Wow! Some of the best food I have had in the city! Was looking for a nice place for dinner on a Saturday night, happened to find this place and they were super accommodating without a reservation. Our server, Dulce, was personable and attentive and took such good care of us. We will be coming back, highly recommend!

Absolutely amazing. The duck is a must try along with the carrots and potatoes. I mean the food was so good. Each small plate can easily be shared between 2 people. We got the full duck because we were a party of 6. They provided excellent service. They recommend dish parings and also advised us on what to order due to our party size. The red Sangria was so good. My friend did get a cocktail and it was very well made. The vibe is very relaxed so it was nice to sit back and enjoy ourselves.

Ambiance is cute, food not so much. Ordered the tomato on sourdough w. garlic (PCT) and idk where they get their tomatoes, but it was very bland and watered down. The Gambas Al Ajillo (shrimp dish) was the only good, flavorful dish. They served us the salmon dish we didn’t order and so they gave it to us complimentary, but the sauce was so rancid it made me sick after - can’t come back.

Seriously, the most modernly quaint and comfortable Tapas experience. Every single item on their menu is absolutely incredible. The service? Outstanding! The atmosphere was completely perfect. We wandered in, not knowing what to expect, while walking around Manhattan on a hot spring day. What began as a basic need for wine and snacks turned into 3+ hours of insanely good food and comfortable conversation. Do not sleep on this place!!

Even though the food was good, the service is really bad. It took 1.5 hours to get our steak. (It was told us that it would take 30min) When the steak was brought, everything else got cold. They asked 2 times if the patatas bravas was brought, they were not able to keep track of what they brought or not. And we were the first guests. These things can happen but they didn’t even say sorry. I’m not sure if it’s worth the price, there are many tapas places in NYC with good quality service.

If anything the inside area got pretty toasty because of the open kitchen. The dishes we got were:1. Manchego and Marconi almonds — recommend2. Croquetas of the day (Ham) — recommend3. Gambas (Shrimp) — recommend4. Roasted cabbage — do not recommend

The establishment offered a diverse array of Spanish cuisine that showcased the flavors and culinary traditions of the region. Among the various dishes I tried, the standout was undoubtedly the octopus. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, flavorful, and an absolute delight to savor. The restaurant itself exuded a pleasant ambiance, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. The service provided by the staff was commendable, as they were attentive and accommodating. However, there was one area where the experience fell slightly short: the speed at which the food was served. The dishes took longer than expected to arrive at the table, and although the service was good overall, a quicker turnaround time would have enhanced the dining experience. While some of the dishes fell into the realm of average, there were several standout options that showcased the culinary expertise of the restaurant. Its worth noting that the desserts, unfortunately, proved to be a letdown, failing to leave a lasting impression. Despite this, the overall quality of the food, combined with the pleasant ambiance and attentive service, makes this establishment a worthwhile visit. In conclusion, I would wholeheartedly recommend this Spanish restaurant to those seeking a delightful dining experience. While there were minor shortcomings such as slow food service and underwhelming desserts, the standout dishes and the overall quality of the cuisine make it a destination worth exploring. So, come and indulge in the flavors of Spain, and let the restaurant transport you to a culinary journey that will leave you with fond memories of your visit.

Disappointing Experience: Discrimination and Poor ServiceMy recent visit to left me feeling incredibly disappointed and frustrated. From the moment I entered the establishment, I experienced a sense of discrimination and unequal treatment compared to other tables. One incident that particularly stood out was when I wanted to take a quick picture with my family. However, when I approached the waiter and politely asked for his assistance, he curtly dismissed my request, claiming he had a real job to do. It was disheartening to witness the waiters lack of professionalism and disregard for my simple request, especially considering there were only two occupied tables and he appeared to have plenty of free time to spare.Throughout my meal, I noticed the waiter engaging in casual conversations with his colleagues, clearly showing a lack of attention to his responsibilities. Despite my attempts to get his attention for additional assistance, he never bothered to check on our table or address our needs. The lack of attentiveness and indifference displayed by the staff added to the overall feeling of being unwelcome and disregarded. Moreover, it was evident that the waiters behavior was not reflective of the entire restaurants atmosphere, as other tables seemed to be receiving more prompt and courteous service. This inconsistency in treatment only further emphasized the sense of discrimination that marred my dining experience. As a paying customer, I expected to be treated with respect and receive the same level of service as any other guest in the restaurant. Unfortunately, my encounter at Debajo fell far short of this expectation. The discriminatory attitude displayed by the waiter, coupled with his disregard for our needs, left a lasting negative impression on me and my family.I sincerely hope that the management of Debajo takes this feedback seriously and takes steps to address the issues of discrimination and unprofessional behavior among their staff. Discrimination has no place in any establishment, and every customer deserves to be treated equally and with respect.

Food was great, space is terrific, service was terrible. Following our first tapas plates, we waited 60 mins to get our next plates (1 hour and 20 mins after they were initially ordered) and in that time there was no check in or explanation. When we were finally able to flag her down to the point that she could not ignore, she insisted that there was no mistake. Apparently it takes 90 mins to cook a sliver of salmon. Another 20 mins passed before the next dish was ultimately brought out. If you have 2+ hours and don’t mind waiting 60 minutes between tapas with no service, the food is really very good.

Debajo serves fabulously delicious food. The wait staff was amazing. They gave us excellent service and attention. The tapas dishes kept on coming. As quickly as each dish arrived, it was consumed before I even thought to take a photo. The colors, aroma and flavor of every dish met the eye and palate delightfully. I was particularly fond of the Little Gem Salad and the cauliflower dish. Amazing! The only problem with Debajo was the very loud music. It was good music, suitable for the style of the restaurant but it was too loud to carry on conversation. Dont people go out to eat to enjoy good drink and food while sharing about life, joy, and culture? Why loud music has become the norm in American restaurants eludes me. Next time Ill get take out.

A highlight from my time in NYC. We had a great experience on a weekday night… truly wonderful hospitality and the chef was extremely kind and willing when we requested a recipe from a dish we had. Every dish was memorable, the bavette steak in particular was stellar… seared to perfection and the chimichurri and greens served with it made every bite a perfect amalgamation of flavor. Don’t skip dessert – the milk gelato is to die for!!!!! Thank you all for a very lovely dinner.

This is a newer restaurant housed in the lower floor of a hotel. The reviews here caused us to pick this spot, but in hindsight we should have been more discerning.Several of the tapas dishes were quite nice, including the broccolini and cauliflower plates. Portions were typical of tapas bars. We were underwhelmed by the ham dishes, which we expected to be the best given this restaurants theme. Tasteless and very small portion for $18.But the worst part were the bathrooms, which were all stinky and in need of attention. I tried all 4 when the first was awful, and every one was in bad shape and with bad smell. I discussed this with our server, who said they would tell the hotel staff who manage the facilities.Im sure this place has promise. They need to work out the kinks in their menu and running the show. This is an example of why I generally distrust restaurants that are adjunct to hotels any more.

The vibe was easy and great. Food was tasty but a bit salty, I guess that’s the way to make you drink more. My wife and I had a few tapas and enjoyed the meal, but the place is not entirely a tapas bar but more of a drink bar with some light food. Still it’s not bad.

5 star experience until recent months. I’m not sure what happened as Debajo has been solid for so long. From intimate dinners to large parties, there is something for everyone. If I try to pin point it, I feel like the execution of the dishes has been really missing the bar lately. Some of it came out lackluster in flavor, others came lukewarm. Hope they can get back on their A-game.

Innovative tapas bar who create some nice variations of classic Spanish tapas as I know them. Super relaxed location (it’s in the basement, so easy to miss). They have a small but nice wine menu. My recommendation is to try the Boquerones (smooth lemon notes) or the Broccoli a la Plancha (with an unusual but very nice tahini dressing). The only two things I’ve missed was a good Spanish Brandy and a Cafe at the end.

The atmosphere is fantastic, both on their patio and inside. And the food is some of the best Spanish in the area, which includes Mercado at Hudson Yards. Its easy to miss because its kind of below ground (hence the name), but dont. A few highlights are the P-C-T (pan con tomate), which a good Spanish place kind of had to get right, and the pulpo, which is amazingly tasty. The drinks are pretty great too and theyve got a nice selection of aperitifs.
