Earl and Nicole are the reason we had such a great experience here. They were so welcoming to our family of four. We ordered hot chocolate for the kids, and the dim sums and garlic edamame for us - they were was amazing! Unfortunately, the customers next to us were a bit confrontational with us having our kids.. hopefully it’s just a one off experience. It was our first time but we’d definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick bite and cozy vibe.

Very dark and dive aesthetic for the area which was not expected. I heard the bartender say to another patron (assumed friend by the amount of attention she got in comparison to others) that someone asked for a cocktail and she didnt know how to make so she just gave her anything. She didnt try to sell me any food and I only learned they had food because another patron asked. Felt like I was on an episode of Bar Rescue and Jon Taffer was going to burst through the door at any moment.

Last weekend, I visited here for having brunch. I got smoked salmon Benedict.Servers were so friendly. Regarding the service, nothing to complain. Just good! The fries were salty..and I dont know why it was almost black.......Also, one of my muffins was burnt.. it was bitter...I cannot say it was bad. But its a shame they didnt focus on the taste..😂

Absolutely dreadful and horrendous service. I stopped in with my friend to get a night cap and he received a broken glass . He cut his finger while reaching for the glass and shed blood. We alerted the server and she was monotonous and dull, barely offering him a band aid. We didn’t expect her to call an ambulance but an apology and new beverage would’ve been the appropriate response . We didn’t even get that drink taken off the bill and when I asked the server about it , she brought back the chipped cup demanding where he cut himself. This is extremely unprofessional, insane and disgusting treatment of customers. I will NEVER come back and you should not visit! A “Karen” would’ve thrown a fit having the whole bill compensated. Horrible place.

Enjoyed Sunday brunch this morning @ Hi Life. It was easy to reserve, we sat quickly, loved our sandwiches and pancakes and mimosas — and had really attentive and great service. As I was about to head home at the end of the day — I stopped back in to grab a cup of Hot Chocolate to go. And the hostess gladly cooked one up for me and wouldn’t take any money. True story — will be back! :-)

Met a friend here for drinks on a Friday night and this is the perfect neighborhood bar. This small spot is cozy and not overly crowded, but it still had a super warm and intimate buzz about it. You gotta love Hi-Life. They have literally everything on their menu and it is all good. Tonight I had a steamed artichoke to start and split a burger with my friend. Everything was delicious. We did not drink tonight, but the cocktails are terrific as well. My favorite is the Cosmo. It’s very pleasant to sit outside on a nice evening. Best of all, the prices are reasonable. Hi-life is a reliable neighborhood “go to” restaurant! It’s been there forever, and it never gets old❤️

We loved dining at this hidden gem. Amsterdam Ave is full of different restaurants and we chose to add HiLife to our restaurant week this year. Service was great, attentive and food came out so fast. The atmosphere is cozy and full of old school photos worthy of conversation. As for the food, the sushi was super fresh and delicious. My skirt steak was just a tad bit chewy but flavorful nonetheless. The pad thai was one of the better pad thais weve had in a long time. The chocolate brownie was warm and decadent. Overall this place has a variety of options on the menu, a little something for everyone.

The hostess’s were very nice they had brought us into the back and then said hold on one second. They then brought us to the front and a rude older gentleman said multiple times we can only be there an hour. We would’ve been fine with him saying it once but over 5 times is excessive. We proceeded to order our meals and the server was very nice. We waiting about 10 minutes and I had asked for a medium well steak which was $35 and it came out EXTREMELY RARE.. I don’t care about the price but if I’m paying that money and being rushed to eat I expect my food to be made properly. Staff was extremely nice aside from the rude older gentleman and the under cooked steak. Place is called Hi-Life and that older gentleman came off as a LOWLIFE!

From the moment I saw the burger arrive at my table, I knew it was going to be something special. The presentation was top-notch, with a perfectly toasted bun, fresh lettuce and tomato, and a juicy beef patty cooked to perfection. The aroma of the burger was mouth-watering, and I couldnt wait to dig in.The beef patty was incredibly flavorful, with a perfect balance of seasoning and juiciness that made each bite burst with flavor. The bun was excellent providing the perfect complement to the savory patty. The toppings were also delicious, with fresh lettuce and tomato adding a nice crunch and acidity to the burger. What really set this burger apart, however, was the attention to detail in its preparation. Every element of the burger was clearly crafted with care and attention to detail, from the perfectly melted cheddar, crispy pancetta and pickled ginger served with spicy sushi on the side that added a delightful tanginess to the overall flavor profile.Overall, I would highly recommend this burger to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal. Its clear that the restaurant takes great pride in their food, and it definitely shows in the quality and flavor of the burger. Whether youre a die-hard burger fan or simply looking for a delicious meal, this burger is sure to impress.

Went for Sunday Brunch around 2p. Got an omelette and fries. I could have easily made a better omelette at home. Eggs over cooked and the Omelette itself felt small for the price. Fries were decent but ultimately pedestrian. They didn’t have ranch dressing at all. Never been to any type of restaurant that doesn’t have the most popular salad dressing ever made. Water was served from a Grey Goose bottle which I thought was a questionable choice. My friend got a burger and fries. Bun was clearly from a bag. My wife and I walked in on a blustery December evening and found the cozy, old-school atmosphere perfect. Great initial impression enhanced by perfectly prepared classic Manhattans (not just the Millennials recipe of chilled bourbon in a cocktail glass). Note this was the first non-Asian restaurant in NYC to have a separate, dedicated sushi bar. So, no slouches when it comes to general attention and care. With a truly eclectic menu available (Thai, Sushi, Burgers, etc) I ordered a very unfortunate steak. While closing in on $30 and described as a “14 oz. grilled NY shell steak” and ordered medium-rare, it was similar to a thin (1/4”+/-) slice of over-cooked eye-round (e.g. tough) about ¾ the size of a slice of Pepperidge Farm White Bread. Sides were fine, but I should have sent the piece of meat back (which I’m not in the habit of). Didn’t try other items on the menu but I assume they’re likely fine judging from the fact that the cocktails were handled with care and meat is one area where restaurants can cut corners.

This is one of my favorite bars in NYC (the West Side version, not the East Side!). Im not even sure if I could tell you why, because its not particularly extraordinary--the food is fine and the drinks are fine, but not anything Id write home about--I think its probably because every time Ive come here Ive had a good time (perhaps influenced by one too many G&Ts) and the staff is always super inviting and friendly. The decor is a throwback to the Rat Pack era, with old movie posters on the wall, and there is always a game on to watch. Hi Life has been a go to spot for drinks and inexpensive eats for decades. They have special deals on items such as sushi (50% off Mon & Tues), appetizers (3 for the price of 2 on Wed & Sun) and more (check their website for deets). They also offer a daily happy hour from 4-7pm and boiler makers have their own menu (!). The food varies from okay to very good although the funky, dimly lit atmosphere does a lot to make up for the minor culinary imperfections. Hi-Life Restaurant has the rudest delivery people on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The incessantly boorish delivery guy, Fernando, is still apparently resentful of the instructions I have given for my orders. He still tells fibs that he cant get into the building, and I dont answer my phone to buzz him in. That is a complete and total untruth.I called Hi Life and spoke with the manager of duty, Elsa. She said she would talk with the delivery drivers. I hope so. As a customer who spends at least $400 weekly, the delivery peoples shenanigans need to stop.

BEWARE!! DO NOT EAT unless you want to be verbally insulated. Unfortunately a beautiful night turned bad very quickly. The food look wonderful- but when I bit into the burger I found a hair. I ended up leaving in disgust- paid for my drink- gave a tip and went else where. When I was walking back to my place- one of the hosts charged me and starting telling me I was liar. That it was my nappy hair in the burger. Im a women of color. I have never been insulted/embarrassed that much in my life. PLEASE whatever you do- dont complain about the hair or else!!!! Youve been warned!

I just ordered delivery of the penne with grilled chicken for the 3rd or 4th time. I thought it needed more garlic, though, in the tomato sauce, so I asked for it in a *delivery* order. This restaurant doesnt kid around. They delivered more garlic in the sauce, and it made a huge difference in how much I enjoyed the meal, and my ongoing 40 year love of the food consistency of this excellent bar/restaurant. They dont flinch to anyone on the restaurant part of the bar equation.

Came here on a Monday for a beer and fries. The fries were soggy and reheated fries. Usually I would return then and ask for proper ones but was just too tired to debate it with a place that feels its ok to pass reheated soggy fries to a customer. Thankfully there are good options in the neighborhood that have never had this experience with before. I recommend staying away because of low work ethics.

Sat down at the bar and the bartender attended someone else first that sat after…That was wild. Anywho-Food was crazing underwhelming. Ribs was trash. Dry, burnt and had an awful bbq sauce. The cream of spinach was no good. No flavor at all. Ordered a burger and after informing my bartender I wanted tomatoes and onions on my burger, what do you know, it came out with no tomato’s or onions lol. The sushi sauce it came with was crazy salty too. I love sushi sauce and that was just disgusting. So yeah, everything was just bad. Kinda wish I never ate here while starving. Felt like such a waste lolThe place looks chill tho 🤷🏻‍♀️

Until my last meal here, Hi-Life would have gotten an unqualified 5 stars. A varied menu with something for everyone in a comfortable casual setting, convenient to transportation and a lot of great destinations, plus pretty fair prices. And it was always really, really good. But last week they had an off night. And yes, it happens to everyone, so I will definitely go back and I wont really hold it against them, but they did it when I had out of town guests so it was embarrassing.Usually the steak sandwich is reliably delicious, but that night it was tough and tasteless. I heard that most of the food was meh, though my mussels were great and the edamame with garlic appetizer was amazing and loved by all. To be fair, it was an unusually warm October Saturday and the place was packed, so maybe they were simply overwhelmed and unprepared for the swarm of guests. We love the burgers here, and usually can order blindfolded. They even have solid sushi! And very good brunch. Totally worth a try, but maybe not when theyre slammed.

The two stars are for the wait staff only. The food was nothing even an Applebees would be fine serving. We started with their “Margherita pizza” which is nothing more than a literal FROZEN store bought thin crust cheese pizza. For entrees we got steak with mash and spinach and a cheeseburger with bacon. The steak and burger both cooked medium were beyond charred that they had no other flavor. The mash and spinach were beyond bland, no seasoning or flavor to them. Even the bacon on the burger had clearly been pre cooked earlier in the day and just used when needed, not fresh. We should have taken a hint that there were reservations available and dead on a Sunday night (and Mother’s Day). One of the worst meals we’ve had in the city.

This is a perfect place to bring a friend to chat over delicious food and drinks. The service is quick but I never feel rushed. It is easy to sit back and really relax. There seems to be a lot of history to this place which is nice. The portions are definitely enough to get you full. I recommend the blue point oysters served on half shells. Just a little lemon and it is perfect! This spot is very popular during the weekends but if you go in on a week day (especially Monday night) you might see an empty table. Love to come here for a relaxed but positively energized atmosphere. 😊

My food was excellent, I had the Argentinian flank steak. Flank steak is a fairly low grade cut, but it was flavored and prepared very well, making it very enjoyable. The creamed spinach was very good, the mashed potatoes were average, but good. I will say the the frozen daiquiri was weak and lacked flavor. A friend had a lemon chicken dish that was really good and well. The service was above average and service times where good. Fairly good menu variety also.
