a slice of NY cheesecake to complete our meal. Without doubt the best meal of our trip. Friendly service & atmosphere. Bistro 38 is a little NYC gem.
Love this place. Cozy, good food, decent prices, good drinks. I always get the Blackened Catfish and Tres Leches for dessert. Both are excellent.
This place has definitely changed their menu (or even entire concept). They dont serve Cuban food anymore, but the burrata pita was still fine and the service was nice.
Organised a small work get together, the team was great, especially Ashley! They were very flexible and accommodated our last minute change of set-up.Highly recommended!
Came here last week and tried peirna de cerdo (pork shank) and ropa vieja (roasted beef with rice and beans). The pork shank is amazingly prepared, juicy and tender. In comparison, tops vieja wasn’t impressive given the similar price it costs. Service and vibe are nice!
While visiting NYC with my 11 year old daughter we stopped in here for dinner one Friday night. We did make reservations a few hours ahead of time just to secure a table. We had no problem getting sat at the time we chose. Very quaint atmosphere but still kid (older kid) friendly. The food was fantastic and it came out relatively fast. Our waiter was very pleasant and made us feel very welcome. It is pretty pricey so expect a decent sized bill but worth it. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for something different for dinner one night.
The shrimp tacos were great. I loved the citric variation. I also enjoyed the ceviche. The place is nice, the music was upbeat and I felt welcome. I would certainly come back.
Empanadas were small and decent but lacking flavor. Ribeye special was fatty but good and the spinach mashed potatoes were very good. Flank steak was sub par. Atmosphere was casual and nice. Don’t want to sound cheap but on the bill the suggested tips for the servers (%-wise) were very high-started at 20% and went up from there. Thought that was a bit of a strong armed tactic. Never saw those “suggestions” before.
Form the martini I had to start, to the several appetizers, and finishing with the lobster.... everything was amazing.
Visited there 2 times. I didnt like their surf and turf, especially the steak tasted horrible. They put only two or three shrimps. Speed of service was a bit slow, so that we couldnt finish even half for the lunch break. The 38th Street smelled disgusting, and it made me lose all the apatite.
Did a quick happy hour had the guava margarita was pretty well made for house tequila guava wasnt to over powering recommend for quick bites and drinks
Good place and the.food have good taste. You can have amaizingtime with amaizing music.. latina
Great food. Great service. I love the ambiance. They were even kind enough to sing happy n day to my husband. Great spot and we will certainly return.
Excellent service. Clean place and casual attire. Fantastic looking bar. Outdoor seating available. Great tasting food.
It was an amazing meal. The salmon was incredible. We met the owner he is a very chalerous man who gave us an unforgettable experience in New York
Pollo la plancha with tres leches and cafe con leche to call it a night. My go to meal. Absolutely delicious!!!
Great vibe, Great food, Great service. Friendly staff, good decor and music. I really enjoyed my Cubano and my wife liked her salmon tacos.
We chose this Bistro because of the beautiful design and we were amazed by the delicious food! Great recommendation!
The branzino (sea bass) dish was to die for! My recommended drink was a mint julip type (cant quite remember the name) but it was tasty
More fine dining, entrees tend to be around $30+. Portion sizes are moderate and service was fast and nice. The food itself is great, very flavorful. The fish tacos had an amazing thin, crispiness and great acidic balance. Quiet and nice atmosphere.
Absolutely amazing restaurant! We decided to extend our trip one extra night and we booked a reservation without knowing much about this restaurant. Everyone’s meals were cooked to perfection and were delicious. My mother even said the paella was better than hers and that’s hard to beat. I can’t wait for my next trip to NY to come back here again!
The octopus was deliciousThe pork is good but not amazingService is excellent with a smile and good vibes place
This was the best Cuban food my wife and I ever had. The mojitos, appetizer, entrees, coffee, dessert, and service were all fantastic!
Wasn’t sure the type of cuisine since they have a lot of items on the menu from all different cuisines. The tuna tartare was fresh and nicely balanced. The beef empanada wasn’t my jam. Too spicy and it overpowered the meaty flavor of the beef. The beet salad with salmon was a crowd favorite in the group. The chopped salad was just ok. The menu is all over but everything was pretty good. I would come back but not running here.
Best flan Ive ever had, no exaggeration. Must return! Great cocktails too!
What a lovely little spot! We were looking everywhere for a place to eat on a busy Thursday night and we were so happy that we could get in here. Everything was amazing—I had the red sangria and the filet medallions, and others at our table had the lavender martini and it was fantastic. Wonderful atmosphere and service—would absolutely come back next time I’m in the city!
Havana NY continues to be a favorite for me to feel good about a Cuban experience around midtown. Service is always authentic and fun with a bit of Latino communication flare. There is both an upstairs and downstairs bar experience. Danny, at the walk in bar, gives you a very welcome feeling.
Good food great serviceNothing special but really priceyPlate was way bigger than I thought
This is an amazing place with amazing food. The atmosphere will trick you into thinking you are someplace tropical- and the food is exquisite. My waiter recommended shrimp tacos which were delectable with the plantain chips. The cafe con leche was strong and delicious too!
Bistro38 in New York City has great food, great service and a perfect atmosphere for a nice, quiet evening out.
Very good Latin inspired dishes, but can easily be a pricey place if ordering more than an entree as most are in the $30 range themselves. Everything looked and tasted great. Food came out faster than I expected which was nice.
Excellent and authentic Cuban food. Service was bit slow side but the food made up for it.
We walked by BIstro 38 on our way to another restaurant that didnt honor our reservation , so really liking the vibe when we passed by it we decided to come back and have dinner there and we do not regret it one bit. The music was good , the service great , the food was amazing the Cola & Rioja Braised Boneless Beef Short-Rib was to die for and my wife took the fish of the day and it was very good also. The owners are there on location and they make sure that your evening goes well which was pretty much appreciated. Thank you Daniel , Diana and the Uncle we had a wonderful evening with you guys !!
So damn good!! Was such a surprise, because it was so close to our hotel but it was the best meal we had in NYC.
This little hidden gem in midtown is fantastic. Sat at the bar for lunch the food came out quickly and was super delicious. Linda the bartender gave amazing service. The cocktails were super yummy. The manager Diane was very pleasant and friendly. Highly recommend this place.
Good price for the atmosphere and service. Good food, too. Been here several times so as many other places in Manhattan, this place can be pretty crowded especially at the rush hours for dinner and drinking time 😉. I would definitely visit again when I am back in town. I love how thoughtful the restaurant is with its food. I love the mussels! ☺️
The perfect atmosphere when celebrating a special event. The food was amazing and authentic.
Order the ceviche if you like seafood, its so good! Thank me later.
Amazing food and great drinks. Liked the pork special. Tender and tasted good with the rice.Tried the flank steak which I think was the best thing in the menu. The rice and beans were solid. In terms of drinks, you cant go wrong with any of the cocktails. Great staff service.
Fantastic Happy Hour menu of great drinks and really good appetizers. The bar service was excellent but the table service, while friendly, was focused on making as few trips to the table as possible. If you didnt think of everything you wanted the moment you sat down you had to wait a very long time to see the waiter again. Menu offers many authentic Cuban favorites but many items within a category (pork, chicken, etc. ) are similar and made with only slightly different preparations. The dinner plate was crowded with fillers and had only small portions of the main ingredient. Many of the flavors tasted homogenized. Super fun place with some good and some not so good food, drinks and service .
I had a great experience here. Ordered the short rib snd it was fantastic. Her? Not so much. She got the Salmon croquets. Not great. It was busy and we had somewhere to be so we ate at the bar. The bartender was friendly and quick with our order.
It was a nice place, very clean. The portions were good for their value. We ordered the Beef empanadas, guacamole (which is a large amount), sweet plantains and the roasted pork. All was very good. However we ordered the tress leches cake and it was not good at all.Its a great place to go with a date, friends or business.I personally would not take children here.
Best flavors and real dinning experience near Bryan Park! Try guacamole, seafood risotto paella or grilled chicken!! All taste great! Go ahead with natural juices or try best mango margarita! Dont forget trying delicious desserts such as flan or caramel churros! Your guaranteed best service is here!
The good: the service deserves 5 stars. The service was WAY above average. I cant fault them for their kindness and helpfulness. The not so good: the food was so-so. The empanadas we had as appetizers were about as good as I might have gotten out of the frozen section of the grocery store. The chicken dish we got was supposed to have been adobo seasoned, but though it was very tender and juicy, it basically had no flavor at all. The black beans and sweet plantains were boring. We finally asked for a variety of sauces, which the helpful waiter provided ASAP. Those made the foods more palatable, but for the price we paid, it wasnt worth it.
Dined here to celebrate a friends birthday. Food and drinks were good. Staff was also nice enough to bring my friend a dessert with a candle and sang happy birthday. My issue is that the wait staff can be very intrusive. They constantly interrupted us for whatever reason. Our waitress actually pulled the paper menu from underneath my plate as I was eating saying that were not supposed to eat over the menus😳. Thats fine but she shouldve collected the menus after we ordered. Also, wouldve it have been too much trouble for her to simply ask for our menus???🤔 I dont understand restaurants that keep paper menus. Theyre supposed to be disposable anyway. If a restaurant is too cheap to print more menus then just utilize QR codes that customers can scan and view menus on their smartphone.
Great spot- loved it so much I came back the next night. Salmon was great and so was the paella! Also def get the sangrias here!
Food, cocktails and service were amazing. Also had beef empanadas that were so yummy, we ended up ordering them twice! We never had to struggle to get anyones attention and the staff was so very attentive!
Just had a wonderful experience at Bistro 38! Oliver, our server, was welcoming and knowledgeable. The food was excellent, and the whole restaurant had a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. We’ll be back!
Great place for a mellow dinner for 2 , like a date or a conversation over dinner. The food was great and everything was delicious. Will highly recommend.. 👍👍👍
-⭐️I recently visited bstro 38, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The food was not only disappointing in taste but also overpriced for the quality offered. To make matters worse, I found a hair in my dish, which was quite off-putting.Additionally, there was an unpleasant smell lingering in the restaurant, making the dining experience uncomfortable. The service was also lacking; the waiter was nowhere to be found when needed, and to top it all off, I was given the wrong bill—meant for the table next to me. This level of unprofessionalism was unexpected and disappointing. Its unfortunate because I had high hopes for this place, but based on my visit, I cannot recommend it.
Good empanada, platanes, and fish tacos. Chicken a la plancha was basic.
Horrible service, horrible food. First and last time. Never been to a Cuban spot that served bland authentic food. Calamari didnt suffer from blandness, it was extremely salty. My first bite caused me to choke.Drinks were bad as well.Requested our check, it took 30 minutes to receive it and 10 minutes for them to figure out how to charge 3 credit cards. Awful.
Nice little cozy spot. Service was great and the food was good as well.
I stopped in with a friend for a quick bite and we only had two dishes so I dont have much to report, but I will go back again! The Fried Calamari and the Cuban Salad (I had it with shrimp) were both so fresh and delicious. Our waiter was terrific.Looking forward to more Cuban food!
Sigh. This restaurant was a letdown. Sophie’s Cuban, nearby is half the price and twice as good. The service wasn’t great, and none of the food was great except the yellow rice. The ropa vieja was a little stringy and salty, the salmon was way overcooked, and the beans weren’t very flavorful. The tostones were dry and overly starchy. The other issue was the ambiance. We sat outside, and the street was noisy with cars flying past, pedestrians weaving in and out, and it smelled like exhaust and urine. It was a stressful rather than relaxing place to spend time. I wouldn’t go back.
Tons of allergy friendly options. We tried just about one of everything. Delicious! Great ambiance and wait staff. The drinks are phenomenal. Had one of each of those too😀 will definitely revisit the next time were in NYC.
Fantastic location, great service and delicious food. The menu offers authentic flavours from appetizers to desserts. Prices are on the high side but quality is there. The cocktails selection is great, wine selection ok and expensive.Love the salsa classics music selection playing in the background.
Drinks were good and so was the food but at those prices there should really have been more on the plate. I could have gotten similar food from my local restaurant and at cheaper prices. The setting was nice and the staff was attentive, so I imagine thats what brought the price up so high. For what the bill was I expected a more bang for my buck.
Great place for dinner. Laura V was a great server. Friendly professional and took time to explain items on menu. Food is delicious. Dined outside in a charming set up. Had fish tacos, yellow rice bowl with shrimp and an assortment of broccoli avocado plantains and yucca. Flan to finish off the meal.
Love this place. Wait service is attentive to diners and their needs. Very energetic and willing to offer suggestions.
This is by far my favorite Cuban place in the city. Refreshing cocktails, nice portions and tasty apps, and the most pleasing pork osso buco around. Im so glad this place not only survived through COVID but has since thrived!
Very beautiful place, good food and service. Great ambiance.
Mojito was delicious with fresh mint taste . The white sangria was sweet and tasty too (I wouldnt recommend the red sangria though ) The fish of the day with yellow rice and beans was tasty but ask for it without that salsa type vinaigrette topping they put on it , it didnt need it . The Shrimp appetizer should have more bread with it. But the flan dessert was delicious. Get it. Outdoor seating was breezy and nice on a beautiful Spring night .
We went there after a play, Pros: no wait to be seated, clean space, attentive staff and the coconut margarita is great. Cons: Food . If u are looking for an authentic Hispanic meal this is a watered down version. The black beans were blandest Ive ever tasted, the yellow rice actually tasted funny to me...pork dish I had actually had a teriyaki flavor to me. Not what I expected. I would not go back .
Made a 9PM dinner reservation at Havana on 7/14. We needed to extend to 9:15 and they were accommodating. I was with my mother and the food was really good. Cocktails were a bit pricey but thats NYC for you. We really enjoyed the meal. I had a chicken dish and my mother had the oxtail. Portion was right and meats well seasoned. It was my birthday weekend and our waiter decided it was a great time to perform a rendition of happy birthday We had a great time and would definitely go back and recommend.
Went there with my friend last week. Amazing place! The atmosphere, the cuisine and the cocktails make it a real Caribbean jewel! The atmosphere was pretty good and my friend loved the paintings of dancing people on the walls. She is a Rumba enthusiast and she kept telling me about what are those people dancing. The meals are authentic. We had sabores cubanos – a mixed dish with a lot of tasty stuff. I had some beef with olives, raisins and a fried egg (a weird combo, but it was delicious!).
We had a paella-style risotto and fried chicken with rice at Havana NY.I liked the risotto, but I found the fried chicken a bit average. It was good enough, but it wasnt special enough to go back. However, their cocktails are very delicious. Overall, it was a pleasant experience.
Such an AMAZING restaurant with the best entrées & drinks ! Servers were very knowledgeable, friendly & attentive!! Can’t wait to come back!
Ive been to Havana NY multiple times. I always receive great service and delicious meals. I went for Fathers Day with 10 of my family members. They were all stuffed and smiling at the end of the evening. Highly recommend. See you soon :)
Bad food, nice enough staff but slow to get drinks etc.
The food was great and the service was amazing. Only downside would be serving sizes, a little on the small side, but nothing wrong with knowing for next time 😊. We started off with the croquetas de jamón y pollo, and tried a few of the drinks. All the drinks were delicious, especially the watermelon juice drink. We ordered the arroz con pollo y chorizo, the ropa vieja, among other things and all were very ornate presentations. We finished with the churros, and as a family with a sweet tooth we appreciated that they used chocolate syrup to dip. Coffee was amazing too. Would definitely stop by again for dessert or for apps and drinks. Very accommodating host and staff!
Excellent food and loved the cozy vibe of the place. The fish was lovely, and we had a great time here. Make a reservation if youre a group. We were about 10, and had some trouble finding tables together. Recommended for their service and food both
Stumbled into this jewel while visiting New York. I had the calamari with a presidential beer and a Cubano. They were both as good as expected in presentation and taste. The staff was especially gracious and on point. They answered almost too many questions (a good thing) and happily retrieved many different condiments to compliment the meal. Definitely recommend!
Service and Food was fabulous highly recommended. You will enjoy every minute your there!
Friendly staff and the food was great. Enjoyed my experience there!
Update: we went to Havana NY. I am unclear why the place is now Bstro 38 (not a typo - google keeps giving me a Thai place called Bistro 38). We did not go to Bstro 38.====•••Great place! I had a beet salad and the pork Osso Buco and they were fabulous. The pork just fell off the bone and it was all meat. And of course the Mojito was very well made. Very attentive service and upscale decor. Definitely a new go-to place, especially as it is just half a block detour on the walk from the Path station up to Broadway shows
The Food was good, the music was even better. With the doors open you get that breeze of fresh air while sitting inside at the bar having your favorite drink enjoying a Cuban dish.Whats better than that on a summer afternoon.
We stumbled upon this restaurant completely at random while looking for a place that was still open around 9pm. What a tasty find! The arroz con pollo y chorizo is fantastic and the flan was superb. Lovely and comfortable atmosphere and great service. I will definitely be back!
Went here to celebrate one of my choir members birthday. It looks like Sat evening is crowded but we had reservations. We had to wait for all of guests to arrive before being seated so we went upstairs to the bar. I ordered a Coquito de Havana which was soooooo good.. We were then seated and it seemed like it took forever for the food to come (probably because all were hungry) but when it did come the food was hot, fresh and delicious. For desert I had the flan which was delicious as well. The texture and the sweetness was just right. I was, however, disappointed with the portion( couldve been bigger) but, still recommend it anyway. Overall we all had a wonderful time and left with our bellies full.
Service was great and friendly. Margaritas tasted good. I had the filet it lacked some spices, but was cooked wonderfully. Hubs had the paella, he said it was different from what hes used to, but was still good. Homemade Macaroons were a freebie at the end.
Had a great margarita, and our server was quick and attentive. The food was a letdown - half thawed peas and warmish rubbery chicken, two things that are super simple to do right quickly. Its a shame because this ruined the overall experience of the meal.
It was okay. Nice place. Very friendly and good drinks. I asked if their roast chicken was the same as pollo asada and got an affirmative response. It was not. My server apparently did not know when they answered. Pollo asada is very juicy and flavorful. Their pollo dish was dry and flavorless with excess garlic sauce on the side to cover that up. Disappointed.
Amazing restaurant. Beautiful decor. Food is delicious. Drinks are slightly pricey $14-$16, but are crafted with fresh ingredients. Music playlist was great. Ordered the Cuban sliders, shrimp plantain bowl, side of their garlic sauce. OMG. Would 100% recommend this place.
Great atmosphere and fantastic service from a really friendly and happy crew of employees. The food was good. I was born in Miami, and it was not as good as the best Miami Cuban food, but it was definitely a good dinner. Prices are high but not unusually so for the area.
Wow, what an amazing experience. Walking thru the city and decided to stop by. From the minute we walked in the service was great. Mojitos were authentic and amazing, the food was outstanding. Our waiters were very attentive and did not feel rushed considering a restaurant in the heart of the city.. What else can you ask for!
Great food but horrible service. Waiter never came back to check on our appetizer or offer us more water. Our dinner took over an hour to come out and caused us to miss our train home. Another waiter got our check for us when we asked. We literally were not spoken to by our waiter since he took the order. We will not be back. There are enough great restaurants on NYC that have much better service.
Best of the best is here!Absolutely love this place. The food is delicious. The service is fast. The crew is so kind and super sweet. The atmosphere is so amazing. The drinks are just wow. I have never been disappointed here! Highly recommended.
Didnt have a reservation but they were able to accommodate the 3 of us (She, He and a local Cousin). We had empanadas, calamari, rice bowl, Ropa Vieja and House Salad with steak. House salad with steak was so-so. Wouldnt recommend for a meal. However, everything else was truly awesome!Only real negative was the red sangria. We had a pitcher and it was really weak so we ordered a double shot of Grand Marnier, dumped it in the pitcher and the sangria was much improved!Everything was so good she ordered delivery to our hotel the next night. Slight hiccup with the website minimum order amount. The General Manager, didnt catch her name, was super nice and worked it out. (Big thanks!) Note: online orders FOR DELIVERY have a minimum order requirement of $100Highly recommend and we will be back!
Amazing food and the staff were phenomenal. Diana was able to accommodate our large group last minute and created an amazing experience for us all. Very much a place you should visit when in NYC.
Overpriced for what it offers. The mojitos were a bit watered down, and the dishes -a eclectic blend of Spanish, Cuban and American food were generous but not especially tasty. The service is attentive but unable to split the bill if the party is greater than four (even if the restaurant is empty and they are not really busy). The decoration and the music are nice.
I ordered catering for a small group of people for a meeting for the first time from this place. Cathy, the lady who took the order was extremely rude to start off with. Secondly, for the money you pay the food was lacking both in flavor and portion. The rice should definitely be included with your order at the price they advertise. After this experience, I will not be ordering from here again, in NYC there are a lot better choices with much better customer service.
Entrees where disappointing. Ordered the pollo a la plancha and it was very flat in flavor. Was expecting a full chicken breast and received 2 flat grilled cutlets. The empanadas and croquetas where great. I’m guessing because we ordered towards the end of the night the chefs missed out on a little love with the seasoning I would give them a try again based on the apps and dessert!
This place was awesome. My sister and I were trying to find a restaurant.. we even used Google Maps but couldnt find any... We walked down a street to try to get more restaurants available. Havana NY didnt show up on Maps for us but we said and thought ok... Lets go! Best decision. The food was awesome!, Our server Daniel was very accommodating and kind. Very friendly and helpful. It was my birthday and i enjoyedI enjoyed every moment of it!
Havana *nails it* if you are craving Latin-inspired comforting dishes! Everything was delicious. If I could change anything, it would just be to use riper plantains for the maduros. Drinks were tasty as well.
We came here for an after work happy hour and had a great time. The drinks were very good as well as the food.I highly recommend the guacamole. We kept ordering more because of how delicious it was!
Nice place. However, if you want flavorful authentic Cuban, save your money. Service was good, seemed like a good place to have a drink, food was disappointing and on the expensive side for ultimately flavorless food. We ordered beef empanadas, rellenos (small fried plantain bowls stuffed with 1ea. shrimp, shredded skirt steak and pork) for appetizers; entrees were chimichurri skirt steak, ropa vieja and arroz con camarones. All of it was Meh, at best. Really wanted it to be a good find, instead we walked out feeling like we just wasted $160.😕
Went here with the Mrs. Last night and had one of the best meals in NYC ever. Surf and turf and fish was on point. Staff, service & Manager (Javier) all professionals. Highly recommend. We will be back.
Amazing food. Best Piña Colada and Sterling, our bartender, kicked it out of the park.We were a large group for a last minute dinner and they opened up a section just to accommodate us.Highly recommended!
Food and service was outstanding. Friendly staff, and the management goes above and beyond. Happy to recommend to anyone!
I frequent this place fairly often as it is a reliable dining option close to our office. While the cocktails are excellent, and the food tasty, the service can be hit and miss. If you are looking for the best cocktail, order the mojito.
Great meal and excellent service
This place was just flawless. The waiters were very friendly (and yes, were talking about NYC!) The drinks were on point, the environment was very chic but simple, and the food absolutely delicious. However, what made the experience unique was being able to meet and shoot the breeze with Paul ( 2nd generation owner of the place) and Abe, our host, who is Iranian and work for the restuarant for the past 27 years-- the man loves New York City with so much passion.Thank you Havana NY for the great overall experience. Ill surely be back.
OMG is the best review I can think of.Besides the warm hospitality and great atmosphere, the food was out of this world.4 of us cleaned our plates on every course.Pork shank, lamb chops, paella all wonderful. Also the perfect location for commuters. Centered walking distance between Grand Central and Penn Station. Go go go!
It was our 19th wedding anniversary, booked through a digital reservation and requested Rum and Coke ( Cuba Libre) at the table when we sat.A short time after we were seated it showed up A+ in my book. The calamari we ordered was not good (dont order) but the steak w/white rice and black beans was great.
Really fast service, and a low key atmosphere.
Saw this place walking by. A couple saw us checking out the menu on the sidewalk. They said, dont worry, it is great. They didnt lie. The cuban sandwiches were perfect, the garlic shrimp and ripe plantains were like candy and the sangria was perfect for washing it down. Yum.
Food was mediocre not worth the price. The service was fast and friendly
Extraordinary food and drinks. I highly recommend this place
Heaven- food and service do not get better! I ordered the Filete Brazino & I have never been so satisfied from fish and potatoes. At least 3-5 people saw to my every want. I enjoyed the hospitality and had an amazing experience at nearly every level.
Such an amazing place! As a picky eater from the west coast I loved their food so much! They had authentic food and the staff was very informative and friendly. Will definitely stop by this place again on my next new york trip!
Came here after my business meetings in NY. I’m Cuban so I’m very picky about Cuban restaurants. This place is as authentic as it gets! My friend orders the arroz con pollo which was BEYOND amazing. The atmosphere was great and music was good. I ordered the lechon, white rice and beans also amazing. The drinks were great and tasty. The bartender was so sweet! Wish I could remember her name I just know she has black hair, colored eyes and a cute accent. I’ll be back in a couple weeks when I’m back in NYC.
Good fish tacos, steak in chimchurri sauce, and guacamole bowl.Didnt like sangria, too sour. All a bit overpriced, especially cocktails $17 each.
The service was excellent. What a great little find and close enough to grab dinner before a show. Great happy hour atmosphere as we were there on a Friday. Lamb chops as an appetizer were very good and the burratta. Filet mignon could have been a bit more tender but well priced. Overall a definite go back and recommend.
Came here for my formal wedding dinner. The server ignored us for the majority of the night only had drinks refilled twice. Very despondent and when wed try to get his attention he ignored us. Truly disappointed. He must have figured since tip was included for larger parties he wouldnt have to put any effort. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Your establishment only got 2 stars because of the food.
I stopped in Havana NY after wandering around the city for a bit. Glancing at the menu I found a couple of dishes that sounded delicious and after talking with my server we narrowed that down to one, Ropa Vieja. I also ordered a side of Tostones to round out my meal. Both arrived quickly and exceeded expectations. The flavor of the ropa vieja was excellent. The tostones were hot and lightly seasoned, and a great compliment to the flavors in my meal.In the mood for Cuban fare, or a great meal in general? Then this is place, and it will be on my list of must visits next time Im in the city.
Tasty Cuban. Cheery service. Seating upstairs and downstairs so plenty of room. The guac was fresh.
Nummy mushroom risotto. Nice staff. Yummy lavender martini.
Large portions. Limited menu. Limited appetizers. Limited beer selection. Lots of liquor choices. A bit small and you cannot get seated until all guests arrive. More like Cuban fusion than actual Cuban cuisine.
Havana NY is so much better than restaurants that have part of their name. My experience in those other restaurants is the food has no flavor or taste. Havana NYs food smelled really good was presented very well and tasted good. We were a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed the food they ordered and even had dessert. I had no room. Hubby had the broiled pork chops with moro rice and he loved it. I had the oxtails, yellow rice and red beans; it was pretty tasty. My cousin had the skirt steak with white rice & black beans; he loved it, his wife had chicken and shrimp with yellow rice and black beans. She thought the food was very tasty. They said they had Cuban food the day before and this food was way more delicious compared to that food. There was another couple where the wife had the chicken soup which she said was delicious then I think the couple split a beef dish. We would definitely go back to enjoy other items on the menu. The guacamole with plantain chips was very good as well especially since there was no cilantro in it.😝😝😝😝😝😝
Although limited food selection. Seating on main level was quick. Drinks were decent. Food was good. Service was fast to get you up and out...not friendly enough for girls night out type of gathering
Loved the lamb ragu. The waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere was very nice.
Look I’m a big dude so obviously food is important. Havana in New York is amazing. From the moment we arrived all safety measures were in place , she kindly ask to take our temperature, once she did that , we were immediately seated. Then came Lina, what an amazing energetic host and server, she made our fist impression feel like she new us for years. Took our drink order, we then at the same time placed our food order. Never felt rushed, drinks came out first, oh and by the way , she already had gotten us water without us asking, very impressive.to make a long story short, when in New York, stop in and have an amazing Cuban sandwich, or a churassco al la parilla. And then order a Gran boracho. Definitely will be on my must visit when I’m in town.
Excellent food and service! Very festive inside and welcoming. Our server, Sayette, was fantastic giving us recommendations when we asked. Chicken Marsala was delish. Don’t leave without eating the cheesecake!
The food was delicious! I had the ropa vieja (shredded beef in sauce) with yellow rice and beans. Everything was cooked to perfection. I also had some of my friends food, namely the chicharrón de pollo (breaded fried chicken) and maduros (sweet plantains). I would recommend this to people looking for authentic Caribbean food. It was pretty pricey though, as our meal for 3 without drinks came to just over $100.
Beautiful restaurant with the food to match! We stopped in for lunch and were quite impressed.
Shrimp tacos were incredible! I had the jalapeño strawberry margarita which was good but it was very light on the alcohol, which is disappointing for a $16 cocktail. The patio seating is beautiful. Overall a nice place for a relaxed meal.
Havana was fantastic. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. We got a couple apps and a Cubano for lunch and everything was delicious. The mojito was smooth and well balanced.
Abus, the owner has created the best Cuban restaurant in NYC. This place is where Cubans go to eatBeautiful, romantic, and the soul of Cuba await you.The food is as good as it gets. From traditional dishes to the chefs creations.
Rabo ( oxtails ) with yellow rice and beans . Not spicy but has a wonderful kick .
The experience was unique, the customer service, always attentive to everything.
My first time at Havana NY. My sister thought she had made reservations at another Havana location she had visited before and this was not that place. Anyhoo, we entered and this restaurant was beautiful. The 1st floor had a long bar and the 2nd floor (where we were escorted for dinner) and the entire restaurant was BEAUTIFUL! Dark wood, gorgeous,.colorful art on the walls.. even the ladies room was beautiful ☺ Our server was friendly, funny and recommended delicious food. When my dessert came out, it wasnt what I ordered..the manager brought out the correct dessert (flan) and insisted we keep the incorrect one (which we could not!) Our experience was PHENOMENAL and worth every cent spent. We will return.
Not many IPAs to choose from (Lagunitas), but the food and service were great.
Your New staff and management is horrible! My family and I made reservations for valentine’s day dinner. All 5 of us. My reservation asked for seating preferences. I requested a booth. When we got there you 2 hostess asked our names however walked away while we were still talking. Then tells us no booths are available. They proceeded to take us to a table seated by the kitchen and bathroom. I asked to speak to the manager, manager tells us booths are only for couples and there’s nothing she could do for us. It the only table she can give is, the restaurant wasn’t that busy. With feeling uncomfortable with the treatment between the hostess and manager. We choose to leave and the manager was like “BYE”! We are a family that live in queens that come to your restaurant frequently. We previously wrote wonderful reviews. We left and had dinner @DON COQUI in astoria queens. To the owner, if you continue with this agressive and non caring staff get ready to lose a lot of money. PEOPLE DON’T CHOOSE TO SPEND MONEY AND DINE IN PLACES TO BE DISRESPECTED! Your service is disgusting and we will not be returning.
My wife and I were in the mood for Spanish food and found Havana NY by doing a search on the Internet. We have dined at places such as Victors Cafe, Calle Dao, La Caridad 78, Guantanamera, and Tinas. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted by the hostess and seated within minutes. The atmosphere was romantic with a tropical flair. Our server, Pablo, was very polite and answered all of our questions. We both ordered pina coladas and the beef empanadas as an appetizer. The drinks were delicious and strong. My wife ordered the mojo marinated slow roasted pulled pork with black beans and yellow rice and I had the special, which was the pork shank with black beans and yellow rice . The food was absolutely delicious! This is our new go to restaurant whenever we are in the mood for Cuban cuisine.
Flavor for the chicken was pretty bad....bland, dry, and pretty hard to chew..and for the cost and value, that is horrible. Please make an effort to serve fresh seasoned fried chicken rather than heat whst lookedcto be older chicken
Delicious food and fantastic service. After walking several blocks to find a restaurant with a bar that was actually open, we found this place and I am so glad we did. Thanks for the great experience!!
Nice cozy place for an inexpensive date night or just a nice place to eat. Mondays were half off wine when we went in 2019. A little of a late review but we enjoyed it a lot.
Had dinner indoors. Very tasty elaborate menu. Comfortable setting and very friendly wait staff and management. Full bar. They also provide outdoor seating.
Good food, good time. Definitely would go back here
This is the place to eat great Cuban food. It is where new Yorkers eat. Sterling wss amazing waiter. The owner was so hospitable . Nice Cuban music playing. Highly recommended.
What a wonderful experience and Awsome food one of my favorite places in Nyc
Our bartender was very friendly! The food we ordered for dinner (Branzino and beet salad) was fabulous and exceeded our expectations. The manager, Diana, was very personable and made us feel right at home. So much so, we came back again the next day for lunch!
Service was great, food was good, I will admit I never had Cuban before and cant really compare but it was fresh, tasty, well displayed and plenty.
Prompt service, the servers were polite, and the food was excellent. The environment (people and music) were a perfect balance of silence and noisy. Love the paintings and traditional music.
The food was amazing, fresh and just taste bud explosion. You must eat the Churros and Chocolate for dessert. And if Oliver R. Is your waiter you will not be disappointed.
Super service and they make a mean Mojito! Love the bean soup!
Service started good but because we had kids with us it turned slow. Everyone liked their food they had but my chicken we dry and the mango sauce was flavorless. 50/50 chance.
Fast and quick service only reason I dont give it 5 stars is my waiter was just average had to ask for specifically for a mojito after I got my food. Just assumed all I wanted was water.
Worst restaurant.experience for at least a couple of years... void food that caused high stomach pain and diarrhea within 20 minutes to 2 of my daughters. Expensive for a cheap food and I just see on the web prices are significantly lower than on the physical menu. Avoid this as much as you can..
The scallops with saffron risotto was delicious. Good service, very tasty off the beaten path menu options, and interesting cocktails.
Beautiful experience. Staff as so friendly and welcoming. A man who wore all black who seemed to be the manager was so attentive and had a great conversation with us! Would definitely recommend.!
Sampler appetizer is big enough for four people to share and delicious. Drinks are on weak side. Hence the once star less. Rest are amazing!
I enjoyed my time here. The meal was good, although I am not a fan of black beans. That is why I did not give the full 5 stars.
Great authentic Cuban food in a cool atmosphere
Generous portions, excellent service, had their special of tostones filled with ropa vieja sitting on guacamole with cheese on top as an appetizer and white rice and red beans (favorite) with masitas de cerdo. FINALLY SOME DELICIOUS CARIBBEAN CUISINE! And I was starved for a good mojito after growing up in PR, and after trying several places out of state this place satisfied my thirst for the perfect classic mojito chock full of fresh mint, lime, and even a stick of sugar cane!
Delicious Cuban classics. Fresh and well prepared. Very clean restaurant. Happy hour from 4. Thank you!
Its a good Spanish restaurant with good atmosphere and delicious food.
As a Cuban, definitely not a cuban restaurant change name please how embarrassing for others not to experience the real Cuban flavor you want real Cuban food go to Miami!
Good experience. Delicious food, both dinner and dessert, good steak and sea-brass. Very service minded waiters. Enjoyed it.
Great food and ambiance. Little pricey and dishes are smaller. Would still come back because flavoring was good!
Dinner waa was fantastic. Wait staff is excellent.
I love this authentic cuban restaurant, its truly in my opinion, one of the best in the city. Each time I go here, i am impressed by the quality of the food and how consistently good it is.
Great food, however as other reviews state, it was an expensive meal for two. I would go again though.
We got drinks here and the music was great. The bartenders were friendly and the bathrooms (and entire premises) were so clean and well kept.
Fantastic food and drinks. Can be great for date night or small family get togethers
Linette was our waitress and she was PHENOMENAL. She is a treasure! The food was delicious and the outdoor seating was very nice.
Cuban and margaritas are solid. I came in for lunch on a Tuesday while visiting the city and it filled up quickly. Great service, very charming and pleasant for lunch.
Stopped by Saturday afternoon for a mojito and it did not disappoint. Friendly staff and a delicious drink, what more could you ask for?
Whenever Im in New York and I feel like eating delicious grilled skirt steak, this is the BEST place to go to. Dont confuse this with Havana Central. Theres no other place in the whole world that can serve grilled skirt steak like Havana NY simply because of its utterly delicious Chimichurri sauce. Ive been around several Cuban resto in, on or around New York and other places but theres no other restaurants that serve Chimichurri sauce like they do but (I was able to figure out their chimichurri recipe so Im all good *wink*). This place is awesome! Dont miss it when in NY!
Amazing food. Exceptional customer service
The food was great and the drink was refreshing. The staff friendly and the environment peaceful and cozy. What else does one want?
The place is very nice. The food was delicious and the staff was very attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant. We went for a late lunch.
Loved it great decor. Great music and scenery. Love the top floor. Great drinks too. Needs more vegetarian entrees though.
Nice place, good food. Will return.
Food was great and filling mojitos are amazing, the tres leche cake was soooo yummy. We left full and satisfied.
Great food love going here. 3 on atmosphere is solely based on if you cant sit inside. Inside is a 5.
Conscientious servers went above and beyond with dietary requests. Wonderfyl fresh Mahi Mahi, prepared well seasoned and delicious. Would have wanted two more lamb chops for appetizers!!
