Came here after a flight for a quick first meal in NYC, and wow, the French Onion Soup was so good. Of course, everyone has a personal taste but my wife agreed it was amazing and got one for herself. On our last day in NYC, we stopped in again for a couple of bowls before heading to the airport. My 5 year old daughter almost finished an entire bowl on her own! If you are a French onion soup fan, make sure to try it here.
I came across Blackwells one night on my way to the train. It was pretty packed but the sole bartender was taking care of the entire house with just one bar back and I have no idea how he did it. Anyway, it took him a while to get to us initially but it was not his fault. Service was excellent and the food was surprisingly good. Im sure Ill be back but this time itll be on purpose.
Super casual atmosphere in the form of a welcoming Irish pub. Enjoy a Guinness with the shepherd’s pie for the full experience. Great friendly service.
Great beer, food, and atmosphere. Can get crowded and loud. Staff and service is amazing.
Love this pub. Honestly in my humble opinion probably the best pub in NY. Friendly Irish bar tenders (cliche), fantastic food (better then the other bars Ive eaten at in NY) and large selection of beers, wine and spirits.Great prices as well. If youre a salad person, try the steak salad. The steak alone is worth it!
Went for lunch, was able to be seated right away, and quiet enough to have a conversation. The Korean bbq cauliflower appetizer was delicious, I would have it again. The French onion soup was one of the best Ive tried. I also ordered the calamari which was good. A bit on the pricey side but its in NY, what do you expect.
Nice Irish Pub. Good food, great service and some good variety.
Had to stop in because of the name but will totally come back (cant wait). Cocktails were amazing! Highly recommend!!
I came here as a party of two for after work dinner.Environment: Solid ambiance. Lighting was dark, but not too dark to not be able to see the other party. It wasnt too loud, and we could hear each other without yelling too much.Service: Waitress was nice, and was very prompt in the uptake. Food also came surprisingly fast.Food: I ordered the fish and chips and some Guinness. The fries were disappointing as they were really soft, and felt stale. The fish was decent, good crunch, but small. Nothing really to write home about.Price: This was my biggest gripe with this restaurant. I paid $8 for a 3/4 pint. This was way too expensive for the beer. Fish and chips was also on the high end at $19. This is what takes the restaurant down from a 3 star to a 2 star.Overall, its a decent restaurant; nothing really to separate it from the other pubs in the area. However, the price for beer makes this not a good value play.
It was my First visit, we were able to find a table quick at dinner time during the week. The staff was friendly, the drinks were good, the boneless wings were just ok, they were made differently than the usual boneless wings. Overall a fun place to visit but maybe not my first option for next time.
The atmosphere was great and menu was full of options! The steak was a little over cooked, but still tasted good!
Great neighborhood Irish Tavern just steps from Grand Central.
Good food, great service
The food was so delicous!! We got the vegan meatballs (they tasted almost like risotto balls), brussell sprouts and mac and cheese. All of it was very delicious comfort food. A little overpriced but I suppose that is standard for new york food.
Deserted when we were there because it was only 11:30am. Food was delicious..Chicken Marsala was perfect and the Shepherds Pie was the real deal (were Brits so we know...😉)..our server let my wife try a couple of different Pintos to get the right one.
Great place, love the servers and the food was fantastic.
Blackwells has become my favorite happy hour spot in midtown. My only complaint is that they close too early on Thursdays. The space is very open, so youre not bumping into people simply trying to walk around.
This place is warm and inviting. The locals are friendly and the bar tenders are charming and witty, with cute Irish accents. The chef must be a good one because my steak was cook perfectly!
Have been here a few times for lunch. The food and drinks are always good and the service is good and quick. Great place to come with a group as the noise level is reasonable and you can have a conversation without yelling.
THIS PLACE!!!My friends and I decided to stop in for lunch on a whim. The staff was super friendly. Very empty (corporate area on a sunday afternoon). We were seated immediately and had the entire reasturant to ourselves (except for a guy at the bar). Our waitress (michelle) was prompt, friendly and very helpful. We all decided to start with an appetizer. We got the mac n cheese, fried calamari and pita bread with hummus.I literally cant stop thinking about the mac n cheese .Literally. Cant.It was AMAZING. Gruyere and chedder jack, perfect. The calamari was light, fresh and crispy. The pita bread was delicious and the hummus was great. The portion sizes were AMAZING for appetizers. We endes up not purchasing an entree! We did however also purchase thw French toast brioche. The toast was light, flavorful and beautifully paired with strawberries ( the menu says apples, but we asked for strawberries!). The syrup was great, everything was great. Amazing portion size (not too big) and everything came out the kitchen quick. One of us had a drink and the bartender put the perfect anount of alcohol, not light nor heavy handed. Exceptional experience, we will absolutely be returning.
The menu and daily specials have kept me coming back two weeks in a row. Great lunch spot for the folks that work nearby. It also works great as the local happy hour drinks hot spot. The menu is surprisingly not just your typical bar/pub food. They have a unique menu ranging from Quinoa to Cheesesteaks. Even the French onion soup is pretty good.We started with the Burrata and Fried Eggplant. Topped with parmesan reggiano cheese and tomato, as well as some arugula on the side. Very good. The eggplant was thinly breaded but crispy and complimented the tomato with burrata combination. The signature named Blackwell burger with bacon was a hit with my lunch buddy, served on a brioche bun. Per my foodie buddy, the fish and chips were great. Its fried cod fish served with malt vinegar on the side and Cole slaw. Generous portions and fries too. I had the tuna melt with fries and it was only ok, probably just need to change the cheese type it came with (it was provolone I think, cheddar wouldve been better). The chicken and shrimp entree with a butter tequila sauce is a hit. The shrimps have the tail on so FYI, you will have to pull it off when you eat it. Great presentation.Ive also tried the beef chopped steak topped with a mushroom marsala sauce. It was juicy and medium rare as requested. Very good. Both entrees came with steamed vegetables and our choice of potato. We opted for the mashed - buttery and smooth.
The food was really good. The Guinness was exceptional. Will definitely go back in the future
Best bartender in the city.
Busy with the after work finance crowd. Came here for drinks with a friend. The bar has a good list of beers and bottles. Hard alcohol as well. Service was plentiful and prompt.
Blackwells is a roomy gastropub with an Irish vibe situated on E. 47th Street in midtown Manhattan, New York City. This place gets very crowded indeed. Decent beer and food and friendly staff.
Amazing service and beer selection ! The food is out of this world - Get the pizza!! daily specials are amazing too.
Pub with nice interior. Service and food was quick and efficient. The place has a big dining area in case you dont want all the noise from the bar area. Prices about average for this area.
The food was decent, there was no wait to get in for dinner or drinks. Prices are where you would expect for around here, beers are going to run $6-8 a pint.
Excellent food and staff were very friendly. Nice atmosphere, well worth a visit. The Blackwells burger was delicious.
Great atmosphere, the price was average for the city. The food was good, nothing spectacular. There house beer was great.
Great place to stop for lunch, has smaller menu but lots of side options. Staff was very prompt and nice.
Nice place good selection of whiskeys and stuff and good bartenders and I had burgers too which werent too bad too not bad 5 star place oh and the bathroom was clean too which is pretty good for a bar good stuff
Nice place. They gave me a drink on the house after 2, which seems to be a usual thing in all the *good pubs* in NYC
I had the chicken panini. The chicken was dry and hard, borderline inedible. I didnt even finish it. The only thing decent was the chipotle mayo.
This was our go to pub when in nyc but unfortunately we were there over the weekend and it was very cold we asked the door man to please close the outside door which he did. A few minutes later he opened it again?we had to sit at the bar with our coats on.not very good customer service we won’t be going back.
Blackwell has friendly staff and a good selection of beers. They know how to draft! Food is available as well.
Great friendly service. Good value tasty food. Bar has a nice vibe.
Seems like an ok place. Only stopped in for a beer. The beer seemed fresh and the glass was very clean. Bartender was very nice.
They call themselves gastropub, and it is deserved. Blackwells has a relaxed pub atmosphere, and their menu has enough choices for gastronomy pleasures.
Best bar in town! Bar food is outstanding and always delicious! But the best is David, theres no bartender like him, he makes you feel like youre family or part of the gang. Music is amazing and the whole place is just cozy and inviting. Youll love this NY hidden gem!! ❤️
Irish pub food served up well, nice beer selection.
What a place. I just loved it. All the staff are awesome. Delicious food and the atmosphere is very nice
Traditional Irish pub. The steak is fantastic! Ate at the bar both times. Great experience.
Awesome place: Excellent food and nice people!!!
Miserable staff. Expensive drinks. Went in on a Friday night (April 26th) 5 people in the entire bar. That should tell you everything. Never again for me. Food greasy and barely warm.
Absolutely a great place to hang out. David was the best ever and the food was great.
Had a nice meeting here with a group of 8 we walked in and they very graciously accommodated us liked the place and the staff
Great Food! We were welcome with a smile after being out 18 mos.
Great service and food. I especially like the Cajun Salmon Avocado salad.
Service was excellent and food came out quickly!
Fantastic staff, relaxed atmosphere & nicely dressed place. Perfect for nightcap, open until 2 am.
Good burgers here. One of my go to places for lunch during the week.
Great food, good happy hour house beer, great service.
Great place .food was excellent. Service was excellent
Good burgers, basic menu, fills up very quickly.
Its a bar, expect bar food, dont go there thinking its a five star meal
Great atmosphere and food!!
In a crowded Manhattan bar space, this place is a welcome change. Few lines and prompt service.
Had a Stella on draught. They definitely needed to check their pipes/barrels as it smelt strongly of vinegar. No issues on service.Atmosphere was a bit dark and bland but may have been the time of the week I went.
Lovely Staff, great service and reasonable prices. We had a great time.
Good bar type food. Good service. Great spot for a quick lunch. Not crowded. Chicken Quesadilla tasty and filling.
Decent service. Basic, unexciting food and surroundings. It was fine.
Fast service, good food, nothing bad to say.
Good place for a after dinner drink, decent beer selection
Great bar and atmosphere. I hope to return soon.
Irish pub with a few irish people working there. Decent food and drink.
Friendly bartenders, clean facilities, good food
Very good food, great service
Fantastic service and food was very tasty.
Very nice. Service was very good, very nice atmosphere.
Usually not too crowded. There are seats inside if you need a quieter place to talk.
Just discovered this nice place just across the street from our hotel. My wife and I are Aussies and in NYC for 4 days What a pleasure to find a busy pub thats unpretentious and has atmosphere. A little noisy but thats what you want in a pub. Good, honest hearty food and very friendly service. We have one more night in the city and well definitely be back.
Their burgers are amazing. 5/5
Nice place. Friendly Irish chap behind the bar and quick food service. A Few different beers available. We had a cottage pie and steak, both were really good, 18 and 29$. Steak was cooked perfectly and came with veg and another side. Comfortable atmosphere.
Great atmosphare and good comfort food.
Pretty decent pub food, if you are curious in sampling an English version of Chicken Curry without traveling over the pond to London, this place is it. Just wish they could have had a hard shell fish and chip instead of the beer batter, but it still tasty as well. Cozy seating, acoustics carry thought out the pub, friendly and attentive service.
Beautiful pub and restaurant with a versatile menu offering something for everyone. My favorite so far are fish and chips. The batter is crisp and the fish flaky .I highly recommend this item and the shepherds pie as well.
It took me a while to figure out what I wanted for dinner. There were so many great items on the menu. I went with the shrimp and goat cheese salad. It was delicious. Friendly staff as well. All around great place for quality American comfort food.
Downgrading to 3 stars.. not that theyve done anything wrong recently. the place just doesnt stand out other than its the closest bar to my office.. pretty good burgers though.. Id lunch here if they reduced the burger to less than 10 bucks
Not Tourist friendly!! We went around 9:00 On a weekday so the restaurant wasnt busy. We got seated at the worst table in a corner although plenty of better tables available. Service was very poor. We dealt with 3 different people and each were unfriendly. We had to get their attention every time we needed service. It was obvious they didnt care for our business. You just felt that they didnt want you there. Food was very poor for 3 of the 4 of us. Neat looking bar, which may be a neat place to get a drink. But I dont recommend the restaurant.
Friendly staff. Annemarie very chatty and made us feel welcome. Only brought 2 meals for 3 people, although we ordered 3, but this was corrected and the meal was nice. Give the dessert a miss! Cheesecake was awful.
Great owner great bartender, true story!!)
Id love to share the details of my own experience. My husband and I walked passed on our way back to our hotel room, decided we would give the place a go because of reviews despite there was only 1 person inside. Came back about 15 mins later and the moment we walked inside the door the guy behind the bar RUDELY looked up from his phone, said were closed and carried on looking at his phone. I asked him if they were closed for the whole night as it was only 8pm and he completely ignored me. Hence we left!
Awesome place! Friendly staff and good prices. Definitely a good place to grab a drink and good food as well.
Great food, cold beer, Happy hour crowd indoors but plenty of tables in back for group dinners
Great. Seems to close early so double check before you go!
Great Bar for food and drinks
Keep going back. Great place
Nice classic NYC bar. Not too much sports, not too many Bros. Spacious comfortable place to have drink and a talk. Good bartenders.
Cozy Irish bar with awesome pies. This is a comfortable place to dine when elsewhere is over crowded. Great service.
Great place to eat & watch sports. Always ask for extra napkins. Its that good!
Good Irish pub on east 47th street, surrounded by office blocks and hotels. Good beers, packed out after six oclock. Good food, reasonably priced.
Standard pub grub done nicely. Bartender is funny. 5 stars if it were a lil cheaper but standard for this area.
Emptiest and dearest of bars visited last night. Friendly Irish barman. Quiet enough for conversation. Not likely to revisit.
Great atmosphere...friendly staff. Love the blackwells ale ....and buffalo wings. Loved the music too
I come here for after work happy hours. Bartenders are quick and mostly friendly. Food is standard bar food. Plenty of seating in the bar area.
The calamari is so light and crispy, its soooo good! The wings are good too. Love this place.
Wonderful gathering place where the food & drinks are second to none. Staff very attentive.
Very nice pub that usually is quiet. The staff is very friendly, and the atmosphere is very relaxing!
Delicious spot in the office building. Amazing food - great service!
Typical pub. Food is ok for the most part.
1St time here. Friendly service. Excellent food. Reasonable prices.
Nice staff, good burgers, decent prices
Excellent food! Great salmon, steak and wraps! One of my fava
Good ambiance, good service, bartenders who know how to make a drink properly and tasty food. Overall a good experience for dinner. New York prices but, hey, its in New York!
Great service, friendly staff and the food was delicious. Great selection of Irish beers and whiskeys! My girlfriend says the bathroom was clean too...
Loud with indifferent service, but interestingly enough the food is actually worth it. Surprising what you can find in Midtown.
Excellent service !!! ASK FOR DAVE ,ALAN. OR JOHNNY
People were friendly, bartender remembered me when I came back... and my drink was never empty! Total good time!
Blackwells has a great menu of pub food and the service is excellent.
My local lunch spot. The chili here is great. So is the Blackwells burger. Friendly bartenders and wait staff.
I really enjoyed the food poisoning and bloody diarrhea I got after eating here. Food arrived 5 minutes after ordering and was hot and tasted cooked, but I guess it wasnt
Came for a colleagues work event, and was lushed out before even buying a drink. The bar was not crowded at all, and Im confused as to why this occurred.
I ordered the steak salad and it was average. In fact, for $17 I thought the portion was a little small. My husband ordered shepherds pie which was a large portion but tasted average as well.
Friendly staff and good pub food, good place to meet friends.
Spot on and the dishes were well prepared even though it wasnt busy. Great value too.
Great place for dinner and a drink after work. Johnny the bartender is first rate.
Great food and atmosphere.
Very good food and beer. Recommended

Delicious food, prompt service, kind staff. Ill be back.
Great chili and soup.
The food is ok. The place is meh (I guess dont really like Irish pub style).
Great place for after work drinks
Great food, great service,
Good pub.
Had some drinks and appetizers here with some friends from out of town last week. I dont normally spend time in midtown, but this was such a nice bar that I felt compelled to leave it a good review.
The bar tender was aggressive, extremely unprofessional and rude. Dont go to this place.
David is an excellent bartender.
The food was nothing special. Very disappointing.
Food is good and staffs are friendly.
Wings were really good..

This is a pub where you can have a casual meal and drink beer. Restaurants around here are often very crowded, but when I went there early (around 6pm), there were plenty of seats and I was able to relax.
Everything perfect, from the music to the food! Above all we liked the chicken wraps, the best we ate during our trip to NYC. The staff were also very friendly and above all the service was fast, which is something we have not experienced in many other places we have been.
We came to this place after a meeting around the neighborhood. It has a nice atmosphere and the staff was very nice and attentive. The food was good and the drinks were very delicious. We visited this place after a meeting in the same neighborhood. This PUB has a nice atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was good and the drinks were very tasty.
We had our last evening here after four weeks in the USA. The restaurant playfully delivers what the reviews and menu promise. Our food was some of the best we had eaten in four weeks. Gladly again, only recommended.
Meets expectations - Rees good fish&chips and cheese cake - friendly and friendly service
Very good food and attention. Excellent salmon
Great burger!! Good coffee in clean surroundings
A great place, good service, good food. I recommend it.
