Mexicue offers a vibrant dining experience with amazing and flavorful food. The dishes are truly delicious and well-prepared. However, the atmosphere can be quite noisy due to the loud music, which detracts from the overall experience. Additionally, the service was a bit slow, which was a minor downside. On a positive note, their cocktails are worth trying and complement the meal well.

The idea of Mexican food and BBQ caught our eye. We made a reservation which was good since the restaurant is small. We were seated quickly and the one waiter sat us and provided menus. It was awhile before he was back to take our drink order. Decided to order an appetizer when we placed our drink order and went with the nachos. Nachos arrived but no drinks. Started eating the nachos since they were hot and still no drinks. With a good dent in the nachos the cocktails arrived. They were good but the timing was all off. The nachos were also good. We could have just had those for dinner (shared between 2 of us) had we realized how big a portion we’d get. I ordered a smoky chicken taco which was also good. It didn’t have that fake smoke taste thankfully and was moist and large as well.

I would recommend making a reservation, they were pretty busy and we had to sit near the doors which isn’t a big issue. The place was assume! Wow, just wow—this place is a taco lover’s dream! We did the all-you-can-eat tacos, and they were massive and absolutely delicious. The staff? Total legends—so friendly and on top of everything. Great food, but not entirely worth the price & wait. We didn’t have reservations and that was a mistake for a Friday night dinner. Wait time was over an hour, but staff was understanding, checked in on us, and immediately had our table ready after. Unlimited chips were excellent with the different dips. Tacos were superb, as was the pitcher - get it with the chili & salt rim! Staff was great. Outdoor seating available.

These were one of thebest tacos I have ever had in my life! I ordered the Smoky Chicken and Nashville Hot Chicken tacos and the wait for them was so worth it. The Smoky Chicken taco especially blew me away–the chicken was so incredibly tender and paired wonderfully with the vegetables and tortilla wrap, the sauce sealing it altogether. The atmosphere was incredibly cozy due to the decorations and it didn’t feel as small as it looked, I was quite comfortable at the bar. I’d have to come back soon to try their other dishes and drinks, since they have an extensive menu.

How does a restaurant go from 5 stars to1? An inefficient server and just as worse a lazy Manager. We had a 6:30 reservation and Stephanie L was our server. Instead of calling me Honey we would have preferred competence. We ordered what we did Sunday . The drink came but no nachos and guac. Just around when our main course, the server suddenly remembered and blamed the kitchen. When our BBQ rice bowls came, servings were less and my bowl had no RICE. We asked and were told at 6:45 they ran out of rice. Weird when the 4 people next to us who ordered after all got rice. We were told the Manager was coming to explain but never showed up. No credit to the bill.My mistake giving 18% tip .On Sunday We were fortunate to have Angelca A, who was really busy as probably the only server working, but spent time explaining the menu to us an taking the time to take pictures of us all. She was the reason I gave a 5 star and then deleted due to this bad service tonight (Thursday)

The most terrible dining experience. My friends and I had walked in and had originally gotten seated at a table with stools and wanted to be switched to a table with actual chairs so we could place our large jackets (there were multiple empty tables). When we asked we got a weird look from the host but he did not say anything and allowed us to sit there. Afterwards the waitress came over and stated that it was not gossip or tea time and that we could not sit there for two hours because the table was reserved (which we were not originally told). Once we got the food we were rushed throughout, I barely finished my last bite when the waitress came over and snatched my plate as well as my friends. We stayed roughly 35 minutes because of how uncomfortable we were. As an establishment no customer should ever be rushed or treated that way regardless if there are reservations. Please avoid this place at all costs!!

We came here randomly while in NYC. We arrived around 5:00pm and didn’t have a reservation but we’re able to be seated at either the window bar table or a high top. We chose the high top table. If you choose this option just note the tables are super small, the chairs have no back support and there are no hooks to hang purses or coats. This was the main reason I gave the “atmosphere” 4 stars. I had to eat with my purse on my shoulder and hat and coat in my lap.It was still happy hour and we were super happy to see that the house margarita (pictured) was discounted. It was a very well balanced margarita. Not too sweet or sour.I ordered the wild mushroom quesadilla and lorrrrrd have mercy they were delightful!! It was hands down THE BEST vegetarian dish I’ve ever had. We will deff be back next time we are in the city and craving a wonderful margarita and Mexican food.

Vegetarian review: The mushroom taco was ok and it had a cheese that really overpowered it and they didnt really go together well IMO. The broccoli taco was the best of the three options. I wish there was more intensity to flavor however. The corn taco was also decent. The vegetarian nachos however were quite terrible and flavorless with too many layers of cheese all over. They clearly missed the sauces on one half of the nacho mountain while they chose to use a weird combination of pickled peppers and jalapenos for heat. The jalapeno guacamole is also okay as long as you dont expect any kick from the jalapenos. Their tortilla chips are very good. This restaurant is not a repeat for me.

The story here is similar to many places around the city. Their prices have gone through the roof the last 2 years. It is not just inflation, it’s price gouging at its finest. What really annoyed me was taking out for lunch, they now have a $2.50 charge for a takeout container (which I did not see stated anywhere). They ran out of reasonable cost increases so they’re just hiding them now and that principal will probably keep me away from this restaurant. The food itself is above average, nothing superior, but definitely above average. They do have a C health rating at this location, so something to keep in mind as well.Overall good food but prices are high and they will tack on any fees they can to your order apparently.

This restaurant got mixed reactions from our family. The guacamole was really good, but the chips tasted like cooking oil and had no salt. Both the filling for the shrimp fajitas and chicken fajitas were tasty, but the accompanying tortillas were extremely greasy. It felt as if pieces of each part of the meal were good, but certain pieces detracted from the quality. Our server was very attentive and friendly, but the restaurant was so loud that it was almost impossible to visit.

So what I really like about this place is that the food is so colorful & vibrant. Adding the sesame seeds makes it more visually appealing as well. The fajitas had vegetables that werent overcooked and all these other elements that made the dish. The chicken was perfectly cooked, though not very seasoned still enjoyable. The downside is that once you start getting to the bottom of the plate there is a lot, and I mean a lot of oil. The tortillas were homemade and trust me, it makes a difference. The Nachos were stacked. Jalapeños, chopped up peppers, beans, guac, fresh cilantro, and liquid gold 🧀 Yum. Generous portions that allow you to share. Which cuts down the prices. Bill was around $50 w/o tip. Waitress was very courteous and quick.

Food was alright, $7.75 for one chicken taco was a bit of a high price, which i wouldnt have minded if the service wasnt so subpar. i asked the waiter if by any chance there was any hot tea as i had been feeling a sore throat coming on, he rudely responded its the middle of the summer, no one drinks hot tea, we dont do that here, people usually do iced teas when its hot out. a simple no wouldve been more than enough, absolutely no need for that comment. i did not catch the waiters name but i did see him later on bring over hot tea to the table sitting diagonal from mine. the atmosphere felt very cold and the place felt crowded even when empty. the waiter didnt check on me and my friend at all, and he hovered over us while we tried to pay. we felt uncomfortable as he was watching us pull out our cash and he wouldnt go away. overall the food and the experience wouldve been better to me had the service not been so bad. definitely wouldnt recommend coming here.

Its a shame though, since it used to be a great place for our mixed group of vegetarians and non-vegetarians to meet up. And alas, the old tacos were amazing. Marissa took it upon herself to harass my friend and me about it, making side comments like, ‘I could’ve taken another table instead of you.’ As we were leaving, she turned to a coworker and said, ‘This much of a tip is ******* ridiculous,’ loud enough for us to hear. This behavior made us extremely uncomfortable and completely ruined our experience. Gratitude is voluntary, yet Marissa made us feel obligated beyond what we could afford. This lack of professionalism was disappointing, and I was very tempted to ask for my tip back.Sadly, I cannot recommend this branch again based on this experience.

Found online and looked amazing. Super hot day and our family walked over for an early dinner. Inside was practically empty, and we needed only a table for 4 ... did I mention that my son uses a power wheelchair, and has an incredibly well trained service dog? We walked in, and the host acted like he was trying to find a table (again, 90% of them were empty), and then went over to the manager who approached us saying that the NYC Health Code prohibits service dogs from entering restaurants! He would serve us outside but not inside. Weve been dining in incredibly nice restaurants for the last 3 days without one word or glance about the service dog. The manager agreed he was exceptionally behaved and under complete control, and said he did not want to see the certification papers (he was in his service vest as well). I asked to see the health code that supersedes the American with Disabilities Act ... he pretended to try to look it up on his phone but of course never found it. Because it does not exist ... you are allowed to bring certified service dogs in restaurants as long as they are not disruptive, intimidating, or out of control. It was absolutely ridiculous. We have never had anything like this happen. We walked out hurt, insulted and very hungry. So disappointed in the host, management and (apparently) the ownership!

First time trying this place and I’ll probably never go back. Sarah M gave me a dirty look after handing me my take out & also charged me $5 extra for guacamole that they never included. I was polite while ordering and only asked for assistance on what to order because I’m pescatarian and wanted a burrito. They told me a kid’s burrito would come with beans, rice, cheese, onions, etc. along with fish. All I got was rice, cheese, & fish, a small dash of some crème (I guess was the sour cream I asked for?), & two slices of avocado in a cup that I thought was the guacamole I ordered because I couldn’t see through the cup. I asked for chips in my burrito which did come but other then that it was just disappointing. I tipped 25% because I assumed I was going to get good service. Nope. If you’re going to pick and choose who you want to give good service and be kind to, don’t work there.

I recommend booking a timed reservation online before showing up at any Mexicue locations, its super easy and that way youre not left waiting. I find any restaurant in NYC to be super busy, but also going in off times helps. We got here around 1pm for our reservation, and sat down immediately outside. It really wasnt busy at all, even though we were there on a Saturday. The outdoor seating needs to be adjusted, we were whacked by the plastic liners the entire time we were out there, each time cars passed they blew around and even knocked over my water bottle. I understand the need for the liners, but they absolutely need to be secured to protect customers. Otherwise, we had a great experience and loved everything we had. The verde salsa was one of the best verdes Ive ever had, the mac and cheese was great, cornbread superb, and they do a good job on their bowls. Also, the drinks were perfect and had plenty of alcohol. Our waiter and waitress were super nice as well. Just hope to see them get the plastic liners fixed!

We got a table immediately and the service was fast, and the food was delicious. My only complaint is that our waiter did not clarify to us when happy hour had ended - he simply asked if we wanted another margarita, and then charged us full price (over twice as much) for the second round. Given that we didnt even have a happy hour menu at our table clarifying prices or hours, I found that disingenuous.

Small place but clean and made up for it with their awesome food. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar and the bartender was quick to start us with drinks but was pretty slow on followup drinks and clearing our empty plates. This was mainly due to him being the only bartender and making all of the drinks for everyone during happy hour. We had the grilled street corn, nachos w/ Mexicue chili, and the fancy radish chips with guacamole. All was delicious and had a wonderful taste. We had ordered the guacamole with jalapenos, however they either gave us regular guacamole or didnt put enough jalapenos in it to even get a hint of heat. Mexicue has an interesting pull to its name - theyve grown from a food truck to a restaurant chain in NYC and specialize in a unique char grilled Mexican food.I had somewhat high expectations in terms of uniqueness of the taste and overall experience, but it was somehow just above average. They have some delicious items in the menu - the foursome dip with charred guac, poblano queso, black bean dip & salsa with loaded slightly thick nacho chips, smoked chicken tacos, Nashville hot chicken tacos, grilled tacos, pulled pork/shrooms, golden avocado, burritos, tequila drinks and more - something for everyone!Taste wise, it was fine, didnt have a yumm factor and felt like something was missing. The queso was a bit too salty. The flavors werent starring on their own & somehow were lost in the blend of ingredients. At $8 a taco, its tad expensive.Service is good - prompt and courteous. Worst restaurant experience Ive had in a long time. A group of us came for happy hour. As expected, our IDs and vaccine cards were check at the door. Everyone at the table ordered drinks. 10 mins later a manager comes and asks to see our IDs. Some girls had their ID images with their vaccine cards images on an app but forgot their physical ID copy. Then rudely stated to us that was not allowed and a physical copy is needed and told some people of our party they were not allowed to drink. We wanted to leave but immediately after, they brought drinks to the table to those who were allowed as if they made the drinks already but then asked for our IDs. It made for a terrible happy hour experience where some of us had a drink and some were just sitting there. If that is your policy, that is fine, but why was that not told to us when we were having our IDs checked at the door? OR BEFORE we ordered drinks?? Complete waste of our time.

EXTREMELY disappointed. My husband and I frequent the Chelsea location so when friends were in town and were around Times Square we suggested Mexicue for dinner and were so excited to share one of our favorite restaurants with them. All 4 of our orders were wrong. All four separate people. I ordered a margarita and it never showed up. One of the people joining us ordered a soda and when it came the rim of the glass was visibly dirty. All around a horrible experience and I’m very disheartened that we vouched so highly of this place. Not to mention the atmosphere is much more of a drop in and shove a bunch of people in a small space vs a well functioning, well laid out restaurant. To top everything else off, there was no functioning restroom in the entire restaurant. I will not under any circumstances ever come back to this location and highly suggest that management take control or shut it down completely because it is giving “Mexicue” a terrible name.

Horrible. I called to place a large order for my monthly companys lunch. A lunch, keep in mind, that would have fed 100 people - so a good chunk of business! I called with plenty of time, over a week in advance, and they assured me that that would be ample for what I was requesting. The woman I had emailed first in catering responded to me right away saying that she would get back to me with pricing that Friday. By Monday the following week, I had still heard no response so I called her office throughout the day. No answer. I called the restaurant and spoke to another gentlemen there who acted like he had never really heard of her and gave me the number that he hoped was right - which was the number to her office. By Tuesday morning, I had called and left a voicemail. Called that afternoon and she finally picked up with no explanation as to why she hadnt returned my calls and said she would get the pricing over to me immediately. It is now Thursday and still have not heard from her. I will DEFINITELY be taking my business elsewhere. Why would you ignore business that would have paid you for feeding 100 people....irritated.
