We’re British visiting for a few days and the reviews for this place are so mixed but what I can say from my experience is that you have to visit this place. The vibe there is great, we had the sushi at the chef’s table and weren’t disappointed. Once you get the chefs talking they really appreciate it. We course isn’t that filling but it’s more about the experience, we’re by no means sushi badgers but everything was delicious.I’ve seen reviews about music not being very loud and sounding like elevator music, there is literally a club underneath the bar with live music or a bar 3 doors down that will meet your decibel needs. We were hosted superbly from start to finish, cannot fault it.

BY FAR THE COOLEST SPEAKEASY I’VE EVER BEEN TO!! You wouldn’t know it was there if you haven’t been there before. Black door, gotta ring a buzz to be let in, and then old school elevator type of door to enter. Once you do, it’s filled with amazing energy. It’s a sushi restaurant, where there’s live DJ’ing, but it’s VINYL ONLY! The food was amazing, literally took me into another dimension mentally. Our hostess, Jenny was amazing. She was very attentive, respectful and gave us amazing suggestions. It was my first place here, but I’ll definitely be back for a date. Thank you!

More of a 3.5 than a 3, but it just didnt earn the 4 for me. The vibe and the whole place is really cool but the hot food was cold and the sushi was... miniature? Regular sized sushi would be preferred. Although I did appreciate the range in types of fish on the sushi menu. Not a place I would go back to, but it was fun to try once.

We were one of the first patrons when it turned into a bar, not many people inside yet very casual still and I ordered 2 shots and 2 drinks. My friends and I were talking and just waiting at the bar and the bartender in the beret handed me what I asked for and I pointed to the drinks and said I was paying for those as well, all in all 2 shots and 2 drinks. When he asked for my card I saw the total was $120 (this was our first time coming here) and I thought it was outrageous but nothing was itemized and unfortunately for me I don’t like arguing as they’re normally rude when pointing out a mistake so I just ate it. (don’t do that). He handed me two more drinks and I asked what those were and he told me I ordered them. I said no and that I only ordered 2 drinks and 2 shots, and said I was wondering why that was so expensive. He was arguing back with me and insisting that was what I ordered, this was the beginning of the night, nobody was intoxicated yet, I was with 3 other people that also started backing me up as I never ordered these extra drinks. His exact words were “well what do you want me to do” I can give you “shots on the house”, I didn’t want shots I didn’t want these extra drinks, I didn’t want anymore alcohol! So I grabbed the drinks dumbfounded after being berated (ironically) by the bartender in the beret and sat them on a table somewhere else and lost what I would assume to be $45 on these and was met with contempt. Really upsetting as I loved everything else about the place, and would love to go back but this experience is deeply deterring.

Room has a cool vibe, but this business is greedy and out of place. They are on the 2nd floor of a building on avenue C, trying to charge as much as possible for food/drinks (+cover sometimes). Ive been there twice, both times with a group, and I was generally unimpressed by the crowd that this place attracts. My sense is they cant attract enough foot traffic to make the business work so they make it up on price.

Came with a group of 5. We got a private table and Had a really great time here. Sushi was delicious and fresh as well as the music and service. Certainly one of the most unique sushi dinner and drinks experience I’ve had in awhile. Really enjoyed the scallops and fish was extremely fresh. Cocktails were great for a sushi restaurant. We had a 7pm resi and stayed for almost 6hrs. After 11:30 it becomes a really cool bar/lounge with great Music. Would definitely come back here again.

Had the omakase here on a Monday with group of 3. Stayed for the sushi party which turned out to be a great decision since Anderson Paak made an appearance. Vibes were immaculate. Really fantastic atmosphere and service. A mix of a low-key omakase bar with a speakeasy vinyl bar (as a result, the music set a really nice mood for the whole dinner). The sushi was great (not the best Ive ever had but very good!) although be warned that you will need to book a specific, non-hightop, table in order to get the full omakase. It was relatively expensive which is to be expected for a NYC omakase spot.

Don’t go. The leadership sucks.I went with my cousins (2 boys one girl) and we spent over $700 after tip. They told us that the restaurant becomes a club after and that we should stop by. The waitress (super nice) vouched for us and told us we won’t pay cover. We come back at around 12:30 and the bouncer said cover. I tell them nicely the situation and they weren’t having it. I catch the owner/manager (a white lady wearing discounted farm to rio pants) seeing all this go down and leaving in a wall doing nothing. I point her out and she says she remembers us, still leaning back, and tells us one free two cover (so basically the boys gotta cover). Her dismissive attitude is really what pissed me off. I told them that our bill was $700 and we will not be paying cover and left. It’s a shame the experience itself was nice but businesses ran by wannabes have no place in the city.

Not to be overly dramatic, but I love this place. No clue How anyone doesnt give them 5 stars.Dont brand it speak easy, sushi restaurant, or fun DJ music club, as it ticks a ton of boxes and I cant compare it to anything. The high top near the bar seating is fun and unique, the staff is warm, welcoming, informative and fun. The food is completely shareable, delicious and again, unique. Loved the nigiri, hand rolls, specialty rolls and apps. And while the server was great, dont sleep on the bartenders. Their signature cocktails or anything you want made-to-order will be a top notch drink. I wish I knew the name of our bartender as he made my wifes b-day, helping with an off-menu Sake bomb, including some fist pounding to expedite the plunge.Well definitely return.

I’ve lived in NYC for over 10 years and never experienced such incompetence at the door. My friends and I stood in line for over 30 minutes to go in for a birthday party- during this time we watched people push to the front and cut the line- much to the two bouncers’ enjoyment while they took copious amounts of their money, and we stood in the cold. Eventually someone from inside came out and attempted to restore order- in the form of cutting half the line off nearly resulting in a riot. Eventually, we finally got in and the music was subpar and the drinks were watered down. This was the epitome of elitist incompetence. Do not waste your time. Do not waste your money. Stay away and go elsewhere!

So he literally took our table and left us sitting on our chairs in the middle of the nowhere. And it all happened right after we paid $150+ bill for two people. We were kinda tipsy by the time it all happened but after we came home and realized that THEY TOOK OUR TABLE after we paid $10 for each piece of sushi is ridiculous!! I’m only leaving a bad review because I feel so robbed here. I left so unsatisfied, hungry, and sober for how much I spent. I spent over a $150 for 10 rolls of mid chef special sushi & 4 mediocre to bad drinks.I would normally never complain about how loud a place is, but the speakers they had were massive and right by tables. I mentioned a few times to or in front of staff how I couldn’t hear anything they or anyone was saying. And had to wave down staff. It’s a cool looking spot & if that’s really important to you, than definitely check it out! but i personally wouldn’t spend my money here & there’s so many other places I rather would have. Just hope that helps someone else! They should not agree to make a Negroni because they clearly have no clue what that is. They could’ve googled it & made it better.

Things quickly escalated when I told her she was being aggressive and I was told I can leave. It’s really a 3.5 but i can’t give it a half point via googlerezzie at 8 but sat at 820/825ish - the hostess acknowledged the late seating and apologized which is appreciated. Also, when i left she re-apologized for the late seating which again is appreciated, however, if you realize that perhaps comp a drink or a hand roll. That would have increased the rating for great customer service.Food Review: We did the omakase, it was good but wasn’t memorable besides the last piece as i hate eel yet it was a really good piece of eel so i would highlight thatThe Chef was good but very difficult to understand (which is fine), but the sous chef who spoke perfect english did not contribute much to the omakase experience. He could have added additional value by providing some “color commentating”The hand rolls were good, but again not the best. All and All for 80 dollars per person certainly a reasonable price for omakase, but i can’t fully recommend it. i would prefer to go there and get some drinks and then a la carte order hand rolls as a food to snack on.the place has solid potential as a place to eat and drink (more like a lounge) but i wouldn’t go here solely due to the food.

Great vibe, cool concept, disappointing service. They were out of most of their appetizers and some of their menu items. Table and seats were wobbly and we immediately spilled our water when trying to sit down because of the unstable seating. Bartender was amazing, very attentive and made the best drink I’ve ever received. The wait staff is the main reason for the 1 star. After finishing our 5 pieces of over priced sashimi, my friend went to the bathroom and I closed the check. I left a cash tip. As I waited for my friend to come back, the host told me they needed the table for the next reservation and to go sit on the couch. It was a little abrupt since we hadn’t been there that long and we weren’t aware of a time limit for dining. After I moved to the couch, another host came over with my bill and asked me if I was dissatisfied with my service. I said the bartender was great and I left a cash tip as a thanks. She then told me I needed to revise my bill and add a tip on my card. She handed me back the bill and waited for me to write in an additional tip (on top of the cash I already left)… I thought she was kidding at first but she was not and kept insisting. I was so offended but felt cornered and pressured with the staff member hovering over me while I waited for my friend. Really disappointing way to end what we thought was going to be a great experience.

It’s so unfortunate that I’m rating this a 1-star because the food and drinks were great, bartender was so friendly and helpful. However the hostess was incredibly rude, kicking us out of our table. We totally understood that they had other reservations coming for the table we were at, but they did it in such a rude manner. After we were made to leave the table, some other lady came to us insisting that we needed to tip more, even after we left a good tip in cash. She was so condescending about it and guilt trip us into giving more of a tip even after we paid and were ready to head out. That has never happened to me before and was so insulting. How about you pay your staff a better wage rather than asking customers to compensate! Would never come back here again, so overpriced for the amount you get and such rude condescending staff (except the bartender, she was sweet).

It wasnt busy, but the guy making the sushi was literally dancing or something instead of making the food. The only reason why I am not giving them a one star is because our waitress was nice and took responsibility.

Cool upstairs bar/club. Has a club vibe but without the cover charge, absurdly loud music, excessive crowds, or bottle service. Overall a cool place I would definitely come again.

(Translated by Google) I really like visiting this place. My friends and I always have a lot of fun. I love Japanese food, I think their chef, Kamui, is very talented. Always playing good music.
