I dont know about the food; we went there to have some drinks and the atmosphere was excellent, everyone was friendly... I did forget my card, though, they saved it secure until I went back to pick it up... they guys are amazing
Excellent owner and staff. Very friendly and kind. No-frills bar but very chill. Stop in for a drink. You wont regret it.
Great prices. Nice staff. Love the bar! Music is good as well.
My life was threatened in that bar before the covid by a well builded guy bald goatti
Great bar - good crowd. Loved the 70s music videos. Bartender not very friendly but oh well.
Old school gay bar (not many of these left) w decently priced drinks. Nothing fancy here, but welcoming.
Historic Gay Bar.Amazing vibes, small but quaint. Very easy to have a conversation at this bar
An absolute must for any NYC locals. Nicest crowd of all ages and demographics with a rich history!
Amazing and cozy home away from home type of bar with friendly staff and patrons. Ive quickly come to adore the space. I would definitely recommend this charming spot to my friends and folks looking for a drink.
Love Ty’s for it’s lowkey vibe. The crowd here is a mix of old dudes having a nightcap, bears pregaming, and downtown cool kids relaxing somewhere they won’t be seen. Bartenders are all very sweet. Music is generally good, ranges from rock, 90s radio classics, 100% Madonna, Courtney Love and friends.
This bar is oriented towards elder men and bears. The space is somewhat small but service is friendly and quick.
A New York tradition. Right in the middle of the village. Patrons are kocals and visitors alike. I always stop in when in town.
Friendliest gay bar in the village. Older crowd with no pretention. Nice place to drink, relax and gab.
An LGBT icon. No glitz (well except for the ceiling). It’s been more than 30 years since I stopped in the last time for drinks with my chorus buddies (the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus). Nothing has changed, not even the soundtrack or the sound equipment. There are spirits all around. Remembering our friends who didn’t have the chance to grow old. Thank you Ty’s for keeping their memories alive!
Lovely place & Cozy atmosphere
Best gay bar in NYC. So much history. Very friendly customers and great staff. Bartender Julian , a great guy, plays videos on the weekend that are incredible. He’s the reason I keep coming back. Great atmosphere.
First time there and it was more than a welcoming atmosphere. Staff was great and the the regulars were nice. Definitely going back !
Went here last week for my last night in Manhattan. The bartender Gary was very nice and the people were friendly.
Excellent bears bar
The cozy and casual atmosphere of this late night local bar invites relaxation with a drink or two. My veteran bartender was handsome, kind and efficient. With their wide range of clientele, all are clearly welcome. The video selection could be improved.
Went for the first time. Fairly crowded but all couples except for me and two other guys - neither of them were interested in me. Bartender was super nice. I had a ginger ale and left alone. Wondering if I should return
I love going to Tys...I am a bisexual femme, but I love meeting guys here!I get treated well, and my outfits draw wonderful attention and compliments (I am a ham, I admit it), from a number of the patrons here.I get a number of nice hugs, wonderful to receive.Ill be back- and soon!
Did not eat anything here hence cannot rate the food, but good place to unwind and they play some good music too!
This was my first time and I really anjoy the time and I meet amazing peaples and make nuw friends, I will came back for more
Great spot! Small but full of life! Great place to drop off and get some drinks with some friends and really have a conversation. Also great to meet new people you will find Truly find some Die Hard fans of this bar, I love coming here its very easy breezy and full of fun
Best bar in NYC with hot guys wearing purple hats
This was my regular bar when I lived in nyc.Always festive during holidays. Miss it!
I loved the songs they were putting, very popular lady Gaga’s.
This bar has such a chill vibe to it. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are cheaper compared to many other neighboring bars. Music here is classic 80s and 90s. Add this to your list if youre staying in west Village
The bartenders are so nice, and it feels like they care. Crowd on the older side
Amazing staff, fun place, great drinks, good prices. Fantastic music!
I always enjoy a nice small bar with fun atmosphere. I even more so enjoy when the gays get heated and have an almost fight. It’s quite entertaining, especially when the guy who started the argument in the same breath became the victim because the other guy started bullying him and threatening him under his breath. Kinda wild, but good ol’ NYC will always keep me entertained. Drinks on flow, Scattered 🍆, with a chance make-out at 65% give or take on any given night.
Low key small old fashion bar with all ages and races. Skews a bit older. Can be high alcohol and frisky place. Gary is best all around bartender in gay nyc.
Very nice bar, good service, the Tys beer is just great
Didnt really try food or would have given a 5 star.First bar I been to where hot guys formed a line in the bathroom to pump and dump in/-on meDefinitely coming back
Good music, and good to meet up with friends !
Always fun and you never know who you might run into or go home with!!! Lol
This place is a real vibe! 50+ years of history, a great meeting place for queer people of all types, wonderful service and reasonably priced drinks. I love this place. It’s my new go to when in NYC!
The bear dive bar of your dreams.Julian and Gary are ✨✨✨
Friendly neighborhood video gay bar with fixture bartenders. The where everybody knows your name type of place.
Tys is ALWAYS on my list of places to hit when going for drinks in NY. Gary is always friendly and looks after us!
Great place.I went to this bar during my holiday in New York. The Gin Tonic was very full of Gin and i liked it.The men at the bar were very cool, full of sympathy and handsome.Thaks for the cupcakes.
Great place for drinks with nice atmosphere and good people.
Great music, cheap drinks and a very casual/welcoming atmosphere!
We’re not a punk rock bar, we’re a new wave bar- Jello Biafra
Great bar. Loyal clientele, Stood the test of time.! The music is mixed, and they also play 80s and 90s 😁
Great place. Visited once while on vacation in New York. Fox, the barman was just lovely and welcoming. Had the chance to talk and laugh with a few other people around me. Very friendly bar.
A friendly gay bar with hot men, fun men, and great staff.Give it a try
I have been going to this bar since 1977 during the West Villages glory days. While the Village has changed this bar is like an evergreen.. Great drinks service friendly staff and patrons. I dont call it my Lucky Bar for nothing....!
Great place to meet the locals.
Always a great time at Tys. Its always great catching up with old friends in a great atmosphere. Blessings always!
Whenever Im in the Village, I always prefer Tys over say, The Monster. Tys is nowhere near as pretentious or clique-ish, and the bartenders are far more receptive and friendly, even having a great sense of humor. The only downside: the place is very small, with (as far as I know) only the front entrance/exit; God forbid if there were ever a fire! Still, I always feel more welcome and relaxed there, and will return again soon!
Ive turned 21 years old this year and Im gay. Ive been trying to find a gay bar that has a type ofwhere everybody knows your name kind of feel. This bar hits the nail!
Have been coming to Tys for years as a visitor from Scotland, and very much consider it as our local when in New York, to the point where the some of the regulars now regard me and my husband as one of their own. This is where I come to escape the madness of the city, and where I can feel at home - even when that is 3500 miles away. Super friendly, its an LGBT institution in the city, in the heart of the West Village and attracts mainly a more mature crowd and popular with the bear community. Its one of those totally unpretentious places that just stays the same - and all the better for it. (And I love Tys Amber Ale! - maybe a little bit too much....)
Love this place! Bartenders are friendly and the crowd is a very laid back and friendly bunch. No pretentious twinkies. Always feel welcome here and I have a great time.
The guys behind the bar make or break your evening here. The sunday dude was really rude. During the week however they were so welcoming and full of chat. Still fav place on Christopher st.
Laid back atmosphere and easy going. Good spot to meet people if youre new in town. Visited by all generations of the family.
The Friendliest Gay Bar in Greenwich Village [ West Village for Visitors]. A Must for down to earth , jeans and tee shirt ( or no t-shirt ● Men●). Please visit all visitors, and strike up a converstation.
Good old fashioned gay bar. Good craic and friendly guys. Beer decent and bar staff super friendly!
As an out of towner and first time vsitor to New York, this bar was a pretty awesome place to visit. Great vibes and welcoming people.
My favorite hang out bar in the city. Cozy and friendly. The bar staff treat you with respect, and they truly appreciate your business
Liked it!! Very low key and an older easy going crowd. Drinks were strong and bartenders were very agreeable
I found this bar on my own and I had a blast, our little bartender wasnt little but the biggest heart, Gary. Fun, great music, not pretentious.. neighborhood bar at best...
A Cool Bar to Come and Have Some Cold Beers, and Drinks. Have some little Fun and Relax yourself from The Tought Moment that we leaving in This Actual and Difficult times.
THE BEST if you likely * very friendly * fun , bartenders. Its the most likely Gay mens bar for easily making new friends.
A true dive bar in the west village! The cheap drinks, friendly staff and the eclectic atmosphere always make for a very fun evening.
What a great neighborhood bar. Unpretentious drinks and people. Refreshingly not a scene place. 👍
Ty‘s Bar is one of the OG New York gay bars. Come here on a Friday evening to catch this week’s episode of RuPaul‘s Drag Race or grab a drink with friends.Really nice staff and friendly crowd. Always worth a visit.
Friendly bar
Strong drinks at decent prices and a great lot of fun
This is our neighborhood bar in the city. Where everybody knows our names!!
This is a small bar. No frills, but cheaper drinks. Mostly older crowd.
Friendly and unpretentious gay bar catering to all crowds. Great music too - lots of stuff from the 90s! Drinks are generously poured and cards are accepted.
So happy to hear this place is a landmark. It really is the closest thing we have to time travel. God please protect this place at all costs! Shout out to Danny who is my FAVOTITE bar tender of all time!
Been here about 6 times now. I want to love it cuz it’s a cool little place but I find it to be the unfriendliest bar! Every time.
My favorite bar in town. Amazing drinks great people behind the bar. And sexy men of all ages. This place is always right !
Tys is my go to place in NYCAlways a great time!!!
The bartenders need to be more polite to their customers!!!!!!
The bar staff are men... masculine and helpful... and play the best music. Julian is the best.
Small bar with tons of warmth. I love it. Their holiday decoration is so cute!
Nice fun atmosphere at great prices, very friendly crowd and great music too... loved this place
Love that Tys has reopened with a Vaccination (with proof) mandate. Downloaded the Excelsior Wallet NYC app immediately!
Very laid back, great drinks, friendly people, and great music 🎶!
Chill bar, strong drinks, and you can hear yourself while having a conversation! Definitely will be back with my friends
I like the bar and the drinks, i wish i could of met someone though, no one talked to me
Friendly staff, strong drinks and a cute cozy atmosphere
Nice cozy spot with drinks done the right way!
Nice place the bar tenders are nice. Good people !
Very friendly crowd, we had a great afternoon drinking and chatting with some of the locals. Thank you Bill, Jimmy, Chuck and Boris for making our afternoon so much fun. The bartender was very friendly and generous, we hope to be back soon. Cheers from Jose and Alexander!Dont miss the chance to visit!
Always a good time at this iconic bar. The staff is friendly, the patrons are always there to give you a hug, and the music 🎶 is always good. ❤️
Fairly standard bar. Reasonably priced.
Tys is one of the most friendliest bars Ive been in to NYC, the staff and clientel are incredibly friendly, hospital and make you feel very welcome. Do pop in and say Hi to Dan if youre ever in NYC !!!
Small, cosy, vaguely a gay bar, nothing special. Christopher Street seems to be gentrifying the gay bars out of existence
Its a cute little gay bar in the west village. My friend said it was gonna be full of a bunch of old men, but I found me a little hottie in there that wasnt an old man. The drinks were good and the bartenders were really nice.
Older crowd, cheaper drinks among places in the area, no cover, good music, good vibes
Lots of Dads. Some a little too friendly. Strong drinks and great bar tenders.
Staff is friendly and fast, they throw really good parties
The music is amazing the crowd is great and the drinks are cold
I was roaming around new york hitting a bunch of different gay bars, and this was the coziest place I have ever seen. I walked in, to a bunch of men (most of them probably 40+) singing along to lady gaga music videos, drinking beer, and dancing. I wasnt there long but I cherish those brief moments of communal karaoke :D too bad I was in a hurry. Next time Im in nyc Im definitely spending more time here. Very warm, and very welcoming ❤️
Drinks were reasonable. Perfect environment and great music.
What a amazing bar. Crowded and good music. All guests were happy and weve met lots of crazy peoples. Was so funny
Consistently great bar, and the bartenders are like boner city in my pants
Tys is Cozy, Clean offering Friendly service, good music and affordable drinks.
This is the most friendly gay bar in NYC. GREAT staff, in fact I would venture to say best bartenders on the NYC gay scene. Very friendly patrons and we have made some great friends there.Drinks are very reasonably priced and it is nestled in a very cool part of Christopher street. Highly recommend!
Fun neighborhood bar. Friendly staff, and cheap drinks.
It’s quite a nice bar ! But I was there on Saturday and I dunno is it usual or no but it was full of mostly older ppl like over 35+
Good gay bar in this place small and chill older crowd
It was nice friendly and the drinks was strong.celebrated a friends bay here..
Always a great place to visit when we are in the Village.
All drinks,......amazing cheap prices, great party day and night....🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Great but can get packed.
Love the bar but the system always thinks i am at leather man.
Small but great vibes.
Really friendly small bar. We were the only women but staff and customers were very welcoming and toilets clean. Drinks very affordable. Highly recommend
Nice locals gay bar, friendly and good drinks.
They are not fair. We ordered a long neck bottle of Guinnes beer whose price was 6 dollars, after 2 days the charge amount was updated on our card to 10 dollars. We were robbed by the bar. I wont be back and I dont recommend it to anyone. It was on March 7, 2023 at 4:47 pm (number 624650275).
One of the best bars. Visited multiple times during our stay
Great bar I visited during my visit at Halloween
Such a great bar, delicious drinks, amazing bartenders, I highly recommend it for any gay guy!
Great bar, kind of small but perfect for hunting daddies lol
Owner is a doll but the patrons can be downright nasty. I am a supporter of the community however the community did not accept me as a hetro female enjoying the great music and what I thought environment. I got dirty looks, jeers and told I don’t belong at Ty’s. Not very welcoming if you aren’t apart of the LGBTQ+ community which makes me very sad.
Great music. Relaxed vibe. Mature clientele.
One of the best bars in Manhattan. I would definitely return on my next trip.
Long time favorite for hirsute men and their admirers. Great staff.
Great crowd, great staff, cheap drinks, low-key hang. 1 star off because it’s got TVs on all the time. If I wanted to watch TV I’d stay home. Good for locals and visitors.
Nice atmosphere and friendly guys.Much smaller than your average bar or lounge though. Mature men at this bar and its been around ever since I can remember, and thats since the 70s.Good company and great music...friendly bartenders too. Other than that not much happening. No drag shows nor go go boys in their g-string.
It was okay bartender was subpar polite limited seating, but the drinks are cheap
Great bar. attentive bar staff
A West Village Classic!Been coming to Tys for over 15 years and it remains my favorite gay bar overall in NYC! The staff and regulars are friendly and attitude-free, the drinks are great and priced reasonably and its so convenient to the subway and the other Christopher St. bars. No trip to the village is complete for me without stopping by Tys for at least one.Two weeks ago, I left an expensive messenger bag containing some valuable, important and sentimental items. It was over a week before I even called to ask about it. They had found my bag, kept it all that time and promptly returned the bag to me in Chicago with all the contents undisturbed and wouldnt even let me reimburse them for the shipping cost. THAT is above and beyond service to their patrons for sure. THANK YOU JOHN!Will be at Tys each and every time Im visiting NYC! You guys are amazing!
Wonderful spot with an excellent staff!! Crowd was friendly and inviting, as well. Drinks were extremely reasonable in price with a great selection. It may have been Latin night when we went, and the music was perfect!! I’m definitely coming back when I visit NYC. Thanks for welcoming us. ❤️❤️
Bartenders are funny and friendly, and the crowd is great
One of my favorite Gay bars in NYC. Older crowd, bears and bikers. Bartenders super nice, specially Daniel.
The bartenders are so nice and their mix drinking are pretty darn good.
First time in my life I have ever walked out of bar without even being acknowledged, on a Tuesday no less, and the only 1 star rating I have ever given on any platform. I completely understand serving regulars first, but when 3 people line up to my left and right after Ive been standing there and all of them are served ahead of me , I would at least expect a hey Ill be right with you. So imagine my surprise that instead of returning to the center where I was still standing he starts going up and down the bar. At 63 and 240lb Im kind of hard to miss. Sorry Tys was looking to give you a try on my night out in town.
I LOVE THIS BAR!!! Went Fri and Sat night last weekend during the heat wave. Fri night was low key but the AC was cranked and everyone was friendly. Fyi, only vaxed people with proof were allowed in. Sat. was amazing, definitely busier and they played 90s pop videos which half the bar was singing to. The bartender was super nice and so were the patrons. Made a bunch of best-friends-for-one-night and cant wait to go back.
Ok um this is my home. The staff my famly. There is almost no place Id rather be
I was there a while ago before the pandemic i walked in went to the bar got a beer within 60 seconds bartender was great crowd was friendly and flirty i had a blast
Like it. its the smallest bar for the largest clientele
A fun little dive thats almost as old as the city. Usually crowded, not a large bar, with what I would describe as the original clientele mixed with local NYers.Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff is attentive & extremely nice!
The person on the phone tonight at 8:51 PM on New Year’s Eve 12/31/21 is the rudest person I have ever had the displeasure of speaking to. After having an already lackluster drinking experience with weak cocktails and bad food, I made the mistake of leaving my water bottle behind. It was not busy when I was there. It’s not a large space. I call and ask if anyone’s returned it. This person says no in the same instance that I ask without taking a look. I ask if it’s possible if someone can step and take a look on the table & he says no before I can finish my sentence. Then he hangs up on me before I can inquire further and the most infuriating part is that all he had to do was put the phone on hold for 5 seconds and look. Why do you have a phone and pick it up if you don’t actually do anything for the customer calling? Lazy service. Weak drinks. Not a single other person of color in the bar besides me & my friend. Go literally anywhere else.
My partner and I had an amazing time dancing here during Pride weekend! The staff was really wonderful, the crowd was fun, and the music was on point!
Great place to spend some time abd meet new people
Fun place. Great friendly and welcoming people and the drinks are reasonably priced. Ill be back
The bar rates a five. Reminds me off a Seattle dive bar. However, some of the patrons elected to behave in an unbecoming manner. Fairly close to me I might add. Nonetheless, the evening was fun. Great drinks...
Great atmosphere. Very friendly patrons. Accidentally spilt part of my drink and bartender was extremely sympathetic. Helped clean it up and offered discount on next round. Definitely I will be a returning customer.
Great local spot. Good vibes and good people.
I have been here a couple of times. Each time the bartenders were nice and attentive. There are some sexy bears here lol. Need a change in scenery then definitely stop by and have a drink. Cheers!!
Love this spot every year we have a blast
Love the ambiance of the place as I have for many years.
Definitely not for everyone, very mixed crowd! Most of the regulars are old timers and you can get some great conversation in so its a great place to wind down for the night, crowd usually thins out by 2am.
Wonderful old Village bar. Very friendly NYC people. Very small but large people warmth !
This place all my good friends and good vibe plus the drinks are cheap and the music is awesome
This is a place I always have as my second home. Nice people, great bartenders- Julien, Peter, Danny....really amazing guys ! Cozy, good music thanks Julien , the bartender that selects the best from pop to free style. Affordable !!!!
Great place. Affordable drinks. Cute bartenders and barbacks. Only draw back is how crowded it can be. But thats a good problem to have :)
Small and quaint. I come to decompress from other bars.
Fun, fun, fun. Great music all night
This is my go to spot. I have been coming here for over 20 years. Very relaxed and casual bar. Usually good music. Cheap booze!!
A square room where men stand against walls staring at TV monitors. Rude bartender sets tone. Locals...most boring bar in city! Be we need going for years...as friends like it? Absolutely no reason to go with so many welcoming bars...and customers that have developed basic social skills and manners. Zip zero nada..skip Tys
Very nice place for just hanging out. Came in from outa town today and was just looking for a place to have a drink and friendly atmosphere and this is the place for me! Next time I’m in town I’ll be sure to stop in!
Ive been coming here for years since it stopped being a twinkie bar. :-) A very comfortable to be in. People are friendly and approachable. A great neighborhood place.
I always had fun here I call it the living room bar because it is about the size of my living room..good drink prices and a pretty good mix of guys, gets packed on Saturday night and for Sunday afternoon happy hours
Really friendly staff and fun spirited customers make Tys a favorite for me.
One of my fav gay bars in the village
Gary in the bar was the best. Serviceminded to 100% and so sexy. We betted about his name and we got all wrong.
Casual bar ,cheap drinks, amazing music from80 and 90
Great local bar with lots of history. Locals have designated seats, which is great.
Best time for classic cruise....classic guys, gals and disco like Relight My Fire....at 5pm on a Tuesday...Real Happy Hour
Tys is an unpretentious gay bar geared toward middle-aged, masculine bear types. Most people are friendly, and nobodys particularly gorgeous, so theres none of that S&M (stand & model) stuff. Think of it as a gay version of Cheers.
Friendly, mixed crowd of talented, artistic patrons, great drinks.
Always a great place for a drink after dinner in the West Village.
Awesome place - great atmosphere. Mainstay. Always a great time!
A staple of gay nyc culture!
When ever I am in the city, I always end up here and never disappointed.
Great MEN great drinks great music
Great drink specials. Friendly bartenders. Friendly unpretentious crowd.
Fun bar depending when you go. During Pride 50 it was very crowded but the staff was still friendly with an upbeat attitude.
Great comfortable bar with nice bartenders and cheap drink prices!
Over the years Ive tried to like this bar. Friend do. It is a square small room. You can smile.. Say hello. Be open. Yet bartenders to customers all are unsocial unfriendly. Luckybif you cannorder what serns always to be a warm beer... Stand and stare. Told its a neighborhhood bar..A bear bar. You must be local and known. Well, Im local. Stopped over and over for years. It is always the same. So unless I have friends insisting on going to Tys...I enjoy all the other bars and hospitality inn the area. Though you can have conversations, as a passerby with Ty customers standing outside door smoking....
The best Bartenders in New York!!!
Love this place ...the people always friendly ..old crowd though
Very friendly, great beer
The gay cheers of the village.
Cozy neigborhood gay bar thats been there since 1972.
The most reasonably priced drink in NYC.
Good bar. Good drinks. Good bears.
Fun fun, . Great way to start a NYC trip
Great bartenders, good vibe!!!
My NYC hangout. This is a Levi and Leather gray bar. Been around for 40 + years so if your in West Village stop by and say Hi.
A classic never dies... Love it.
Great, friendly neighborhood gay bar which caters mostly to the older and bearish crowd.
Low key and chill for a couple of drinks with friends.
Very Friendly Bartenders! Great Videos sometimes there are small groups singing and having a great time!
Good bar a lot of older men drinks are great staff are good
I hit a guy who said my boyfriend white trash and the solution of the bar was go and do not call the police I am Latin my American husband broke my face 12 points and the place just said .... he is a regular customer I had gone several times I liked it but I never go back lgbt help is not there
Had a nice drink here. Chill crowd.
Happy 45 years tys i will miss ya
My absolute favorite bar
Strong cheep drinks
Friendly vibe and good to have them back
