What a lovely place! Open dining room with a bar and an open kitchen. No kitchen smells and smoke. The service is outstanding from the hostess, to the sommelier, our waitress (you can’t even call it that more like the person that makes sure you have a great evening) and other staff that help make our visit pleasant. We ate the pre theater meal and there is something for every taste. Everyone knew I have food allergies and paid attention to avoid those foods.A most delicious three course meal that left nothing to be desired. We’ll done!

Easily one of the most enjoyable dining experiences in the city, warm and buzzing atmosphere with above and beyond staff. A more casual take compared to Daniel, but no sacrifice at all in quality and delivery of creative and delicious food. Very impressed on how composed each dish was despite seeming simple by description! Desserts were excellent and highly unique. Would recommend to anyone looking for an upscale yet down to earth meal.

While visiting in NYC, I went in to Boulud Sud after being very disappointed with my hotel restaurant. I was greeted graciously and even though I complained that it was too warm in the ‘outside area’ they quickly moved me inside, continuing to be friendly and accommodating. All wait stuff were professional and polite throughout the evening. I was served an exceptional Manhattan cocktail. I started with the beautiful green salad with pears, walnuts and blue cheese, served with fresh French bread. Greens were fresh and the dressing was perfect; light, tart and just the right amount. I continued with a charcuterie platter which is their specialty, with dry salami, pate, ham and various delicious tidbits. Everything was excellent. A wonderful country style bread was served with the charcuterie platter. Ambiance was lovely, tasteful, with light jazz that was not too loud. Overall experience was outstanding.

I was here with a friend during restaurant week on Jan 27th 2022This was our first time to visit Boulud Sud. We love it!Both of us believe that we will come back someday for sure. The service was just as good as the taste of the food, and the ambiance of the restaurant was fabulous. What I ordered was lamb, but sorry I forgot the name. Though I still remember how it tasted like. It was tender and had absolutely no gamy flavor at all. Delicious! My friend ordered CHERMOULA GRILLED MEDITERRANEAN SEA BASS. It was so tasty as well.Dessert was the chocolate one. No doubt, it was sweet enough not too much. Was great.Meanwhile, the bread they provided as a starter was warm at the right temperature and soft as well.Have to say both the waiter and waitress who helped our table were very patience and so professional. We love them!Thank you so much for those who read until here. Hope this review can help you guys.Enjoy~~~

I really enjoyed my meal here. The service was outstanding and the food was top notch. I had the shrimp appetizer, the shrimp were not to overcooked as they frequently are in this type of dish because of the heated oil. I had the Mediterranean sea bass which was outstanding! Extremely tasty well put together dish. Lastly I had the anise cream dessert which I really enjoyed but probably wouldnt get again. There were some other very tasty sounding options. Unfortunately I cant eat grapefruit right now because the grapefruit one looked the best! I would highly recommend this place.

Had an absolutely amazing experience dining here. We chose the restaurant week menu. 3-course meal with a good selection for each of the course, some with an extra few bucks. We had the lamb and sea bass for the main course and they were so delicious. I honestly think it’s the best sea bass dish I’ve tasted in a long time. With the restaurant week menu, there is also a sommelier’s pick wine for 39 dollars a bottle. The white wine is quite pleasant. The servers are very attentive and the ambience is lovely.I’ve done restaurant week for a handful of times and this is easily one of best.

We were looking forward to dining here. When we arrive, we were pleasantly greeted, which we thought would be the start of a great night. It went downhill from there. Wait staff was rude and only provided us with the restaurant week menu when other diners were provided both the restaurant week and regular menus. Our wine glasses were almost immediately removed from our table. Only when I asked for the wine list that they left a glass for me. Wait staff asked if I wanted another bottle of water, which I responded no. He went ahead and opened another bottle and poured. I had to tell this wait staff that I didnt order another bottle of water but another glass of coke. When our food came, the wait staff werent able to tell us clearly what our dishes were. I dont know what was going on in the kitchen, but we waited at least 30 minutes between courses. It was ridiculous. Two of my nieces had to leave before dessert arrived because they had work to do for the next day and never expected that dinner would take so long. The kitchen really needs to get their act together and speed up the service. I eat here almost every single weekend. The worst the food has ever been is Eh, average and I think thats usually just when theyve got like ten thousand deliveries and theres not a whole lot they can do about that, it kind of just is what it is. 98% of the time the food is SO GOOD. The portions seem to be larger when you eat in the restaurant, but theyre not stingy ever by any means. I always have leftovers. The French fries are my favorite in the neighborhood, definitely order the hummus, and obviously the chicken gyro is delicious. I also regularly get the falafel and the vegetable platter - both are excellent. Later I tried to get his attention while he was at the adjourning table, and he wouldnt turn around. I hadnt been nasty to him and cant understand why he didnt try to give us good service. After dinner he brought two complimentary desserts, which I really didnt want, so I sent one back. Food was pretty good, though I found desserts fussy and overcomplicated (and hard to know what youre ordering off the desert menu, not sure what language its in).For an upscale place the service was weak. Was served regular coffee instead of decaf, and had to ask multiple times for refill. Same with the water. And my table was too close to the neighboring table, which was awkward during the meal and even worse when I had to get up and felt like my butt was basically on their food.Personally, would not choose to go back here, at least not during a busy brunch service. Im not a person who is easily impressed by gimmicks and tricks,* but the bartender at Boulud Sud got me with the Spiked Apple. First of all, its a single malt cocktail that is subtle and delicious. That in itself is a feat.** But even more astonishing is that they go to the trouble of making an APPLE out of ICE, complete with a cinnamon stick stem, and using it as a glass within your glass for your cocktail. A more perfect fall cocktail, I dont think there is.And if single malts scare you, try the From the Field (Honey Comb and Lavender Infused Plymouth Gin, Lemon).I found the food to be a bit less consistent than the cocktails, but there are certainly high points. The charred squid stuffed with chorizo was a meager portion, but excellent; the lamb loin was beautifully cooked and as tender as can be; the Iberico ham predictably melts until your mouth is weeping with porky deliciousness; and the farrotto side was so rich and flavorful that our table ordered another, despite being full to bursting. Each item that emerges from the Boulud Sud kitchen is artfully plated, and there is clearly no lack of skill. That said, there are certain Items that I probably wouldnt revisit on a return trip: the daurade (their spelling, not mine), the crispy artichokes and the rabbit porchetta (not at all what I was expecting/hoping for; it was a cold terrine, which is unlike any porchetta Ive ever heard of), for instance.Truly, nothing was bad. We cleaned every plate and enjoyed every bite. Do I think there are better options in NYC at this price point? Certainly. However, the service is impeccable, the cocktails impressive, the restaurant itself gorgeous, and if you have the means you should treat yourself to a truly fine dining experience.

In my view, this is the least successful of Bouluds many NYC restaurants, when it comes to the food. (The decor and ambiance are excellent.) While the emphasis on Mediterranean dishes is appreciated, the result is a bit bland, and not as authentic seeming as Bar Boulud next door in its point of view. That said, try the dishes that lean towards middle-eastern, as they are far more successful than those that sound more like what you might find in southern France. On one recent visit, I had a tuna confit brik that had great Tunisian flavors. Same applies to the desserts, some of which are really special.A quick note on my rating scale: 5 stars = exceptional food & service; 4 stars = excellent food & service; 3 stars = decent to good (top-of-the-line for fast service restaurants); 2 stars = mediocre; 1 star = not recommended.

One of the best meals of my whole life, and I do come from Italy. The price was affordable: $100, without wine. Maybe the risotto was slightly overcooked, but hey, the whole dinner was extraordinary. There was a constant citrus idea in every dish we order, perhaps to provide some refreshing flavour to the fish. I was indeed suprised to find some burrata on top of my lobster risotto. Im not sure I loved it, but I was surprised indeed. Moving on to the scallops, well, they were four. Each of them deliciously garnished with some besciamella which also was slightly acidic. The bitter and spicy broccoli rabes were strongly atomised by fried garlic, which were a perfect side to our meal. The flat bread simply disappeared when it reached the table. Finally the dessert. The grape fruit was an explosion of 5 tastes: rose flavoured Turkish delight, sesame halva, whipped cream, the bitter and sour grape fruit itself, and a layer of bitterish caramelised sugar. Im still drooling at the metre thought of such delicacy. Weve ordered a mango based sorbetto as well.Im not sure they have a Michelin star, but they indeed earned an Alfredo 🌟. I was truly stunned.

Balanced, but it is a little bit pricy for the portion.Ordered lemon saffron linguini as entree with request of light oil, but it is a little bit salty and the linguini is under cooked. After I finished all, I can not remember what I ate at all.Overall, for a restaurant, food itself is important than services. I will never visit again.

I have been to this bar Sud few times. Tonite i went there with my japanese friend. Firstly my friend had to inform the bartender how dirty our side of the bar was. Then this bartender totally ignored us meanwhile she was serving other guests fine. Then after 10 mins we asked her colleague for the drinks. We wanted to order dinner but this bartender didnt even ask us for the food menu. I and my friend began discussing other places to go have dinner since we were being ignored by this bartender. Even water wasnt even served to us. I asked this bartender for the check. She again made us wait . Finally i called the manager and complained to him that I am being ignored here at this bar at Bar Sud. He offered me free drink to which i declined. I told him that i am not a free loader . I rather have some respect. I told him that it was very obvious from the behavior of this bartender that She is ignoring me . I told him that it is very apparent that she is ignoring me becuz my skin is brown. Becuz she was very attentive to other customers at the bar who were white or caucasians. I have already 311 at NYC and have filed a complaint against this bar tender and Bar sud for this biased and discriminatory behavior to wards me. I have planned to file a legal complaint against this bar sud for how i was treated tonite by this bartender. I will never ever go to this Bar sud again nor will recommend it to my friends and family. With this kind of horrible bartender on board one needs to stay away from a place like this.

Huge mistake. Appetizer - chicory salad was grossly salty & inedible. Bottom of lettuce was brown. Sunchoke soup was unremarkable potato chowder. Chicken tagine consisted of three small pieces of chicken with gooey skin and two of the pieces were brown. Scallop entree consisted of three scallops sitting alone on the plate. Dessert was small & appeared to be defrosted. Built in 21% gratuity was final insult. We spent over $600 for an abysmal meal. This place truly is the emperors clothing.

Bulud Suds Thanksgiving dinner was priced at an eye-popping $95 per person and did not include any champagne or wine. The latter ordered by the glass ran anywhere from $22 to nearly $27 for a St. Emilion, the retail price per bottle for which is $38.While the food as expected was very good accompanied by excellent service, the same cannot be said for the decor of the restaurant, which had a nondescript upper west side (where it is located) look to it. Although the tables had white linen it was, inexplicably, covered by white paper sheets which were replaced (while others were still dining) when a table was vacated. If the idea is to convey a bistro/cafe feel then Daniel Bulud ought to be setting his prices accordingly instead of the unconscionably high rates his management had set for the Thanksgiving dinner. Bottom line: poor value for money. I would sooner go to Colicchio or SD26 or any number of other high end restaurants than this eatery.

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of dining at Boulud Sud on last Friday and we are already excited about planning a return trip. From top to bottom, this was a professional, excellent experience. Our service was sensational(shout out to Harold our server and Ian the somm), and the food was extraordinary.Being 2 of us, we chose to split a number of different dishes (hence why some of the portions in my photos look small, that is the split size). We started with the hummus platter which is a a great way to get going, we then had the crudo of the day which was I believe a cold water fluke with avocado crema (a different crudo daily, a must try). However, the stars of the night were the Sea Bass entree, and the Trout dish, the later of which is apparently a new item. You could taste the freshness of the fish. Both dishes saw the fish cooked to perfection, and blended amazing flavors and textures. I will be ordering the Sea Bass every single time I come back.Excellent service, vibey atmosphere, wonderful cocktails and a fantastic menu. Chef Arruda and the entire team are doing exciting things at Boulusd Sud and we cant wait to be back

We went during 2018 Winter (Jan.-Feb.) Restaurant week.We tried:Bread with olive oil, on the house, crispy bread slice and bread slice with garlic on top.Sparkling water, bottled, light lemony taste.Appetizer=Mediterranean mezze, the bread was crispy, the hummus have their usual mild tastes, the vegetarian falafels (2 black balls next to the bread) were crispy but not oily, with a dab of green babaghanoush on top of each falafels. The dish taste light and refreshing, stops your hunger and prepares you for the main dish.Gambas al ajillo (garlic shrimp), peeled shrimp soaked in olive oil, garlic, and other seasonings. Has faint flavor of garlic, and light taste.Main dishes=Moroccan chicken tagine, juicy chicken with slightly crispy skin on top, mixed in with turnip, cauliflower, olive, couscous, some greens and other spice, and olive oil. Mostly the light taste of chickens natural juicy flavor.Egyptian lamb Cleopatra, diced lamb cooked to melt in your mouth, with very light gamey taste, seasoned with sweet potatoes, toasted almond, sesame, preserved apricot, turnip, and olive oil. Its boasted to be one of chef Daniel s dish for his wife during their wedding, according to one of their waiters.Desserts=Chocolate Zappa inglese, a tiny but flavorful slice of cake with light sweet taste of chocolate cream and roasted hazelnut.Grapefruit givré, a complex construction of dessert, you should check out how its made online! Stuffed with plenty of grapefruit flavored ice-cream inside. The cold lowered most but not all of the bitter taste of grapefruit, with added texture from pieces of grapefruit pulp chunks, tiny marshmallows(?), caramelized sealer that looks like a net covering the opening of the frozen grapefruit, and fluffy cotton-like halva(?). Many layer of texture and flavor, by far the best dish of the whole night, IMO.Earl Grey (black tea) with milk and sugar chunks, also offer an assortment of packaged sugar selections.Tiny chocolate halva chunks(?), on the house, sweet little treat to end the night.Service=The waiters/waitresses dont limit their service to their own tables, so they are fast and friendly, even patiently answered all of my questions regarding how to say the food name, and what the food are. The busboys/busgirls always remember to ask if you are done with the food before they take it back to the kitchen, and they always sweep the crumbs away. Over all, they are friendly, polite, fast, and informative, never forget to smile!Coming from regular consumer of flavorful Chinese food, the flavor of Mediterranean food is a little underwhelming, but everything was very well cooked, and if friends are willing, Id still come back to explore other items on the menu!

They seem to magically appear 5 seconds before you’ve thought of what you need. But all that fades compared with food. We selected the three course fixed price meal for $65 a person. Having eaten at several very high end restaurants in Manhattan I believe the price is a bargain. For us the portions were the right size. Not to small nor too big. While the food has always been good they’ve upped their quality with a new chef. They’re out competing the competition.

Boulud Sud not only has a clean, posh atmosphere and amazingly delicious food, but I cant compliment the staff enough. I arrived with my partner without a reservation during their busiest time (which was in direct correlation to the 8pm curtain at the Lincoln Center) this evening, and they were very accommodating and communicative about our wait time and sat us ASAP. Once we were seated, the service continued to be superb. It seemed each time I polished off my water glass, it automatically refilled, they were so attentive to it. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the food and menu items as well as the city and surrounding boroughs. The flavors of each course were distinct, unique and delicious and I will definitely be a repeat customer, but the stars of tonights experience were earned by the excellent staff.
