The piano player (Michael I believe) was great. The girl who sang and works there April great. The only down fall was Zack his attitude was nasty and as they were taking music request when we requested a song by a Latin singer quite honestly his response was gross. His facial expression made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable there.

Ah! The Duplex! Everything about this place screams good times! The first floor has an exit to the patio area and there is also a piano where all the good songs are being performed. The second floor, on the night when I was there had a drag performance. The drag in question is Pink Pancake (if I remember the name correctly) and she is one fierce performer! Definitely a must visit!

The programs were done with a QR code. It wouldve been nice to have paper programs, but thats just my taste. Mixed drinks looked dangerously interesting.

The Halloween night was going just fine until the waitress started to make pressure for us to leave the table only because for 20 minutes we went to do the line for the bathroom and then smoked a cigarette outside. 2 of use kept being seating at the table drinking by the way. We spent 244$ in cocktails only, and were ordering new rounds for the past hours. Matter of fact our cocktails were still full on the table when she took the glasses away. When we came back to our friends the waitress with an attitude told us that since we left the table they needed to assign it to someone else when 2 of ours were still there! On top of that they did not advise us that tips were already included in the check which was not even printed for me, nor they asked me if I wanted to run the same card I gave them to keep the table opened. They slide the card and make me include an extra gratuity without advice it was already part of the receipt that I could never see.The moment was crowded and we were tired after a night like Halloween, so we did not even argue, but when we arrived home we checked the receipt and found out that we basically left them 40% of tips. We tried to call back the next day to cancel the extra tips but they never answer the phone and their system is made on purpose for them not to be bothered because their mail box is full. Terrible service and experience. No matter how fun the cabaret moment is, if you kick people out for the line at the bathroom and miss transparency when they have to pay. Don’t go there, the friendly attitude is only fake and not genuine, service horrible and cocktail could be bigger for 17$ each.

Initially, this bar appeared promising for a night out, but my recent experience has drastically altered my opinion. During our last visit, a member of their staff harassed my friend. This unacceptable behavior raises serious concerns about the establishment’s standards and customer safety. The management’s failure to address such incidents undermines the credibility of this place. Until they prioritize a safe environment for their patrons and take decisive action, I cannot endorse or recommend this bar anymore.

I was looking forward to a cozy, melodic weekday night at the Duplex Piano Bar, and for a while, it delivered. The ambiance, the music, and the atmosphere were all on point—exactly what my girlfriend and I had hoped for.But then a large group arrived and took over every available seat around us, turning what should have been a serene, music-filled night into their own loud, obnoxious reunion. They treated the bar like their personal party venue, with zero regard for the other patrons who came for a piano bar, not a social circus.Frankly, it’s baffling that management allowed this to happen. Large groups should be required to book private spaces, not ruin the night for everyone else. Letting them dominate the room showed a complete lack of consideration for your loyal, paying guests.

I live a block away from The Duplex. Always walked by but never been in the 30 years I’ve lived in NYC. Went last week. Had some drinks as one does. Asked for the check and was never brought an itemized bill. I’m told that gratuity is added onto the checks so I tipped twice as much as I should have. But here’s the kicker…someone tried to order 350.00 of clothing with my credit card two days later. The Duplex was the first and only time I’ve ever used the card. I’m not saying someone stole my credit card number but you don’t have to be a detective to think that might have happened.

I came around 7pm on Thursday a few weeks ago with some friends so we could chat. Upstairs was pretty chill and empty except for a bachelorette party, that ended around 8pm. A drag performer came on at 10pm and, although she was fabulous, it was just too loud for us to talk and we decided to call it a night. Ive been coming to Duplex for well over a decade so I knew what to expect. I do like that they have non-alcoholic liquors available and was served some tasty N/A cocktails, at very reasonable prices. It wasnt as busy as I remember it being in pre-covid days, which kinda threw me for a loop, but hey, now that Im older I appreciate having some breathing room :)

Wish I could give this place 10 stars. Randomly walked by quite late on a Wednesday night and heard delightful cabaret/theatre style music played on a piano so I had to stop by. Entertainer did a lovely job of singing, playing piano and welcoming everyone in at once. So talented. They even let several customers get up and sing songs! Bartender Maria was incredible. She took care of multiple guests yet made everyone feel like the most special person in the room. On a personal note: I was having a rough day after traveling back home for a brief visit to NYC. She somehow made time to ask questions and make me feel better while running around and doing the same for other customers. If I still lived in the city I would be there every Wednesday.

This was our first time here, kinda stumbled in to take a break from shopping. Initially we noticed the slow service, but we also noticed that there was only one server tending to the customers outside, so we were also understanding. We didn’t have a menu at our table, so when the server finally came over and asked us what we wanted, we were surprised that he didn’t offer one, didn’t ask if we wanted waters to start, or at least inform us of the specialty cocktails, beers on tap, etc. He seemed annoyed that we requested a menu, and so of course he took his time coming back to us. We questioned one another if we should go because things just felt off but we decided to just stay for one drink and go. He came back and we placed our orders and also stated that we would just close out and that’s when things bubbled over. We were not aware that we had to pay a 20% gratuity upfront. As an aside, I think if you are going to put the automatic gratuity on menus and not have staff communicate anything, then there should at least be menus provided on every table. If you just sit down for a drink and there’s no menu, nor does your server offer transparency, how would anyone know? Or maybe that’s the plan?I ended up just ordering a beer so I didn’t bother looking at the menu, but my partner did order a premium cocktail. She didn’t notice the 20% gratuity on the bottom of the menu so when the total was a little higher than she expected, she asked why and we were then informed. Fine. It’s technically on the menu, so we ultimately couldn’t argue that even though we felt a different way about it. What was more bothersome was that the system doesn’t allow you to not leave an additional tip. At least that’s what we were told. He said “it won’t let you put zero, you have to at least put a penny”. So on top of receiving mediocre service from the beginning, we had to tip before even receiving our items and were forced to leave an additional tip? When my partner questioned why does she have to “at least put something in”, the server made a smug comment about us being able to afford an extra penny on top of the bill. And I get it, this industry puts the responsibility of paying the wages of restaurant workers on the customers, so any inclination of the customer not fully buying into that, we get attitude. It’s not about whether or not someone can afford to do something, it’s the way in which things are done that feels nefarious; be it a penny or a dollar.Nonetheless, my partner explained that she didn’t appreciate his comment and that it was rude and he continued to be dismissive, sarcastic, and demeaning. At this point, I asked if the charges could be reversed because we’d rather just go and he literally walked off and said “byeeee”. It was as if he was annoyed that we had questions about the gratuity charge and he was just turned off from us. If things had been communicated more clearly and less curt, I believe the experience would have been a lot different/more positive. The manager of course was very cavalier about our experience and the server continued to come over to where we were, adding unwanted comments and continuing to antagonize when all we came in to do was ensure that he actually reversed/cancelled the charges since he walked off unprofessionally and we had already swiped our card (we were sitting outside). Based off of the manager’s response, I don’t expect much from whoever may respond to this review other than to likely blame us in some way and speak highly of their staff. Which, fine. I just hope that someone looking to come here will see this, among other similar reviews and if they choose to visit, they’re aware of the tipping system. I don’t believe that the service is always like, I am not here to besmirch the business, however I don’t think this is acceptable treatment when all we did was question something that was very confusing.

Music and drinks were good, and the service was quick. I saw on the menu that gratuity of 20% was included in the tab on parties of all sizes. When I closed out, the price seemed a little high, but I went along with it. I didnt know the price of one of the drinks ordered, so I just shrugged it off and paid. The server handed me the payment device, and I noticed that on the tip section, 20% was pre-highlighted, as if that was the lowest option I had. However, I found out after I received the receipt that the original higher price was already including the tip, and I had double tipped 20%. It wasnt a huge deal since the server was nice, but make sure you review the tab closely before adding additional tip if you want.

We were forced to pay our tab out and not allowed inside the bar even though it was still open for business. We were told “that’s how we do things here”. Quote intended. If you can’t have a patio table after a certain time, then give a heads up instead of just shutting it down without notice. Horrible way to end the visit.

My daughter, who lives in the area, suggested Duplex when I visited from Portland, Oregon last week. We were downstairs in the piano bar, where the music was awesome and the crowd was singing along and having a great time. The night we went the pianist was Will; hes SO good: he played and sang an astonishing variety of pieces, took requests, and accompanied some amazingly talented vocalists including the bartender, the waiter, the general manager, and several guests. I would have gladly stayed until closing, but had an early flight home the next morning; made it until nearly 2am then had to call it a night. Definitely hope to go back on my next visit -- Duplex was one of the highlights of the trip. Highly recommend!!

The drinks were sugary sweet not good and I’m wondering are we the only ones that got duped on the tipping?? I paid the bill on the handheld device (our server shoved the total bill into my face) and used the option to add a nice tip. Once home in my email it shows a tip was already included in my total (only 4 people in our party) but because there was no itemized bill on the device I wasn’t aware of this at the time. So our server got tipped $30 to bring us 4 crappy drinks. I’m guessing this is a ‘scam’ the servers get away with. Would love management to know this is going on. And a way to get my extra $ back. Bartender made the assumption I was underage without checking my ID (I’m well above the drinking age) and refused to serve me. He also charged ALL of my friends’ drinks to my credit card in order to retaliate against me for calling him out on his discriminatory attitude. To top this off, the stand-up comedian was terrible, and that is the biggest understatement of this new decade.

We learned, after heading to the bathrooms upstairs, there is two very separate vibes upstairs and down. The upstairs is cabaret, and night club-esque, while the downstairs is a piano bar and more chit-chat with your counterparts and sing along. We stayed on the bottom floor.... for many many hours (had we known about the cabaret earlier, we may have started there and migrated down). We bellied up to the bar about 10pm, started making friends around 11pm, and headed out around 2am.The bartenders were attentive, fun to joke around with, and INCREDIBLE singers. Not living in NYC, this bar came as a recommendation I am so grateful for the recommendation. We will be back!

Rude bouncer. Last night we decided to stop by there and when we tried to get in, the bouncer refused to let us in and said that “our eyes look lit already”. Keep in mind we had only had one drink and on top of that we had just ate, we were completely sober. Then someone else outside proceeded to point out that the bouncer has been doing that night. Your bouncer clearly does not care about making business for you and just wants to go home early. Very unfortunate

Bill, Darius, Maria, etc… were awesome family. Welcomed our newborn daughter into the world. Awesome peeps, fun as hell, 100% of the staff came and sang/played piano with the rest of BWay at our wedding. As good as great folks get. Straight folks, don’t worry about anything- they loved to mess with me occasionally but all In hilarious, great taste. At first glance, this bar seemed like a decent spot for a night out. However, my recent visit shattered any positive perception I once had. The staffs lack of professionalism is utterly appalling. My friend was subjected to harassment by one of their employees. Its disheartening to see a place that claims to offer a good time tolerating such despicable behavior. The managements failure to ensure a safe environment reflects their negligence and disregard for customer well-being. Until they take serious action to address these issues and prioritize patron safety, I cannot in good conscience recommend this establishment to anyone.

The owners response did not address why the system is suggesting that customers tip on the already tipped amount, not the subtotal. upon reviewing the owners nasty response, I do not intend to return to this establishment. The location and atmosphere are good. However the business conduct here is questionable to say the least.1. They automatically add 20% gratuity to your bill. Yes this is posted on the menu. But we were there for happy hour. We got 2 drinks and there was no pianist/performance, and barely any service.2. Then on the bill there is another suggested tip section which starts at 20%. If you are tipsy or you dont really pay attention to the bill, you can easily double tip.3. The second suggested tip is calculated based on the sum of your subtotal and gratuity. So YOU ARE TIPPING ON THE TIPPED AMOUNT! This is just shady. I know most people would not do their own math if it is already calculated on the bill, especially when you are tipsy/drunk. I dont know if they set up the bill this way on purpose or it is a poorly-implemented Point-of-Sale system. I have seen quite a few other reviews complaining about this.

I absolutely love piano bars and have been to so many. I was so excited to come across this place along my way to another. My friend and I entered and went to the bar. She asked if they had Irish coffee or a espresso martini and they did not, which was understandable. Then when I asked the bartender for a rum and coke she stated that she would not serve us. We were not intoxicated nor obnoxious while ordering. Not sure what it was but we left to a neighboring bar. Extremely saddening cause I was looking forward to finding a local piano bar.
